I've been following Endless Life on Instagram since before they opened. But every time I try to find them on Yelp, I can't. Turns out nobody actually created the Yelp listing. Well, fret no more! It's ok, you don't have to call me a hero. Finally stopped in Endless Life. They took over the space that was previously the Bad Seed Taproom, and they've definitely made the most of it. Very long bar, high tops all along the walls, a small elevated back room with framed art (that you can buy), and then a pretty sizable and heated backyard! Perfect for any occasion. The sole bartender for the night was Tyler Allen, and he was a super cool dude. Kept the good tunes going. I tried all three of the beers they had on tap - Para Siempre (Mexican lager), Does This Feeling Come Again? (barrel aged mixed culture saison), and Monoculture of Free Thinkers (barrel aged Berlinerweisse). The Para Siempre was very crushable, but I was a big fan of the more complex barrel aged ones. The Berlinerweisse was smooth with a taste of grain. But the saison was probably my favorite. Very crisp, not too tart. I also got a can of Construed To Waste Your Time, which was a very crisp and summery Kolsch. Could definitely pound a few of those back. Next time, I'll bring more friends because they don't do bottle pours (hint, hint), and I really wanted to try some of those. I guess I'll just have to come back soon!

Smoke Follows Beauty

Went to Endless Life Brewing for trivia night on Tuesday. The place does not feel like a traditional brewery, but it has a solid beer list and plenty of events going on. Quality: Endless Life Brewing leans towards old world styles. The menu had a lot of diverse options, and not one IPA, which is a bold statement. I really liked the Smoke Follows Beauty, smoked lager. Great flavor and a refreshing beer. I was not crazy about the Dissident, an Irish red ale, too sweet for me. The Lil' Bit O' Luck, amber stout was interesting. A small pour of it was the right choice, but it was a fun mix of flavors. Quantity: Beer sizes well marked and they encourage tastings. Value: $8-$13 for Draft Beers. Ambiance: Endless Life Brewing is a brewery located in the Crown Heights area of Brooklyn. It looks more like a bar than a brewery and I'm not entirely sure where they actually make the beer. It is a narrow space with bar area towards the center and tables around it. They have a small backyard patio, which was taken over by the food pop-up. One television behind the bar and one large screen across from it showed sports. Music was all pop punk until trivia started. Crowd: Busy for trivia, most tables were filled. They use events like trivia, vinyl night, and bingo to bring in guests. Service: They could have used a second person behind the bar. Parking: Tough parking, but easy train access.

Endless Life is definitely a chill vibe. The backyard is perfect for whatever mood you're in: whether it's decompressing by yourself in peace with the Succinctly Concise Pilsner or Para Simpre Mexican Lager or want dinner with friends - perfect sharing any one of the bottle-conditioned brews and gettin' cozy by the heaters. Adirondack chairs + blankies keep me warm in the cold season. (I also carry hot-hands...) Beer is EXCELLENT! The saison Does This Feeling Come Again? is a WOW beer, the kind that blew my mind the first time I tasted it (and a most memorable share to add to my personal experience). It's got a lot of character! I find it wild, with an oaky presence that amplifies some of the naturally earthy flavors in saisons, bright in color, faint botanical aromas, again, likely oakiness from the barrel-aging. I would recommend any of the bottles as they're all pretty special - Slow Motion Replay (this is a lovely red sour, very much electrifying, spine-tingling tartness) and Stranger Than Kindness are must-try's. Industry events and homebrew clubs meet-up here, you will often meet someone who knows their shit about brewing and can certainly inspire or mentor you without ego or pretentiousness. The owner is very supportive of the industry he has helped build by bringing awareness and attention to all the pieces of the NYS Craft Beer industry to the public: malt + hop farms, etc. Great staff! Excellent Service! Tyler Allen gets a shout-out - thank you for great company and service always. There are snax and a couple of non-alcoholic options (altho please don't be that person who goes to any brewery or bar with the expectation they can accommodate your specific needs - if you don't drink alcohol and/or have problems being around it - choose a venue that fits your needs, don't give bartenders doing their jobs a hard time - be a grown up and be realistic.) Bring your own food, bring pups or kiddies, bring your own tote to take home mixed 4-packs and grab those bottles - those are very special. Art gallery (with local artists' works for sale) occupies the space. Exhibits every other month or so. Drink-n-Draw events. DJ booth (BYO Vinyl!) Projector in taproom, often showing photos, but sometimes shows other things. VERY easy to get to! Two blocks from Franklin Ave C or four from Nostrand-Bedford A/C trains. Walking distance from G, as well.

A HAITIAN PIZZA BAR OF SORTS…read more One of my co-workers suggested that we meet her after work because: (1) It's walking distance from work...The equivalent of taking the long way home. (2) We both needed a drink after an eventful, extra long work shift. We got the rum punch which was good but too strong for a Tuesday. (3) I had a craving for Haitian-style herring so we shared a herring pizza. Please note I approached this slice with the most apprehension that I ever had in life and was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it. Their pizza crust has an interesting crunch and flakiness to it that definitely giving homemade with a unique flair. The sauce was holding on to the generous amount of mozzarella while the herring and peppers were the shining star toppings. I enjoyed it so much that I would definitely order it again. If you are looking for a chill bar atmosphere with reimagined Haitian food classics to nosh on then come on in. Thursdays might not be so chill because it's Dance Thursdays and a DJ will be spinning Konpa chunes. It's work a try.

On the positive side, it's a very spacious bar and I saw board games stacked up, which tells me it can be a fun place to hang out. Now to the not as great. I sat at the bar and after looking at their cocktail menu, I ordered a French 75. You can imagine my surprise when I was served a drink in a single rocks glass which is basically what you'd serve an old fashion or other cocktail in. A French 75 needs to be in a flute. And at first, I thought maybe they don't have any flutes. Which still perplexed me because why have a French 75 on the menu if you don't have the right glassware. But I looked behind the bar and lo and behold, saw a flute. So not sure what that was about. The drink itself was ok. The other weird thing is that when I ordered, she rang it up and handed me the handheld device to pay. Since I was sitting at the bar, I'd expect to at least be asked if I wanted to open a tab or to just wait. Payment before the drink was made just rubbed me different. And of course, gratuity was tacked on, also rubbed me wrong. Because while I planned to tip, adding your own tip automatically to 1 drink is icky.

Bartender Camden was welcoming and friendly, it was fun to chat with him on a quiet afternoon. The space is along a quiet street with low ceilings, it's very cozy with soft lighting and art, plus beer signs. The beer menu was great with some fun styles. They have a small selection to go as well. If you're looking for a quiet and cozy spot to enjoy some local beer, this is a great option and I'd definitely come back!

It seemed like she didn't want to be there and anytime I asked questions about the beer, she had an attitude like I was bothering her. I ordered a flight and I enjoyed the beers. They have some great tasting beers on tap. The music was great, it was a blend of 90's jams. They don't serve food, but they allow you to bring in your own. The decor was simple, felt a bit cold and the vibe was chill. It's a small interesting space, when we arrived it was just us and 2 other small parties. When we left, there was a chaotic stroller party happening in the back. The brewery filled up pretty quick on a Saturday afternoon, with one slow moving angry woman pouring beers, it took awhile to get a beer. If the woman behind the bar had provided better customer service, I might have left a higher scoring review. I really wanted to like this place. Will I be back, probably not.

BierWax is a craft beer and vinyl record listening bar that opened in Brooklyn, New York in 2017…read more It was founded by DJ and record collector Chris Maestro. Born in Queens to a Guyanese father and a Dominican mother, Maestro grew up in Flushing, Queens with a fervent love for hip-hop. He started DJing in his early 20s and has collected records obsessively ever since, particularly in genres that gave rise to hip-hop: funk, soul and jazz. He was bitten by the craft beer bug during a trip to Hong Kong in 2005, and his search for new brews led him to craft beer festivals and brewery tours. Early on, Maestro noticed that there weren't a lot of people of color at craft breweries or craft beer bars. He longed to open his own space where people like him could feel right at home and discover new beer in the process. In addition to BierWax's finely curated tap list, the bar is also home to over 5,000 vinyl records. The bar frequently hosts guest DJs as well. BierWax has a strict "No Requests Please" policy--not because of "High Fidelity"-style snobbery, but because there are just too many records to manage. If every customer made a request, the bar would need a dedicated team just to comb through the stacks. And then who would pour the beer? I visited BierWax this past summer while I was cycling around NYC. I was trying out a number of Brooklyn and Queens breweries and pizzerias and this was my second stop of the day. Craft beer and vinyl are two of my favorite loves, so I felt right at home here. Not only was I impressed by the craft beer selection but also the enormous amount of vinyl records adorning the shelves on the wall. There was a great playlist going during my visit and the bartender on duty was a really cool guy who engaged in some great conversation with me. I enjoyed pours of The Seed's "As Simple As Renewal?" (Kellerbier) and The Drowned Lands' "Summer Terra" (Double New England IPA). Both of them were fantastic! Although craft beer bars that feature vinyl are becoming more common now, BierWax is a place that is truly special. I highly recommend this bar to craft beer and/or vinyl aficionados and I really hope to return!
