Extremely disappointed with Empire Carpet and their false promises. I was told by the sales rep that the carpet I chose would not snag and would hold up well -- that's why I went with it. To be extra safe, I even purchased the warranty. Less than a year later, the carpet started snagging and looks terrible. When I filed a warranty claim, it was denied, even though I followed all care instructions and the damage was exactly what I was told wouldn't happen. Our project started off great Mike our sales person went above and beyond before the process and during the process. The actual work on our floors came out beautifully. Everything was installed correctly. However, communication could have been better. The first day they came we were unaware that it was going to be a 2 day job. The process for our downstairs included a 72 hours period where we wouldn't have access to our downstairs. Fine they told us mid day and they left at 5. The next day they came they came with 4 people. Two people left mid day and left the other two workers to finish the job. However, our doors no longer fit properly in our downstairs area one door leading to our garage. The two men who left earlier were the ones who had the tools to complete the job. They did not communicate this until right when they were leaving so they needed to come back a third day to fix the doors. We lost a lot of heat through the doors so it would have been nice to have a heads up. However, they did do beautiful work.* Update they came back today and still couldn't fix all the doors. We were looking forward to the carpet change only to be highly disappointed. When seeking Empire to place carpet on our stairs we were under the impression that it would be the full stairs. The balusters should have been removed to give the stairs a full carpet look like what was paid for them to do. When we reached out to them they claimed that is how they do it and it's in the contract. The man (Harry) that came to our home never said that the carpet will look like a runner rather than a full carpet on the stairs where there were balusters. They never tried to work with us to see what could be done. The stairs look horrible. It just looks like carpet is missing. And I have never seen carpeted stairs with exposed wood. read more

Horrific!! The came to our house to put in new flooring in our kitchen. They damaged our water line behind the refrigerator which was leaking right underneath the floor board for 2 days before we noticed water starting to leak from underneath the refrigerator. After all os said and done, the water flooded our basement causing over $8,000 of damage, they refused to send anyone out to help us, called us liars and WE had to pay the homeowners insurance deductible! That was over 3 weeks ago and still no one has come out. We just filed a complaint with the Better Business Beureau. Please stay away! read more

First, try to find a location for Empire. You can't. it's their way of avoiding Google reviews which relies on maps. As shady as it gets. We previously used Empire for our entire second floor - 4 bedrooms and a hallway. We were very happy with the results so we engaged them again for our first floor entry, hall, kitchen, and bath. It went terribly. The overall appearance was nice but: - An exterior door to the garage was left off the hinges on the floor of the garage. As the installers were leaving they said I should "call someone". At 6:30 at night. In the middle of winter. - A closet door would not open because the floor was too high. They said I should cut it down. - There were two spongy areas ("bounce" in the flooring) that was unacceptable. - After cutting down the garage door it wouldn't open fully because a transition was too high - and unsightly. It also had above-grade nail heads because "the subfloor is concrete". We had told the salesman about this and assumed he'd make a note. - The entrance from the garage to the hallway was unsightly. - The toilet was not reattached to the floor but the water was reconnected. When we got the same installers back they fixed most of the problems though it's not perfect. The toilet is the major issue, though. The installer explained (not on the first trip but the second) that the toilet flange was rusted out and had to be replaced. When I attempted to replace the flange I found out the sub-floor was completely rotted and needed to be replaced. However, they still installed the vinyl plank floor on top of the rotted sub-floor instead of notifying me and stopping work. I have to have another contractor come out, pull up the vinyl, replace the rotted sub-floor, and reinstall the vinyl. I don't blame Empire for the damaged condition of the sub-floor but I'm surprised they would just ignore it and install vinyl on top of it. Because they use local contractors, installation results may vary. But the corporate office is the same and if you should happen to get a terrible contractor like we did -- you're out of luck. The first issue came when we tried to use their price match guaruntee. They wouldn't honor it until after several phone conversations with a very rude Kevin Konfirst, who is some sort of inside sales director. Last year we has laminate floor installed in our home. The installers came and the job was not done well. There was bubbling and the seams did not connect well and it was generally shoddy. They came out to try to repair it, but it needed to be replaced. Many calls to Empire Today finally got a new crew to come out and reinstall the entire floor. This was a massive headache in and of itself. After the new floor was installed, we noticed immediately that the seams were bubbling up and that the floor looked terrible. After waiting for over a month for a manager to come and inspect the flooring he did. We didn't hear from him for another month. Call after call finally ended with us being told today that they decided that the floor wasn't defective. This is insane. But they did offer to replace the entire floor again (but not give us a refund). So, there's nothing wrong with it, but we'll come fix it anyway? We just want a refund at this point. Worst experience of this type we've ever had. They sent out an "independent" inspector who was so incompetent we couldn't even get him to come on a day we were home. Scheduling was a nightmare and we never heard from any of them again. Then I complain again and they act like they tried to contact us but we never heard from them. If I could give zero stars I would. So the sales rep came out, I was impressed at how professional and knowledgeable he was. I had already gotten two other prices from different companies. Empire ended up being in the middle so I went with them. I repeatedly told the salesman we are on a slab and the floors are very un level they will need the leveling concrete. He said no problem. Day of install sub contractors come out and as soon as he walks in he tells me he has a lot of work to do. Calls his boss and now they want $2000 more after I've already signed the contracted amount. Excuse me? The problem was that the salesman didn't add the leveling to my price. THEY messed up. So I call the install coordinator Jerry to try and negotiate this price since it was a serious shock and they're the ones who messed up. He is incredibly rude, said the salesman didn't mess up on the price he just didn't add the leveling part to it. What? What kind of excuse is that, he did mess up, and now you're trying to make me pay $2000 MORE than the contract I signed. Plus, it is now over three days passed the allotted cancel time period. Jerry was very rude and tried to argue with me when I said this wasn't good customer service. I still can't believe it. I'm now sitting in the middle of my mess of a house (we did the demo, everything has been prepared for my floors to be done today) waiting to hear back from the cancel department about getting my deposit back. Don't waste your dam time with these people. Also, you can't even leave a review on the actual empire website till the job is complete so I can't warn people on their real website! If there were negative stars, Empire Carpet would get these from me. They were the most rude, disorganized, and unreliable company I have ever worked with. The salesman was very polite and likeable, but the company that actually installs the carpet was absolutely horrible. It took multiple days for this outsourced installer to provide the correct product, and finally the installer showed up without an appointment and I was bullied into accepting their product. I had to take multiple days off to accommodate this sloppy, rude, unreliable installer and Empire did not help me at all. I contracted with Empire thinking they were a reliable company and ended up dealing with Joe Blow out of some schlock warehouse somewhere in CT. It was an expensive nightmare considering all my work time lost. Empire has you sign an electronic contract that is as long and difficult to read as a serious legal document and it is impossible to get out of it. Empire covers itself at every angle. Beware!!! this is a franchise, meaning they hire very skilled marketing people to come to your home and do the quote, THEN, they send local cheap laborers to your house to actually put the carpets and floors in. The laborers did a shit job and did not speak english well enough to communicate my concerns. The job took 3 days instead of 4-6 hours. I would NEVER hire Empire again. It was also way more expensive then a local carpet/flooring place. I paid with a check and the subcontractor ran it as 3 separate charges on an ACH transfer which included a 20 dollar charge on each transfer (60 dollar charge that I did jot authorize). salesman was decent, but the people who installed my floor, as usual, did not speak much English. With previous installations (I've used them four times now), they at least sent one person who spoke English, but this time communication was a big challenge. I was supposed to have plywood installed underneath the area by my sink, and the head installer practically refused to do it telling me I didn't need it. I'd already paid for it and insisted it must be done. This entire area in my kitchen is now buckling and bending because it was either done incorrectly or not done at all. Other areas of the kitchen are snagging on our socks and cutting our feet as well. Their customer service absolutely sucks. I spent five months trying to get someone to come out and fix this area in front of my kitchen, and they sent multiple people out here to examine it with a host of different devices. They had me taking photo after photo and video after video of the flooring, all of which they deemed unacceptable. They are claiming that there is nothing wrong with the installation or the product, and in the meantime, my floor is buckling and snagging on my socks every time I walk over this shitty laminate flooring. it's an absolute mess. Where to start, where to start? Okay I'll start with the very first thing the sales person said when he saw me: "Well you put on a few pounds, huh??" I'm 8 months pregnant. ::face palm:: Whatever, the guy doesn't have great social skills. I still need a carpet and we're on a time crunch. After comparing the samples to my wall, I narrow down my selection to four favorites, thank the sales person, and let him know I'll call him when I have a decision. He says, "I am here to make a sale; I'm expecting to leave with a signature." I was so surprised I actually laughed. "Its 6:00pm and I'm pregnant. You need to go so I can eat! And then I'll call you when I've made a decision on a full stomach." We decided on a rug and wanted it bound not tacked. My husband confirmed there would be no extra cost (I had expected an extra cost). When the sales person came, he added a $150 binding fee. Of course. Well, we knocked $50 off and scheduled the delivery for 8/7 in the morning. The sales person also kindly let me know that our order was so small, and their normal order was triple mine, and so I shouldn't expect too much. Awesome. The morning of 8/7 I received an automated phone call that said my delivery window would not be until the afternoon. At 2:00pm, I became concerned that I had heard nothing and called Empire. They assured me that they would be out after 3 and someone would call me to let me know the exact time. At 4:30 I had not received a call, so I called back. Empire let me know they would not be coming out today at all, and that tomorrow was all booked. Can't say I'm surprised, to be honest. So I love my floors but that's all I can say that is nice. My entire house was covered in dirt. Would have been nice to have been warned. When I asked they said if you could just move the little things we will take care of everything else. I did not except the find so much dirt on the second floor. The entire house needed to be cleaned, drapes washed, blankets etc. I was also told the molding did not need to be removed. When the installers arrived they said oh yes but when I questioned how it was going to look after re-install they said perfectly fine. What I was left with is not fine! I shopped around the first time visiting home depot, lowes and some local places and empire offered the best value and fast service. When Home dept was 1000, empire was 750 and the service was much more transparent. Most of the bad reviews aren't from customers on here, its from prospects where the pushy sales person ruined it for empire. Having dealt with one bad salesman, i simply didn't buy and had someone new come and that began my relationship with empire. They're strait forward, and write up a formal contract so if you aren't happy, job isn't completed, or have warranty issues-its in the contract. Looking forward to using them again. read more

I will never use them again. They are dishonest. Sales guy sold us carpetting for two stairways. We asked multiple questions about the entire installation including installation of the stair nose and we were told that they do it all. Once the installers were done, i questioned them about not putting on the stair nose and they said they do not do that! When i called Empire back to inquire, they apologized, opened a ticket and said we will get a call back only to be told that because we only hired them to do the carpet and not the flooring they will not do it!! The lady's name was Tatiana. A month later they called back for a follow up call and i mentioned my displeasure. i received another apology and was told that they do infact install the stair nose piece and that i would get a call back. We did, from the same RUDE Tatiana who claims she is the manager and that there is NO ONE above her when i questioned her poor service. She rudely said " Is this the same problem i spoke to you about before"? She said that regardless of what the sales person sold us, the final contract said that they do NOT install the stair nose. i do not want to say that the sales guy acted in poor faith as he was really kind and so was the customer service agent who called me back. ONLY TATIANA keeps saying that they do not install stair noses. EVERYONE knew that it was not their flooring before their carpet installation but ONLY SHE is saying that they will NOT do it. It is a shame that people spend their hard earned money to not get what they ask for and to be told too bad as that is what she pretty much said. she did not care what the previous customer service aganets or the sales guy told us as she is the manager! When Empire's installers came to put in our new carpet, they moved all the furniture out of the rooms (as agreed upon). However, my hallway has hardwood flooring. They left large gauges in my hallway hardwood from moving furniture. First, Empire agreed to have their installer come out and fix it or said I could obtain two quotes from licensed professionals to have the gauges in the hardwood fixed. I thought it would be easier to have the installer come and fix it. The installer came, but refused to fix it saying he did not cause the damage. Since the installer did not fix it, when I spoke to Empire, I said I wanted obtain the two quotes and we could go from there. Instead, Empire refused, claimed they had no knowledge about telling me I could obtain outside quotes, nor would they send a different installer who could fix it hardwood flooring. We had 3 rooms of carpeting installed in 2018. 2 of the 3 rooms had bulking carpet within 2 years of install, which is not covered by their 1 year install warrantee. Today, all 3 rooms have bulking and one room that was installed, that meets hardwood floor, the carpet tearing up along the seam against the hardwood. The 2 rooms that had issues first look really bad today so we called in recently to ask what can be done. For $360 (estimate), we can have someone come out and restretch the carpet. No furniture disassembly is included, but they will move things. So beds need to come apart before they arrive. I told them I'm 34 weeks pregnant and they said ok the quote is good for 30 days. I said that is obviously not enough time for me to be 'unpregnant' and take apart 3 beds. They had nothing to offer after that. This is the last time we will work with this company. I can't begin to tell you how disgusted I am with Empire. My landlord made arrangements to have new carpeting installed in our living room. I agreed to have installers come in on July 25. As it got later on the date of the installation, I had an issue come up which caused me to reschedule for the following day. Shortly after 2:30 on the reschedule date, I got a voicemail from Empire stating that the installers had been trying to call me, but I wouldn't answer my phone. This is a lie! Not only did no one call me, but it turns out that the only customers they call ahead of time are commercial customers! When I called Empire to see what was going on, I was told that the installers we're on their way to the next job and would not be coming to put in our rug on this day. Thursday was supposedly all booked up, so we agreed on Friday, July 28. On July 28, the installers showed up around 3:45 PM. They came in, ripped out the old carpet and padding, and got ready to install our brand new carpet. As they were unrolling the carpet, one of the installers noticed a series of holes down the center of the rug. In addition, one of the corners was bunched up and frayed as if it had gotten caught on something. So that rug was not going into my apartment! After a lot of back and forth between Empire and my landlord, it was decided that someone would come on July 29 with a new carpet. On July 29, another crew of installers arrived, but unfortunately the carpet they brought with them also had holes. By this time we are totally frustrated. My landlord called Empire AGAIN and after after quite a bit of haggling he was told someone would be out Monday July 31 with another carpet. We we're all assured that the carpet would be inspected before it was put on the truck. This morning, July 31, a third crew of installers arrived. Guess what? That's right, MORE HOLES!!! So much for promising to inspect it before it was sent to our place. My husband took time off from work to make sure this got done, too. So the rug got put in, with a "promise" that it would be replaced by Empire at another time. At this point, we have lost all faith in their ability to satisfy their customers. read more

He would have happily walked away selling us in his initial quote that was 3x higher if I didn't have other quotes. Sales Rep. came by on a Wednesday and we scheduled the install for Saturday morning and were told that we would receive a call before 10 am to tell us the exact time. 10:30 we started calling the Sales Rep, it took him almost an hour to call us back, During this time I called the 800# to speak to someone about the install and called the North Haven facility. No answer. The Sales Rep kept jerking us along till 1:30 PM when he told us "the truck broke down." The following week we found out that the Sales Rep lied and that he never put the order in. The following Saturday our carpeting was delivered by 3 Mexicans who did not speak a word of English. 1/2 hour into the install, the first installer comes up stairs and signaled to us that he had to use our bathroom, after he went back downstairs the second one came upstairs to use the bathroom, after he went back downstairs then the third came up to use the bathroom.
