Ube Matcha and matcha salt bread
    M N.

Ube matcha: ube flavor is very strong, which made the matcha flavor almost nonexistent. Matcha salt bread was cold and hard :( Pro: Friendly customer service and clean cafe. Lots of seating and outlets available for working or studying. Will try other items next time.

I was pretty exciting when I found out EM is coming to Elk Grove. There was a long line & service is slow even thought the staff was friendly. They kept most of the interior design from the previous coffee shop (Alley). The coffee is rich like typical Vietnamese coffee. I did order light ice with my ube coffee but still got 3/4 cup of ice in it. So if I pour the coffee out, I only got 1/2 of cup of coffee. Feel a bit rip-off. Wait time alone (in line to order & awaiting for my order) waste more than 1/2 hrs. Not worth the hype.

I loved this place and spoke highly of it but it seems like the quality has gone down. The matcha has become watered down and the pandan coconut is severely lacking the flavor that they advertise. Service is still great but I won't be coming for the matcha anymore :-( The cookies however are great! My favorite in order are the hazelnut chocolate chip cookie, ube white chocolate cookie, and pandan coconut cookie. They are even yummier when you warm them up.

I've visited this spot several times now, and one thing that keeps me coming back is the consistency. Both the quality of the drinks and the service have been solid with every visit. So far, I've worked my way through a variety of their Vietnamese coffee offerings as well as a few matcha drinks, and everything I've tried is well balanced (between sweetness and taste of coffee). While the prices are on the higher side for a café, the quality of the ingredients, presentation, and overall experience help justify the cost. The ambiance is another highlight. The space feels inviting and comfortable, somewhere I could easily spend a few hours working, or catching up with a friend over coffee. One item that's still on my must-try list is the salt bread. I've somehow missed it on each visit, but that's just another reason to come back. Looking forward to trying it next time!

I was a bit saddened when I saw The Alley (the former drink business) was gone, but it's nice to have a new coffee/drink place in the area. I'm cutting back a bit on my caffeine intake, so l've yet to try to the coffee, but l've had matcha drinks and an ube drink from Em. Most recently I've tried one drink from their seasonal series, the Matcha Cream Ube Milk. I got it half sweet, which was fine for me. I think I may have liked it slightly sweeter, but they only offer 100%, 50% or 0 sweetness. I could taste both individual flavors and thought it was an overall good drink. The matcha drinks I've had from here previously, the Matcha Einspanner and Strawberry Matcha have been good as well. I wasn't expecting the cream on the einspanner to be so thick, but it was a nice compliment to the flavor of the matcha, especially because I had opted to order my drinks without added sugar. After having their drinks with both no sugar and 50% sugar, I would say definitely keep it at 50% or 100%. Service was fast and friendly. Will continue to stop by whenever I want some matcha or coffee and am glad this business opened a location in EG! (The first location is in San Diego.)

Been here several times since they opened, and the coffee and matcha have been decent. The morning staff are also super nice. This spot took over the former Alley location, and while the layout is still mostly the same, it's been updated to match the personality and vibe of Em Coffee. They also have their original location in Mira Mesa, San Diego. DRINK REVIEW: Matcha Einspanner - 4/5 Strawberry Matcha - 3/5: Not my favorite. The matcha overpowered the strawberry flavor. Coco Ube - 3.5/5 White Truffle Tiramisu - 4/5: On the sweeter side. Overall, a good spot for decent coffee and matcha.

I was underwhelmed. I think the drinks are just okay and quite overpriced for what it is. If you pay a premium price, you kinda expect a premium product in return. I will probably give them a couple more tries to see if other items might be better and more worth it. *Shrug*

So I first came across this coffee shop for a Yelp Experience & it truly was love at first penny.(Yelp Experience Inside Joke).I hadn't had a lot of experience with Vietnamese coffee or matcha but to say I'm a huge fan of both now is a massive understatement. Funny thing-I live in the Natomas area-so this coffee shop is not close to me,but I've been here 4x since my initial visit. When I took my 23 year old daughter to the shop, she told me that the matcha there was one of the highest quality matcha she has ever had. I spoke to the owner on one of my visits and he told me his process of procuring his awesome matcha. He informed me he actually flies out to Kyoto and goes out to the farms and hand selects the highest quality matcha available and brings em back to his 2 locations, here in Elk Grove and the other in San Diego. I feel like you can really taste the quality in the matcha drinks they serve there. Some of my favorite drinks I've had during my visits. -Banana Toffee Latte-This is my go-to non matcha drink-it's a delicate balance of the strength of the Vietnamese coffee cut with the sweetness of the banana chips and the toffee chips and the frothiness of the oat milk-it's a great drink. -White Truffle Tiramisu Cream-This is such a beautiful treat of a coffee drink-very sweet-it's topped with a biscoff cookie and I like to crumble it and have the added cookie flavor to every drink. -Banana Matcha-This is my favorite Matcha drink that they have here, I was blown away by the perfect dollop of creamy banana pudding that mixed in so nicely with the matcha, creating a perfectly balanced drink. The banana chips at the top were a fun touch. -Strawberry Matcha-a very close second when it comes to matcha drinks at this place-very refreshing drink, blown away by sheer amount of matcha used in their drinks-the strawberry cuts thru the earthy tones of the matcha and strikes that perfect balance of sweetness and refreshment -a very solid drink. So far only thing we have had from their pastry offerings was an order of cinnamon bread-which basically was a more dense cinnamon roll type dessert-it was pretty good but nothing out of this world. In closing,I would fully recommend this coffee shop if your ever in the Elk Grove area and want to try something a bit different than your ordinary coffee shop offerings, their Vietnamese coffee is outstanding-their matcha is top notch and the place is so welcoming and the employees are always serving with a smile-got to love that. PS-This shop is located in a multi-tenant shopping center so lots of parking available yet still feels very cramped-not sure why.

Ayden is soooo friendly and kind. Both times I've been to this location he was extremely helpful. Aside from that the drinks are absolutely amazing. I've had the brown sugar matcha as well as the coconut matcha blast and both were delicious! Bathroom was extremely clean as well as the seating area.

We came here around 9:30 on a Saturday morning. There were not many people and only 1 person in line. Don't know what was going on but it took a long time for the customer in front of me to finalize her order. But the cashier was being very patient and friendly while assisting the customer. There is only 1 cashier and no ordering kiosk. This was our second time here. The first time, we tried their regular salted bread. The second time, we got the super coconut coffee blast, pandan coconut latter and pandan coconut roll. Salted bread: it was too dense. The flavor was just ok. Super coconut coffee blast: it was creamy from the ice cream. Overall, tasted good but nothing to rave about. Pandan coconut latte: too much cream and not enough coffee. Too much ice so equals less drink. Pandan coconut roll: pretty good. A bit crispy on the outer, inside was a bit fluffy. Felt like it needed more sweetness like condense milk which is offer in their self serve station. The restroom was huge but there was a puddle of water right under the soap dispenser. Also if you need paper towels to dry your hands, they are located next to the door and away from the sink. Because of this, you can see trails of water on the ground. Overall, this is a nice looking coffee shop. The pastries are quite pricey though. There are no prices listed for them on their display case. I didn't even know the salted bread and pandan coconut roll were like $5.50+ each.

Pro-tip: taste your drink before leaving to make sure if you want it sweeter, that you add condensed milk or sugar syrup that's available at the counter before you head out. Wife wanted Vietnamese coffee so we finally had a reason to get to EM coffee. The coffee comes out not overly sweet, they have a condensed milk squeeze bottle and sugar water squeeze bottle at the straw and napkin table. My wife did not let me put some in before we left, and I sadly found out that it's not extremely sweet by default which is probably a good thing for most people. Very modern hip hang out spot with plenty of bright lighting. Drinks were fairly priced and came out quickly Wife got the banana toffee latte and I got the pandan coconut latte. Both drink had subtle notes of flavor from their respective names ingredients. For how vibrant the pandan foam was on there shoulde be a deeper flavor. I also regret I would've stopped to put condensed milk in my drink.

Definitely cute place yet space is small. When I got there all tables and taken no place to sit. I like place that it has lots of sun light coming in. Service was great ladies very nice and fast with drink order. I like that they have lots different Matcha flavors, Matcha heaven I'd say. Matcha was good and Hazelnut cookie good Pricing expect to pay over $4 for a cookie and Matcha latte over $8 now add almond or oat milk over $9.

Eispanner matcha and pandan cinnamon roll

4/5- Ambiance: Nice decor, I like the white, wood and neutral colors with a touch of greenery. The space is clean and quaint but it appeared a bit cramped for the amount of people that preferred to work or chat amongst friends. All of the tables and chairs were occupied but I was lucky to find a small spot at the bar. 4/5- Service was prompt and helpful. 4/5- Food and beverage- I had the Matcha Eispanner and Panda Cinnamon roll. Both were good! The matcha was decent, well blended with no chunks and the cinnamon roll was not overpowering sweet but delicate and fluffy topped with toasted coconut. I ended up paying about $16 for both which was a little on the higher end considering the size. Would I visited to study again? Probably not. It was a bit cramped and not enough space to spread my books and laptop out. But it's a nice place.

The banana flavor paired surprisingly well with the matcha and made for a really refreshing drink. It was one of those drinks that I immediately knew I'd order again. But honestly, the highlight wasn't even the drink itself. It was the adorable little elephant vessel it came with. They put dry ice inside and then pour water into it, making it look like the elephant is blowing smoke out of its trunk. My daughter was completely mesmerized. Watching her reaction was worth the visit all by itself. What I loved most was that it wasn't just a gimmick. The drink was actually good, and the elephant made such a cute keepsake afterward. It felt like getting both a treat and a souvenir. The café itself had a fun atmosphere, and it was one of those places that felt a little different from your typical coffee or tea stop. Helpful tip: If it's your first visit, order one of the drinks served in the elephant. The presentation alone is worth it, especially if you're visiting with kids. Between the banana matcha and my daughter's excitement over the smoking elephant, this ended up being one of those unexpectedly memorable stops we'll be talking about for a while.
