I first started training with Jake in an effort to improve my squat form. During the months prior, I was struggling to incorporate back squats into my program because my legs had gotten strong enough to lift weights that were heavy enough to cause back pain (due to my poor form). Through weeks of specialized training, I was able to get my form to a point where it was essentially perfect, and I haven't had any back pain from squats since we started working together. In addition to back squats, Jake significantly improved my form on several other complex movements such as deadlifts, bench press, weighted pull-ups, etc. His thorough understanding of biomechanics is made clear through drills designed to train certain "cues" on compound movements. Beyond his nuanced coaching in the gym, Jake also puts an incredible amount of thought into programming and nutrition. Every workout is carefully structured with a clear purpose, balancing exercise selection, volume, intensity, and progression based on your particular goals and capacity to recover. Despite the level of detail, he consistently updates the program as needed (which is typically every one to two weeks) to reflect progress and recovery. His meal coaching is equally detailed, providing practical guidance that is easy to follow while still being tailored to whatever goals you may set out to achieve. For me, the focus was on building muscle, but I was able to cut body weight closer to the summer. Rather than offering generic advice (e.g., a calorie deficit or surplus), he takes the time to explain the reasoning behind specific recommendations, making it much easier to stay consistent and to understand how training and nutrition work together to produce long-term results. Overall, Jake has been one of the most knowledgeable, attentive, and effective coaches I've worked with.
