Literally took a 1-2 minute phone call to place my new bike order via phone. They verified my voucher number, confirmed my preferred bike choice, and informed me of the price and the anticipated pickup date. The overall process worked SO well and was SO efficient, that I honestly thought it was a scam, but I was pleasantly surprised when it all actually went according to plan! From date, to price, to customer service, it was all top of the line! They had a full bike shop of mainly XP4s waiting for pick up and this is probably why! This place had the best turn around dates, by far! I ordered the Lectric XP4 and everywhere else was claiming 2-3 month turnarounds for delivery and full assembly and King Kog promised a 2-3 week turnaround, and they actually delivered on time! Their process is so efficient. Everywhere else the process was super clunky and wanted 2-3 emails to process the voucher and here I was able to do it efficiently on the phone, all in one go. Can't recommend this shop enough!

Pains my heart to give any 1 star review for small businesses…read more But I ordered a Veloric folding bike on 3/17 so I can reduce use of my car. Especially with gas prices. I also live in Walnut Creek and decided to go with a more "local" (used to live in Alameda) shop. Originally I was going to go for an Letric bike, but got convinced to go for the Veloric. So Vivee was nice enough to let me test ride one that was in the shop for service and I decided to buy one, but they didn't have any in stock. She asked if I can use Zelle and I wanted to use card, but she said she would face a 3.5% fee. Ok sure. We also bonded over tennis as well since my brother played and her kids play it and she was a hitting partner, which we found funny. We go over the options on what the bike looks like, what options I wanted and add-ons. I got a date of mid-April, probably more on the early end for me to pick up including assembly and shipping. Veloric would take 3-10 days to ship (from their site for direct to consumer) and then it would take time to assemble. So I presumed, ok, maybe it's quick and coming early. I'll call! I text Vivee on March 20 and she said she would check Monday when she got back. I didn't see a response. So I text back on Monday to check. No response. I call the shop (no response). I text again (no response). It's now 4/7 and yes I called and left a message on the phone and text. So the lack of response + Zelle payment + reviews I didn't read up here = panic. I decided to go and call Veloric to see what's happening. Veloric told me to try to work it out and confirmed there was a fold 1 that was delivered, but they couldn't confirm this was mine. Vivee did eventually answer the phone on 4/9, but said she was waiting on the shipment and said that she ordered a pallet and blamed the tariffs for the delay. So I decide to go in 4/23 when my bike was supposed to be there, but it turns out it wasn't. She told me she was ordering a pallet and she would install my bike first. She also said it was difficult to talk to Veloric's customer service team since there were trade shows. Turns out she lied. I had been in contact with Veloric's customer service team since March because I read some of the reviews and there was a Reddit post on them buying a bike there with a few other horror stories on people getting repairs and either never getting them done and having to pay upfront. Veloric told me they had not gotten an order from Westside Joe's since March 16 and I had come in on March 17 to order my bike. I truly wanted to support a woman owned minority business in my hometown of Alameda. But unfortunately, they are unable to be transparent on ETAs to the point where the manufacturer had to check for me and now I have to dispute with my bank. I've also posted my story to Alameda Peeps, and it looks like there are more horror stories. Moral of the story: It's great to shop local, but please be careful on who you chose to do business with.

So I had to bring it back. He did not charge me for the re-do, but I was still angry that he caused me a safety issue by telling me something broken was repaired. Made suspicious by this interaction, the next time I had an issue a few weeks later (with clunky gear shifts), I took it to Trek Bicycles down the street. Trek told me my brake pads were almost worn out, my gear chain was stretched and close to wearing out, and the rubber (not the tube) was almost worn through on back tire. The audacity of doing a brake repair and not telling me my brake pads were almost worn out!!! Not to mention, not telling me about all those other serious issues with my bike. It is very unprofessional not to mention problems with a bike that is taken to you for repair. The shop is so crowded with half-repaired bikes you cannot physically walk over to the counter. In retrospect, that should've been a warning sign for me. I feel like the sloppy work I received here risked my safety, and I'm pretty angry about it. I usually hate posting negative reviews, especially for small businesses, but this time I'm upset enough that I feel like warning other customers.

I never received the 'order ready for pick up' email'. So later in the day, I called the store and they said that my items are having to come from another store. Why did the website say it would be ready in an hour then? Further, the guy said to check back tomorrow. It's now tomorrow and my items are still not in. Now I'm being told it will probably be a couple more days. Seriously, what gives with their inventory process? It is very clear that their website lies and I would be very concerned about believing it if it says that you can order and have your order ready to be picked up in an hour, or even that day....

Disappointing assembly quality and warranty service…read more I bought a new road bike with Shimano 105 from Alameda Bicycle, but the setup quality was very poor. Right at pickup, the hydraulic brakes felt spongy. The mechanic told me to just ride it out, but after 100 miles of riding, it hadn't improved. During those rides some issues were also revealed: the shifting was rough, the drivetrain was noisy due to poor alignment, and a twisted brake hose was rubbing and scratching the frame. I brought it back under their 90-day guarantee, but the shifting and noise came back worse, and the brakes weren't addressed at all. I eventually spent hours fixing everything myself after purchasing tools and watching countless guides on YouTube. Lots of bubbles came out when I bled the brakes. Now that I properly bled the brakes and adjusted the derailleurs, the bike works great. No thanks to Alameda Bicycle though. Very disappointing build and service for a brand-new purchase.

We talked colors and how I like to ride (commuting, cruising the city) to determine which parts we'd keep and which they'd replace. The bottom bracket cup was lodged in pretty tight. Several bike shops were unable to remove it, but Dave and one of his bike specialists had the tools and the knowledge to remove the Italian parts. They even realigned the back triangle without messing up the fresh paint job. Dave built the wheels with white rims and purple hubs. They replaced the bent bottom bracket and gave me a Rivendell inspired chain guard. Quality work on an 50 year old bike frame. Towne Cycles put Moonlight Legend back on the road where she belongs.

I was always cold even when the heat was "blasting". ATLAS did a thorough and patient analysis of our old system. They decided to double up the ducts to provide more air flow, and they also organized the flow inside the ducts: it worked. Frankly, the final cost was reasonable, considering the benefits I am getting from it. I particularly recommend Nick and Scott who supervised the project: they really looked into the project, then fixed the problem. Plus: the work was clean, and the communication great all along. Recently had a couple…read moremajor services with Jesse and Jake working on my bike over the course of a few weeks, and I came away really impressed. (and the bike rides absolutely amazing now). More details below. For context, I ride ~500+ miles a month on a custom made road frame from no22, which has an unusual stem/routing setup and can be a real pain to work on. One day, the di2 front derailleur stopped working entirely, and I couldn't revive it. A friend had recommended Rhythm so I stopped by, and Jesse immediately recognized the issue as a common problem that we could warranty as soon as I handed over the bike. We scheduled the FD warranty replacement quickly, and also some more service for later since the bike was long overdue for a lot of maintenance. The second major service later was where they really went above and beyond. - There was no headset maintenance scheduled, but they noticed that the headset had come loose way too soon after they last saw the bike, and something wasn't right. - Jake spent a lot of time going back and forth with the frame builder on the headset issue, and got them to ship out some replacement headset parts. - When the maintenance was scheduled, Jake got really sick. Knowing the havoc this wreaks on shop schedules, I was fully prepared to wait at least another few days for my bike. - But Jesse put in a TON of extra time and effort to make sure my bike still got out the door on time. - When I picked it up, he explained all the little tweaks he had done (like packing the grease more than usual and leaving a little extra brake hose) to account for my riding style and make maintenance easier in the future. The bottom line is that a lot of shops would have just done the scheduled maintenance and left it at that. But they really put in the effort to make sure nothing was missed and communicated the situation at every step of the way. If you have a really nice bike and want to be confident that it's well taken care of, I would take it here.

When my mountain bike seemed FUBAR after a weekend of barreling down singletrack in Plumas National Forest, they fixed her right up and upgraded her brakes. This past summer, they hooked my husband up with a super sick new dual-suspension mountain bike so that he could join me on the trails. Most recently, my beloved Trek road bike needed a tune-up. At 4'9" tall, my bike is teeny tiny and needed a custom wheel build. Jesse did a ton of research, put together my new wheel system, and now riding my 17-year-old bike feels like I'm riding on clouds, smooth as silk. I can't recommend these guys enough!

Maybe it would be easier to pay someone to fix my bike for me, but then I would have to keep on doing that every time something goes wrong. At Spokeland, instead of doing repairs for you, they let you do it yourself but give you helpful guidance throughout. I now know much more about fixing my own bike thanks to these awesome people! I've come here to fix a flat, change out a cassette, and tune up my brakes. The volunteers that run Spokeland have been helpful and friendly every time. Sometimes things can take a while cause they're understaffed and don't have many open hours (a few hours Tu/Th evenings and Sunday afternoons). This is fine. They're volunteer-run and can only help so many people at once. Plus the vibes are welcoming, so it's not a bad place to spend a while! In addition to providing knowledge and a workshop space, Spokeland has lotsa parts and used bikes for sale. Think I saw some helmets too. I believe they also offer classes on occasion. Not sure how often these actually happen, but they seem to range from bike basics up to more advanced concepts and look super helpful. The best part of Spokeland is their determination to make bikes accessible for all. If you don't have the money, you can volunteer to pay off your shop time. And if you prefer to use money, it's super affordable. I've been twice, fixed several things on my bike, and only paid $10 total. Not bad for to get moving again and gain bike knowledge that will help me maintain my bike-friendly lifestyle long-term!

Pierre, one of the volunteers, was (more than) nice enough to spend an hour and a half with me going over how to patch a tube, change a tire, replace a chain, etc. It's a perfect place to go if you need a replacement part for your bike and you want a fair price. You can also just spend time there with your bike fixing any problems it may have. They have a suggested donation of $5/hr. Everyone who worked there was really nice and welcoming. Thanks again!!
