I've passed this place many times but TODAY I decided to stop and try it out. Both of the women behind the counter were friendly and one explained to me that these empanadas were "Argentine style" in that they were baked - not fried. And baked with love they were! I opted for the lunch box deal. 3 empanadas and a homemade sauce for a little under ten bucks. Went with the BA Beef, Korean beef and the Poblano chicken. All good choices. They filled me up without that bloated feeling you get from eating a few empanadas from say...On The Border... As I waited for my order to be heated up several regulars came and went with their pick up orders. The owner greeted each one warmly. I'm looking forward to sampling more varieties. After eating said shared box, I wanted another three for myself. I restrained myself. Summer Squash, BBQ Pulled Pork, Bacon and Date with garlic aioli as choice dip. All were equally yummy. Garlic aioli was the perfect pairing for all. If you take a gander online at their menu beforehand, you'll have an idea of the empas available. Would recommend arriving on the earlier side as flavors sell out. We went on the later end of a Saturday night and 5 options I had my eyes set on were already sold out. My daughter says this was the best thing she ever ate! Heard about this place from a friend but hadn't gotten there til now. My daughter and I were walking around and happened upon it & mentioned that it was recommended so we decided to stop in. What a great find! Amazing place to grab lunch when you're studying at the library down the road, or to grab food after a trip to the museum! The girls working this hole-in-the-wall but bright and clean place were so sweet & helpful! These are incredible & I can't wait to try all the new flavors. Incredible twist on a traditional food! The lunch box includes 3 diff flavors & a dipping sauce for just under $10. Love that it comes in a neat cardboard box instead of ugly & less recyclable plastic. Highly recommend. Edited to add: just finished my dulce de leche. Very tasty, but since it's the same size as the savory ones, it gets very sweet quickly. Seriously my favorite Doylestown spot. They know me by name by now! (everyone who works there is so sweet.) I get these for everyone who is new to the area or who I want to show off for. I'm not a vegetarian or a vegan but their vegetarian empanadas are always my favorite. The Mexican Street Corn empanadas with the chipotle sauce are amazing. The Mushroom Medley empanadas with the truffle sauce will make you cry. If you don't know what kind of sauces you might want, the staff is always quick to suggest a pairing. When they have their $20 dozens make sure you get there quick because they will sell out of EVERYTHING. Seriously a gem of a place. 5 stars. Always. The rotating menu 3. The dipping sauces 4. The originality of the shop in its area 5. The decor is also cute and simple hehe I like the fact that once they sell out--"no more crowd pleasing." You have to pay a visit to mama! So get you buns moving if you want a hot seller. For those who love this site solely to complain, the price may seem high at first. From a young culinary student perspective, this woman is beyond smart. If the public really wants something they will pay for it. Her menu is mouth watering and her empanadas are a great size. I always am willing to hand over my bills. Three empanadas always end up fillings me up. So why be mad over something worth it?! With her quality of trained staff members and delicious menus, I don't know why anyone would complain about their prices being a problem. I woke up this morning with a strong taste for empanadas, so I HAD to "Yelp" it. Found this place and despite it being 25 miles away I still willing to make the trip! After bookmarking this spot, I sent it to my husband in hopes that he'd be along for the ride. After discovering that 25 miles meant 58 minutes I quickly decided maybe this wasn't such a good idea after all. Then I kept thinking to myself... Why not? You have the time - just make it road trip! My six year old and I hit the road. When we arrived I had no clue the place would be as cute and quaint as it was, but the young ladies were very friendly and helpful with the menu since it was my first time visiting. We opted for the dozen and the (4) sauces. I didn't have them heat them since my daughter and I had to travel another hour to get them back home, but boy oh boy... I've eaten things I never thought I would - specifically the Bacon & Date empanada. Preeeetty good. The dough is so light and fluffy! So far I've eaten the buffalo chicken, chicken verde, Mediterranean eggplant, bacon & date and the pepperoni. No complaints on any. Can't wait to try the Cocoa Carmelita's we also picked up! I had the pleasure of having empanadas at Empanada Mama's first day at their new location. They are located on Donaldson street right next door to the Zen Den. The empanadas here are baked, not fried. The crust is very flaky and lightly golden brown. I suspect they brush them with egg. The menu changes daily, and they can sell out of flavors. I had a beef empanada, thai chicken empanada and a butternut squash empanada. The Thai chicken was fresh out of the oven, the other two were already recently baked so I just heated them up at home. The minimum order is three, and you get one sauce with it, though frankly I think the empanadas themselves have enough flavor so that a sauce is not necessary. They also sell them by the half dozen and dozen. They also serve house made salads, some dessert, and bottled drinks. Of the three I probably liked the thai chicken the best. The butternut squash was a great taste of fall, though a bit sweet for my taste, (I probably would have added some curry or other spices to make the filling more savory.) The beef empanada was a little bland. I think I was missing the zing of a green olive that I expect in a traditional beef empanada. All in all this is a local gem, and I look forward to supporting this business! read more

This place is very small and a bit hard to find if you don't know where to look. It shares the same back parking lot as Zen Tea Den and its closer to the parking lot, than it is to the street. If you can picture that, it's back there. It's physically lodged right in between parallel State and Oakland Streets at the intersection of Donaldson Street. This is NOT a sit down place. There's enough room for three people to sit at a counter. Make sure you plan for takeout. When I visited, there was over a dozen varieties of empanadas and their flavors change regularly. I ordered the dozen for $35 (came to $37 something with tax) and it was plenty for three adults. They recommend 3/pp. There are options to order much less than this. As I ordered a dozen, I had opportunity to try a bunch of different ones. The Korean beef and other beef one were my favorite. All others were plenty good, none were bad, but also did not stand out to make honor roll. The sweet guava one, in case you're as piqued as I was, was just ok. It tasted mostly like cream cheese and just a little indiscernible sweetness. The sauces were a bit confusing. I wasn't sure which ones to order to pair with my empanadas and the order taker's input didn't make my decision process any easier. I ended up just guess-picking. They were all decent and it was fun to mix and match flavors to see if any paired up super well with any particular empanada. I would like to see a recommended pairing guide to assist guests in narrowing their decision. The empanada texture was very nice. It was flakey and stuck together well. The dough was fully baked. I really actually enjoyed all of the different flavors and the option to never get bored and think this joint is a nice addition to 18901. I appreciate the entrepreneurial spirit behind this venture, but was most struck by the lack of proper process around food handling. It made me really question how well they follow other food safety processes, especially since it seemed like the owner was standing and packing empanadas next to the employees who were switching stations, touching ears without washing hands. I actually debated getting a refund for my empanadas after seeing that. The service was friendly enough especially considering the line out the door in drizzly weather. The order taker was patient with me while I picked twelve without previously seeing the menu. And she did her best to answer my questions. All-in-all ok. We got a sampling of many things on the menu. While most tasted good, the main gripe is that the there is hardly any filling in any of the empanadas, which are 50 - 70 % empty.. We paid nearly $50 for our order and it best it was worth half the price. Our recommendation is reduce the price Or fill them generously in the Hispanic tradition. That way they are a better value. The stand out was there dessert bar which was very very good. Our benchmark is place in nyc with the same name. Their empanadas are busting at the seams with filling and flavor. The downside is that you have to go into New York and pay the whopping tolls which intern does not make them a good value either. I guess it's super hard for the friendly girls here to do their jobs. That's a bummer as we were looking forward to trying the empanada's and the reviews are fantastic. We used the mobile app, which explicitly said the empanada's are picked up warm, unless you specifically say you want them hot. That's fine. I couldn't find the "special instructions" area in which to write this instruction in, so I wrote it in the 'notes' section on the payment page. Not sure that this would be seen, I then called the restaurant and spoke with a friendly girl who told me they'd make sure they were hot when we picked them up. We picked up our order on our way home - over an hour away and with no way to heat them up - and after we started driving away from the restaurant we realized they were...............................room temp. Killer and creative empanadas! Definitely worth the stop if your anywhere near the Doylestown area. They also show up at a ton of local events, like fairs, breweries, etc, so be on the lookout. Being a NY'er I love empanadas and the one in NY with the same name. I looked for one near me and this is the closest, although not connected to the one in NY in any way. I have been meaning to try this place for months even though they are almost an hour away. I finally made it there yesterday and was taken aback by the crowded small establishment. They were very small, but it was ran like a well oiled ship. My daughter and I both ordered a box of 6. The BA beef, sausage and pepper, onion and pineapple had to be our favorites. I can see taking the trip out to this place once a week. The crust was flaky and soft and the fillings were flavorful.
