Yes it took a full hour to get our food. With no one else in the restaurant. Should have been a clue. My food wasn't even piping hot when we got it. It was lukewarm as best. So the taste was just ok. Fish very salty. Pasta flavor was ok. My friend enjoyed her meal but was also disappointed in the wait and the warmness of the food. Presentation was good however. I asked for a to-go container and the check. The server said ok and then went to talk to another employee for an additional 20 min as we were waiting to finish up and leave. It was noticeably more expensive than expected. I typically do a good job having a roundabout idea of what we're spending when we order, so I knew something was up. It wasn't until after we asked for an itemized copy of the receipt (that we had to ask someone else for), that we saw that she included gratuity in the total without saying anything about it. I'm glad I noticed because I could have easily given double gratuity without even knowing I was doing so. I was a bit frustrated with that aspect of the experience. The food was mostly good. We ordered the bbq shrimp as an appetizer - their creole bbq sauce was AMAZING! I couldn't get enough. I got their smash burger as an entree. Potato fondue was mashed potatoes, the biscuits were dense and flavorless, but the truly comical moment of the evening was when they brought my 6'6 husband's ravioli to him. $18 for one ravioli that (he said) was *not even good*. I am shocked at the positive reviews and overall rating Amelia Gene's has received. Maybe we hit it on a very off night? Maybe we don't get "it"? Either way it's not for us. On the bright side, I've had weeks of making fun of my husband's face at the sight of the one ravioli, and that's gotta be worth something.
