I have been loyal to the Wok for years, even with the shut downs by the board of health. Different people running the place over the years. George was awesome. He used to work at the Hunan Gourmet in Milford before my daughter and I moved here. Tonight, I picked up a take out order, and for the first time in 20 plus years, they messed up my order by leaving out the beef teryaki we ordered. I am all the across town on a Thursday night of a long work week, and when I called, the new lady at the desk expected me to give her my card number to write down to credit my account. No way. No apology for the inconvience on the phone. We ate dinner without the teryaki, and I drove back across town for a refund. Again, this new lady at the desk gave no apology, and acted pi**ed that I showed up for my refund and wanted cash because it was a debit card, not a credit card. Wow they have really stepped up their game! We got chicken fingers, crab Rangoons, boneless spareribs, beef lo mein, chicken with cashew nuts and a spicy salmon roll. The lo mein was so fragrant with garlic and had a good amount of beef pieces. The chicken fingers have a thinner batter and almost tasted marinated. The boneless spareribs weren't overly fatty or cooked too much. Chicken with cashew nuts had great flavor and came with lots of nuts. The spicy salmon roll was just ok - I don't prefer "minced" salmon in my sushi rolls though. And the crab rangoons were tiny and not that good. Overall the food tasted great, had lots of flavor and wasn't greasy at all. Prices are really good for the portions you get. I came here and ordered a sashimi lunch and a to go order. The sashimi comes with that that's it, no soup, no salad or other appetizer.I also ordered a to go luncheon special and was surprised I had to order egg rolls and crab rangoons separately (doesn't come with the two appetizers like other places). Bad service #1, went in today ordered a drink played 3 songs to which I could barely hear so I very politely asked to turn it up just a little was a hard no, I went and spoke with the resteraunt manager who told me if you play it should be turned up upon request, I said she's not going to give me a drink because I said something, he said no she can't just hand you your bill until you ask and that in fact I could have another,I indeed again politely asked for another and got an angry nope because she heard that I had something to say sh rounded the corner and was whiny because she got butthurt over me talking about this to Another patron how unprofessional and thats why i was refused service. All you can eat It seems all boofays seem to have one particular item that they do really well and with Empire Wok it's definitely the veggies. Lots of crisp and fresh things that actually seduce you to eat something healthy. The rest of the boofay is decent with the usual Asian American boofay stuff. You get to choose and try a bunch of different things without some employee hovering over you. The staff were around but let people partake in their gluttony without being intrusive. The building is a bit dated and plain but people don't go to boofays for the décor. A nice place to get a whole lot of different food at a very inexpensive price. read more

I am a big fan of the Wind Tiki in Webster for fresh Chinese food and the buffet. However, some of the people I go with are the type who need more than 10 choices on a buffet to be happy. Empire Wok will give you plenty of choices ... unfortunately most of them are frozen and reheated from a bag ... or frozen and fried. You will have double or triple the choices at a good Chinese food buffet ... but nothing here is fresh. Everything is stale and dried out ... or covered in grease and sitting under a heat lamp. Many times, there are only a few scrapes left and they don't refill it. The food doesn't really taste good. You find yourself eating it just to fill up ... not for the taste (even though it is heavily MSG). There is a good variety ... however most of the things are there it seems to take up space such as banana pudding, fried dough balls covered in sugar (dessert) ... and the tiny chunks of dried out chicken. The sauces are all pre-made from a jar unlike other buffets which make them in house. This buffet is for the Man vs. Food type of eater. The atmosphere is also a typical no frills Chinese restaurant. White ceramic tyle floors, blue and pink, lots of mirrors. Definately generic. They offer other choices besides buffet food ... but I can't imagine that food is any different quality than the food on the buffet. The fact that it hasn't been sitting under a heatlamp drying out for an hour or more is probably what would make it taste better. But you can tell the Chinese food that comes from a bag vs. the stuff thats made fresh. This is def. not fresh food. It is cheaper than a lot of other buffets, so I cant complain too much about the quality for under 10 bucks. But I'd rather pay more for fresher. Skip this place unless you really need a lot of choices or like the 'fast food' type of Chinese food. I do understand there are people who like simple, no frills bar food. The food was surprisingly very delicious. Especially the crab rangoon. I had ordered the Alaskan Roll and the Empire Wok Roll and both were good in texture and taste. However the Empire Wok roll was little too mushy on the outside. I don't know if it was just that a waited a little while before eating? The only issue I had was we got there around 9:30 and were seated straight away. When we ordered drinks and were ready to order food we were told they were only ordering for take-out now. Wtf? At the request of my five year old, I stopped here recently for the first time in at least five years for the buffet, and was quickly reminded why I have not returned recently. There is not a huge selection from which to choose from, and that wouldn't bother me so much if it actually looked fresh and didn't taste like it had been reheated a few times and been out for a couple of days. My boyfriend and I will usually go here because it's local and the food is decent. When we go, I usually get sushi and my boyfriend gets the general tso chicken dinner. My MAIN complaint is the sushi takes SO long to come out!!! It has happened to us two times at this point. The first time it happened I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt but when it happened for the second time I was pretty frustrated! My boyfriend will be served (within 15 mins of ordering), and he will have eaten his entire meal and boxed it up before I even get my sushi!!! It is what it is. I stopped in for a couple of beers and some basic take-out on my way home from New London. Beer was ice cold and service was fast and accompanied with a smile. We went to this restaurant for the first time last night. We were seated right away, and were given our menus and we decided what we wanted and waited for at least 25 minutes for our waitress to come over, she was busy talking to people at other tables and never once looked at us. My boyfriend finally went and told the host, a very nice young man, that we were still waiting to order after sitting there for long, he came over and took our order and got us our drinks as well. The food came out pretty quickly except for the boneless spare ribs we ordered which they forgot to bring out til once again my boyfriend went and asked the host. The food was decent, certainly not the worst we have had. Then we agin sat and waited after we had finished eating for our check to brought over. Finally we piled our empty dishes on the end of the table and someone came to collect them and I had to ask for a couple boxes to take our leftovers home in. Still no check after we waited for 15-20 minutes we were finally able to get our waitress to look at us and we could ask for our check which was the first time she looked at us the entire 1 -1/2hours we were there. That's not what this place is for. It's for greasy food in extreme abundance. I'm not trusting the chefs who work at the local dive bar buffet place to make me sushi. There is an incredible sushi place literally behind Empire Wok. They're really dumb to try and compete with Lemongrass and Eastern Pearl when they were the only buffet place around. As said by other reviewers - the buffet isn't great (not awful, but not great). But the menu food - my god!!! Best chinese I've had - ever. Love their crab rangoon, wonton soup, fried rice. Really everything is just incredible! I've been in there seeing some older lady making wontons by hand (not sure if they make everytihng by hand - probably not - but was impressed they make anything right there). The drinks are really tasty (and strong) for a really good price. The decor is nice for a Chinese restaurant. Typical, but better than a 'hole in the wall'. Having moved out of the area a year ago - I can tell you I still drive to Webster from Worcester for takeout every couple of months - it is THAT WORTH IT!!!! Again - don't judge the place on it's buffet because you will miss out on the best Chinese food in central mass if you do :( read more

She memorized all of our meals, and was fantastic throughout. Food was priced as you would expect. Nice atmosphere and clean. Wow. I know my Chinese food. This was some of the best food I have had in years. Beef Teryaki awesome, like old school Manhattan Chinatown. We had S&S chicken, fried rice spot on, and loved the crab rangoons.
