On Saturday the place was not even open so I waited around 20 minutes and the engraver showed up. He told me to come back in the afternoon. ( Third trip now). I had an extremely bad experience here. I would recommend that you search elsewhere if you want an engraving on a special and pricey item because this place is very unprofessional. I brought a $300 bottle of Ace of Spades champagne to be engraved by Engraving Pros. They basically ruined this $300 bottle that I was going to get engraved for a very special event and were very unprofessional about warning on the possibility of chipping and even explaining their method of the engraving to a first time customer with a very pricey item. If you see the photo you would understand what I'm talking about. I can no longer use this for my engagement party because its ruined. They attempted to put a sticker over it and still wanted to charge me for just the sticker which is just crazy when they ruined my item worth more than the sticker and the engraving combined. I took a bottle of perfume to this store to get engraved, and they said they could handle this with no problem. I was very excited. I went and tried to pick it up the next day; and they scratched the bottle. Left a big mark from the sand I'm assuming when they engraved it? I brought this to their attention and they said they would continue to work on it to get it out. I came back two days later and they didn't succeed, and made it way worse. It now has the "tape off" marks on it. I spoke with the owner and he said things happen, and they don't guarantee anything, and to try to take it back to macys where I bought the bottle. (Because yes they are the ones that messed up the bottle LOL) I've very disappointed in their business. They messed up the bottle, and should fix their mistakes instead of saying mistakes happen.. This little engraving shop has been open for 25 years and it doesn't have a yelp page?! Crazy! It's a very neat shop. Not only does it engraving everything from watches and jewlery to mugs and crystal, it also sells items like this. When you buy from them you get a discount on the engraving too (I wanna say 6 letters free but I'm not sure). I and the rest of my family and friends have had great success with them. I've personally gone there to have something engraved twice. A watch and a knife, and both came out beautifully. They take care to know exactly where you want the inscription to be on the item, provide you with many fonts (depending on what you are engraving), and they are usually done in one business day. I took my wedding ring here to have it engraved. It took nearly ten minutes to explain and reexplain the simple message. When I returned to pick it up, the engraved letters came back misaligned. I paid a high price of $35 for this. After paying the cashier said have a nice day. She hadn't even given me the ring I paid for!!! I told her this and she claimed that I put it in my pocket. I showed her my pockets and then she 'found' the ring for me. I emphatically urge others to shop elsewhere for anything important. Terrible service with flawed engravings and high prices. Took the ring back and asked them to buff it out. Got a refund too. A hassle but at least they reversed their mistake. I will take it elsewhere to be done correctly by hand. read more

Engraving Pros is a small shop located in the Grossmont Center mall. They offer laser engraving services which is why I brought my iPod here to get the back engraved. I had no issues with the customer service as I told them what I wanted and was out of there in less than 10 minutes. The turn around time is fast. I was able to pick it up the next day and the engraving came out really well done. As far as the prices go, it's not the cheapest in town. Also, if you happen to bring in something you already own, make sure you take it out of the box or they consider it a brand new item and charge you tax on the services. read more

I had 3 pieces engraved here and several of them had intricate artwork, they came out beautiful. I also had a leather wallet engraved for a Father's day present that also came out very nice. This was my first time having something engraved so I expect engravers to be experts at engraving and recommendations. Not the case here. I brought in a US Coast Guard Medal of silver to be engraved and the person who helped me said "choose any font you want." He didn't offer any suggestions on the type of metal or other insights so I picked a font that looked clear with good spacing. Picked up the completed product and it looks terrible... barely legible. No clarity of the lines or letters at all. And, they didn't capitalize the individual letters of words that were described on the order by the person who helped me (the sales slip had it correct but perso said that their instructions were to do it as the attachment). What a cluster... And it wasn't polished as he said it would be. Disappointed, I asked if it could be redone. No, according to the woman who came out to help me after I asked the person helping me for more info. She also mentioned during my conversation with her that certain fonts work better with certain metals. Wow, that would have been helpful if I had known that when I initially came in. Then to top it off, after three mistakes (no guidance on fonts, error on capitals, not polished, and not a quality job, not a single offer of compensation other than to "bring us another one and we can re-do it." Bad experience for me and not going back. My medal is ruined and the gift that I had spent $40 having engraved looks like an amateur did it. They should have refunded my money and offered additional solutions. I'll try and post a picture of medal. read more

My sister and I needed a plaque engraved for our fathers container for his ashes and had to have it quickly to send up North. I made a mistake on it and didn't catch it until I went home. When I went back she showed me my original and I did write it wrong instead of charging me over for it I was charged a small amount and she had it done quickly. I have nothing but good things to say about the Pros at Engraving Pros! The staff are courteous and professional and know what they are doing. The plaque came out beautifully and the first young man who helped me had great ideas to suggest. Horribly run shop. Spoke with employee on the phone stating they could do same day engraving for $30. Drove out there with my family and was told it would actually by $55.17 by Derek but it could be done in an hour and we should just "walk around the mall" and he would give us a call. After 90 minutes or so, I return to the shop and am told by Harold that it may not be done today and when I tell him I paid $60/he for their "labor", I expect them to honor their side of the agreement, he passes me off on the phone to the "manager" (Nicole) who may be the CEO (his words not mine). She informed me that because she's not there(shocking for a manager to be around I know) that they are too backed up today to complete(which was never mentioned before now or else I wouldn't have paid $60 for next day service). All in all it's a company that fails to deliver on their promises which when it comes to laser engraving items, it's important people do what they say they will do. Save yourself over priced charges and two teenagers without supervision making sales without any regard for their customers and find someone else read more

This is not my first time dealing with these folks and while the first few items I had done with them a number of years back were sufficient, this last experience was a nightmare. I ordered two beautiful French Opinel knives for a father and son (my step-brother and nephew, both Marines) who are deploying at the same time. On it I wanted matching family crests with the latin for out family motto inscribed. Said crest was on file with EP and I had taken great pains two years ago to ensure the crest and latin were perfect. While the Opinels were quite a bit more expensive through EP than any other retailers available I was ensured free engraving so we went ahead with the project. The knives arrived and we settled on design elements and placement over the phone, verifying spelling and approximate completion times. When I went to pick the knives up I saw that the latin had been misspelled. The correct spelling was on file as both the file name and as the inscription for previous projects. In addition, the latin used is quite common and easily verified from a number of readily available sources. In short, there is no excuse for the latin to have been incorrect. Rather than offer to replace the knives and redo the work, EP stated that they were not responsible for the misspelling despite the fact that the file was saved under the correct spelling and previous projects were spelled correctly. They stated I could reorder the knives at their cost plus a small charge and they'd redo the work. This put the project over budget (essentially I'd need to eat the cost of the original knives and pay around 75-80% of the original price for a reorder) and past due (the knives would not be ready before the intended recipients' deployment date). This was unsatisfactory and I made the fact known. EP reluctantly offered to sand the incorrect work down and attempt a redo of the engravings. Left as my only viable choice to save the project I agreed. Today I picked up the knives and while the spelling was correct, the sanding job had been done haphazardly, the finish ruined and the overall appearance of the item completely destroyed. The knives were no longer of a quality worthy of any gift. When I demanded a refund EP refused, suggesting that, "Since I did not take them up on their previous offer that I was stuck with the botched project." I will never use EP again and highly recommend you steer clear of them. I am writing this as a veteran, brother, and uncle of deploying service members. This was an important project to myself and my deploying family members and EP utterly and completely ruined it, taking no responsibility for the botched job and showing no remorse (in fact upon "completion" and receipt of my final complaint they showed total disdain for the veterans I mentioned, stating that "sometimes things just don't work out" shrug). I gave this a two star rather than a one star because they at least made a freshman attempt to remedy the situation but their failure to treat the items with the respect they deserved and the total lack of professionalism during the entire process is more deserving of one star. Stay away from these folks. Do not give them the opportunity to ruin any project of importance. Do not trust them to have your interests at heart. Do not expect them to stand behind their services. Do not expect to be treated well. Expect your project to be delayed THEN ruined Expect to be over budget VETERANS / ACTIVE DUTY: AVOID EP AT ALL COSTS TAKE YOUR BUSINESS TO THE HALF DOZEN ALTERNATIVES AROUND TOWN. read more

06/18/11. Service & purchase here reminded me why I L-O-V-E small family owned businesses. Due to my procrastination - I was in search for a gavel + engraving. Called that Friday and Carol put aside the gavel I had & recommended I come in to check out since they're able to do one hour engraving & to make sure that it's what I wanted. I was satisfied with what I saw but I had to come back the following day since I ended up coming after the owners left already - but I did get a courtesy call on Friday to let me know exactly what time I could come in the following morning. I was in a rush to get the gavel & leave - forgot the owner's name - but he put it in a box, added the tissue paper, and i was off. Luckily I wanted to show my cousin how it turned out, where she caught we misspelled a word. So I had to return - checked the slip & the worker signed it off, and I did as well - but the owner was more than accommodating to redo the engraving. he had customers he had to attend to when i returned, which i respected since he was giving them his undivided attention, despite my rush. read more

I came in here for one of the guys on my team at work, he was leaving the unit so we decided to get him something special. The guy who helped me was really nice but didnt really know anything about engraving.i told him the general idea of what we wanted, and he assured me the people who engrave it would know how to set it up, since "they do stuff like this all the time". I left the item with its sheath (it was an axe), and a general quote as well as an assurace that the item would be finished in four days. When i went to go pick it up there was a young woman who helped me. It was a monday and you could tell she did not want to be at work. I saw the engraving and didnt really like the positioning or the font, but thatbwas more my fault. Except for the font, i specifically asked for bold letters. I noticed the item did not have its sheath, which i mentioned to the young woman. She concisely replied that if it wasnt written on the receipt then they didnt have it. The engraving was well done though. I could have been more specific and not been so dissapointed. Regardless, I'm never comong back here again. read more
