My bike after the tune and brake job
Sam N.

just nowNEW This is a pretty amazing bicycle shop. If you come here be ready to spend some serious money, but they have some top notch stuff. And the selection is enormous. There's even a huge selection of used bikes.

Fox DHX2

I needed a specific Fox shock Rezi can adapter. I checked with four other bike shops close to me, none had it. Finally called Encina, they had the tool and told me to come in. Was helped right away when I got there. Not only did they help me with the tool, but they noticed my shock needed a re-bleed. They helped me with that too! Steven is AWESOME! Very knowledgeable! Encina is my new favorite bike shop!

This place has horrible service, gave me the wrong wheel after I went back inside to complain for the right size, guess what they gave me the wrong side and I put it on my bike and the inner-tube

Getting it done!

They don't know how to fix bikes and do a mediocre job. They fix something then a new problem occurs.

Very helpful! I had issues with my bike and they held me in less than 1 to fix it, adjusting the front wheel and both brakes.

Ask the Community - Encina Bicycle Center

Does anyone know when Encina Bikes is going to re-open? I arrived today Monday at 11:30 AM to return my rental bike but the shop was closed up and no one answering the phones. Also, yesterday 6/28 Sunday I couldn't reach the shop by phone.

The staff is always helpful and friendly, and the owner Tim helps me himself, or makes sure I'm taken care of if he is with another person.

Shoutout to Eugene for convincing me to spend my $15k somewhere else. I recently had a bike destroyed in a bike-car accident, so I went to RA planning to buy a helmet and potentially a new bike. When Eugene asked what brought me in, I told him I needed a helmet and was looking at bikes since mine had been destroyed. He laughed and asked if I was planning to just walk around wearing a helmet. After I explained the accident, he apologized. I mentioned I liked the Dogma X and said my budget was around $12-13k (I was realistically open to $15k). His response was: "That's out of your price range. Let's look at something cheaper." When I repeated that I liked the bike, he ignored it and moved on. Then he asked my bike size. I had just been professionally fitted at Innersport and was recommended a 49 frame. When I told him that, he laughed and said, "I'm sorry, but you're not a 49." When I told him I had just been fitted, he responded, "I can't imagine anyone recommending you a 49. I'm not entertaining that you're a 49." I had to pull up my fitting measurements before he reluctantly admitted I could "pass as a 49." The whole interaction was belittling and embarrassing. I've heard people describe the shop as having a "bro" culture that can feel unwelcoming, and that's exactly how this experience felt. In the end, I left without buying anything and instead went to Capdata in Concord, where I ordered a Factor Ostro VAM with SRAM Red, a helmet, and other gear. RA carries beautiful bikes, but if you're looking for respectful service, my experience suggests you may want to shop elsewhere.

It's an amazing-looking shop, and it was cool to see so many Rivs everywhere inside!! We had a great time chatting with Grant and Harry, and Grant had me test ride a few of the bikes which was fun. (Might've convinced me to get my own Riv.....) We will definitely be back to visit next time we are in the Bay! These are great quality bikes, and you'll get some great customer service along with them!

Will has always provided great service to me anytime I've had a question via email or needed help with an order. Riv doesn't stock a lot, but what they do stock is really all you need. Everyone there uses what they stock on their site, and will share their firsthand experience with all of it. My Rivendell got me into cycling again for the first time since college, and the non-competitive and non-judgmental staff at Riv is a breath of fresh air compared to your local big three dealership. Don't spend that next $5k on a carbon roadie, take it and put it toward a Rivendell. It'll be the best purchase in your cycling career. You'll probably be so free of regret, you'll start buying Rivendells for your family--at least I did!
