Incredible BBQ! We were driving from Wyandotte Oklahoma to Tulsa airport. Someone said we must eat at Elmer's barbecue. Let me tell you this was the best stop we made in our whole trip for food. Elmer himself was behind the counter serving up some of the best barbecue we've ever ever had! read more

I'm so happy I looked up top BBQ restaurants, because I wouldn't have found this gem. My parents wanted "really good BBQ," and of course I'm a vegetarian and my husband no longer eats red meat we aren't well versed in the BBQ department. Thanks to Yelp Elmer's was listed as number 1 or 2 as suggested places to visit for BBQ. Upon walking in I knew I chose the right place, we were promptly greeted by a kind lady who told us to seat ourselves. The restaurant is filled with collectible blues memorabilia, take some time to look around. My parents and son absolutely loved their orders, and I enjoyed my time there speaking with the owner Keith. My mom said her ribs were just fall off the bone good, don't short yourself on the sauce, and the sausage is perfect. My husband was impressed by the smoked salmon, turkey, and chicken options; he really enjoyed his sandwich. There was a couple whom traveled from Arkansas to try Elmer's and they continued to rave about their ribs, bologna, and the sauce (that's made in house by Keith.) Moving forward I will always treat my BBQ loving guests to Elmer's; I highly recommend. *** Make sure to check in, you'll receive 10% off your order of $10.00 or more *** read more

So Friday we stopped in, first time even tho we've heard about the BBQ for a very long time. Picked up some baby back ribs to reheat the day after during the college football games. Ribs with the sweet sauce were reheated as per the instructions provided by the Elmer's staff along with potato salad and fabulous Cole slaw. Could not have asked for a finer meal. The ribs were tender and the extras were great. Will most definitely be returning to try the other options from their menu. read more

Great conversation, great service, great location and the best BBQ you'll have, period. Keith is THE man. I moved away a couple years ago and Elmer's is now always my first stop when I'm back in town to visit. Get the Badwich w/ hot links + a side of fried okra and mac w/ a sweet tea. read more

FLAVOR WAS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST!!! Had rib dinner with baked beans & green beans! Ribs were all good size, lots meat and fat trimmed just right! Rub on the rib was the best ever! Not overlooked but juicy and tender yet not falling off the bone so u can use UR hands :) Best BBQ so far in Tulsa!!! The baked beans were good but lil too soupy thin, I like mine little thicker sauce ... Service was good and polite! Place was very clean and yes my new fav BBQ!! read more

Texan here. Food was fantastic, owner is beyond the moon good at service!!! Blues music channel makes it a rounded out perfect spot!

Not only is it great barbecue but on the plate, you can get a mixture of different meats. The worst part is that I couldn't finish it. Everything was so good, but there were so much of it I left full and happy. Hope to return to Tulsa for another plate. read more

Love this local staple. I was introduced to Elmer's in college and love to stop by when I'm in town. You walk in and seat yourself they're menu has everything from chicken and pork to even smoked salmon if you're wanting to feel a bit healthier when you walk out! Their sides are so good that it's hard to pick just one! My two favorite are their corn and beans. Their corn is so soft and with the butter it literally is so juicy and good!! Their beans are sweet they aren't your typical canned beans these are good i promise. My husband really enjoyed the green beans but I've never tried them. Their bologna is great and tasty what makes it even better is their homemade from scratch sauces! They're so fun to mix. The red bottle one is my favorite it's a mixture is sweet and spicy. The interior of this place is filled with vintage signs from B.B. king to Tulsa stuff. It's just a great feel good and eat good food type place. The service you receive is great the waiter is always the kindest man and just is cheerful! He never lets your tea go empty which that's another thing, if you get half and half sweet tea it's plenty sweet! read more

Badwich is so good! Sauces are awesome as well. The place has moved down the road and much smaller than before the pandemic. Owner and staff are very friendly. Old school great bbq. read more

Stopped in here with my daughters. The service was excellent, very friendly and welcoming. The food was great. They liked the sides as much as the meat! (beans & corn in particular). read more

I need to preface my review with a few things, I know a little bit about BBQ because I judge BBQ competitions, I'm a backyard cook, and I eat a lot of BBQ. Also, I'm cheering for them because they're a Tulsa staple. A lot of my ideas of how the meat was cooked is speculation. The fried okra was good. It was crunchy and not over cooked. The spare rib was good but there wasn't a nice bark or crust on the rib and there wasn't a deep smoke ring on any of the meat. The brisket had a thin bark on there, but it was overcooked and dry. The pulled pork wasn't really pulled. It was cubed and dry. The bark wasn't really bark it was essentially dryer pork. I speculate they smoked too hot, not long enough, and the meat didn't pull apart so they chopped. I understand that restaurant BBQ is different than competition, but restaurant BBQ is supposed to be good eating. A few examples, brisket can be over cooked but it needs to be moist and flavorful. Rib falloff the bone is good eating. Elmers has been in Tulsa for quite awhile and has a mom & pop feel. The walls are decorated with a lot of old Jazz memorabilia. The meat didn't really have a nice rub flavor or crust. For doneness they didn't hit the perfect window. The spicy sauce is spicy and great. I would say Emers is worth a try. The portions are generous and the prices are pretty reasonable. read more

Elmer's BBQ is a company fave. Great food, and exceptional service. Food is delicious. We used the company for a corporate catering order and everyone was pleased, will definitely eat there again! First time today at the new location, and happy to say it's still the same great BBQ. Love the blues music that they still have going, and the photos of blues legends on the walls. Its counter service now, which is different than before, but it works. Will definitely be going back. read more

Awesome bbq! Very authentic and genuine. Great service and friendly workers! Inside is very homey and fits an old school comfort-vibe well.

We bought some chopped brisket for Christmas dinner from Elmers. They just reopened in a different location this past week. The brisket is fantastic and the mixed sweet/spicy bbq sauce was very good! We will definitely be back! read more

Great food, great prices, great service. A very personable, quaint little place to casually eat barbeque with friends, family. Casual and easy. The green beans side dish is really delicious. Cannot say enough positive things about the attentiveness of the service we received, while choosing our menu items - a lot of pride is evident in this restaurant. Definitely check it out if you're in the mood for casual, easy, quaint, local barbeque! read more

We had Keith at Elmer's smoke us a whole brisket for the Oklahoma / Texas game. We had about 25 people over and everyone agreed it was probably the best brisket we had ever had. Keith was 100% all about customer service and was great to work with. Thanks Elmer's. You have a new customer for life! read more

Let's be honest. Tulsa does not have great BBQ. If you're from Texas and you drive north you're going to be disappointed. Fortunately, Elmers does exist and it offers some of the better BBQ in the city. I put this about par with Big Anthony's another one of the city's better BBQ joints. Neither are going to blow your socks off but are the best you're going to find around here. Elmer's is a place that offers a comfortable experience and what seems like a complete family atmosphere. While I'm not a 100% sure it seems like some of the family's kids were servers, the parents ran the place and grandma was in the back cooking. You'll find excellent service. We did what we always do when we eat barbecue and that's order far more than we can eat just so we can try everything. Smoked sausage isn't normally my favorite meat however they do a very good job with theirs here by adding a little bit of a bite to it. It's not spicy but definitely has a kick, which brings a lot of flavor to the sausage. The brisket did not have a lot of flavor but it was tender and didn't have any fat on it. The pulled pork was better than we expected. Rather than dry like it normally is it was very moist and brought plenty of flavor with it. We also tried the turkey and it was pretty good. It was fairly moist and something we'd order again. They offer three different BBQ sauces here and make sure you know that these are BBQ sauces and not ketchup and mustard. For example, the red bottle is their spicy barbecue sauce not ketchup. The yellow isn't mustard rather a mix of their spicy and their regular. Meanwhile, it's not spicy at all. The white top is a regular and somewhat sweet sauce but it has a completely different flavor than you've ever tasted at a barbecue restaurant. Try to figure out what it is. The owner told us but it's not something you'd find in any BBQ restaurant rather an ingredient that most people use to cook desserts. As for the sides they're pretty average too. We tried the baked beans which were brown sugar based and the corn. Fortunately, they don't douse the corn and butter before they give it to you. The Texas toast that comes with the meals is simply white bread that's toasted. And the coleslaw isn't bad either. They don't have many desserts on the menu which is uncommon for a barbecue place. We ordered the peach cobbler and it was clear that the peaches work and rather than fresh. Meanwhile most people wouldn't even notice this. In short, if you're looking for BBQ this is going to be one of your better options in Tulsa. read more

Visiting friends in Tulsa for the weekend and this is the first place we stopped at. Being lovers of bbq, had to try the acclaimed best bbq. We got the badwich which is a combination of different meats that comes with texas toast. I loved the chopped beef, sausages(regular and hot), and bologna. The bbq sauces were great, especially red bottle one. I was disappointed in the rib, which was a bit dry and that was the big reason making this a 4-star instead of 5. We also got green beans and fried okra for sides, which were delicious. Would definitely recommend! read more

Probably the best BBQ joint in Tulsa. The first place I ever had BBQ/smoked bologna and the only place that I feel really does it right. Nothing is over seasoned, allowing the smoke and natural meat flavors to come through. Sauce is always on the side, stick with the mixed or hot, sweet is just too sweet. First time visitors NEED to order the Badwich, which while advertised by as a sandwich, really is more of a plentiful helping of meat (bologna, hot link, brisket and rib), with some bread and two sides. This will allow you to appreciate Elmer's to the its full extent. I've been back for dinner or lunch (getting the bologna sandwich) and have even used them for some catering. All sides are pretty good as well. Green beans and baked beans both of nice chunks of meat in them. Potato salad is an interesting take in that it is mashed. I don't eat coleslaw so I can't review that. Corn on the cob is available for those who don't want meat in their vegetables, but if that's the type of person you are you shouldn't be going here. Service is also friendly and fast, especially now that all orders and payment are done through a smart pad like interface. read more

Had the pulled pork bbq sandwich and the potato salad! Excellent choices! Their bbq sauce is absolutely incredible! And the pork was perfection. Friendly staff and very attentive! Definitely worth the stop! read more

Nom. Came here for lunch on a weekday afternoon. It was pretty busy (but I think that was because a LivingSocial deal was ending). There was only 1 waitress taking orders, but she was good and really nice. We got the Nelson plate, which had 6 different meats, Texas toast, and 2 sides - we got the potato salad and beans. Everything was really good (dare i say, better than Burn Co?!). The potato salad isn't the typical pieces of potato. It's more like a mashed potato salad, which was a nice change. read more

The food was spectaculer! I waited a almost two years to eat at this place. The first time we were in Tulsa the resturant was closed for a family emergency. On our last trip to Texas we were able to dine here. The service wasn't the best but again they were pretty busy. My husband had the "Badwich", a mixed sampling of ribs, chopped beef, smoked bologna, hot links or smoked sausage . The kids and I shared a Chopped Pork Sandwich. I like a sweet sauce while this one was smokey but it was still good as were the sides. I tried the green beans with rib chunks and the sweet and crunchy cole slaw. If you should ever find yourself driving thru the area, I highly recommend that you stop here for a meal. You will not be disapointed. read more

Elmer's BBQ - .. and bad (I mean good) it was!! - Barbeque Near Me - Tulsa, Oklahoma

Food was wonderful! Food was excellent! Service was top-notch! Loved the atmosphere with the Memphis blues theme!

1st stop for my foodfest t-town of 2011...Best BBQ in town! Seriously #1 BBQ I've ever had. The chopped beef, chopped pork, rib, and sausage are ridiculous. The BBQ sauces are so good you might be tempted to sneak a bottle under your shirt...they will never know b/c your belly will be twice it's size when you leave anyway. Great friendly service and great blues music make you feel right at home...well a good southern BBQ home. It's always a must on the list when I come to town and it never be bad :) read more

It's been several years since I've been in to get Elmer's BBQ. I want to say that I'm definitely glad I stopped by to get some today. The people were friendly and quick to accommodate and it didn't take long to get my food. The smoke flavor is awesome!!! read more

We ordered a half rack of ribs a few days ago that I was honest to God, blown away by. The quality of the meat was fantastic, and the scent of smoke lingered into my house every time one was reheated. (One was later added to a pot of beans.) Their corn on the cob is SWEET thank you, Lord Jesus. The first time I tried their mild barbecue sauce - the flavor straight punched me in the face and I blacked out and saw an angel. read more

Looks like they have reopened just north of their old location. Looking forward to getting some Q when I am in Tulsa in November.

Two stars because our waitress was so nice. Two of us ate for $35. The meat is not flavorful. The best part of mine was the coleslaw and his was smoked sausage. The ribs were like eating beef jerky. The green beans were just funky. My husband ordered a sandwich because of the yummy menu pic. It wasn't a sandwich. It was all the meat with a side of bread. It didn't resemble the picture at all. All the chairs are duct taped on the seat and the floor looks dirty. My husbands chair had a piece of meat on it so he sat in the other chair. Our napkin dispenser ran out of napkins. The table had grease marks still on it too. So I don't think they really pay attention to cleanliness. I know this review sounds bad, but it is 100% truthful. Our dogs will eat our leftovers. read more

Talk about great bbq holly crap

their slogan is "It be bad" and it is. I can't think of a better BBQ place in tulsa. Try the BadWich, smoked brisket, bologna, and hot links on a sandwich with 2 sides and a rib. Make sure you have an hour for lunch because the place isn't quick but only real down fall is the parking lot is very small so make sure to carpool to have a chance. Pretty sure there are more tables inside than car spots outside. Bumped it down to a 4 star. still good food read more

Thanks to Yelp I was 4/4 discovering awesome spots. Elmer's BBQ was my third stop. In Texas barbecue is a religion, so I was not sure what to think of Elmer's. The reviews on Yelp are mixed. I ate lunch and was drawn to the nationally famous Badwich. The barbecue sauce is unlike anything I have had before. It is sweet and had a hint of what I believe is cinnamon. I have never had a finer sauce outside of Texas. It was so good I bought a bottle to take back home. This sandwich (and sauce) is awesome, and I plan to be back soon. read more

Wow. That's all I can say because I'm so sick from plowing through the best barbecue in Tulsa (Elmers, obviously). So I sampled a little of everything: Short End Ribs- some of the best meat ever. It was so tender the only word I can think of to describe it is buttery. Mmmmm.... butter. Bologna- I'm not a huge bologna person, but it was good. Smoked Sausage- the most amazing sausage I've ever had. I couldn't stop eating it. Green Beans- cooked with rib meat. Seriously. Baked Beans- had a lot of brown sugar or something equally tasty and sweet. Potato Salad- tasted like cold mashed potatoes with a spicy kick at the end. And of course texas toast. They offered three different kinds of sauces: hot, sweet and mixed. I got a little of each, and they were all incredible. I couldn't decide which one I liked best they were so good. A nice feature was the drive thru window for pick up orders. Everyone knows the best way to eat barbecue is in your pajamas, and now you don't have to even leave your car. I can't wait to go to Elmer's again, but it will probably be awhile. I ate so much I don't think I can eat again for at least a week. read more

I was deeply saddened by my food today. I say this with a heavy heart and hope that this was just a one off experience and that the food will improve. I had the World Famous Badwich. I've eaten a lot of BBQ and can say without a doubt the ribs were the most under-cooked ribs I've EVER had. I thought I was going to have to make a Dentist appointment after trying to pull the meat off the bone and I'm not insured. Thanks Obama. The Sandwich was just OK. The hotlink was over done or had been out for some time and was very tough. The brisket and Bologna were good and covered in sauce it was acceptable but the rest of the meal really dragged down the experience. I hate to put the death knell in Elmer's but with so many great places to get BBQ in this town it's not worth the drive anymore to eat here. Step up your game guys or this might be the end. read more

In a world of chain restaurants welcome to down-home barbecue in Tulsa Oklahoma. Elmer's is a classic and one of a kind. My wife and I have the Nelson's Platter for 2: ribs, chopped beef, pulled pork, hotlinks, sausage and bologna! Add two sides, pickles, onions and Texas toast and you have a feast with leftovers. Make your own BadWich with this deal! This ribs were perfect this night, just the right amount of tenderness while still holding to the bone. Pulled pork was great with a mix of sweet and hot sauces. Great baked beans loaded with burnt ends. Elmers is the top BBQ in Tulsa. read more

This place is more than AMAZING! Our first time visiting Tulsa and we stumbled upon this gem! The place is very nostalgic, a beautiful old piano stood against a wall and I assume most of the decor has not changed in ages. Nice jazz was playing in the background and when we explained to our very sweet server this was our first time having BBQ in Tulsa, she was more than happy to go over the menu and make recommendations. We had a large meat platter for 2, which included to die for ribs, chopped beef, a nice smoky sausage and of course their famous bologna. We also had homemade potato salad and baked beans. The meat was spectacular, and we had 3 delicious sauces to chose from at our table; sweet, original or spicy, all were soooooo good! I loved the potato salad, it was indeed homemade and i wanted to lick the bowl. My boyfriend loved the baked beans, said he'd never had any so good! Oh, and they have a pickle bar :) If you are in Tulsa, you most try Elmer's, I promise it will be an incredible experience for your taste buds. Hands down the best BBQ I've ever had in my 40 something years on this earth. I only wish they delivered to Iowa. read more
