First off Elysium should be a landmark as far as I'm concerned it's been around since 2001 which is coincidently when I move to Austin at the age of 20. I remember coming here in my 20's with friends to hang out, I was here on Halloween and even rang in new years here once. Now in my 40's I can say it hasn't changed and that's a great thing. The atmosphere is still that of a dark goth club which gives off the vibe of old goth movies like The Hunger, the music is loud, they do have theme music nights and the bar and bartenders are great. If I had to pick one word to describe this place it would be Classic. Some nights are busy some are quiet. I was here recently on a Tuesday after going to another show down the street so it was about 11 pm and was a quiet night, I mean it was a Tuesday after all, but the music was still great as were the drinks and company. I'd recommend this place to anyone as a must go to while in Austin. It's not chic, it's not hipster, it something authentic to Austin and Red River.

Elysium has the best decor if you are goth. It's perfection. Hipsters that are over everything and black. The people that work there are classy in that they are careful and thoughtful and kind. The best place to dance too, especially 80's knight!!

Do you want to feel your inner goth??? Come here. The bathrooms aren't too clean, but the ambiance is awesome!! It's in a historic building (check out the art on the side of the wall) and the music slaps. I didn't get to check out the bar area, but Ian and I had a wonderful time here. There is a $3 cover to get in and it is cash only for the cover unless you have a password (which we found on their Twitter to avoid atm fees).

NEVER KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT AT ELYSIUM! Always a VERY diverse crowd, good dance music, large space. Often have bands, acts, or "theme" nights. Vamp, 80s, goth, glam..you name it! Always a good time, More than just a bar; it's an "experience." Have never been disappointed!!...until... During my most recent visit, their was an "aerial" act ($6 cover). Was told it would begin in about 10 minutes. Over an hour later the "act" began. It was one of the most ridiculous, embarrassing things I've ever seen. No Cirque du Soleil here! Two women all twisted up and hanging onto the aerial ribbons for dear life! hahahahaha They had NO IDEA what they were doing! Bless their hearts. :) It was "entertaining" though - just not how I think they intended it to be. Every bit worth the 6 bucks spent because I laughed so hard I inadvertently got an awesome ab workout! I'll be back!

Those of you with a penis who need to piss or shit, this is your only option here at Elysium.

Do you want to get your club dance on? Then you might like this place. Just make sure you've extinguish your bowels beforehand, as you likely won't be pleased with your options should you find yourself needing to take a shit here.

The most fun place in Austin. Great for dancing on Saturday and Sunday nights it is an Austin icon.

Strong cheap drinks, great for drag shows, 80's night on Sunday's, and industrial/post-punk live bands. Nice intimate patio too.

The music and the crowed has a definite industrial bent, but to label the place as goth or industrial would be missing it.

First, finding songs was irritating since it's not an actual system that allows you to do that without refreshing the page and we had to spend like 10 minutes figuring out a playlist method on our own phones. Then, once we figured that out, the screen kept popping up with an error message saying playback was paused because the account was being used in another location. The first few times the staff came in to fix it but eventually they just taught us how to fix it ourselves and said it should be fine after we refresh the page and it'll just be another room's problem. . . After these mishaps the rest of the time was fine but these things just really left a bad impression on me.

Hands down the best night of my birthday weekend…read more This is a true dive bar karaoke spot--in the best way. Fun, chaotic, high-energy, and absolutely packed with people ready to sing their hearts out. Pro tip: get on the list early. We arrived around 8:00 on a Thursday and didn't get called up until close to midnight. Also, heads up--people do tip the DJ to move up, which we didn't realize at first. If you really want to sing, tip accordingly! Drinks are very affordable (don't come expecting craft cocktails), but the ranch waters were hitting the spot and kept the night going. If you want a loud, fun, unforgettable karaoke experience in Austin, this is the place. Would 100% do it again.

Crowd was fun, energy was right, people actually there to have a good time. That part felt effortless. Everything else? Felt like work. Bar staff moving slow, acting like basic service was optional. Zero urgency, zero warmth. And the bouncer... built like a tank, attitude to match. My guy, we're pulling up for karaoke, not trying to breach a nightclub bunker. Loosen it up just a bit. That's what makes it frustrating -- the core experience is there. Music, people, vibe? Solid. But the staff interaction keeps dragging it down. Fix that, and Ego's is a problem in the best way. Right now? Great night... if you can ignore the service.

My sister-in-law made reservations and we walked down the busy 6th Street to get there until we stopped at an unassuming and unlabeled door. Their menu is very creative, with unique names and unique ingredients. I don't like alcohol, so I was super happy to see an entire section dedicated to zero proof mocktails. I ordered the 5 AM somewhere which was a matcha based mocktail. It still had a bitter taste to it, perhaps from the Lyres Rosso. But the entire experience was so creative, led by our server/bartender Martin. He was a lot of fun and made the experience that much better. Fun people and the staff were great. My only complaint is that in order to sing, the bigger the tip to the deejay, the more likely you'll be able to get up and sing. We were there a few hours and signed up right away to sing. Gave $5 and my friend threw in $10 and we weren't called up to sing. There were a few that got up multiple times to sing in that same time frame. So that was my only reason for taking off a star. The deejay was raking in the tips and making it not an equal opportunity type thing. So plan on spending strip club cash to song karaoke here or just enjoy the vibe and don't bother participating doing a song or two.
