I was a bit underwhelmed by the variety of options since it was very sandwich focused and I was looking for something light without it being a salad. Landed on the fish and chips and a burger. The fish was cooked incredibly but it needed salt and the batter was too thick for my liking, it overshadowed the fish. The burger was good, but nothing to really write home to. My drink was SO strong that I couldn't drink it. Flavors were good but it was pure liquor (which I'm sure others wouldn't mind!) Service wasn't bad, our waiter was nice, but it did take a long time to get our check. It's worth trying out again for some of their specialty items, but more lackluster than I expected after wanting to come for years! The ambiance is what really takes the cake. Elegant but cozy with lots of green.

We came for our somewhat weekly bogo Monday dinner. As always, no disappointment here! I was shocked at how delicious the avocado and artichoke salad was. The prime sandwich was flavorful, fresh and hearty. I didn't try the fish tacos but my boyfriend said they were a bit soggy and oily. He was upset but probably wouldn't order them again. To no surprise, great staff and service and always a pleasant atmosphere.

Elysian Cafe is a wonderful place to grab brunch at with my Jersey friends. I rarely go to Hoboken anymore, but I wanted to check out my good friend's restaurant for so many years now and finally got around to do it! The exterior is gorgeous as well as the interior with all of its original molding and designs on the ceiling. I am a huge fan of that! The service was great and the food was amazing. I went with the steak and eggs and my friend went with oatmeal and then we shared an order of French toast and bacon. Everything was exceptional. Highly recommend coming here for a meal if you're ever in Hoboken!

We love this place! We have been many times. We have not been in a while, but finally got back there tonight. The food is always excellent! My husband is obsessed with the cheese platter and the steak frites. We met a new waiter named Benny who was very nice and helped me figure out what gluten free options to get. The hero of the night was Manuel. He came to our aid when a girl who bought us a drink and took our appetizer dishes, never replaced our silverware. Manuel was very apologetic and quickly got us silverware. He was very nice and friendly as well! All in all it was a great meal and we will be back soon!

I have wanted to come here for years and finally did just that when randomly in the area. I always see it so busy which is enough to turn me away when super hungry. However, on this lucky day it was early enough I hadn't hit the rush that showed up after I had sat down. We ended up sitting outside Al Fresco and let me tell you! The staff were super attentive, and the food was so good. My steak was perfect at a medium finish and the fries were fried to perfection that I couldn't stop eating them. My sandwich was also simple but flavorful, I'll never turn down a ham&cheese.

A Hoboken favorite for me! The atmosphere is lovely, food is always delicious. And on Mondays their 2 for 1 menu always hits. Huge discount with a lot of options. Even if you don't go on Monday though it's worth paying full price for the delicious food and cocktails. I highly recommend making a reservation in advance.

I love the place and I will always do so. But posting for the management to notice. Cracked coffee cups, broken water glasses that spilled water and even a noticeably long hair strand in the food (that could have flown in of course as it was open seating). Also the staff seemed distracted - it was busy of course. Wishing that they keep doing well and stay nice. The experience overall is still very positive.

Steak Fries $36 Don't come here for steak, it's doesn't taste good... I ordered medium rare and came medium / medium well. I can't really get the beef taste, texture wise it's quite chewy, and it's not seasoned well, you have to add salt & pepper yourself. The thyme butter doesn't really add much.

    Is this place kid friendly?

Hi. We love kids. We have a special kids menu with delicious choices. On Tuesdays, Kids eat free from 5pm to 8pm.

    Do they take reservations?

Definitely not for groups of 2-4. Maybe for party sized groups.

How would they fit a party of 14?

They have a very nice space in the back section (passed the bar area). It works. I've held large party gatherings there. Good time!

Village eateries helmed by power-chef duo Jody Williams and Rita Sodi; four are within a block of each other. I passed the other three (Bar Pisellino, Via Carota, I Sodi) on my way and all had lines out the door. Carota and Sodi are Italian, Buvette is French. There are 2 other Buvettes in Asia and one coming soon in London. Buvette does not do reservations. Buvette is a charming but tiny/cramped space, made more tiny within the last year by NYC's removal of pandemic-era street patios which greatly helped dining capacity. Buvette may sometimes have a few front sidewalk tables, and there's a tiny outdoor patio in the back. The tables and dishware are also tiny. There's a kitchen in the back, but some food is also prepared below the bar in front, where there seem to be some ovens. The food seems reliably consistent here. The menu is short but there are daily specials. I ordered a non-alcoholic ginger soda, crab tartine (a special), lobster a l'Americaine (lobster pot pie) and frites. The soda is always on the menu and is refreshing, with a nice snap of ginger. The crab tartine was fab, a fresh crab salad with avocado atop toast. The lobster pot pie was made in the under-bar oven, a small serving of lobster and veggies with a golden puff pastry topper. Delish. The frites were nicely crisp, served with an aioli. Service was okay, but my hot food took about 45 minutes to come out, apparently because my ticket was lost. Overall a pleasant meal, my first during this visit.

This isn't a large restaurant either so it definitely felt more cramped. The tables here are extremely small, which is probably comparable to real brasseries in Paris. But given the dishes here are gigantic the table sizes only fit 1 dinner dish. First the service was excellent! We asked for another empty table in the middle of our meal as the dishes were so cramped from our apps we knew it would not work for our mains. They were gracious to allow us to do so. Which made our main courses so much more comfortable to enjoy. For apps we ordered the escargot, burrata, mussels, and onion soup. Loved the escargot! However the onion soup we could not finish it was so salty, with not enough bread to taste with. Note they also do not offer any bread basket! Which I was surprised. I really wanted to like the onion soup but really far too salty. For our mains, we shared the daily special which was tenderloin with seared foie gras (yup you heard it right! The real stuff! My favorite), seared scallops, rib eye, salmon, beef bourguignon and the duck magret. My fav was definitely the tenderloin and salmon was delicious. However the scallops were really missing that flavor for me, very bland. And the duck, was very bloody and only consisted of 2 pieces! I thought that was kinda on the stingy side. Wasn't even a whole breast, literally 2 cut slices. Also note the fries are delicious here! Overall, while the service was great. The food was really lacking in many aspects. Really enjoyed the seared foie gras (the real stuff!), salmon, escargot, mussels and the fries! However extremely salty onion soup, lacking flavor in scallops and very small portion. It just did not do it for me.

Food was standout: muscles 'Nduja, with Cannelini Beans, Sage, Grilled Sourdough had a savory spicy and slightly meaty broth from the 'nduja and was balanced by the buttery-texture and savory palate cleansing effects of the cannelini beans and enlivened by the sage. The Kale Salad with Sweet Potato, Marcona Almonds, Red Onion, Buttermilk Vinaigrette had fine chiffonade greens but kale being very tough held up perfectly for service under these conditions and was balanced by the candied sweet potato and almonds. The dressing was almost too heavy, but was just barely under the wire for "overdressed." What could take this to great? For me 4 stars is excellent and 5 means beyond reproach. I would adjust the salad for dressing down by about 1/3 and reduce the sweetness of the crust on the sweet potatoes by about 1/2 and add 25% more beans into the broth of the muscles. Otherwise, I couldn't improve on the food. At the price point, I have zero complaints on food or service. Oh and we only waited about 20 minutes which was pleasant on a packed Friday night, although we did eat standing up at a counter and had to move after about 90 minutes for the next party, but no complaints there. Update re-ate the exact same meal a second time on Saturday December 26 and the balance of the dishes was even better. I upgrade to 4.5 stars on the food. The service was exceptional and wonderful. We felt welcomed and attended to. For these reasons I'm updating to five stars overall considering the category, cost and overall expectations.
