Came here on sun night and had a bunch of tapas. In loved the oysters, scallops, vegetarian tarine, garlic shrimp, fish tacos, lamb meatballs and finished with a lobster mac n cheese. As close to a Boston swanky restaurant as you'll find on Cape. Great layout and decor, amazing food and excellent service with great music! My friend and I had been complaining about how unsophisticated so many Cape restaurants are when we went to Embargo. We sat in one of their half-moon booths with a great view for people watching. Our waitress was very friendly from the offset and between the busboy clearing emptry glasses and plates as soon as we finished them and the manager who came by (twice) to check on us, we felt very pampered. The food is absolutely incredible. We went with a seafood theme and had the salmon bruchetta, scallops, escargo, and one other dish. Everything was so tasty and the scallops were truly out of this world. During dinner we enjoyed a live jazz band, which was fantastic. Then the dj came in and played excellent music as the restaurant turned into a nightclub. The only complaint we had was that, as the night went on, the music went from well-known top forty dance music to more techno/trance types of songs that we'd never heard before. But all in all, good place to go for young adults on Cape looking for an air of sophistication. read more

This is the only second 5 star I have ever given. Embargo was excellent. Service, staff, food, drinks. We split a pitcher of red sangria between 3 people. We got 8 medium to large drinks. Well worth it for $30, and very tasty as well. Food: Braised Short Ribs (Phenomenal- if I were a vegetarian I would still eat this), Barbecue Chicken Pizza (good), Thai Chicken Spring Rolls (good), Angry Mikes Chicken Legs (good), and Pork Carnitas (excellent- spicy, great flavor) This place is great, our server was super nice and accommodating. read more

the place was really nice inside, but what made this one of the best dinners was Darren the magician. He put on a show and really killed it. I have never seen such a good magician live. This place was awesome! By far, one of the best place to eat on the Cape! Our server, Johnny, was new, but he was very knowledgeable about the menu. My husband and I had our first raw oysters and he showed us how to eat them in true New England style. Johnny recommended a few things, that were all very good, but I highly recommend the Lobster Mac and Cheese! They also have a great martini selection. It turns into more of a dance club after 10:00 p.m. so if you just want dinner, get hter early. read more

Really fantastic experience , 4.5/5. The bad? Scallops tidbit overdone, prawns in oil needed sea salt or something extra to be special, barnstabasil cocktail really weak. The good? Everything else. Mussles were perfect, volcano roll fantastic. Food arrived almost instantly, but was also near-perfectly to perfectly cooked - this on a jam packed sat night. Jazz cover band added nice ambiance. Martinis all very good. Attentitive service. I'd watch for other reviews, and try eliminate those who came expecting a nice meal v.s. looking for a nightclub, possibly already a little far along. I had drinks at Embargo on Friday and was so enticed by the food menu that I came back for dinner with friends the following night. The drinks menu is very extensive - my choice was the freshly squeezed watermelon martini which was very strong and delicious. The food was excellent - the 4 of us got 8 tapas and 1 dessert to share an that was plenty of food. You are probably reading this and wondering why I didn't rate the place at 5 stars, right? That's because I was less than impressed with the services - the waitress was not attentive and I would even say a bit rude. I hope that we were just unlucky. I will definitely go back and hope for better service next time! read more

I visited Embargo after a day of shopping on Main St., Hyannis. I had seen the reviews on yelp and knew this place was for me. My friend and I took advantage of the 1/2 price tapas from 4:30-6. I was surprised to see there were no drink specials during happy hour, but my friendly bartender revealed that it is illegal to discount any alcohol in Massachusetts. The price of the tapas and oysters made up for the $12 martinis, in my opinion. Plus, they are at least 10 oz. glasses, so you really get two drinks in one. I had the raspberry with the infused vodka, and my friend had a pineapple that was topped with champagne. Both were delicious and did the trick. We tried the cheese plate which had manchego, goat, and brie topped with some sort of fruit reduction and a guava compote that reminded me of fruit leather. All were very tasty. We then shared the fresh tempura cod...also delicious. I finished with six oysters that were some of the best I have ever had. So, the food passes the test. But, the service was even better. I can't comment on the table service as we sat at the bar, but the bartenders were fabulous. Sometimes I find female bartenders to be rude or catty to other women, but these girls were so friendly and helpful. They were so attentive, gave us tips about the Cape, and really made the experience for me. Even though it is a half an hour from where we are staying, we will be going back before the week is up! read more

Wow, this place was great! Different, inventive menu of tapas was extensive. We ordered stuffed dates, little necks, coconut shrimp, a cheese plate and everything was delicious! We also tried the pineapple fruit infused vodka, which was interesting, but not my fave. My companion loved it though. One thing that could be changed, the hostess greeted us with a very strange "what can I do for you?" like we were intruding...but despite her rudeness, we will go again! We love this place. It's very different than a lot of the restaurants in Hyannis. We've only been here for dinner so can't really speak to the quality of their lunch. The atmosphere is really nice and modern. It's set up nicely to allow enough room for dancing while still leaving a great deal of space for those sitting at the bar to be comfortable. We've been here several times and each time, the quality of the food, service, and overall experience is a solid 4.5 stars. It's nothing fancy and I've had better tapas in Boston but on the Cape, the quality of the dishes we've ordered have been consistently good. We would highly recommend this for a Friday/Saturday night if you want some basic tapas, drinks, and some dancing! read more

Embargo inspired me to end my hiatus from yelp and write a review because it was such a great experience. Came here 7:30 on a Thursday night with my boyfriend. Live jazz! A little loud, but fun. Place is about half full. Server was great, very friendly and efficient. I had a belle vie cocktail (very sweet, tastes like something you'd give a kid) and the Elvis lives (distinctly NyQuil-like). We ordered a half dozen raw cape cod littlenecks (super fresh and yummy), the smoked salmon crostini (very good), the deviled eggs (very good), the steamed mussels meunière (amazing!!) and the spicy Cajun grilled fish tacos (liked the pickled onions and crema, fish grilled very nicely, did not like the flour tortilla - too thick - or the tangy red sauce it was drowned in). Finished with the peanut butter torte (like a giant Reese's, very dense, with whipped cream and blueberries on top). Now very full and very happy with the experience. read more

Our waitress never told us only certain ones were considered on the half off menu. The food we got was excellent however. Just very disappointed in the miscommunication. This is one of my favorite places to go for incredible cocktails while visiting the Cape. Last night, however, my party and I were denied entry because I was wearing a hat and my friend had a shirt with a hood. This took place before we made it off the sidewalk. Our waiter was Lou and he was AWESOME!! Very friendly and nice but not overbearing. He gave good suggestions for the food and definitely knew the menu very well. We had the Spicy Tuna Tower, Maryland Crabcakes, Duck confit flatbread, Brussels sprouts and the Braised short rib with mashed potatoes. Everything we ate was better than the last and all the food was SERIOUSLY delicious. We also had the sangria which was sooooo good! Ate here several months ago at the height of the summer and was delightfully surprised. The food, both hot and cold tapas were fantastic, and the presentation was spectacular. I had an infused vodka martini, and although the drinks were a little on the strong side, it was wonderful tasting. I thought the food prices were quite reasonable for the quality of the dishes served. My only wish is that I lived closer as I would definitely be there several times a week! The food here is absolutely phenomenal, besides the face that I had to wait over an hour for my flipping half priced tapas! I'm so satisfied with the food yes, but Jesus, are the cooks doing drugs in the back? I see staff walking by me laughing and talking and even taking selfies at the bar... Sadly I ordered an hour ago and still have not received my food. However my friend ordered the same thing as me and her food came out immediately... I'm slightly confused and slightly saddened... The one appetizer that finally after waiting 45 minutes was delicious! But I've literally watched 5 different waitress's including mine bring food to every single other table in the restaurant but mine.... I'm so so hungry and I've been here since 6:00 and now it's 8:12 and I've only had ONE appetizer?! Oh guess what, they lush finally brought my lobster potatoes and they brought me lobster Mac n cheese instead which is $7 more expensive for what I asked for.... The sad thing is that I'm a local and live right down the street... So I wanted to come here every Tuesday for the half priced tapas, but if I come here and have to wait two hours for them to mess up my order, I will never be coming back here again. read more

Atmosphere and decor are modern for most of the places on the Cape. The drinks menu is quite diverse and the drinks are good. Bartender was friendly. On the downside the food is nothing much. Selection of tapas ... kind of ok.. but sushi really... is quite amateur. The quality of the food overall is quite questionable... Recommend for going out at night ... for a drink with friends.
