North 101 Rest Stop in Trinidad…read more We were passing through the seaside city of Trinidad in Humboldt County. From Eureka we were on our way to Crescent City. The rest stop is in a woodsy redwood forest area on the Redwood Highway. Nice and clean facilities with amenities including drinking water. It almost looks like a camping ground. I'm not sure if you can camp here but it would be cool if you can. They have a picnic area onsite with chairs, picnic tables and bear proof trash bins. Eight hour parking allowed. The rest stop is on the side of U.S. 101 Northbound... beautiful and quiet spot for a rest area. I wanted to explore a little bit more and follow the paved trail but we had a schedule to keep at the Battery Point Lighthouse in Crescent City which is only accessible at low tide. The rest stop is located 0.9 miles South of Patricks Point, CA on US Route 101 with Northbound access. Review #2522

It was the scariest place…read moreI have ever slept, even with my pitbull sleeping on the floor next to me and a tazer on the bedside table. We arrived late at night due to some travel issues earlier in the evening and booked the last available room for $265/night. It was the only place we could find to sleep with our dog (other than our car) for at least 100 miles. Being dog-friendly, relatively quiet, and safer than sleeping in our car are about the only positive things I can say about it. The bar soap in the bathroom had obviously been used and resealed because there was a hair stuck to the bar. The lights in the parking lot, which I'm pretty sure were installed because of a theft problem given the numerous signs to lock your car, were so bright they kept the room illuminated even with all the curtains closed. The window had extra locks on it, which were certainly necessary considering the scrapes on the frame from what seemed to be previous break-in attempts. I also found several human hairs in the made beds, which makes me question how often the linens are actually changed. I've stayed in Motel 6s that were just fine, but if I ever have to stay in this one again it will be too soon.

The room was updated, clean and perfectly provisioned with soap, lotions, body wash, shampoo and conditioner, as well as a Keurig, supplied with coffee, tea and sweetener options. I ran late and could not take the time to enjoy breakfast, but the coffee machines made a delicious cup and I very much appreciated the insulated carafe of cream.

We didn't have a chance to use these but they were available. The parking lot has a brick half wall with a metal fence around the building. It was fine for one night but I don't know if I would choose the same type room if staying longer. The hotel has some history behind it and can be a little creepy if you decide to walk around at night by yourself. Our room was #16, located on the second floor. The room was a decent size with a sitting area with two chairs and a settee and a small armoire to hang your clothes. The bathroom was small with a walk in shower but the shower pressure was good and the water was warm. No air conditioning but there was an industrial oscillating fan in the room. Unfortunately, I didn't find the bed too comfortable and the headboard creaked a lot but it was ok for just one night. Taylor at the front desk when we checked in was very helpful and informative. We left early, around 8am and they had a complimentary breakfast available for guests consisting of bagels, sweet pastries, fruit, Tillamook cheese and sliced tomatoes and cucumbers which I presume are for the bagels. Cute spread!

This is a very historical property in old town Eureka near the marina. The building itself is very…read moreinteresting and beautiful inside, but felt a bit confusing. It is dark inside and smells "old". Our room was nicely decorated in old Victorian. It was overlooking the corner of 2nd & C right over the Irish pub. Everything was clean and nice inside. Bathroom was small but well stocked with supplies. The issue is more with the area. We took a walk after we arrived through the marina and old town area and concluded that we didn't feel terribly safe. We decided to stay in after dark. There were plenty of homeless and very "sketchy" people walking around talking loudly to themselves, etc. Know the rooms have no air conditioning so the hosts opened a couple of windows facing C street, which we left open all night, hoping that street wouldn't be terribly noisy. Fortunately, the Irish pub below us closes around 9:00, and the Mexican restaurant across the street was the same. By 9:30 or so the street was very quiet with only the occasional car and lone, loud motorcycle around midnight. Also there is no TV in the room, so bring your own entertainment! The WiFi didn't work either. We couldn't find the WiFi the hosts provided on check in. Overall, this area of town is trying to revive and the hosts are trying to bring back this hotel. Just be aware!

First thing to cover here is that I'm a Hilton loyalist. Regardless of my experience with any…read moresingle Hilton property, I trust the overall brand because I know what to expect. For that reason, you should interpret any criticism I have as not being an issue at other properties. Ok...that said, my new favorite Hilton brand is Home2. Why? Because it has everything I like in a hotel when I travel. First though...a criticism for this property AND Hilton as a whole for not policing it better. During my last five stays, the remote check-in feature on the app did not let me check in and when I tried to check in that way for this property, I received a pop-up telling me it wasn't allowed and that I needed to check in at the front desk. The two people working the front desk denied that the hotel had it set that way, but I'm seeing a trend where the properties are requiring a hard credit card for check in again and not allowing Apple Pay or other variations where a physical card isn't used. They even went so far as to tell me that it was probably like that because my card on file wasn't good...then they promptly asked if I wanted to use my card on file for the stay...which worked perfectly. The bottom line is that Hilton franchises aren't being policed very well by Hilton for this feature, so don't expect to be allowed to remote check-in. Ok...back to what I liked about the property. The rooms were nice and clean...albeit smaller than Hampton rooms of the same type. Each of the rooms we had (we usually have two rooms when we travel) were equipped with a full refrigerator, a microwave, fully functioning sink and a dishwasher. The cabinets had all the dishes we needed too. The pantry was the best I've seen in a hotel of this type. Period. The pool and hot tub were well taken care of and there was also a barbecue section that looked like it was well used by the guests. The only other criticism I have is around parking. They didn't have enough spaces set aside for Diamond members, so parking can be challenging. There were lots of trade people staying there while we stayed and there could not have been less than 20 work vans and trucks - taking up multiple spaces in some cases. That's why I was bummed they didn't have more reserved parking spaces. All in all, it's a nice property and it will be our go-to place when we visit Eureka in the future. If you're heading that way, I'd check them out.

We stayed in one of the regular rooms which I found quite spacious. However, we were on the corner so we had a little extra space. I'm not sure if all the rooms have a fireplace, but ours did which came in handy because it's quite chilly in Eureka. If you're staying for a few days, they have plenty of space in the room to put your clothes. However, the bathroom is very tight. I will say the bed and pillows are very comfortable...I definitely slept very well! The hotel itself is located pretty centrally and easy enough to walk to good restaurants just down the street but if you don't wanna walk, the hotel itself has an amazing restaurant both for breakfast and dinner. I'm honestly not sure about lunch.
