First time we went we had to wait 25 mins. Not for a table, but because there was no wait staff. We gave it another try when we were in town again and was again disappointed. My wife and I have eaten at Engrained several times and enjoy the fresh beer , the dark Ipa was fabulous. The Philly cheeseburger was cooked to my order and was very tasty. We went here for Father's Day. Upon arrival we were told there would be a 25 minute wait, we agreed and sat in the waiting area. As we were waiting at least 10 other people came in and were told the same thing but decided to leave instead. Once we were seated we saw that there were plenty open tables and couldn't figure out why they were turning people away. I walked around one of there other sections and it was not bussed at all, maybe this is why they were turning people away as it was still un-bussed when we left. For an appetizer we ordered the cheese curds which were good but didn't make up for the service or the waitresses seemingly "I don't really want to be here" attitude. For my entree I ordered the filet medium rare. When our main course arrived the garlic mashed potatoes were lumpy and under flavored. The 3 asparagus that came with the meal were cold. After cutting into my steak the color seemed O.K. at best but it was completely and utterly dry, I'm talking about no blood on the plate, which for medium rare should not happen. It seemed that the chef pressed down on the steak on the grill, which should be an obvious no-no. All in all I heard about this place before going but wanted to try it anyway. Nice, easy going atmosphere. Very willing to give taste tests on the craft beers. Lots of TVs for the avid sports fan. Food was good and offered in a way that fit my dietary needs. I would definitely cone back again. My only complaint is that they don't make a Porter... but the chocolate Boch was an adequate substitute. Great food. Great Service. I have a gluten allergy and the server was awesome. He was very careful about checking in with the kitchen then back to me when he discovered part of my meal contained gluten. The menu is great and shows vegetarian and gluten free choices that are clearly marked. I ordered the BBQ burger with a gluten free bun. The server realized there were fried onions on the burger so he came back to clarify if I had a food allergy. When he brought the meal he assured me the fries were gluten free. Passing through town and thought I'd stop. When I pulled up I became concerned. It reminded me of the sterile brewpub chains from the 80/90s where the beer was bland and the food was frozen. But I found the beers to be be excellent and I'm a beer snob (although I did not try the IPA). The food is sourced locally and everything is prepared fresh. Highly recommend. The thing that struck me was all the younger couples with kids there. It's a place you can do that. As an older guy I did not mind. Everyone looked happy! read more

UPDATE: Still awful. Went back to give it another chance. 45 minute wait for our appetizer (pork skins) which only came with THREE on the plate. THREE tiny pork skins. It was embarrassing. We tried the wheat beer. It was watery and not carbonated properly. I'm sure this is something they will fix moving forward but why bring it out when it's not good? Yuck. My favorite part was that I could hear one of the male managers screaming profanities in the kitchen. He dropped the F bomb more than once. THEN another manager was yelling at the host stand! I cannot believe how unprofessional the management is in this establishment. I thank my lucky stars my waitressing days are over. Do servers just put up with being treated poorly these days? Is that how the industry works? It's sad really. I will say the wait staff does a good job. I watched them clean off other people's tables without hesitation and they run all over the place. Been to Engrained twice now and have had great beer, food, and service both times. The cheese curds and potato skins are excellent choices from the starter menu. The pizza was excellent, so much that I've had it both times I've been there so far. Next time I'll have to try a little more of the menu. My wife did love the roasted vegetable salad, she was impressed with the fresh ingredients and full flavor. I'd recommend this for anyone who loves beer and is looking for something a little different than the typical chains out there. read more

What can I say. Very disappointed. I was unimpressed the first time I went but thought I'd give it another chance. The beer was good but so what. I can get good beer lots of places. Was there at 7:00 on a Sunday evening and they were out of steak!?! Really? No steak? Really bummed but ok I'll order the Beer Braised Chicken. Big mistake. Tasted like a Stouffers frozen dinner. The mashed potatoes were cold and lumpy. Got a "Caesar salad" as a side. Turned out very bland and uninspired. The dressing was some sort of caesar vinagrette, I would assume out of a bottle, with just a few sprinkles of parm cheese.....not good at all. If you look at their web site and ads, you'd think they are a neuvo, local ingredient, made from scratch type establishment. The food doesn't even come close to that. My husband and I have eaten at Engrained on a few different occasions. I do remember the first experience wasn't the best due to the server. However on the last two visits (I decided to give it another try) I have to say the dining experience has been wonderful. The food is amazing, as well as the beer, lets not forget the beer. I love the beer bread appetizer and the nachos. I would agree with another reviewer that the temperature in the establishment is very cold, but I am cold at almost every restaurant and come prepared with a sweater and or jacket. I would and have recommended Engrained to my friends and family. Glad I gave it another chance! read more

Great place for a Friday night after work wind down. We can enjoy a drink and have a casual vegetarian meal - not always easy to do in Springfield. The hummus is a great appetizer choice for everyone. It's very flavorful! The black bean burger is my husband's favorite and I enjoyed the Fall Harvest salad.
