Fantastic shop with extremely knowledgeable people and excellent service! Recently had a couple major services with Jesse and Jake working on my bike over the course of a few weeks, and I came away really impressed. (and the bike rides absolutely amazing now). More details below. For context, I ride ~500+ miles a month on a custom made road frame from no22, which has an unusual stem/routing setup and can be a real pain to work on. One day, the di2 front derailleur stopped working entirely, and I couldn't revive it. A friend had recommended Rhythm so I stopped by, and Jesse immediately recognized the issue as a common problem that we could warranty as soon as I handed over the bike. We scheduled the FD warranty replacement quickly, and also some more service for later since the bike was long overdue for a lot of maintenance. The second major service later was where they really went above and beyond. - There was no headset maintenance scheduled, but they noticed that the headset had come loose way too soon after they last saw the bike, and something wasn't right. - Jake spent a lot of time going back and forth with the frame builder on the headset issue, and got them to ship out some replacement headset parts. - When the maintenance was scheduled, Jake got really sick. Knowing the havoc this wreaks on shop schedules, I was fully prepared to wait at least another few days for my bike. - But Jesse put in a TON of extra time and effort to make sure my bike still got out the door on time. - When I picked it up, he explained all the little tweaks he had done (like packing the grease more than usual and leaving a little extra brake hose) to account for my riding style and make maintenance easier in the future. The bottom line is that a lot of shops would have just done the scheduled maintenance and left it at that. But they really put in the effort to make sure nothing was missed and communicated the situation at every step of the way. If you have a really nice bike and want to be confident that it's well taken care of, I would take it here. read more

I've been coming to the guys at Rhythm Bikes for years, it's about darn time I left them a review! Ian, Jesse, and the rest of the Rhythm Bikes team represent an incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, professional local bike shop. When my mountain bike seemed FUBAR after a weekend of barreling down singletrack in Plumas National Forest, they fixed her right up and upgraded her brakes. This past summer, they hooked my husband up with a super sick new dual-suspension mountain bike so that he could join me on the trails. Most recently, my beloved Trek road bike needed a tune-up. At 4'9" tall, my bike is teeny tiny and needed a custom wheel build. Jesse did a ton of research, put together my new wheel system, and now riding my 17-year-old bike feels like I'm riding on clouds, smooth as silk. I can't recommend these guys enough! read more

I love this shop - I've brought my gravel bike here a few times when it has issues that I can't or don't feel like dealing with. They always take time in the shop to diagnose and quick fix if they can - otherwise they'll give an honest assessment/estimate and turn it around quickly. My current MTB has been running strong for about 10 years and I'm ashamed to say, I have not given it the proper TLC. I think I've only lightly wiped off mud once and never took it in for service. Oops! Although still in great condition, it is time for an upgrade. I called Rhythm Bikes to see if they had a size Small hardtail available. With only one left, I gave them my name and came in 30 min later to check it out. Keep in mind, size S bikes were hard to find for some reason so I had to jump on this quick. I arrived and Jose was very helpful. Apparently my current bike was a tad too small for my stature but I was so used to it that it never occurred to me! Jose assessed my size, gave me great tips, and most importantly, made me feel comfortable and confident with my decision. I am a proud owner of a Marlin 6, whoot! If I could give more than 5 stars to Rhythm Bikes, I definitely would! I had brought in 2 bikes that haven't been used in a while, and wanted to get them tuned up, and replace tires, tubes, etc. as needed, because we were going to take them on a weekend bike trip. First of all, the staff was so helpful and personable, in helping you understand what they would recommend to get serviced on the bikes, so you can make the best decision for your needs. The technician who worked on both bikes was Jessie- one of the most knowledgeable individuals that really know their stuff. Not only did Rhythm Bikes have the bikes ready for me as promised, when I went to pick them up, Jessie went above and beyond in helping me adjust my new Thule hitch mounted bike rack (which had purchased elsewhere, but apparently it had been installed incorrectly). He then securely fitted my bikes onto the bike rack and "voila"I was ready to go! I highly recommend Rhythm Bikes for any and all of your cycling needs! I moved back to Oakland recently, unpacked & put my old (1992) Trek 5200 back together, and thought Rhythm Bikes was my best choice for a tune up & safety check. Note: this is a relatively small shop, so service & repair work appointments (other than walk-in flat repairs) will take a while during the pandemic - I made my August 19 appointment back on July 16! With that said, I couldn't be happier with the service. Nate greeted me, took my bike into the shop for a quick look, came back outside to discuss what I'd like, then let me know it might take a few days. The next day, Nate called me back and suggested that I get some new tires because mine had dry rot & suggested new Continental Gators (which I think I'm going to like!) He called back a few hours later to let me know my bike was ready. When I picked it up, he let me know my drivetrain (chainrings, cogs, chain) had been cleaned & lubed & were very worn but couldn't easily be replaced because my components (or anything similar) aren't made anymore. He suggested cleaning & lubing my chain frequently. Similarly, I asked about replacing my fork & quill stem with a newer/better AheadSet. He explained the difficulty/impossibility of doing that, which I'd heard before, though nis explanation made sense - he knew that Trek only used my size (1") stem for a few years, and it's a non-standard size now. Because of the difficulty in replacing/upgrading components, he suggested thinking about getting a new bike eventually. If I'm sentimental & choose to replace my drivetrain, which would involve rebuilding my rear wheel too, I'll bring it back to Rhythm Bikes to do the work! read more

Me and my hubby visited a bike shop in SF before going to Rhythm Bikes. The bike shop in SF said we could only "see" the bikes in the window display outside of their store. They did not let anyone in their store to try the bikes out. So when we went to Rhythm Bikes, we were surprised. We got to go inside the store (masks on, of course, due to Covid-19) and the owner, Chad personally measured us and let us try the bikes in the parking lot. We got way better service here in Rhythm Bikes than that bike shop in SF. We highly recommend this bike shop and will be coming back for years to come. They have the most gorgeous mountain bikes near Oakland as far as I can tell. I have had a great time talking with all of the guys that work there. They have always been helpful. They went above and beyond to upgrade the fork on my Diamondback from an older shock to a Pike RC. It looks lovely now and they spent a ton of time with me helping me find the right components. Great place to purchase a bicycle in the Montclair area of Oakland. I was looking for a Hybrid and I had done my homework on purchasing a Trek bicycle. I knew this bicycle featured a new frame design with a carbon frame. This bicycle fit my budget, there were other models such as Marin and Felt but I liked this bicycle. Sales Associate Matthew provided sizing for a frame size that would fit me for my application of pseudo cross-training and commuting to BART. He also had some recommendations on helmet, shoes, bike rack and pedals. You have to cover all bases and he knew his bike accessories. I highly recommend this bicycle store and Matthew if you are deciding on making a purchase. Kudos for the friendly and knowledgeable staff. I woke up to find that the rear tubeless tire on my mountain bike was flat and likely needed a repair outside of my skill set. I wanted to get it fixed quickly and after a search of local bike shops, I called up Rhythm Bikes to see if they'd be able to fix it. I was told I could come right over and they'd have a look! Chad helped me during my visit and was friendly and knowledgeable without being condescending. I ended up needing a whole new tire, and he helped me get to know what options were best for my riding style. He was able to put the new tire on right then--I was in and out in probably 30 minutes. I've been a Rhythm Bikes customer for many years as you can see below. I've bought 3 adult bikes, 6 kids bikes, and countless equipment (probably 8+ helmets, shoes, bars, wheels), upgrades, apparel pieces over the years. As soon as the pandemic hit and for the past year; they have been very dismissive. Scheduling tune ups months out; when I see many other first time customers just walking up and getting immediate service. When I point out to the person on the phone how loyal I've been as a customer; the response I got was "we have many repeat customers". Alrighty then! Finally! A great bike shop in Montclair. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, patient, and don't remotely go in for the hard sell. I took my fancy race bike in to have the front derailleur adjusted and a new chain installed. It was ready the next day and the price was more than reasonable. When I finally got out for a ride I realized Drew (the mechanic) had gone above and beyond. The brakes and rear derailleur were also operating more precisely. That's awesome service that will have me going back again. So, I did. Just had an XD hub shell swapped out for Shimano. That went quickly (while I walked to Peet's and back) but Drew ran into a hiccup as there was something binding in the hub. He asked politely if I could leave it for a day so he could figure it out. Of course! He called me 2 hours later to let me know he'd figured it out. Total charge? 15 bucks. Awesome. Please frequent this shop so they stick around. read more
