Yep the worst. Employees could care less. Gas tank listed as full had less than 3/4 of a tank. Pretty sure if I don't fill it up before drop off they will charge me. Yes I have evidence but no one answers the phone. So I'll be spending hours no doubt trying to get a refund or giving them an extra $20. Probably a scam where employees are stealing the gas. They suck. Stay away. Oh yeah. Car dirty also. read more

Dollar Car Rental - Gas tank as we exited the parking lot at KW airport. - Car Rental Near Me - Key West, Florida

Avoid this Dollar location at all costs. I had to wait over two hours for a vehicle I paid for two months ago in a stuffy hot waiting room. On top of that, I was given a car with a nail in the tire! Upon calling Dollar/Hertz customer service I was told that I had to pay for any repairs! I tried calling the key west airport location and their phone is disconnected! Thank the lord I have AAA. This is horrendous business practice and I will spend the rest of my life telling people not to use Dollar or Hertz. I deserve a full refund for this garbage. read more

It's impossible to actual speak to a real person. In the old days, you dialed a number and a real person answered the phone. This new tech. does not work. Can we just go back to the good old days? read more

Rented a car two months in advance. When we arrived we were told by Dollar desk agent that it was "out getting washed". One hour later it was not there. Must have been getting detailed. Approached the desk , no time estimate, no other cars, no answers, no supervisor. Suggested we go to Avis next door which we did. They had cars, professionalism and courtesy everything Dollar was sorely lacking. Got refund through Capital One. Don't waste your time trying to rent non existent cars through this second rate company with workers as rude as their company is incompetent. read more

I would never recommend nor will I ever rent from Dollar Car Rental again. As I walked up to the desk, an employee turned around and walked out, leaving me and other customers stranded. After calling dollars 800 Line it made it clear that this company lacks integrity and does not care about their customers! We are still waiting for our refund - and they still want to charge us a fee for their employee walking out on their job! read more

A disaster. No car available, still waiting an hour after we checked in. No explanation or communication from the staff. Apparently they are able to keep prices low by not having cars or vehicles read more

If you want a decent experience, go somewhere else. The 2 ladies behind the counter could care less that you are there. They are short and tend to their own business before helping customers. Once they are finished chatting or talking to each other, they will finally help you. We returned the car on time, fueled up and in the same condition as we got it (not washed). Its been 3 days and they still have not closed out the ticket, which means I am being charged $40 a day to use a car that is 1500 miles away. No one will answer the phone and corporate is worthless. Chose wisely and use a different car rental company. read more

I concur with the other 1 Star reviews. After returning the car (on time and with a full tank) I still get a new $50 charge on my credit card each day. No one answers the phone. No response to my email. No one to check you in when returning the car. Car had not been washed. read more

I am giving this place 1 star because it's the lowest possible option. On our way into Key West for our annual vacation, my wife and I reserved an economy car with Dollar (through Cheapoair). When we got to the counter, we were told that there were no cars available and that we had to wait for cars to be returned and cleaned. There were others there in front of us in line who were saying that they had already been waiting almost 2hours for their car. We waited approximately 1/2 hour and when I approached the customer service rep, she said bluntly, "please get out of line". At that point, I went over to Avis Car Rental and they immediately put me in a comparable (albeit more expensive) car. I guess you get what you pay for. When I reached out to Dollar about a refund of my reservation, they flat out refused. Cheapoair was no better. Not a good way of conducting business. read more

Where do I get started. The woman working the counter for check in didn't even acknowledge us standing at the counter. The car we were provided stunk of cigarettes, was filled with ants, and had so many dings and scratches. The car was so damaged I felt compelled to document the damages before taking the car. Once we returned the car we brought the keys inside. The same woman working the counter was chatting with a co worker. She didn't acknowledge us as we stood at the counter to the point my husband had to interrupt her to ask if there was anything she needed from us. read more

DO NOT RENT. Did not check battery before leaving, it died mid ride and car shut off completely and we almost got hit by a car. Called cops, luckily they stepped in. looking at reviews of key west dollar car rental on various platforms, something needs to change at this place. There is no doubting the affordability of Dollar compared to other bigger name car rental establishments. In Key West, it's about as convenient as can be to get your car. The rental counter is immediately inside of baggage claim when you walk in from the aircraft. Once this initial convenience is over, my experience took a turn for the worse. My flight arrived early which put us 45 minutes early for my car rental. I put a 2:30 pm pickup and we got to the counter at 1:45 pm. I was immediately told that I was early and that they didn't have an economy car for me anyway. I asked if there was anything they could give me since the typical response is to just upgrade us and send us on our way. I was told there was nothing she could do until exactly 2:30. Other car rental companies offer a 30 minute grace period to allow for some unexpected arrival/departure times. I was told to wait until 2:30 or pay an extra $80 for an upgrade. So we waited. Finally, around 2:15, we got a car. On top of all that, they wanted to charge me $11 per day to add an additional driver. That's absurd. Sorry Dollar Rent A Car. I shall never grace your doorway again. Our car was ok. It was a bit worn out having over 45,000 miles on it. read more

I am mad! No customer service whatsoever!!! Zero! Woman at the counter so rude! She doesn't care about the customers and business at all! She should not be working there, period! Doesn't even bother answering my questions, just sits on her cell phone! Waste of my time and nerves! I had a reservation, which I'be got a reply saying they have no cars for me. And She said she doesn't care where I am gonna get it from, it is not her problem! I booked it online and have already paid for it! Useless! No more Dollar! And this happened on8/26 at 9pm. Whoever works that shift, she did not tell me her name when I asked, so it was just a big black lady, whatever her name is! read more

Counter was closed and had to wait at Hertz for an hour and a half. No number to call

If I could give this company zero stars I would. DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM. I arrived at the airport in Key West where no one was in line and was handed a clipboard to sign in. After an hour, I finally received a call from the woman at the counter that I could get my car. They stated they were charging a hold to my card for any damages that occur while in my possession, which I agreed to. However, I returned the car without damage and with a full tank of gas. Now that I am home, they have charged my card another $243 and are stating it is due to being under 25, which was not disclosed to me prior to booking my reservation (Expedia) or at the time I picked up the rental at dollar. When asked to sign for the rental, I specifically asked what I was signing for and the rude woman working at the counter snapped back at me "to rent the car." She would not provide me written or verbal information other than that when I asked. Now that I am home with no knowledge that this charge existed, I have been in contact with both, dollar and Expedia who are refusing to refund me and are pointing fingers at one another for this undisclosed charge. Needless to say, I will not be using either in the future for booking. read more

Do not rent from here!! Additional driver $13, EZ Pass which isn't even in the car $9, horrible customer service. The guy actually told me "and we have satellite tracking on the vehicle, and stealing the car will result in a charge of grand theft auto." Really? You think you're breaking it down for me by letting me know that stealing a car is against the law? Also, the guy said we needed to fill up the tank within 10 miles of the drop off location (even if the tank displays as full), and if we didn't provide a receipt Dollar rent a car could add 1-3 gallons (@$9.89 a gallon) at the "discretion" of the attendant. Yelpers, exercise some discretion and avoid this place at all costs. read more

In Miami, Dollar was the ONLY place that would rent to Mr. QWERTY and I, being under 25 and sans credit card. So on our return trip to Miami, we went with Dollar. It can be a little hard to get an agent, as one agent is usually managing the desks of both Thrifty and Dollar. As a result, they were sometimes short with us. Dollar didn't have an economy car available, so they gave us a free upgrade! We rocked that minivan all the way back to the mainland. read more

Arrived, via plane, in Key West on Friday Morning of Memorial Day Weekend for a 2 night stay. Rented a Ford Explorer for the weekend. When my wife and I got into the vehicle the first thing I saw was that it had not been cleaned at ALL. Not good but since I was only going to be into for less the 3-4 hours total decided I be good and not raise a stink (My bad). Saturday, I plugged my IPOD into the Aux Power jack. When I tried to unplug in later to go into the hotel the whole Aux Pwr Jack came out of the console. When we left, I did tell the person at the counter of the experience. Since I had used Travelocity to book everything it was all paid for so nothing they could do. Won't be so nice next time. Either I'll have them find me a clean vehicle or they can give me an upgrade on the spot. read more

If you like hidden fees and getting ripped off this is your place. My wife and I were going to duck key about 65 mi away, so we were going to get a cab. That's when the cashier told me that the cab ride would cost 200$ in fact it was 175 cause I checked.he told me that the mini van was only 50$ a day (a no brainer). We were only staying 3 days so figured it would it would be $200 to 225 tops. Look at my bank statement today and come to find out they charged me $342 for 3 days for a mini van. So I call them and ask why so much , and the woman starts rambling off all these hidden charges the cashier failed to mention, for instance topping of the gas at $9.58 a gallon . They call it Dollar cause they will steal every dollar from you!! read more

Terrible, terrible service, I will never use their services again and I advice everybody to go with a different company if at all possible. The car we were given was clean and ready when it was supposed to, however: We reserved the Sun Pass (toll pass for a drive from Key West up to Miami) in order to be able to drive north the last day of our stay. However on spot we were told by their representative that she "can't put it in the system" to only get the pass for one day and that we have to pay the Sun Pass for every single day of using the car. She was very unwilling, but when we asked if there was no other way, she finally said that if we come to the office the day before departure, they will be able to book the Sun Pass for that one day only. That didn't happen. This time we faced a very rude guy (he didn't even say hello, just grabbed our papers without a word, when we told him what we came there to do). His first words were "Just click Agree," when the Sun Pass contract came up on the card machine. To our surprise, the bill was to the whole rent, not just the one particular day. Long story short, this guy (Alberto Suri) was uncooperative, unwilling and rude the whole time and the only thing we could do was to pay the Sun Pass for both today AND yesterday - a day we didn't use it, didn't have it and didn't want it. He was unwilling to contact the manager. When the manager called me later on my request, he kept arguing this was my "mistake" and "misunderstanding" and finally - after about 4 minute conversation, hung up the phone on me, while I was speaking. I was polite and calm, although strict in my speech. No company (rent a car or otherwise) has ever dealt with me in such a terrible way, they have a terrible way of dealing with customers. Stay away. read more

Rented a car at MIA airport and returned to Key West the same day. We were going to a show, so I went in to turn the car in. The woman behind the desk was on her cell phone. I gave her the contract and she handed it back to me and told me I was set (while she was still on the phone). I told her what spot it was in and she told me I was all set. I got up this morning, checked my credit card and I was billed for another day. I just got off with someone at the 800 number. He said the contract was showing open, and not closed out. They are looking into it. I live in Key West, and am used to the laid back attitude. No more with Dollar. She obviously was too busy on her phone to take care of a customer! read more

Dollar & Thrifty are the same - same cars, same staff, same prices, & now Hertz is with them. The service is standard - minimal line, but nice staff. This time, they did not have an economy car as I had reserved, & they said they would charge me extra for a mid size, but not more for a minivan, so I took that. But it was too big too drive so I brought it back the next day & they got me a compact, without problem. Later, our return flight was cancelled so wanted to keep the car for an extra day - the toll free reservations people were quoting me much higher prices, but the airport staff charged me a reasonable amount. The car rental area at the airport is literally right there so you don't have to go anywhere for the paperwork or the car. read more

No wonder they call it dollar! You get what you pay for I guess! Don't rent from here! First off we rented an mini can because yes it was cheaper then renting an SUV in key west. We were greeted by a rude employee whom was not very helpful. Every time it declined coverage she would try to talk me into getting the"sun pass" for $99 and then try to scar me with, "well if you get stranded your going to have to call a two truck to take you to the nearest location, and we won't reimburse! What type of s*** is that. Then when we walked out to inspect the can it was beat up, missing pieces inside, dirty, damaged, etc. My husband went back in to ask for a different car, we did not want to be accused of damaging a car which mind you they don't even inspect with you when you rent them out. We were given a more "luxurious" can black leather seats, and DVD player...big mistake..stupid van had roaches in it..I have tried to call the customer service number and speak to a manager only to be told that they are busy on the other line and someone would be calling me back! I'm so disgusted. Trashy, trashy, trashy....I'm sticking to what I know best and that's never dealing with Dollar AGAIN!!! read more

omg got to the car rental stood in line for an hour the line behind us grew and grew then finally after an hour waiting we go downstairs and people that had left the rental place way before us were still standing there waiting on cars. Thank you Dollar Rent A Car for the best rental car experience ever............NOT!!!! I rate this agency a 1 star minus 1 star. We just got stationed here in Key West and thought we would take a weekend trip to Orlando, the woman at the desk told us that with all the fees for insurance and the car itself that it would come out to $64 a day, $256 total. Come to find out once we got in the car and looked at the receipt she charged us $665. Come to find out she gave us full coverage for insurance which we did not want, she also canceled our online reservation on the spot and made us make a new one which wasn't allowed so we did not receive the money back from our online reservation which was prepaid. After all these fees and paying over $900 for 4 days of using a rental car we just got charged another $120 in toll fees!!!!!!!! Apparently you need a sun pass because every pay by plate you go through is a $15 violation fee and the toll charged to your card. All we have gotten from dollar is ton of hidden fees that should have been explained upon renting!!!!!! If you have to rent from here make sure to ask a lot of questions about fees so that you are no blindsided . read more

I rented a car from the Key West airport and drove to Melbourne, FL. the rental alone cost me $206.00 for 2 days. The rental office only had 2 cars available that day both of which were new Chevy Camaros at a rate of $70 a day. what i wanted was a cheap economy car just to get me home for the 2 days i had available before reporting back to my unit and returning to California. with the great selection of different price range models i selected the cheapest one available. just today i received another charge of $155.00. after looking up the customer care number on the website and being put on hold for 10 minutes i was informed that this is not the correct number to call. i was then told the number to call and told that there wouldn't be anyone there at this time as it is not an effective customer care that will be there to help you 24/7. i then called the rental office in key west and they informed me the extra charges were from the tolls. it was never explained to me that i could buy a "Sun pass" to avoid all this trouble or that florida had just recently changed their toll booths to be automatic, as in there is no one there you can actually pay cash to. the rental agent never offered me this money and time saving deal. i feel this would have been valuable information for me to know. however, greed being greed the company probably will not reimburse me any of the money for "my mistake of not reading through 258,000 tiny words on the rental agreement that would have told me they charge $25 per toll!" $25 per toll?!?! this is an astronomical number that's about ten times the average toll fee. do you really need to make this much profit off of these tolls. because of this incident i will never use this company again and will never recommend it to anyone i know, and being affiliated with the military that happens to be a lot of people. so lets sum it up 206+155= $361 for 2 days of use in the only car that was available to rent and maybe $25 worth of tolls. I'm glad that in this struggling economy that the multi-million dollar companies still know how to rip off the struggling average Joe. in case you couldn't tell i'm very displeased with the service and extra fees that this company has given me. read more
