I have had their empanadas twice this past weekend and can't believe I waited soooo long! I can't believe the size and how much filling they pack in. The green sauce is crack to me FR! I absolutely recommend them and find them so fresh tasting! I have ordered the ground beef, ground chicken, shredded chicken and Potatoes. My friend loved the broccoli empanada and she also ordered the coconut Paleta. I reheated them and they came out flawless. Came here to grab a few empanadas for lunch. I was a 15mins drive away and since reviews recommended calling ahead, I made sure I did. Despite this, I still had a bit for the food. So call ahead, wait a bit, then head over. I ordered 2 each of the Beef and Potatoes, Vegetable and Pork Empanadas. They were served with green spicy sauce. Actually, I found the empanada meat to be dry. The pork especially was disappointing. The vegetable one was prob my favorite, it was made with similar content as a vegetable spring roll. Being vegetables, I guess I had no expectations so I wasn't disappointed. The beef and potatoes as well. The meat just appeared dry, same with the pork. I dunno, I mean not sure what others are tasting. The spicy sauce can be spicier, it was a bit meek. I had to use a lot to amend the taste of the empanadas themselves. The corn crust was good. Well we ended up outside because this place is literally a tiny corner with like 2 tables and 3 stools. Food: we got a few of the chicken with corn flour, ham and cheese on regular flour, and sweet plantain and cheese. We weren't too thrilled with the plantains and cheese, something was off. Empanadas Cafe is still one of my favorite Qns spot. It's sad how the menu has condensed tremendously over the past couple of years. In addition, their prices nearly doubled. Even though I didn't get a chance to have my last bacalao, turkey, and tasty whole grain jalapeño empanada, there are still the usual favorites: beef, plantain and cheese, broccoli and cheese, spinach and ricotta, (mmm) Nutella, etc. You can't go wrong with any choices really. All depends on your palate. Any Empanadas with the green and pink sauce, and a can of postobón: perfect picnic meal! Save room for those maracuya y coco helado..! I haven't had any issues but do understand how service can be hit or miss for other. Maybe this simple tip would help: if and when you call, know what you want ahead of time, double your order, and calculate at least an automatic 15-20 mins standard wait time. Believe there is always a line, (rain, shine, blizzard etc). Empanadas Cafe is definitely getting with the times. I believe they made ordering more accessible through placing a text order via what's app, Uber Eats online and even accepts payments via card and PayPal? My goodness. A hole in the wall that turned out to be home to the most delicious empanadas I've ever tasted. If you show up "unannounced," they'll make your selections of dirt-cheap (cash only!) empanadas to-order. They'll be served piping hot, but miraculously, with nary a sign of grease. Jockey to score one of the few stools, or a seat on the pint sized outdoor patio. If you become a regular, or just have your act together next time, you can call ahead. The 8pm closing time precludes them from attracting a bustling late night crowd - instead, you get a mix of friendly locals and families. I tried both the corn flour chicken and potato and the corn flour ground beef and cheese and left a very happy camper for my 4 bucks. Holy wow. Crisp, generous, fresh- really yummy. The decor of this pocket sized cafe is adorable. Sorta want to put it in your pocket or replicate this look in your mental pocket. The skin on the broccoli cheese was different and interesting. But the classic larger empanadas really give you that satisfying mouthfeel and fullness. We are sold by the Maduro mozzarella one- so good. Like a hot steamy creamy dessert that was supposed to be savory but so much better this way.
