First off I'd like to start out by saying that I use to work here. Both Marc and John are good guys. This is the type of surf shop you want to go to when you don't want your surfboard made by a computer.    They have a good verity of stuff for guys and gals. If there is something that you may want and don't see just ask Marc and will try to find away to get it for you. John Kies shapes the boards and is in the shop I think still one day a week if you have any questions for the man himself.  They are both very helpful and stand up guys.    Encinitas Surfboards has been around since 1975 and they are still kicking ass! If asked I would highly recommend Encinitas Surfboards to anyone. Stop in even if it's for something as simple as a bar of wax, these to guys are great. read more

Friendly and knowledgeable customer care! While not a huge store, it is jammed with gear for surfers. I had never been in the store, but needed to pick up some wax and was on the 101 so decided to stop in. So glad I did! First, when I ran into the store someone behind the counter (who was waiting on someone else) greeted me! I was so surprised, my first thought was 'are you talking to me?' Never been greeted at any surf shop. Next, I started looking at the wax when someone else (Clarissa?) asked me if I had any questions or needed help. Wow, now this is customer care I said to myself. As someone newer to surfing, I had lots of questions about removing wax, which comb is best and why, types of wetsuits for spring/early summer, etc. Long story short, I learned a lot and bought more stuff than I had planned. Came to pick up a friend's board where he had his funboard's nose fixed and color matched for small rail cracks and dings, and as someone who goes to ropers I was surprised to see it was a $90 charge for minor damage. OK I thought, it's not my money anyways and they did a great job on the fix, but I felt like my buddy was overpaying for PU. Inspected the board a bit more, and I found significant damage on the bottom of the board. it looked like the bottom got hit, and had thus cracked the glassing and expanded like a small thumb sized tumor that was soft to the touch. Definitely would take in water if surfed, and my friend would have definitely noticed and pointed it out to be paid and fixed. I talked to the guy at the desk about this, and he said that they only fixed dings that were pointed out (which of course, makes sense), but we all suspect that it was Encinitas that had damaged this board unintentionally. There was no way for us to prove that this had not been there when it was dropped off, so if you DO choose to get a repair here make sure that they declare no other dings on your board before dropping it off! As of now they haven't taken responsibility of this ding and now my bud is off to another place to get it fixed and bummed that his board's out for another week... I don't know how the repair shop looks like from the inside but there are a couple tight doors and corners they had to bring the board through and the shop is pretty cramped compared to others in the area so I expect that there are areas that could potentially damage boards coming through. Maybe they'll come through after reading this post? I hope so. That said I'm sure the staff is cool and such and this place is definitely a good local shop, but I WOULDNT recommend fixing your board here. There are other places cheaper, more dedicated and open (space wise) for fixing your board. read more

This is defnitely the place to go for your surfing needs. They have everything a local could ask for...from clothes to boards to wax to sunscreen. It really makes you feel like a surfer when you come into this place. The people that work here are laid back and really nice. The only not-so-cool thing is that it's a little cramped inside. Plenty of room to walk around and look at things, but not enough to have 20 people in there laying down and taking a nap. read more

I went in today to buy a spring suit. I asked a simple question regarding size and the owner was apparently discussing his time share with another customer, he looked over at me and ignored me. I did receive help from a younger guy which answered my question. I tried several of them and decided since I was initially irritated with the lack of respect from the owner. I decided to keep my money and go elsewhere. So moral of the story they lost out on a 85$+ Wesuit purchase because of his big ego and lack of respect. I ended up buying the same suit for 65$ new elsewhere. read more

This local shop is a SoCal daddy of local surfshops with The highest level of customer service ever. They treat my 14 yr. daughter with respect. They treat me as well with respect, appreciation for our business and educate us what board/gear is suitable for her. Recently, I did an online order for some hoodies and they shipped priority the next day with personal phonecall from Matt to make sure everything was correct. Yes, i live boderline csbd san marcos but if i can avoid encinitas blvd to get there just for hoodies, i'll do it. Encinitas Surfboards is a pretty nice surf shop. Their prices are pretty expensive ($60 for most board shorts?), but they are absolutely packed to the gills with tons of accessories, boards, apparel and what have you. The service has always been friendly and they have a really strong local following. I feel like you can still find surf shops like this all around North County, but ones that have better prices and are a little kitchier (which is what I like). This is the local favorite. Locals will eat up every t-shirt, sweat shirt, and surf rack this company turns out. As far as branding goes, they have captured a good chunk of the local surf clothing market. If you have a kid in school I recommend getting some t-shirts and clothes from here. When it comes to in store board room selection, they lighter than other local alternatives but always worth checking out. read more

Their selection can't match the surf superstores, but they stock the place with great product. Big surf stores work on customer service. Encinitas Surfboards simply treats you as a friend. just picked up surfing a few months ago and decided to get some crossbar pads for my longboard at this shop. knowing of this brand since i was young while growing up in carlsbad, i was excited to actually check out and use some of their merch. no staff greeted me once i entered, which is whatever, but would have been nice to be acknowledged as a customer. couldn't find the crossbar pads and asked the employees at the front where they were and they kindly showed where they were and asked about which ones i was looking for. but the one middle aged blonde lady that was helping me out and rang me up, working there at 11/23 2:55 pm, had the a u d a c i t y to say aRe ThEsE pAdS jUsT fOr ShOw. very rude and uncalled for. sure i had a lot of questions, but first time shopping for pads of my own. i'm all for supporting local businesses and shopping small, however, this small remark ruined my first experience here at this shop. don't know if i can come back again. read more

Encinitas Surfboards is the epitome of San Diego. Think: sandals and a smile. Great selection of t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, etc. Of course, they also have wetsuits and beach gear and any surfing supplies you could ever need. The staff is always very nice and I love popping in there when I'm in the area. Whenever I have friends visiting from out of town, I like to bring them in so they can pick up some gear. Big ups to Matt at the shop. I went in today and bought a set of FCS II fins for my new Bill Johnson and he helped me out getting them in, standard good customer service, nothing major to review. I went surfing and one of them popped out never to be seen again. I called the shop and Matt went right into action. He took my name and number and called FCS within 10 minutes he called me back and told me that they would be sending a replacement fin to the shop free of charge. Stoked on that customer service which I why if I need surf gear they are my first stop from this point forward. Thanks again for going the extra mile. read more

OK in my book (being generous, more of a 3.5). I lost a quad fin to the reef, they opened up a new package and sold me the individual fin that I lost (albeit not at a price of a qtr of the retail, but something Sun Diego or Surf Ride would not do). Slight demerit for recommending me some Parko (Kinetic Racing) fins which I really don't like, compared to the Futures I was planning on buying. Also, prices could be a little better for repair kits and what not, but staff is friendly when I've dealt with them. Board selection kind of sucks, but they are a shaper so I wouldn't expect them to have a ton given the size of the shop. read more

This shop is the real deal. It's small, but is jam packed with shirts, hats, new boards, used boards, shoes, wetsuits, and literally anything a surfer could want. They are locals, are super chill, and genuinely care about giving you a good time and a good value. Very receptive to what your needs are, and will not try to highball you into buying the most expensive board. I live in Encinitas now, and will gladly rock clothes from this place. This place and Hansons stood out to me as THE surf shops in Encinitas. I prefer this one because it doesn't sell any trendy boutique items like Hanson's does. This is someplace that you would see in a 80's surf movie. Authentic and the staff is easy going and funny. Purchased a large size boogie board (didn't know they made those) and shirt hoodie hat combo. To be honest the clothing items were way overpriced for the quality but you pay for the logo. Having just moved into the area I really wanted something to wear that represents my new home "Encinitas Surfboards" says it all. Will definitely go back if I need any surf related items. read more

I bought two t shirts at Encinitas Surfboards recently. After washing one shrank so badly that it's basically unwearable. That make it about $50 for one decent t shirt. That's unacceptable. I don't have any shirts from Hansen's for the same reason. Not going back anytime soon. read more
