Mooncake
Rod U.

中秋节快乐 Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! Mooncake time! Sticking to the traditional, these are some great mooncakes. Thin skin surrounding a firm but silky smooth lotus paste. Within, well seasoned, perfectly cooked salted egg yolks, not at all powdery. Lots of other filling options though no fruit filled snow skin and very sadly no teochew mooncakes, IMHO the absolute best made with layers of crisp dough surrounding traditional fillings, served ward. Sigh. Yes, we all know they are a solid Chinese bakery and we all know they make solid American style cakes but mooncakes make them special.. Reasonable prices. $10 / mooncake. Note: Despite the heavy road work on Dillingham due to the rail, access to the strip mall is relatively easy. Use a nav app ie Waze for the fastest construction bypass. Solid and a mandatory stop to celebrate the next Mid-Autumn Festival.

I've been to Elvin's a few times before. After having lunch at Oshimas Ramen a few doors away,my wife went to get us some dessert. I have high praise for their Stawberry cake. Light fluffy and delicious. Today I ate their cream cheese Danish. It was a disappointment. Thr breading was nice and fluffy, but the cream cream cheese filling was almost non existing. See my pictures. I hope this was a fluke.

Elvin started working at Panya Bakery in 1997 where he gained experience in baking breads and pastries, as well as cake decorating, with some of the best local bakers. Friends encouraged him to open his own bakery, so husband and wife bakers Elvin and Vivian Lau opened Elvin's Bakery in the Kapalama Shopping Center in Oct. 2013 and are still enjoying it! They work about 12 to 14 hours per day to bake 400+ pastries and 50 cakes per day that are sold on a wholesale and retail basis. Elvin's Bakery signature item is their strawberry shortcake that is a light sponge layered cake with fresh strawberries and a whipped cream icing made from scratch. The cake is light, fluffy, and creamy that melts in your mouth. This local, family-owned Hong-Kong style bakery offers the following: * Cakes: strawberry shortcake, mango mousse, red velvet, tiramisu, chocolate dream, mango, chestnut, lychee, lilikoi, Chantilly, mixed fruit, coffee, matcha azuki bean, Japanese cheesecake. * Pastries: ham & cheese croissant, danishes, an pan, coconut cream, cream cheese, ensaymada, pineapple, raisin stick, donuts, rolls, scones, banana bread. * Mooncakes: mini pig, ham, egg yolk, mixed nut, ham, mung bean paste, squash. * Bread/rolls: cinnamon toast, lavosh, muffins, crown bread, Sapporo sweet bread, raisin, white. * Cookies: almond bar, choc chip, mac nut, Russian tea, lemon bar, brownie, furikake lavosh. * Wedding cakes. * Drinks: coffee (Americano, expresso, latte, cappuccino, mocha, Vietnamese); hot chocolate; iced coffee; soda. They use a state-of-the-art expresso/coffee machine that grinds fresh made-to-order coffee. All cakes can be custom-decorated with attention to detail. For our 50th wedding anniversary celebration at Jade Dynasty, my daughter called from Maui and ordered a half sheet strawberry shortcake that was to be served to guests that were present. She was pleased with the results. The white frosting and shell borders highlighted the freshly glazed whole strawberries, fresh blueberries, and milk and white chocolate straws bordering the cake. An authentic Precious Moments porcelain figurine holding a note of God's blessings of 50 years of togetherness adorned the middle of the cake and surprisingly, was not too heavy for the cake. A white chocolate square with a writing on it with anniversary congratulations with our names was also placed as a cake topper. We were impressed with the pretty decorations and the height of the cake. Everyone loved the taste of the cake with fresh fruits and its creamy fluffiness! Outstanding! Thanks also to Jade Dynasty Restaurant in allowing the cake to be refrigerated until we were ready for it and having staff to assist in serving it! Sliced cakes are available for purchase in single-serving sizes. Beautiful custom-made small boxes are used for these cake slices when purchased. Elvin's Bakery also makes its own mooncakes for the annual Chinese Autumn Festival. They make regular=sized and mini mooncakes, as well as piggy-shaped ones. Fillings include: squash, coconut, lotus paste, or red bean paste with egg yolk, mixed nut and ham, and more. If purchasing a set of 4 mooncakes, a pretty designed, hard-cover box is used with a matching red/yellow handle bag that is excellent for gift giving. Staff are family members who are friendly, knowledgeable, efficient, and willing to accommodate. My daughter noted that she did not have any problems in ordering the cake for the anniversary party. The small interior houses a couple of display cases that show case available decorated cakes and cake slices. Along the perimeter of its walls are shelves of help-yourself pastries, breads, rolls, and cookies. Hours of operation are Tues to Sat 8a to 5p, Sun 8a to 4p, Mon closed. The entrance fronting the shopping complex is presently closed due to ongoing rail construction, so you will need to use the back entrance accessible via another street. Free parking is available in the shopping complex that is shared with other businesses. It is good to have choices in bakeries and knowing that Elvin's Bakery has its signature strawberry shortcake that is a crowd pleaser! Plus, with its variety of pastries and custom-made mooncakes, there is something for everyone! Support local!

My friend recommended Elvin's bakery to me when I was looking for a Chinese bakery. It's a family run business so it looks nice, not fancy. Even though we didn't buy any other bake goods, they look nice and fresh. We bought the mango, lychee and passion fruit mousse cakes. (Sorry the picture only shown the lychee and passion fruit). They are all very delicious, not too sweet. We definitely will go back for more cakes and probably will try other baked goods.

I haven't actually been here so I can't speak to customer service, location, etc. I have, however, had the strawberry shortcake on three occasions. The cake is delicious. Fresh strawberries and fruit with a light frosting that isn't too sweet. Yum. Perfect Asian style cake. One time, I ordered the cake but had someone else pick up. The service over the phone was good. I was about to quickly order the cake and pay over the phone. I'd definitely recommend for a yummy Asian style cake.

Elvin's Bakery is a HK style bakery which located at Kapalama Shopping Center. There're a lot of free parking. It's a small bakery but there're a lot of choices to pick. I order all of my birthday cakes at Elvin's. The best one I believe is the Mango Mousse cake. They used all the fresh ingredients and the cake wasn't too sweet. I tried all of their sliced cakes and all tasted very good and moist. Very friendly owner and great service. Don't miss this hidden germ on Dillingham Street.

We have been coming to Elvin's for over 15 years and truly has been a staple in our family events from birthdays, graduations, Mother's Day and so many other events! They are extremely consistent with their products, you will never be disappointed. They are punctual and will always have your correct product ready at the specified time. The cakes are light, airy and not too sweet (the ultimate Asian compliment!) Our family favorites include the mixed fruit cake, mango cake and strawberry shortcake. Hope to continue getting Elvin desserts for many years to come!

Elvin's is basically my office's go-to cake shop for quick cakes to grab for work birthdays. The staff are friendly and the cakes taste great. Very fast service and they'll write a custom frosting note on your cake if you want. Usually we get the strawberry shortcake but we've also had the red velvet and that cake is super delicious too. The cakes are also presented very well and I don't think anyone would be disappointed receiving one.

I ordered a strawberry cake from Elvin's and it was delicious! I also had to make a change on the pickup date and they were very friendly and accommodating. I'll be buying more from them that's for sure. Good deserts and friendly service is a winning combination!

Lots of free parking in this busy shopping area. Be prepared to stand in line, as this bakery is ultra popular and pastries fly off the shelf. Get there early! You can order your beautiful cake and request for writing. It's small inside but well worth the wait! Enjoy this hidden gem in Kalihi!

Lemon bar and more
Jackie K.

Sadly my review of Elivin's bakery is not great. We picked up a slice of the recommended best seller strawberry shortcake cake, lilikoi cake, lemon bar and bolo Bao. The strawberry shortcake whipped frosting was not like whipped cream. It tasted waxy and not fluffy. It was not fresh whipped cream. The strawberries did not taste fresh either. The cake portion was on the dry side. 2 out of 5 stars. The lilikoi slice was not edible. Not sure if something was wrong here. The lilikoi topping was super sour. Maybe something happened? The cake was dry and old tasting. We ended up throwing it away. Three of us tried a taste and it was a no go. 1 out of 5 stars. Lemon bar. I enjoyed the lemon part. The crust was unfortunately not crisp or flaky. Maybe it was refrigerated too long. The bar was on the soft side. It is individually wrapped and the top will get messed up if your not careful how you open it up. 3 out of 5 stars. The Bolo Bao. A simple plain and average sweet bread. No filling. Just bread. 3 out of 5 stars. Service. Really nice lady helped us with our choices. She was sweet and informative. 5 out of 5 stars. You are charged 50 cents per box. The receipt is not itemized so you need to pay attention to the signage. The bakery is quaint and clean. It's located in the Kapalama Shopping Center. There is free parking available in the area.

Awesome service and beautiful ono cakes Even allowed after hours pick up to be able to have the freshest cake.

How pretty is this Chantilly cake?

I've been supporting Elvin's for years. I'm happy to see how successful his bakery is. Congratulations Elvin! He offers many of the pastries found at Panya plus plus. I also order cakes for special occasions. Cakes are pretty, moist and delicious. The location is great because I can pick up cake and pastries, chicken wings from Wing Stop, a sushi platter from Ahi and Vegetable, chili and a fried noodle platter from Zippy's and BAM, I'm ready to party!

Yes, they do.

How many days In advance should we make cake orders? My husbands birthday is this Saturday & I've just been trying to find a good cake place & finally came across this one. Could I call tomorrow & pick it up on Saturday?

We typically recommend 2 days in advance but we try to accommodate if there’s a rush! Feel free to call to check in!

It features a perfectly caramelized, crispy exterior, while the earthy, nutty black sesame filling adds a massive depth of flavor that makes it really unique. Classic Kouign Amann (4/5): Extremely buttery and flaky, almost like a top-tier croissant with a sweet, caramelized crunch. It is a solid classic on its own, though it is easily overshadowed if you try the black sesame version alongside it. Kona Drip Coffee (4/5): Served extremely hot and fresh. This is a very strong, robust, and slightly acidic 100% Kona brew with a clean finish that acts as the perfect contrast to balance out the rich, sweet pastries. We decided we would be good and ordered one unfilled Malasada each. Dusted with various sugar flavors, they were just $2.65 a piece. That wasn't necessarily a bad thing since we had dinner ahead of us. However, we let temptation get the best of us and shared a $5.50 slice of the Ube Haupia Mac Nut Bar, a yummy combination of sweet potato and ube topped with haupia (coconut milk pudding) on a macadamia nut crust (Photo 9). Truth be told, it stole the show from the malasadas. FOOD - 4 stars... the malasadas were good, but that ube dessert was next level AMBIANCE - 4 stars...really a takeout operation with a lot of temptations SERVICE - 4 stars...very calm and orderly TOTAL - 4 stars...yet another spot for sweet Hawaiian decadence RELATED - Exploring Hawaii? The butterfish was delicious-perfectly cooked and seasoned. I loved their potato mac salad. The rice and corn complemented the meal well. The guava plantation iced tea was lightly sweetened. Breakfasts were also good here the portions were large; I couldn't finish everything on the plate. Stop by the bakery on the way out for some goodies for later!

I'm happy to see a local business thriving but I hope they can improve their customer flow. The baked goods looked as inviting as always but they seemed a day-old or something. The butter horn was hard and not flaky as I've come to expect and the chocolate of the Boston Creme donut wasn't creamy. They may wish to consider: 1, Clearly delineating the line for the restaurant from the bakery. It was super busy for both so there was a lot of confusion. 2. Perhaps placing the number machine for the bakery closer to the door? Tourists aren't familiar with the system so it leads to some unnecessary dissatisfaction. 3. The staff had to leave the counter to get coffee - hot or iced. The condiments for the coffee were on the showcase so people had to be in everyone's way to get their sugar and cream. In fact, if you were standing near the door you had to go through people waiting in line back into the establishment to get those items. But, with all this, the two ladies at the counter were remarkably composed and helpful.
