This is a nice free way to travel around Key West. Whether you just was a low-key non-narrated sightseeing tour through the streets of Key West or you don't feel like doing much walking, this is the way to go. We arrived by cruise ship (Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady) to Mallory Square, where we took a very short walk to stop #4, which is the closest to the port. There are usually 2 air-conditioned buses but today there was just 1 short bus which holds about 14 people. There are a total of 18 stops in the continuous loop. The loop takes about 35-40 minutes to make a complete loop. If you are looking to go to the public beach, you would want to get get off at stop #7 and if you want to go to the bouy at the southernmost point of Key West for that famous picture, you will want to get off at stop #10. At each stop, there is a pole with a QRC code to scan, and it gives you the real-time location of the bus. The bus driver is not really able to have a tour conversation while driving because he really needs to keep his eye on the road because of the traffic and tourists who wander the streets. The driver does accept tips for the free ride around town. I recommend this mode of transportation if you want to see the town of Key West. read more

This is an awesome and free transportation source for getting around Key West easily. It's superior to others as it is air-conditioned and not narrated. It does get packed in the mornings, so just have patience and be OK with being packed in there. There's an app that will tell you where the bus is on the route. Just be patient. It's free. Bus Driver was VERY RUDE ! She pulled up to stop #8 with her front sign flashing "Wrong Code"and when she opened her doors I asked "Is this the Duval Loop Bus" she replied "WHAT DOES THE SIGN SAY !" VERY Rude. I told her her front sign said wrong code and her side sign was blank. She did not say another word to me. Just started pushing buttons, then finally after standing there for about 45 seconds Duval Loop came up on the sign, so we boarded. We were glad to not get that blond haired old lady on any of our following trips . This was on last Sunday during early aftrnoon. read more

This was easy to give 5 stars. The city of Key West has really got a hidden gem. This is a recent start up transportation system to get you around the city which is only 2 miles wide. The free bus runs from the Gulf to the Atlantic and all around the world famous Main Street lined with shops,bars,restaurants and all sorts of gift places. It is totally free and has 16 stops along the route. There is a free app that allows you to see the route and actually follow the bus live as it goes around the route. We're staying at the Southernmost Hotel and planning out our stay with the concierge desk. She tells us catch the bus across the street to go to the Marina. Great, do you sell Metro Cards cards here? No sir, its free. Wait, what? Free? Free sir. The buses run every 20 minutes. Man.. I love free! Now I'm thinking in my mind its some old Partridge family school bus and in the back is a guy with a rooster in a cage. My wife & I have a booze cruise scheduled. We get to the stop over one hour early and we wait. All of a sudden, a brand new air conditioned bus pulls up. This is a new, New York City style bus. Free?? We sit and get to our stop, easy peasy. Here's the issue. The cruise ships tell their 5000 passengers there are free buses in Key West. Enjoy! Always plan ahead folks... The next day, we have a event and the bus rolls up backed to the gills. The bus driver says, wait for the next one. We're full. Sorry buddy, I am from New York. I have no time to wait around in the hot sun while there are dopey tourists who don't know proper bus etiquette. I hop on board and yell: Move back! The bus isn't moving until we're all safely behind the line. (Tourists shuffle and move) I need to run everything. read more

We caught the bus near the main cruise dock (stop 4), and rode to stop 8, which is the stop for the Hemingway house. After leaving the Hemingway house, we walked one street over to Duval, and walked back in to town. read more

So happy to have noticed this FREE bus loop service. It was a great way to get around the highlights without wearing out in the heat/humidity. I downloaded the app, enabled gps, and was able to watch where the bus was on the route. Longest wait was 30 minutes, lots of seats available, and the bus was very clean with announced stops. read more

Just for a heads-up we were told this was free, and it was advertised as free on the pamphlet. The bus driver made us pay a dollar a piece when getting on the bus "because we aren't locals". The machine only takes single dollar bills. We were going to tip the driver so we did have ones but ended up not tipping due to not realizing we were having to pay. We go down to Key West every year and 2 or 3 years ago the the Duval Bus was great....always on time. Last year it was HORRIBLE...most of the time it never showed up!!!!! Figured the person that use to be in charge of the Duval Loop bus a few years ago must of retired! Too bad.....because it was a GREAT service....someone needs to get it going correctly again!!!! read more

We happened to get the same outstanding, personable driver 80% of the time over our 11 day stay in KW. The service is fantastic and can only be improved by expanding the southern route out to Casa Marina. Love the FREE service, clean comfortable buses and in our case excellent driver! read more

My family arrived in Key West on the Carnival Glory cruise ship on May 30, 2023. I had been planning this entire trip for months ahead of time, checking on places to go, things to do, and ways to get around. I had checked, double-checked, triple-checked, and quadruple-checked that the Duval Loop was still running. I even checked the times that it was supposed to show up at each stop. I don't know if the stops are inaccurate now and the bus no longer stops at each one...or if it is frequently late...or if possibly it just doesn't come around/stop at every stop when there are cruise lines docked (forcing cruisers to pay for other non-free modes of transportation), but the Duval Loop bus never showed up for us. For when we were there, it was supposed to arrive every twenty minutes, but two of our group members waited well over twenty minutes for the bus, and it never arrived. One of our members had a bad knee and couldn't walk, so we were stuck renting a golf cart type vehicle, which only seated 4 (we had a group of 6), so we spent most of our time in Key West basically chauffeuring the rest of the group around town with two of us hardly getting to do anything besides that. If the bus had been running like it was supposed to and making stops like it claims to, we would have had a much more enjoyable time in Key West. To future travelers, do NOT rely on this as your means of transportation. Unless you plan on walking, rent a vehicle well ahead of time (we had to go to 3 different places the day of to get our vehicle because everyone was booked up). This unreliable transportation of the Duval Loop really put a damper on all of our very first times in Florida. read more

Free and (relatively) frequent. Remember you are on Key West Time! The number of buses on the Duval loop varies from one bus to three buses. So the waiting time between buses varies from 10 minutes to 30 minutes. Get the Duval loop live map on your phone and you can easily plan your trips on the loop. We use it frequently. read more

A new and free(!) hop on, hop off bus service that saved our poor, ol' feet. Downtown Key West is notorious for difficult and expensive parking. The bus runs from 6 am to midnight, appearing every 30 minutes before 10 am and every 15 minutes after that. There's even a website you can track how soon the bus will arrive at your bus stop. Runs 7 days a week Christmas thru Easter and Thurs-Sun the rest of the year. A welcome air-conditioned relief on hot, muggy days---and environmentally friendly. read more

What a waste of a great resource. I found no information on line about the free bus service. It was some locals who told me about the bus and it,s pick up locations. The bus was big, had AC, clean and went all around the island,The driver was rude, like he could not care less about people. TOO BAD..... shame shame. read more

No longer free but a great deal just the same. Our 1st nigh here we Ubered to Mallory Square- saw the sunset & did some bar hopping. $20 round trip. So the Duval Loop is $2 per person all day or $4 for a 7 day pass. CHEAP y'all! We walked to the Southernmost point & mile marker zero & planned to hitch the bus back. Be aware they DO NOT accept debit cards or break cash. We had no singles. The driver was kind enough to give us a lift a few stops since they just started the paid fares. He told us the city really didn't think the car-free thing would catch on....boy were they wrong. The buses took in over a million customers in the 1st year! At a $1 a person....they wised up. Still very cheap. Our driver told us COVID-19 shut them down & they canned 3 drivers. He said the Keywest way was to just mark out the word FREE on their advertising to save money. The Duval Loop is a great addition to Key West!!! It's a free shuttle that has numerous stops. The bus runs a block or so off of Duval on both sides. I hope they continue to utilize this in the future. One of our drivers Mark was really funny. The others were nice but then again I wasn't looking to make friends, I just needed a way to get around town. I noticed that it was utilized by tourists and locals, which was nice to see. read more

I must say this is one of the best service in key west. Frequent interval bus service, stops at/ close to all attraction makes its very useful. Their online map on kwr site is very intuitive and helps a lot to plan trip. Thumbs up and must try if one want to save on local transportation. read more

Convenient and easy to get on and off. Free and takes you about anywhere within walking distance of where you need to go. Some drivers are more friendly than others. Most of the buses are fairly clean inside. We used this daily to get back and forth from our hotel to different restaurants. On/off seasons have different days it runs. So, my info said that Pick Up was at Mile 0 Northbound, when I got to Mile 0, I noticed a bus stop sign opposite Fleming in front of First State Bank, and the Loop Bus was stopped at the red light in front of that sign. I ran across the street and approached the bus door, but the driver acted like he never noticed me. I flailed my arms, and still no acknowledgement. So, I move around to the front area of the bus and now I'm at the front right corner of the bus, again waving my arms in hopes of getting his attention, but still nothing. Now I move a bit more toward the center of the bus, about 6-8 feet in front of the bus, wondering why this guy is staring straight ahead, not even acknowledging me, when he clearly sees me. The light turns green, and the driver LEANS on the horn and floors the gas pedal, at which time I bolt back toward the curb, so, he clearly saw me. I watch as the bus not passes the Mile 0 sign, as an older woman in her mid 60's, tries to flag over the bus, and he passes her also. The bus finally pulls over at the next corner, causing this woman and myself to run up the street to catch the bus. As we enter the bus, the driver says that we need to be at the designated stops. I reply, "Well, had you motioned to me that the stop was further up the street while you were stopped at the light , rather than ignoring me, then leaning on your horn at me, I would have made my way up here". Several people on the bus agreed that this driver was rude and unprofessional, I wish I had gotten his name, but can only describe him as a white male, maybe 40-ish with a goatee and slightly over weight. read more

Unreliable bus service! Waited 25 min @ 6pm on Monday with no bus in sight. All ads say loop runs 7 days a week til 12 midnight, but apparently, not true. Thought this might save me some steps after hip surgery last month, as well as, some cab fare. But NO! read more

Its Rare when government does something right, The Duval Loop is a prime example,of government at it best. It allows cruisers off the boat to go,to the other end of Duval, others to dine locations along the route without having to drive and find nonexistent parking,places. It spreads the,tourist dollars around. It should be expanded. Tourist tax dollars are paying for it and the City should take a bow for a,job,well done. read more

Normally we love the Duval Loop. Free, peaceful, friendly, fast. Today we tracked it online with the phone and left early to catch it. Bus stopped briefly and we were told only to wait for the next bus. Waited about 20 minutes - got on, dis-bussed, and strolled to our little grocery store. Picked up the cold goods and frozen uncured grass-fed wienies. Walked back to the stop and waited approx. 40 minutes. Online we saw there was now only one bus in operation. Migraine started up with patchy vision and the cold super-green kale and arugula wilted and the wienies melted. The goat kefir generated additional probiotics and came up with new exotic strains. The blueberry package hacked a large hole in the relatively eco-friendly bag. The cool bus took the "long way home" - through the new added loop-upon-loop (knit or loop-de-loop) with numerous people crowding on in standing room only. Once I sat, all I could see was waist-high drifty colorful clothing mottled with migraine pattern. All peeps on bus were happy and good-natured, including of course the driver. Some peeps commented about one of the buses being out of order. This particular Loop was a continually crowded and lengthy one demanding patience and purposeful psyching up to refrain from whining like Achilles, an eloquent Labrador we once knew. We theorize that since last year the Duval Loop peeps got ambitious and enthused, expanding the Loop and the TIME it takes to traverse the albeit gorgeous route. It took 3X as long as it did last year. Resulting migraine made me Loopy. read more
