The house is winterized so it just absorbs heat and at times inside would be hotter than it was outside. Even with the air on we could never get the downstairs below 77 degrees. Upstairs was a sauna. It made it hard to sleep. I checked around different companies for prices on diagnostics.I spoke with Zane at Element Air and they were running a special where they'd run a diagnostics on our AC and furnace for $129 so we went with them. The tech that came out and was super knowledgeable! Answered all of our questions and was never annoyed by us asking what had to be dumb ones. They diagnosed all our AC problems and some with the furnace and fixed them, all at a very reasonable price. The AC is blowing cold. We were actually shocked yesterday when we were doing yard work and then came inside and the house was cool for once! We are going to have them come out again to give the furnace another check before it starts getting cold. I'm really happy with them and their work. 5 stars!

After hard selling us on this for the first couple of hours he realized that he didn't have any vinegar and had to go to the grocery store to get some. The problem is somehow fixed but his explanation was so vague I'm not convinced he knows how he did it. Pretty pricey for what little was done, mostly because of those two phone hours where we funded his training.

Last August/September I called Shaw Plumbing for a water heater estimate. I got a second opinion today (took me a while) before agreeing to anything. My new plumber found the unit was actually 13 years old and functioning fine -- no replacement necessary. In other words, everything I was told to justify a $5,000 job was false. I'll let readers draw their own conclusions about what happened here. What I do know is: get a second opinion before you sign anything with this company, especially if you're being told something needs to be replaced "ASAP." Feels like elder abuse and / or gender discrimination to me.
