I really enjoy being able to drive around town on a daily basis and run into my old time favorite Japanese sushi, teriyaki and sushi spots. I had just about every dish here, but my usual order is the tofu noodle soup, curry rice dishes or shrimp tempura bento box combo. I have never walked away with an incorrect order in all the years I've dined in or ordered out from them. Different people will always have different personal approaches with the customers. The atmosphere of this restaurant is very casual. It's Japanese owned and the food is good. I had the unagi (eel) bowl which is a very basic dish with the unagi and sauce over rice. My boyfriend had the tempura bowl. The sauces for both dishes were not too sweet as I noticed that several other Japanese restaurants in the area seem to make their sauces too sweet. It wasn't anything spectacular, but more like a good home cooked meal. The service was normal. We ordered at the counter and sat down as they brought out our food. On top of what I had, they also serve sushi, teriyaki chicken/beef, and noodles. I'll have to go back to try their other dishes before recommending this place, but if you like eel or tempura and are looking for some place quick to eat, this place would satisfy your cravings. read more

Emon is pretty good for a neighborhood restaurant. I lived nearby so I'd go there pretty often. I like that it feels like a family business. It has a cool quality that you don't get from other establishments around it. I usually get the Emon combo and it's huge. The portion is tremendous and it is also really delicious. It's a little expensive for what it is but you can't get too mad at it. The service is good, not great. The atmosphere is okay, I guess. I usually took the food to go. The food is great (I haven't had their sushi, other than the CA rolls, but I like everything else) and in-restaurant customer service is great. And I love that they carry Calpico! But every time I call, I'm always shocked by how unhelpful the person answering is (and it's always the same young woman). It's almost like she's trying to get me not to order anything. Latest example - Their website says hours are 11am-9pm. So I called at 11:11am and here's how it went: Emon: Hi (then long silence) Me: Is this Emon restaurant? Emon: Yah, we don't open till 11:30am Me: Okay, I was just wondering what today's Chef Special was Emon: Meatball Me: Okay. And? Emon: Salad, and stuff. CA rolls...(trails off) Me: Thanks. Your website says you open at 11am Emon: But we changed it to 11:30am Me: Okay, I'm just saying you may want to update your website because it still says 11am Emon: Oka.... I have been coming here since I was a child (almost 30 years old now). Food is always great, service is amazing. I recently discovered this restaurant even though I've lived in Burbank for over 10 years. I decided to stop by for lunch today even though I was originally going to go the the Cheesecake Factory in Glendale. I normally always get the teriyaki tempura combo, but for some reason I just said "chicken teriyaki bento box". When my food arrived the owner apologized since they made my food Togo and not dine in. "No problem" I said, "where's the tempura?" She informed me that I didn't order it, apologized and offered me hot sauce or complimentary miso soup which I declined. I started to think I should have went to the Cheesecake Factory. Then a few minutes later the wonder brought me 2 pieces of shrimp tempura on the house. I will come by sometimes to get lunch during work and I generally get their tempura udon and have tried their short ribs once. Udon is difficult to mess up so I never have a problem with it but their short ribs were a little bit too saucy/salty for my taste. However, the place hits the spot when I have a noodle soup craving and they're definitely not too pricey either. This place is decent for the price you pay, but the wait time can get a little bit long. I have been coming here since the early '80's. Started when I was working at KNBC and it was on everyone's list for lunch. I have since moved away, but try to stop in whenever I can. Recently with my son in college in Eagle Rock, I have had the chance to introduce him to it as well. We went in yesterday for lunch and they have changed the Emon Don (at least the beef)! I was so disappointed, that flavor, the beef especially, the rice and the sprouts. Now they have changed the recipe, added vegetables and far less meet. Why did you change something that has been almost perfect for 30 years? Looks like a money saving trick and the taste is not even close. I'm so sad and dismayed. I won't be stopping by here again. I've been coming here for a good 10 years. A nice family owns and operates this little place in the Vons shopping center. Businesses have come and gone here but Emon has lasted. My main order is their teriyaki chicken bowl or what they call a Teri Don. I order it with the teriyaki sauce on the side since every single place that serves teriyaki drowns whatever they're serving in the sauce. I don't care for that. So I use the sauce for dipping. It's a simple dish: grilled chicken bits (lots of it), rice, and bean sprouts. They always ask if you want the sprouts (I think lots of people don't like the stuff or maybe it's pricey) but I love it. Pile it on. They also have a daily special that's almost always something really yummy and just chock-full of food. It's usually some kind of teri chicken or meatballs or dumplings, sushi of some kind, noodles, sprouts and pickled veggies, rice, and salad. I'll go for this once in awhile. They're kind of a quick, grab and go kind of place so don't expect a giant sushi menu. They just have the basics. But all of it has been fresh and good, in my experience, although this isn't my first choice for strictly sushi. Fast and friendly service, if not always with a smile. I understand that no restaurant wants someone to come in at the last minute, but 30min early is a bit much. Why advertise closing at 9pm when you really close at 8:30pm? Their strengths are fast service, consistency of quality, good portions, and good taste. They're very busy around lunch time. All the tables are taken if you hit the busy hour. This isn't a place to come in large groups. The biggest group should be 4. A lot of customers order for pick up. I see staff members always taking orders on the phone while I eat my Teriyaki Chicken Combo. This might be the smart thing to do since seating is very limited during peak hours. Every once in a while I'm overcome with a teriyaki craving. Having eaten at Emon since I was five, I figured I should indulge this desire and make my 1004th visit something special. Instead of the usual Tofu Don, which is pretty fantastic and one of just a handful of tofu dishes that don't gross me out after a few bites, I splurged and ordered a shrimp Emon Don. Firm, white shrimp, not that clear novelty riff-raff served up in similar strip-mall Japanese joints, mingled with bean sprouts and other veggie miscellany, filling my bowl high above it's brim. Rice drizzled in a thin teriyaki sauce strong with sesame oil creating a more savory foundation than the too-commonly found hyper-sweet tar that typically drenches a rice bowl. The food is always fresh here (or they do a good job of faking it), the soy vinaigrette salad is pretty amazing if you want something light and cheap ($4-5 I believe). Sushi menu is limited but considering the kitchen space, that's understandable, but it's always been delicious and consistent. The only component lacking is the service. It's not bad, it's that just about every time I eat here, I get served by a very curt, older gent who seems disinterested in creating a n environment contrary to the strip mall one you get at first sight. The old staff, mostly women, were always extra pleasant and they seemed to enjoy chatting and making sure you were enjoying your meal...which you were because it's Emon. read more

I've lived in the area for a few years now, and Emon is part of our routine. The staff are always very kind, and definitely recognize their regulars - I know some of the people who work there by name, and even the kitchen staff greets you from behind the counter area. Depending on what you get, you can get a good deal, especially with the combos and the deals of the day. They also sell chopsticks, drinks and snacks for dessert. I am pleased to say this is my first review for an LA/Burbank establishment! After a long day of moving into my apartment, i was famished and needed a stiff drink. However, since it WAS only 1pm...i settled for sushi. Im pretty sure they are in a strip center and dont have a sign. Oh well. The portions are huge. 10 bucks gets you a box full of teriyaki, tempura, and the rest of that good stuff. They also have noodle bowls. The sushi took FOREVER to get. Literally....full on platters were coming out before we got our sushi. Hmm...odd much? Anyway...I got the tuna, which was good. However, it was kind of warm(assuming from the rice?) and had a few of those 'oh shit, im going to get food poisoning from sushi in a strip center' moments. Luckily it didnt happen. The rainbow roll was ok as well. not great. For a cheap lunch or dinner...if you are REALLY desperate, this place is just fine. DOnt expect much though. read more

I've been living next door to the strip mall shopping center where Emon is located since this summer. I haven't tried it, though, til recently. I've been really missing out! I'm a fanatic for spicy tuna and this place serves a really solid plate. The shrimp tempura is also excellent. Pretty good noodles for the area it's in. I've been craving ramen for the past three days and decided that today would be the day that I get some. Since there was no way I'd make it to Japantown and back during my lunch hour I figured I'd search for something closer. Unfortunately, there isn't a big ramen offering in the Valley and the only place I found even remotely close enough for me to get to and back closes from 2:30 to 5:30. I usually eat late so that wasn't going to work out. Finally after watching me search online for a good couple of hours, my coworker turns to me and mentions this place. We found a menu online and decided to give it a try. At this point, I didn't care how authentic the ramen was, I just wanted hot noodles. So we called in an order and I went over there to pick it up and took a peek inside the bag when I got to my car. The ramen container was huge and even bigger was the carton of broth. I got the mixed veggie noodles with beef. Very pleasantly surprised by the assortment of veggies. The noodles looked ok, but at this point I wasn't going to be picky. Anyways, the food was good. Didn't hit the spot but it will do for holding me over. The beef was really fine and insignificant. I wish they had pork slices but that apparently was too much for this joint. But the veggies were good. They had bok choy which I'm always a fan off. The broth was good. It's not exactly authentic ramen, but it was yummy all the same. Ordered the Emon Don. It has their name in it so you think it would be special, right? No, it was not special. It was rice with some stir-fry vegetables (mostly bean sprouts and carrot shavings with some broccoli) and chicken in what I guess was terriaki sauce. If it was, I couldn't tell because it didn't taste like anything. Tasted like "brown". Didn't even taste like soy sauce. Bizarrely, the item had a "Spicy" denotation next to it. Didn't come anywhere near that. The sign outside didn't even have the name of the place. Just said "Japanese food". The food I had tasted as generic as the name. REGRET. I went back here last night to give it another try. This place is conveniently located next to Vons and maybe they deserved a second try. I ordered a chicken teriyaki, and a beef teriyaki with veggie tempura for takeout (18 bucks total). All I have to say is the chicken was FUNKY yet again! I don't know what parts of the chicken they used but probably not the best since it was all chopped up as opposed to large consecutive slices like some restaurants to it. The beef was "shredded" Yoshinoya style, although there was less fat on it this time. My boyfriend literally ate three bites of his order and pushed it away.
