First, let me say over the years we've bought many cakes and desserts from Emersons. We usually go to the Florence location and have never had an issue. This review is specifically for this Dixie Highway location. My mother ordered a cake for a family birthday party from this Emerson's location. The girl who took the order said she was new. Mom ordered chocolate cake with white icing. The cake we received was chocolate with cherry flavor and yellow cream cheese icing. Frankly, the cake was disgusting and inedible. The chocolate cake tasted like it had no sugar but there was a faint cherry taste like they added cherry extract and the cream cheese icing was sour and overpowering with a lot of cream cheese. Out of 8 people, we all tried it and no one liked it or ate it. It's pretty hard to make cake taste bad but this one was awful. My mom called there a few days later and the same girl tried to gaslight her by saying they don't even sell a chocolate cherry cake, or yeah they do sell one but it has cherry filling not extract. Regardless, the cake we received was not what we ordered. The young lady told my mom to contact the manager. My sister contacted the manager by email, no response. She called and spoke to someone today (possibly the same very rude young lady) who basically accused us all of lying and hung up on my sister! We still have the gross cake, which is going in the trash where it belongs. read more

READ THIS preface: i am very easy going. i have been in customer service for years and even on my worst i would have never treated someone how this woman treated me. i called to place an order to pick up a birthday cake- i just asked for "happy birthday X" with a small heart if that was possible to which the woman on the phone said yes and that it would be ready to pick up anytime today. i gave her my CC info over the phone and paid right then. when i arrived, an elderly woman met me and was pretty rude right off the bat, but nothing that would unnerve me. she asked my name but i gave her the name in the cake (because the woman on the phone didn't ask for my name) and she made a snide comment about that for some reason.. when i saw the writing on the chocolate chip cheese cake was bright fire truck red i apologized and let her know that wasn't what i had asked for- clearly a miscommunication because the woman on the phone didnt ask about a color- but i was not expecting red (in my mind i was thinking chocolate bc its a chocolate chips cheesecake right?) no worries, i just politely asked if they could scrape it off and rewrite it (in the most apologetic-not-wanting-to-be-a-burden way) prepared for her to say no.. she scoffed rolled her eyes was visibly angry with me making me feel horrible for even asking! (but after all i am the one paying for it!) when she finally came back with the cheesecake, i was appalled. all they did was smear around the red icing and write over it. i mean, i am not a particular person, i didn't even care the writing on it was ugly, but the red all over a white cheese cake was just- well there was no way i could bring that anywhere! i apologized again but let her know that's just not something i could pay for. i mean it was atrocious- and again im not very particular! (she snatched it away before i got a photo!!) she proceeded to become increasingly angry with me saying would refund me and wanted me to leave.. but i needed a cheesecake. any cheesecake at this point! she wouldn't even let me purchase a different cheesecake! she just wanted me to leave, after SHE was the person to deliver THE WORST customer service i've experienced anywhere in my life. she then said i took the receipt (that i was never given) and was angry when i couldn't produce said receipt from thin air.. i managed to walk out of there with a plain cheesecake, no writing, no chocolate chips, no receipt. and trembling from the encounter. when i was walking out she yelled at me and called me rude. to which i responded "ma'am i am not being rude, but i hope your day gets better" and left the scene. (another worker and customer who were in there just stared with their jaws dropped) i will NEVER be going back there and i am letting all of my friends and family know how atrocious this was. the woman refused to produce her name and when i asked if she was the owner she said she was not. i'm sorry, but emerson's you need to fire this woman. i don't care if she's your great grandma, or just an elderly person you wanted to give a job but she is a horrible person to have at the front of your store. has left a horrible taste in my mouth. let's hope this cheesecake can sweeten it up - because THAT would be the icing on the cake- if it's not even good! fingers crossed! customer service: F (for reasons above) food: TBD ambiance: smells moldy when you walk in, and everything comes in styrofoam and clear plastic making even an okay looking cake look cheaper than walmart. We made specific request for 2 different cakes on different days and they were both what we said we didn't want the tickets said what we ordered and they were the exact opposite our family has been coming here since they first opened but the service has gone down hill on of the cakes was supposed to say 40 but it said yo and then we said no rainbow on a different cake and it was rainbow balloons read more

Emersons bakery has a great selection and a great staff that made me feel welcome and happy to shop here. The prices are great, where else can you get 6 huge cookies for $1.50? I got oatmeal raisen and peanut butter and both were good. The muffins are also great, as are the eclaires and my favorite the fried danish. The donuts were my least favorite, they were already a little stale. You can never go wrong with anything with pecans or any kind of nuts, if I didn't live 2 hours away, I'd be back! read more

I was disappointed. I'd go in there years ago and get sticky buns from my mother and they were delicious. You could actually see pecans on them. You go in there now and get them you basically have to put your own pecans on them. the cinnamon twist I had one that hardly had any cinnamon on it at all. read more

I was tempted to buy a bagel after seeing a picture on yelp. Do it! They're great. The veggie cream cheese seemed to be house made. Definitely worth stopping in. Was nice to see a dad and his two sons (3 and younger) sharing a doughnut & milk on a Saturday morning. It's a good place to start traditions. read more

Wonderful bakery with terrific product. We've been going to this bakery for more than 20 years and we've never been disappointed. We've tried nearly all of their products in that time, from cookies, donuts, to jelly rolls, all terrific. We've been walk-in customers and placed special orders, each year carrying on a very special holiday tradition with their delicious Devonshire pastries. They do sometimes sell out of favorites, as all bakeries do when they make a great product, so if you're looking for something in high demand, get there early or call ahead to order your favorites! We love this place, especially on Fridays and Saturdays when they have the fried cheese danish(I think that's what they're called). But, no matter what we get, we love. And, the staff is always very friendly and helpful. Am not sure why Yelp has $$$$ for their prices when Emerson's really has great prices! read more

Emerson's makes the best pineapple upside down cake that I have ever had. It has become my annual birthday cake. So delish!

Hands down one of the best bakeries I've been too. The only time I was ever disappointed was when they used to close early. I love the little Easter cakes they make too! They're not too pricey and the baked goods are always sublime. read more

This bakery has a few great products, but they're terribly inconsistent as to whether or not they stock these products. So there's no telling when you go in if you're going to walk out empty-handed or not. It's a shame to run a business like that. You go to Home Depot and expect to find the nail you need, and a bakery or any other business that's in a retail location should be no different. Sometimes they're out of chocolate eclairs, sometimes they failed to produce raisin cinnamon square donuts when they're supposed to. Some products seem to go on hiatus for months at a time. I too have going on hiatus from purchasing from them for months at a time because they failed to produce product I wanted. It's their loss. Cheers for the product, boos for the effort. read more

It seems that they don't care about having a quality product. Unfortunately, for the people who are paying for "fresh" donuts, they are crusty and stale most times. I have visited this bakery at various times of the day for a year with the hopeful occasion that I could get a fresh donut, since my co-worker and I really love the maple top when it's fresh. This is a huge disappointment since I cannot get that quality product but 1 out of 10 trips and it's usually too late by the time I get home or work with it. I'm now going out of my way to the Florence Bakery, they are always fresh! read more

Their baked goods may be ok but their birthday cake designer must be terrible! We wanted a simple block M and it was terrible. My 2nd grader could have done it. We had them re do it and it was slightly better but still not good. They refused to give us our money back. Absolutely terrible!!! I wish I could attach pictures! read more
