On the trail just off the back of the park

We wanted to stay in Trinidad for our visit to the Redwoods and it seemed this place was going through a makeover based on pictures we had seen. We originally picked a space and paid the site lock fee. The owner called us a few days prior to our arrival and asked if there was a specific reason for our space choice (we just didn't know how busy it would be so we wanted a spot locked in) and had offered to switch us to a better space with their recent rain. Well, she did say it was one of her favorite spaces and now we know why! Space #8! There was a deck, a view of the ocean, the spot was very spacious and had a log fire pit! She did not have to offer this to us, but talk about being thoughtful! It really made our stay amazing! They had cabins on site also, we didn't go inside but they are remodeled & look amazing even from the outside! We went into the store on site & were pleasantly surprised! It is decorated perfectly! It's spacious, very neat, the staff/owners were top-notch friendly! I LOVED that they salvaged the old windows! It really kept the unique feel to the entire space! They offered gifts, necessities like food, hygiene items, dog items, laundry supplies & drinks. There is a small playground on site that kept our kids busy! They had swings, a slide, monkey bars & a fireman's pole! We let them play for well over an hour & would've stayed longer if we let them! They even asked to go back later that night for one last play! We used the newly renovated laundry room which was immaculate! You could either use coins or download the app, they had laundry carts to use and a folding table also. The community showers/bathrooms were also amazing! Very clean & spacious! There is a groomed trail just to the edge of the park that leads down to a creek, it was a quick walk but a very nice touch to our stay! The owners told us about a few of their upcoming projects, all of it sounds amazing! I highly recommend staying here if you are in the area, psh, plan a trip to come here, you won't be disappointed! I know we will be back!

What camp site number would you recommend for a family of five and dog? Also is there space to ride bikes?

We like off season travel. And added bonus is this place is right off of 101 making it super convenient for traveling. Most spots have full hook ups. Some just w/e. They have a cute little u shaped area for pop-up campers. Not all sites are super level. Some are pull thru and some back in. Some spots back up to 101 but we became used to the sparse traffic quite quickly. The tent sites are mostly very private. They are nice. Perhaps the neatest places to stay are the cabins. They look so inviting. Some have full kitchens which works out nicely since this very well stocked grocer, Murphys, is just down the street. It was a surprising find in a town of a little over 300 souls. They have a hot bar too! Nice people abound in this area. The little store onsite is also well stocked. There are toasty bathrooms available and the showers, if needed, are coin operated. Fair warning: if you use starlink, there are a ton of trees! There is a "bark park". We visited all the cities/towns in the area including the absolutely adorable Ferndale! We highly recommend the beach in Trinidad. Just stunning with tons of soft sand. We recommend Emerald Forest Cabins & RV.

Turn in here... I see a beach!…read more On our way to a 4-day road trip at the Oregon Coast we made our first stop at Moonstone Beach. We estimated we'd reach our lodging destination at a certain time but we like to leave room for side trips we stumble upon along the way (like this one). Moonstone Beach is not too far from Clam Beach. We've been to this part of the state before when we went on a tour of the Battery Point Lighthouse in Crescent City. The parking area is not a long walk from the beach -whew- and it was low tide at the time so it was nice. We walked all the way to the north end of the beach to the cave. Few people in November, some walked the beach, many brought their dogs to play and run around. There was some rock climbing going on too. Beautiful beach in Humboldt County! The tide was starting to come in as we were leaving... Moonstone Grill, a restaurant just up the hill you'll see before heading down to the beach, opened at 4:30p daily for dinner. We arrived at the beach at 1:00p so we weren't able to try. Review #3241

I personally love how secluded this beach is that stretches out for miles. This beach is great for walking along the shoreline and/or enjoying a picnic at. In order to get here you will have to drive on a somewhat twisty road for about 6 miles. It is right next to Fern Canyon so I love visiting both at the same time due to the close proximity to one another. There are unique hikes in Fern Canyon due to the fern-covered walls you can walk through. This is such a beautiful area. I have not used the campground and only visited the beach so I can't speak to the campground aspect of this area. It is very peaceful and serene and a place where you can often spot elk.

It requires a day use permit to enter because of the volume of visitors that come here. Mostly because popular Fern Canyon is next to it. Gold Bluffs has a campground with 26 sites. Permits are not required if you have camping reservations. To reach Gold Bluffs Beach, you have to drive on a 6 mile windy dirt road called Davison Rd that you can access near the Elk Meadow picnic area. Trailers are not allowed on Davison Road. Visitors will need to pay the day-use fee, or show their federal pass or CA state park passes at the Gold Bluffs Beach entrance station. You can also hike the 11-mile James Irvine loop trail from Prairie Creek Visitor Center. No permit is required if you are hiking. Gold Bluffs Beach was named after a gold discovery in the 1850's that attracted some interest by miners. If you are going to come here, make sure you check out nearby Fern Canyon. It is a must-see! The 1,200 mile California Coastal Trail runs through Gold Bluffs. After hiking Fern Canyon, I walked over to the coast of Gold Bluff to walk in the water and soak in the sun.

I would recommend bringing your own camp fire wood or getting it from a near by store because the camp fire wood that is sold by the camp host is sometimes too moist to start a fire.

The lagoon has little to no water current and has long areas of shallow water, making it perfect for small children and family fun without needing to be worried about losing a loved one in a traumatic mistake. Eek. The lagoon is gorgeous, just watch out for lightning storms in the winter. Aside from the lagoon and renting kayaks, many people travel to Agate Beach (just a quarter mile walk) to collect, you guessed it Agates. But because of rough surf and currents, it's not safe to take toddlers or people who are candidates for hip replacement surgery. If you include Patrick's Point to this Recreation area, there are 3 awesome camp grounds. You can choose camping under redwood trees, camping in meadows, on the beach, or overlooking the lagoon. Side note: Patrick's Point has day use sites that have unique fire pits and bbq's! Large stone sculptures with grills. The Big Lagoon/Patrick's Point Recreation Area is also 15 minutes away from Trinidad. This city has a great independent grocery store and is resplendent with eateries that have breathtaking views. The area is remote and for that reason not a lot of people hang out here. If it was in SF or LA there be a year's waiting list to get reservations. But I so Far (knock on wood), there's always empty sites.
