This restaurant was recommended by the owner's sister's best friend...I know, that's a mouthful! She found out I was going to Paris and told me about this restaurant and it's sister property. Because of the late dare, I was only able to get a reservation at 9:30 on Saturday night. My original reservation for three grew to five and they were able to confirm the new party easily. Not knowing what to expect, we ordered several things to share. We started with the beef cheeks which came in the most interesting presentation I've ever seen, like a slice out of a loaf of bread. It had good flavor but was cold. The next dish was the burrata figs. From the very first bite, it was bursting with flavor. We immediately ordered a second one. Then came the buttermilk fried chicken. So I typically avoid ordering chicken in restaurants but I'm a sucker for fried chicken. This has to be the most delicious, juicy fried chicken I've ever had, made more delicious by the buttermilk dressing to dip it in. Again, we immediately ordered a second plate. Next up was the beef tartare. Now, you can get tartare everywhere in Paris and most are decent. This tartare was special! I could have eaten the whole dish myself. It had the right anoint of everything. The next dish was the risotto with bone marrow. Very tasty but the stars of the show were the burrata, fried chicken and tartare. This is a really good place for a small-plates brunch. We made reservations (online) for a 1pm meal on a Sunday. We ordered 3 plates to share between two of us, which ended up being perfect because we were hungry, but not famished. The buttermilk fried chicken was actually very good (and boneless, which makes it easy to eat...but doesn't that make it more of a chicken tender?). We also had the lamb meatballs in a tomato sauce, which was nice and light. My favorite was the yeast waffle with foie gras. I love me a savory waffle and it was nice and crispy. This place is quaint and a bit hard to find, it was a bit too cozy for my liking but I enjoyed the experience. The waiter/waitress recommended we (3 friends) choose six things from the menu as it was a tapas style atmosphere. We were there for the experience and the high ratings but just left more hungry. Although some of it was delicious, other parts were lacking. The Heirloom Tomato Salad, which f/ watermelon Ricotta and basil was delicious but because I was splitting it with 2 other people, I was left wanting more. The bone marrow platter could've stayed in or on the pig they got it from, that did absolutely nothing for my stomach or my taste buds. The fried chicken was scrumptious, piping hot and moist. The tuna, cucumber and seaweed was refreshing and the duck breast was also cooked well but just not enough. I don't know if it was the excessive walking or just excitement to try new things but we ended up at a creperie after we left here because we just weren't full. AH-MAZINGG. The wait staff here at this restaurant is extremely friendly and great. We came at the perfect time because two seats at the bar just opened up and we were able to sit there. If those seats hadn't opened up, we basically wouldn't have been able to get a table unless we had reservations so I highly recommend making reservations because you're definitely going to want to hit this spot up for brunch/lunch in Paris. The waiter recommended three plates for the two of us to share, so we ordered the fried chicken, french toast, and scrambled eggs. I honestly didn't know which plate was better. Probably one of the top meals that I've had during my stay! The french toast had the perfect balance of sweetness-- not too sweet or overpowering. The fried chicken was super moist, yet crispy, AND the homemade pickles had just the right amount of vinegary-ness. Lastly, the scrambled eggs were super creamy and essentially melted in your mouth. We also ordered mimosas which were essentially champagne with a space of fresh squeezed orange juice (which in america, the ratio is usually the other way around). We loved the brunch we had at Ellsworth! We'd previously been to Verjus during another trip to Paris and were excited to try their other restaurant. Ellsworth's bright and clean dining room was a wonderful place to spend a cold Sunday morning. We ordered all the dishes on the menu for our group of 6 and had many mimosas and coffees. The "American" style brunch felt very French in its execution, but American in its ingredients and preparations. Our favorite dishes included the doughnuts with caramel sauce, the fried chicken !!, pancakes with berries and the scrambled eggs (is there anything better than French scrambled eggs?!). We thoroughly enjoyed everything and joked about going back for another meal. We didn't end up getting the dessert, because we were so full but we had heard good things. Fantastic new restaurant on Richelieu. I stopped the bar here a few nights ago and then a sit-down dinner the next night. The small plates are tasty and well-portioned! One of mine was the beef tongue which, according to my dining companion, is a traditional British dish (in theory a Brit should know). The preparation at Ellsworth isn't so traditional - it has flowers and pork cracklin I think. We both agreed it was great. Nice selection of wine and the service is upbeat and friendly. Several top choices in this neighborhood - Verjus, Juveniles, Caveau on Montpensier (cocktails), Telescope (coffee) and now Ellsworth make this part the city a destination for great cuisine and drinks, incomparable service and a welcoming atmosphere. We've been in Paris for a week (from California) and Ellsworth is easily at the top of the list of restaurants where we have eaten. Though most people in the restaurant were local, the staff were kind enough to speak English to us and help us with the menu. We ordered four of the small plates and then the cheese plate. Each dish was an inventive mix of seasonal ingredients and delicious flavors. The staff were attentive and gracious. The interior has a cozy feeling. The owners are excellent Chefs and also own Verjus a very popular restaurant. I've had their food in different venues, and I have to say, I was really disappointed with Ellsworth. I'm a stickler for the dining experience being about the "whole" experience, from the time you make the reservations until you leave. I love their online booking system, so you can book any time you want. Thumbs up to them on this simple technology. The one of many problems we had was the noise level. The restaurant was not at full capacity, but our friend had a decibel measuring device and it reached as high as 95 (db). They also had piped in music which did not help. Now onto the food. We unanimously did not like the entrées or the plats. The broccoli had a strange bitter taste, the ganache of foie gras, their creation had an off putting texture. As for their main dishes, although the chicken was perfectly fried and crunchy, the meat was beyond salty, probably from the brining, which made me thirsty the rest of the day. The pasta dish was gummy and rubbery. However, the desserts were perfection. The beignets were to die for, as well as the ice creams. But for some of us, desserts do not make a meal. NOTE: Now this is the part that really annoyed me. They asked us to keep our utensils after our entrée course. I find this practice insulting. Get a damn dishwasher! read more

American chef cooking French-style? Fuck yeah! Came here for brunch on a Sunday pre-Lourve and it was absolutely delightful! The restaurant is bright and the food is unbelievable! We had a foie gras waffle that blew my mind. We had eggs with pesto and crispy mushrooms that were PERFECTLY scrambled French style - they were seriously the best scrambled eggs I've ever had in my life. Also the eggs benny was just superb. You will not have a single dish that wasn't perfectly cooked with perfectly balanced flavors at this restaurant. Go here post or pre Lourve and you will be very very satisfied. Made reservation prior to arriving in Paris coz my wife loves fried chicken. Our day ended early so we took a chance if they have a spare table earlier than our reserved time. Thankfully they had because we were tired of walking. Servers/hostess were all great and friendly. We ordered the fried chicken (obviously), the pork terrine and green beans to start and sole fish as mains to share. For dessert was the strawberries. The fried chicken was sooo good. Breading was similar to kfc but the meat was so tender and juicy. The pork terrine was also good when you eat it with everything in one bite. I didn't know the green beans would be cold but it is good the flavors blend well. Sole fish was great as well wished it was completely deboned. I loved the onions it came with. The strawberry dessert was perfect ending for the meal. Sweet strawberries without any hint of sourness that I have frowned accustomed to when eating it back home. So delicious!!! I'm considering going back to this restaurant in the next three days while I'm here in Paris. We had the Chicken liver parfait, shrimp, fried chicken, burrata, and the butterscotch creme brûlée. The chicken liver parfait was def my favorite!! Fried chicken is all of the rave but it was good but not amazing. However, being from the south brings you the best fried chicken in the world so I'm a little spoiled on that. Cocktails aren't really their thing so you won't get any boozy fancy cocktails with dinner if you're okay with that. Ellsworth was the bomb all around from service, ambiance, and food. read more

This was the best meal we had while in Europe. We popped in at 9pm without a reservation and although they didn't have room in the dining room we happily sat at the cozy bar for dinner. This place reminds me of NYC restaurants; although small in size it was very chic, dimly lit, comfortable and approachable. For food we ordered the asparagus, and a salad. The asparagus was topped with a green sauce and dusting of cheese. My husband said it's the best he's ever had. He got the salad and we both got an order of the fried chicken. I was worried one order wouldn't be enough for me, but it was boneless, all white meat and cooked to perfection; deliciously crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I finished mine and the last of his. We ordered the chocolate lava cake for dessert and asked for the ice cream on the side. The cake came with the ice cream on top, and they placed another dish of ice cream in front of my husband. We initially thought they just messed up the placement of the ice cream, but we later learned that the second bowl was actually an entirely different dessert dish they had accidentally brought us. And thank goodness for the mistake because my husband said it was incredible. I think it was chocolate sorbet and vanilla ice cream with warm malt poured over all on top of crunchy gram cracker balls. I moved the ice cream off of mine and he was in heaven. Win/win. Sunday Brunch in Paris doesn't get much better than here. Yes, you need a reservation in advance but that is super easy to setup online with a little advanced planning. The menu has some classics like eggs benedict and such but with their own twist. My favorites included their fried chicken bites over a slaw and also the pancakes with bacon jam. Ellsworth is definitely a restaurant not to be missed. It is a tapas wine bar, but the food is excellent and the variety of wines is good. Our service was wonderful. They have menus in English, as well as French, and are friendly to English speaking guests. The restaurant is small, so reservations are a good idea. We lucked out because we did not have a reservation, but it was a rainy night, so it may not have been as crowded as usual. Even so, it was close to capacity. The fried chicken is as good as all of the other reviewers have claimed. The heirloom tomatoes with cheese was very good, as were the other tapas we ordered. The small tables can be pulled together to accommodate groups, but a reservation for groups is definitely necessary. I recommend Ellsworth. read more

I only do Yelp reviews when an establishment is exceptionally good (or exceptionally bad). I'm a huge fan of Verjus and Ellsworth equally was amazing if not more.
