"It be bad" indeed. I have been vegetarian for more than 3 years but before that I loved going to Elmer's. My friends all agree it is the same. It is a hole in the wall and the parking is insane, but the food is well prepared and I adore the employees. Chopped beef sandwiches with the sauces poured by you to the spice you desire is a perfect dinner or lunch. I also recommend the potato salad. read more

Wow. Where do I even start? I will keep this very short because not much can be said. This is the worst BBQ I've ever tasted in my life. It's beyond appalling. The ribs, chicken, pork, and sliced beef are cooked with a complete lack of passion.. There is ZERO flavor. The sauce is disgusting. They put cinnamon, yes CINNAMON, in their "sauce". This shit is disgusting. And that's an understatement. If you think this "BBQ" is good, you have no idea what good BBQ is. I wouldn't feed this shit to my dog. read more

Living in the brookside area for a little while now and a lover of BBQ, it's a little shocking I haven't been here before! It was worth the wait! The meat was amazing! I had the sample plate which came with ribs, pork and brisket. This was some of the best BBQ I have had anywhere. On top of this for a very reasonable price, it includes Texas toast and two sides. I had the green beans and BBQ beans. The green beans were the best I have had bar none. It included onion and some small pieces of BBQ'd meat mmmmmmmmm The service was exceptional to! I have nothing to chip this place about! read more

It don't be bad! 'It be bad' is the motto of Elmer's BBQ in Tulsa, OK. ** FRIENDLY ** service. We went on a holiday night during the Thanksgiving break and the place was packed, and the poor server was working his tail off. The owner came out and said 'Hi,' and everyone was super friendly and festive. I love Brisket, and they had a nice selection of chopped brisket with spicey sauce. No greens though :-(. Fixin's were great. Ribs were delish. Took some time to get the food, but when you are going for BBQ you gotta be Southern and take your time: socialize, have fun, sit a spell, and eat wayyyyyyyyyy tooooooo mucccccchhhhhh meeaaaattttttt. YUM. read more

Not as good as before, but still OK. The baloney and links were pretty good. I used to go out of my way for the green beans, but the recipe must have changed because now they are nothing special. Service is good and the BADwhich is the thing to order because of the novelty. read more

Is bad alright! Bad in the very best sense of the phrase. The ribs are super tender and meaty, and juicy. The rub is tasty, the sauce you don't need, but is fine. The only reason I don't give Elmer's 5 stars is because I like a bit of smokey flavor, which these ribs are short on. Also had pulled pork, 3 stars. The green beans were very down-home and tasty. The atmosphere is really nice- the blues-eum is worth the effort alone. read more

Don't ever go here if you're hungry. There's a pretty good chance you won't receive a meal - even for money - if my experience is any indication. Since I've been back in town (about a year and a half now), I've tried to eat at Elmer's twice. The first time, I was met with a handmade sign that informed me that the restaurant was closed for "Spring Break". Good God, restaurants close for spring break now? What the deuce!?! The second time was just as unsatisfying, though I actually made it inside. Though the restaurant was somewhat busy at 6:30 at night, it was not nearly busy enough to warrant the creased brows and harried looks on the faces of what I could only assume was the staff. I stood by the register for an eternity, looking like a damned idiot, waiting for my hunger to be addressed in a definitive manner. After ten minutes, I left and had an unsatisfactory roast beef at the Arby's across the street. Hey, no hard feelings! I'm sure there must be a reasonable explanation for this. I'm sorry, though, I gave it my best try. I won't be back. In closing, I'm giving Elmer's two stars because I ate there once about ten year's ago and remember it being pretty okay. read more

The only way Tulsa can do BBQ right is to learn from someone who really knows how to cook BBQ in TX or Atlanta then move back here. The sauces were too much on the sweet side. There was no vinegar sauce at all. Chopped pork is chopped pork. It was kind of bland until I put some sauce on it. I'll keep looking around. read more

First time visiting and glad we checked it out! Atmosphere is bluesy. It was not over crowded and loud like most restaurants! Loved the food, was delicious!! We will be back!! :) read more

Elmer's BBQ - The famous Badwich and the Pulled Pork sandwich. Opted for the hot fresh toast instead of a bun...was delicious! - Barbeque Near Me - Tulsa, Oklahoma

Excellent old fashioned Barbeque. Dorothy represented establishment well she demonstrated Southern hospitality with the grandmother's advise. The sweet potato pie was wonderful. The Barbeque sauce was not palpable to my pallet. I am soo glad I stopped at this establishment. read more

i ordered the "bad-wich." which 4 meats: ribs, bologna, sausage or hot links & chopped beef, with your choice of texas toast or buns, along with 2 sides. thing is, they forgot my texas toast but I wasn't trippin' b/c it seemed better w/o it. the ribs had a nice burnt crust, the sausage, bologna & beef had a nice, smokey taste. for my sauce, I got the mixed bbq sauce, which is a mix of hot & sweet, you can't go wrong w/ that. my 2 sides: green beans (which bits of meat in it) & baked beans. both were good. the service was on point, the food didn't take long for me to get. I enjoyed it all around. read more

Wow, not sure if I can top the review below. But I really, really enjoy this place. I like the different sauces they have, 4 flavors I think, and the signature sauce is pretty cinamonny, pretty thin, and good. What was good here? I thought the ribs were awesome. I know BBQ places sometimes a bad batch can come out, but the ribs were awesome--it had a very good crust to it and was super tender. Would have liked a bit more of a smoked flavor, but too much smoke to me is never good. The sausage I thought was very tasty as well. I'm not a sausage buff so I wont comment as far as it was very good. The baked beans were good and the potato salad was great! Not your average potato salad, almost a more of potato salad ingredients in a mashed potato texture. Super good though! The chopped brisket was decent, I have had better. Didn't have much of a smoke taste and not too flavorful. The coleslaw was meh. Didn't have much of a taste to it. That's why it's a 4 star place, not everything was great, but VERY, VERY solid overall. Will continue coming here when I pass through the city. read more

Great BBQ place. Playing B.B. King when I walked in. Always a good sign. Had the two meat plate and was very good read more

The best BBQ I've tasted thus far in my life. However, it's a bit on the pricey side, and the portions look to be a bit small. (I had a half chicken, so this was not an issue.) Still delicious and worth eating at again. read more

Get the BADwich, legen...dary-dary. (Bun + chopped brisket + hotlink + ribs + bbq'd bologna = Badwich) Sides: Baked Beans (smokey, baconey deliciousness) Potato Salad (a little more vinegar than most people make it with but it is good) Sit in Big Mama's section. read more

Ordered a Nelson's Taste a Plate for 6 to take out. This came with Ribs, smoked bologna, chopped beef, hot links and smoked sausage. Your choice of three sides: I had Cole slaw, Baked beans and potato salad. Add some hot sauce and I had a meal for my Mom and Dad, wife, Brother and Sister in Law while we were watching OU play football. Call ahead it takes 15-20 to put the package together for you. When I am eating in I usually get the Badwich. It is a chopped beef sandwich with bologna, a rib and a hot link. Mmmm. Good! Thanks for making the visit with the parents a good one! read more

As a Texan BBQ fanatic, I tried many different BBQ places around Tulsa once I moved here--mostly at friends' recommendations and assurances that the next one was "great". After several months of disappointments, I was convinced that Tulsa didn't have good BBQ. This wasn't from an elitist point of view, but just a sad statement of what I thought was fact. Then one day someone decided to cater a meeting at the office from Elmer's. "What is THIS!?" I said. I had discovered great BBQ right here in Tulsa. Now it is pretty much the only real BBQ I eat here. When I have to go to Rib Crib with colleagues, I get the salad. ;-) read more

I thought this place was okay. The spare ribs were a little dry and the chicken lacked flavor. I got a side of green beans and they were pretty good. The coleslaw was average. The staff was friendly and the food came out quickly. If the food was a little bit more fresh I think it would be a lot better. read more

I can't believe more people haven't reviewed this restaurant!! WE LOVE IT. It's a nice, little restaurant with down home hospitality and GREAT bbq. You really can't go wrong with the menu. Whether it's the ribs, the sausage, or the sides, there's flavor in every bite. The service is friendly and fast, the servings are plentiful. Oh, and their slogan is "it be bad" and trust us, you'll leave satisfied and ready to come back for more. read more

Short Ribs were awesome! Had 4 bone dinner, would have been fine with 3 bones. Sides small, but delicious. I had the baked beans and cole slaw - waitress gave me extra (green beans) for free....would order the exact same again. Sauces good, but not much variation (2 taste the same - one is hot). Cost $37 w/o tip for two. read more

Just moved back to Tulsa, after being away for 15 years. This was my favorite BBQ place before I had traveled the country and the world. Just went here tonight for the first time since being back. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is still my favorite BBQ joint. The staff was so friendly. The BBQ was great. Love the brisket and bologna. A great place to dine with the whole family. We are in Tulsa for the weekend up from South Texas and I wanted to see what the BBQ was like here. Found this place on Yelp and I think I died and went to heaven. Got the "Badwich". It had 4 different meats on it. They were smoked to perfection!!! They don't put sauce on their meat, it's in a bottle on the table so you can add as much as you want. Super tasty! One of the meats was smoked bologna and it was thick sliced and smoky. Yum! And I don't normally like bologna. The ambience was awesome with BB King music and decorations and the service was fast and friendly. The only downside to this place was that it was soooo good I couldn't stop eating! If I lived around here I'd be a real regular. read more

I've been here a few times and the chopped beef brisket sandwich was pretty good but I didn't care for anything else. The restaurant is small and was never busy when I came in, so I got my food pretty quickly. The only thing that bothered me was the guy that waited my table. This was three years ago so he's probably gone now, but his name was Jules, and he made a comment that I was the only white person there and because of that, I was drawing attention to myself. He hit on me the entire time and the way he looked at me too was so creepy. I haven't been back since. read more

This is the Worst BBQ I have ever eaten and the service was even worse..don't even think of eating here

Just perfect! We heard Tulsa has good BBQ and I am so happy this is the place we chose! We ordered the pulled pork sandwich and the beef sandwich with the Texas toast and coleslaw and potato salad. The pork was perfectly, NATURALLY smoked just right and was moist and tender! Husband said the beef was excellent too. I was too busy shoveling the pork into my face to remember to ask for a bite of the beef! The coleslaw and potato salad were also absolutely perfect! The coleslaw had the perfect hint of sweetness and the potato salad had an amazing creamy texture and a bit of tang.... so we finished our meal, measured how long the rest of our travel was going to be for the day, and ordered AGAIN!!! We stuffed ourselves!!! Do yourself a favor and eat here!!!! The service was friendly, helpful and fantastic! The boss man took time to come make sure we were happy, which of course we were! I LOVED all the jazz and blues memorabilia too! Very impressive collection! read more

The atmosphere is so cool I'd come back even if the food was just okay. It's a hole in the wall with classic blues and pictures of Muddy Waters and BB King on the walls. Fortunately the food is much better than okay. I can't believe I've lived here ten years and only just discovered this place. read more

We stopped in tonight and got some ribs takeout. We only tried the sweet sauce. (forgot to get the hot) but it was very good. Ribs were prepared just the way we like them- not falling off the bone, cooked/smoked just right with great flavor. We are huge ribs snobs so this is a big compliment. Beans were ok, potato salad had very good flavor but I prefer a more traditional consistency (these were more like mashed potatoes). We'll be back if we're ever in Tulsa again. :) read more

People typically either LOVE Elmer's or HATE it. I fall somewhere in the middle. For my money their "mixed" sauce is the best sauce around (which is something like heresy for me since I grew up in Ponca with Head Country). They have 3 sauces they offer - sweet, spicy, and mixed - I would say go with the mixed. It's got a cinnamon flavor to it (or at least that's what it tastes like to me). I've eaten here a few times and I would say do not, under any circumstances, order the ribs or the brisket. Each time I've visited it's been way overdone. The sausage, hot links, and bologna here are very, very good. My recommendation would be to order a 2-meat sandwich and get hot links and bologna with mixed sauce. You will not be disappointed if you stick to that routine. I think they may use miracle whip in their potato salad, it was a little sweeter than I typically prefer, but most of the sides are pretty solid, if unspectacular. read more

Stopped by based on Yelp reviews . Establishment is clean and was busy ! The lady that helped was super friendly and attentive to keeping my drink filled and made sure I was happy with my meal. Came with green beans that been smoked with chunks of meat and beans also with large chunks of meat. Keith was super friendly and helped me checked out.
