I bought a 2008 Honda Civic from them a while back. They even helped me get financing for the car since I couldn't drop the whole amount at that moment. They were knowledgeable and helped me through every step of the way. I felt comfortable and was glad with being able to get the car Inquired for. I did have 2 setbacks though and that is the only reason I didn't give them 5 stars. 1. As soon as the transaction was over and payment was taken and all of the paperwork was signed they handed me the keys and peeled off the big price stickers off of the windshield. Little did I know there was a giant crack in the windshield exactly behind where the sticker was. I was pretty mad but I had signed everything and had already paid so not much I could do at that point. Replacing the windshield cost me around 300 to replace. 2. Bought the car on a Wednesday and took it for a road trip on the weekend. On the way back on Sunday just 4 days later the battery died on me. Was stuck on the road. Got the battery tested and indeed it was bad. Was pretty mad again after buying this car the battery was bad which is something would have known since it was only 4 days later. All in all they helped me and I really wanted to give them 5 stars but because of the bad windshield and battery I feel like they got not one but two over on me. I am writing this review to acknowledge exceptional customer service from Empire Auto in Hayward with Sammy and his supervisor. My husband received orders working for the government and my family of 6 had to pack up in with only a few weeks' notice to head overseas. Part of our process was having to ship our car out of the port of Los Angeles. When preparing to do so, we noticed we did not have our Title for the car, so we applied for a duplicate Title, but it was over the holidays and it was taking too long to arrive. The shipment company made an exception, if we could provide documentation from the company we purchased the vehicle from stating, the car was purchased in full, with no lien, and had no interest in the vehicle. We purchased the vehicle from Empire Auto over 4 years prior, so I gave them a call with my fingers crossed, and I spoke with Sammy and told him the situation. He reported the situation to his supervisor, and they were agreeable to help us out---it was such a HUGE relief. They did not particularly remember us, but we provided the VIN and we still had a copy of the cashier's check we paid with and some other supporting documents, we emailed them over and in less than 1 hour we had the memo that we needed. It was a huge deal to us and we were able to ship our car before the deadline. When we initially purchased our vehicle from Sammy, the experience was great, he was immensely helpful and honest. The car has been in fantastic shape and has served our family well. The customer service Sammy and Empire Auto provided 4 years after we purchased our vehicle was excellent, and I recommend Auto Empire for their product and their customer service without reservation. When a company is willing to help out a family in need without anything in return, it is a true reflection of the integrity of the company and the people working there, and we are so thankful. We received great service here the other day from our salesman, Sam. He was very professional and accommodating. He did not push any sales to us and was informative of policies and cars. He ensured he had the right answers for us before he proceeding to answer our questions. He was also very communicative, especially on the phone when we were interested in a car, which prompted us to drive 50 minutes to see the dealership after seeing an ad online. We ended up leaving with a car after Sam got us a good deal on it. We visited during the weekend, and Sam even accommodated us by offering to order a second key for our car on Monday when the certified car companies are open. Will update when that is fulfilled. My experiences with Empire Auto were very bad. During the sale I was forced into signing GAP insurance. I was told they would not approve financing (through another company) without GAP insurance. That is illegal. (financed GAP insurance will add thousands of dollars to the contract purchase price and you can never be told it is required). But I went ahead with it anyway after reading the fine print I could cancel the insurance within 30 days. So.. I bought the car and waited about 20 days and then I cancelled. It was a hassle, Empire Auto didn't pick up their certified mail so I had to send another letter by regular mail. I went through quite a lot just to cancel and then the amount was finally taken off the loan amount. It was fortunate I saved money from that fiasco because almost immediately I had to repair the air conditioning. Over about two years I have had to put in around $3,000 in repairs. They say cars have been gone over and inspected with oil changes but it isn't true. Just after I bought the car I learned how to check the oil status and it was within 50% of needing an oil change. Finally, I waited about 5 months for my DMV paperwork and I got a ticket for having expired tags (yes, even with the dealer notice in the front window). When I called Empire Auto for it, the guy who answered was like, oh yeah, its here. They never bothered to mail it to me. Go in fully prepared with these guys and check the vehicles thoroughly. read more

Nice friendly guys that will promise you that their cars are perfectly fine. In our case, we test drove the vehicle and could tell that brakes and suspension issues existed. We're certain dealership knew about the problems, but said it was because the car had been sitting. They promised to fix the problems, but assured us their mechanic had run the car through a thorough check. We were shown a clear Carfax, then right at paper signing, they produced another Carfax with an accident showing on it. Fortunately, we able to have a Honda dealer check out the vehicle before signing, and they detected a number of items that made the car unsafe to drive (bad struts, bad brakes, bad alignment that could indicate an accident although the frame check out good). Empire refused to fix the items hiding behind the AS IS clauses in their contract. In any case, PLEASE be sure to do the following if buying from Empire, or any other used car dealer: 1). Check their record on yelp 2). Check their record with BBB 3). Test drive the car under various terrain/roads/hills/speeds, etc. If you can, ride in the back seat while someone else drives. This can help you catch some suspension issues you might not feel from the front seat. 4). Pull your own Carfax. Don't trust the dealerships. 5). Check on it's smog maintenance history. Make sure the last smog check is within 90 days. 6). GET A PRE-SALES inspection from a qualified mechanic. I prefer to take the car to a dealer of the same brand as the vehicle and run it through one of their certification checks. 7). Get any promises to repair/correct in writing BEFORE signing contracts. Afterwards, they dealer has little incentive to comply. We had to walk away from this car, and it cost us $150, but that was well worth it. Be careful out there! read more
