Always a surprise. RV parks can be deceiving. Websites can glorify them. But you find out strange things when you stay in them. This one's no exception. MRR park has nice level paved sites. Full hook ups. Bathrooms are relatively clean. This is where it gets weird. I wanted to shower one evening. When I entered the steamy bathhouse I discovered a man partially clothed laying on the floor in the shower-hot water running. I immediately asked if he was okay. He said nothing but closed the shower curtain. I suddenly felt creeped to take my shower. But I did so watching my back. I told the gals in the office what I saw. They did not act surprised as though it was a common occurrence. What the hell is that?? Another thing I noticed about this park; there appeared to be some rather permanent campers lurking throughout the park. Perhaps years. Potted plants, junk piled around their campers, and dog fencing is not an overnight thing. The overall vibe of this place saddened me. read more

Making reservations was easy the folks were nice and the per night price is fair. The bad news is concerning because there is nothing worse than a company advertising a great place with all the amenities but they don't exist. The internet well there is no internet. That's right there is no cable and no internet. Oh wait they say they have the best internet ever. So we try to get internet and there is none. Call the office no answer. Read the full page of rules and regulations and guess what. Wi-fi : " We offer WiFi service , but do not guarantee its availability or security at any time". Came to Eureka to visit relatives. Stayed a the Mad River Rapids RV Park for 8 days. It is actually in Arcata right next to Eureka. Very nice park, safe and easy to get to right off the 101 highway. Full hooks ups, pull thru level pads, grass all around the site. They have a pool and hot tub, Good laundry room, along with a good Mexican Restaurant in walking distance to the park. We will stay here again when we are in the area. Eureka and Arcata are nice, but they both have some bad elements, be aware of the areas you are in. This RV park is safe and in a good safe area. While there we visited the Redwood Nation Park, Trees of Mystery, Avenue of the Giants, town of Ferndale and lots of Ocean hikes. read more

Just overall disappointing. Traffic noise (fire department and highway on ramp), store is only open 9-3 - so not convenent), internet access is dismal at best....I wouldn't recommend it even though it was highly recommended to us. read more

I am so disappointed to write this review. My family and I have been booking sites at this RV campground for the last several years and have had nothing but great experiences. Today, however, we were told that our friends are getting bumped from their planned vacation (planned a year ago) because current individuals that are staying here now would like to stay longer. Mind you, there's no spaces available - it's a holiday weekend. But yet they get to stay despite no availability and our planned vacation gets screwed. Not a solid way to run your business. So what this tells me is that you can't rely on a reservation with this company, your planned vacation that you invest money in having has the potential to get flushed right down the toilet because they lack the ability to say no to an extension request. We won't be staying here again because we no longer have faith in how this park is managed. read more

This review is long over due, but well deserved. We full timed here a few times. First for a few months mid Winter between our travels around the West. And then another when we decided to settle and live in Humboldt. We stayed there the second time for 4 years. We enjoyed the mix of travelers and full timers. The facilities were nice.... Sometimes the a washer or dryer would go out but management seemed on top of letting us know when things would be replaced. An overall sense of community was held between tenants, staff and travelers. Many travelers were seasonal regulars we enjoyed seeing every year. We enjoyed the environment there. We loved using the hot tub year round and the pool on hotter days in the summer. Very green compared to our desert RV we are at now in Nevada. We definitely miss the green of Mad River. It's a lovely park with lovely people. read more

Disappointed. Mostly long term RV park. We stayed only overnight on way to Oregon coast. The "dog walk" area was approx 10x10 feet, not fenced on side of street. Shower drain was plugged up so water was flooding around my feet - ew..... won't be back. read more

We came on a family vacation with our 7 year old son. We chose this place because it had a pool. The pool is broken and our 7 year old is heartbroken. We asked if we could check out early with a refund so we can go somewhere else with a pool but were told we could not get a refund once we checked in. We weren't advised the pool was broken prior to check in which we don't believe is fair. Oh well, we will make the best of it. read more

Very nice and welcoming park The park grounds is maintained very well and the laundry room was exceptionally clean. Best part of laundry machines was paying with your phone. Didn't have to worry about getting quarters. Wifi gets spotty during evening hours, when every one is on it. Close to Mexican Cantina restaurant. Very good But, it's within minutes to Tony diner 24/7. HUGE menu. Hamburger and shrimp basket were great. read more

We've been staying here since 2011, first as permanent residents and then every time we visited Arcata after moving away. It's a little dated and not fancy, but very clean and comfortable. The management staff have always treated us so nicely and do a great job of keeping track of everything. For those staying long term it like a safe and friendly community. read more

VERY UPSET! Arrive at 7:30 with a reservation and the place closed early due to illness(understandable), but what was not understandable was that my reservation was not in the reservation box and now I had to find a spot when I should not have had to! They advertise 58 cable channels, I get maybe 10. They advertise a Denny's onsite...I see a dumpy greasy spoon place instead. I am royally pissed Ok, so we find out some jerk STOLE our spot last night and left before the place opened. There are so many horrible people in this world who think they deserve something for nothing. The owners were very amenable, say this happens all the time and spotted us one free night. We stayed a couple of nights to explore and visit family. The park was quite. The staff was friendly and accommodating. the RV spaces were big enough so it didn't seem like your neighbor was right on top of you. The power was consistent unlike three other parks we stayed at. There are several good restaurants in the area Samoan Cookhouse was being refurbished so we missed that but discovered Shamus which was a pleasant surprise. Didn't know there was long term parking because we never interacted with the residents. I will definitely be back. read more

What can I say about this place? Don't go avoid unless you like being disappointed and like paying for services that do not exist because of a cheap owner that would rather bilk you of your money versus give you a good experience. The park was old run down and had a fair number of transient residents in the park that makes you want to guard your property so you will have a vehicle with wheels on it when you get back. Not my idea worthy of $65 dollars a night. Services: What services the advertised cable on their website and the park brochure they gave me, well come to find out the owner canceled it and said Covid was the reason, hmm Covid has been good for RV parks the exception to the disease. They are just cheap and greedy let alone falsely advertising when I called them out on it the answer was: " Oops I guess I should take that off the website", duh and maybe off the park brochure you handed me as well. Bathrooms and showers: Well, bring your Chia seeds and sprinkle there's enough filth and dirt all you need is seeds. Dogs: Pit bulls counted 3 one off leash amazing not what is advertised, and I have a small dog not looking to feed pit bulls. Attitude: you could tell I am not the first complaint (they don't care) the difference is I do not put up with crap I flush it. I am publishing this article in hopes of sparing you the grief I have experienced, and I plan on disputing the charges since it is false advertising to say the least and I can back up my experience with the pictures I took of this garbage hole they call a RV Park. Good Sam should be ashamed of giving them a good rating. The Site: Old tarmac not concrete, worn with holes not level forward to back or left to bring right so plenty of blocks to crank up on and steady your rig you will need it. read more

We were just passing through town on our way to Redwood National Park and needed to use the dump station and get some water, so we didn't stay overnight. The dump fee was only $10. The staff was very friendly and offered to help us if needed. They also made recommendations about local activities. The place was clean and appeared to be well maintained. read more

If you're passing through or dropping your child off at Humboldt (awesome school btw), this is the place to stay! Well run, very clean, has a little store, and very close to Arcata (great little town) and Humboldt. Super reasonable prices too! What else could you ask for? read more

Our first night there we had a neighbor who was cussing and yelling on his phone at 4:00a.m, we were concerned about his well being, talked to Carol about it in the morning and we ended up having no more incidents. It was quiet after that, the showers had hot water and water pressure! The spaces are not on top of each other. Met quite a few residents there and they were all very nice and invited them over to visit. We will be back for sure, full hook ups met full hook ups including the black water tanks could be emptied and cleaned at the site. What a nice convenience! It is a good location close to Trinidad and Eureka right off the highway but we didn't hear much noise (other than sirens). Thank you Carol! read more

Terrible, do not let the photos fool you. The grass is not green in fact it is so dry it is explosive. Poorly maintained park. There is a lot of permanent residents that come and go all hours of the night. The office closes at 5;00 and after hour security is non existent. Speed limits are not enforced because no one is around. We had to jump out of the way of a car while we were walking our dogs. The driver obviously a permanent resident gave us a dirty look because he had to slow down. This is a Trailer Park you should avoid if you are looking for a quiet night. Staff is not at all accommodating We requested a one hour late checkout and we were told someone was taking our space at noon. Checkout is noon we departed at 0930. I believe Check in is 3:00. Of you are thinking of staying here you need to seriously rethink. read more

Looks clean and friendly enough on the outside. There is a minimart right there on the grounds, open until 7pm, which is convenient. There is also a laundry open until 9pm. Free Wifi and Cable Hookups. The bathrooms are sticky, the showers are moldy. One would think that kind of a detail would be something better taken care of in a place like this. The pool is kind of wierd, the children of (very rude) people who actually live in the park have taken over the jacuzzi, and the whole pool situation is shared with the Quality Inn behind it. They made a big deal about not letting campers leave towells outside to dry, but the park residents have all kinds of clothing and toys littered around thier spaces. Rates are about $50 a night, 10% off with AAA/Good Sam. There are worse places, I'd stay here again if I had to, but I'd bring a spray bottle of bleach before using the showers. read more

The price was way too expensive for what it is. The WIFI was terrible and they had no cable tv. They are not big rig friendly, we had to park in a 30 amp spot because that was all they have to accommodate us but the price was the same. I wound not recommend it, best to keep driving. read more

This place is really nice! Bathrooms are very clean, showers are big and well maintained. The sites are paved & very level with nice grassy areas. people are friendly. Its close to a lot of great attractions, shopping and restaurants. We have been on the road from NJ for a month now & Mad River Rapids RV park is one of the nicest that we have stayed at so far - only bad thing about it - no fires allowed :o( read more

Great RV Park, long spaces with a lot of space between each RV. Really laid out well. The staff is ultra-friendly and the grounds are well-maintained. The office closes early, but they will leave your reservation at the front for you. There is a pool, hot tub and playground onsite. The Mexican restaurant out front is actually pretty good. We were expecting it to be sort of crappy, but it turned out to be yummy, with good service. We camped here in a motorhome and will definitely be back. read more

The Manager is rude and the Regional Manager is even worse, condescending!! We called looking for long term, told not a problem!! After filling out their "application" that was like applying for a mortgage.. sending in our bank statements, pay stubs, social security cards, drivers licenses, picture of our Golden Retriever and pictures of all 4 sides of our 2022 Brand New 40' Heartland RV.. we are told we are on a waiting list in #6 position... why weren't we told this initially? Hmm.. and apparently being frustrated over the misinformation made us "hostile" and the manager doesn't feel comfortable with us in her park! THE WOMAN WAS RUDE RUDE RUDE!! We then spoke to the Regional Manager and she talked to me like I was a some stupid woman that knows nothing about business.. sorry lady but we are business owners and we know good business... Mad River RV has poor business practices! We are staying at the Ramada next door with my husbands employer for a job in the area.. our room looks right at the park... Not too sure why they were so concerned about a 2022 RV.. some of the trailers parked over there are OLD and they are definitely not the park they like to pretend to be!! So my advice... don't waste your time... move on to Redwoods RV or further down 101 where the people know how to treat their future patrons!! read more

Manager or owner told us we could stay there and even looked at a few pictures of our RV wich is old but it's what we got, once we got there he took a look at it and pretty much said the pictures we had showed where Photoshop cuz that wasn't the RV we showed him, now don't take it wrong it is old but not everyone has $40,000 just laying around to buy a top of the line RV Wich is what he wanted, there where older models too Wich lived there permanently and that didn't matter so why should ours do! Anyhow, I would recommend this place at all! A good RV park for the Eureka area. Just far enough from the 101 freeway so you don't get any freeway noise. Wide spaces are nice. We paid $45 per night after a $5 Good Sam discount. The grounds could use some maintenance and the pool decking needs to be resurfaced. We are here in peak season and the No Vacancy sign was out on Friday and Saturday, so make a reservation. Wifi is too slow to use. I would return if I needed to stay in this area again. read more

Stayed here two nights. Park is spacious and well laid out. Large spaces with plenty of room for our motorhome with slides. Bathrooms were clean and showers very nice and hot. Did not use the pool but told it was heated along with the hot tub and open late. Best part was the price with AAA discount. Although close to freeway it was very quiet. We will be back! read more

This is one of our better experiences on our Northern California / Oregon Coast 3 week trip in August. It is very clean and neat, with good showers and restrooms. Very friendly, helpful staff with recommendations on where to eat (fairly good Mexican restaurant right next door -- not as great as the staff said, but pretty good and certainly convenient. Margaritas good but not great.) Wi-Fi worked great, good hookups, a bit short on trees but give them a few years. . . just out of town from Arcata and not far from Eureka, so it was a good base of operations for a few days. read more

We stayed here for a week in July. It was our second choice as we wanted to stay at the Riverwalk RV Park in Fortuna, but it was booked. Turns out the Mad River park was a pleasant surprise. The place was QUIET and the facilities were nice. Staff was helpful and quickly addressed a small problem with our water spigot. Laundry room was clean, hot tub and pool were just right. We didn't use the restrooms, so no comment on that. I rate this park 4.5 stars, with a half a point taken off because they do not permit campfires. We will definitely stay here again, since it was such a nice surprise. read more

Really like this park. Well groomed and maintained. Big spaces spread apart with flat spots for RVS ,lawn between and large trees. Friendly people with 2 nice laundry rooms. Good price $1.00 and $1.50 !!! I would give baths and showers an ok grade. Easy access to lots of trash cans that r hidden by nice bushes. You r out of town aways so if quiet is what you want perfect. Cable and wifi too. We would definitely stay again!!!! read more

STINKS LIKE DOG PISS. This RV park, like most all in the Eureka-Arcata area is right next to the freeway. Management is downright rude and I heard vulgar language in the store from manager. They treat you as if you are intruding and the manager drives around looking for something that visitors have done that he can gripe to you about. Acts like the Sheriff. Didn't want me putting my carpet on the dead grass. If a tire touches the grass he'll tell you to move it cause you're killing the grass. The dead lawn looked terrible and I saw broken sprinklers that would just put water on the pavement. There were weeds in the pool area that were 3 feet tall. Disgusting place to stay. read more
