    Le Porte Pot
    Erik D.

I first discovered Le Porte Pot when visiting Paris in the spring of 2017, tempted in by the many positive reviews and proximity to where we were staying. I think before I'd even finished my fois gras starter, I'd already struck up a conversation about bourbon with Nicolas, the owner. He and his lovely wife Valentine have since become very good friends, and I always make a point of spending an evening or three at Le Porte Pot every time I'm in Paris (which has become an annual thing). Between my parents and I, we've eaten our way through most of the menu over the course of multiple visits, and you will find a good share of French classics as well as interesting specials. Memorable highlights include the bone marrow and a lamb meatball that I enjoyed a year ago, as well as the steak tartare and hearty wild boar stew I had when I was there back in June. There are always numerous wines available by the glass, but Nicolas will also be very happy to recommend a bottle from his very thoughtful selection. Naturally, he knows most of the winemakers personally, and is a strong proponent of bio and natural wines. He also has quite an interesting variety of spirits on hand, should your evening at Le Porte Pot stretch on into the night as mine often do. If you spot a bottle of Green Hat gin still up there, that was one I brought him this past spring (we've gotten into the routine of exchanging interesting bottles each year). As for the overall atmosphere, it's a wonderfully friendly and laid back place. Some evenings feature live music -- follow Le Porte Pot on Facebook for more information on that. Each time I've been since my first time a few years ago, I always wind up making new friends, with Nicolas introducing me to his friends and regulars. I have also directed several of my own friends who were visiting Paris to stop by, and all have raved about the great welcome and wonderful evening they had courtesy of Nicolas and Valentine. Though Le Porte Pot is located in a very touristy area, do yourself a favor, skip the crappy establishments along Rue de la Huchette or Rue Saint-Séverin, and instead make a beeline for this place. Start up a conversation with Nicolas, Valentine or Manu behind the bar. Have some wine. Have some food. Have some more and just enjoy the night. You won't regret it, I assure you.

Another Yelp find in Paris. We were nearby and it got great reviews, so we stopped and did a sniff test. Our noses liked what they smelled and we decided to dine in. We weren't the only Americans who found it on Yelp, either. There were like, some like awesome Californians like totally sitting at the next table. It was like so amazing bro! Like for real. It's actually funny after you get used to hearing French how easy it is to not only pick out fellow Americans, but to pick out where they are from instantly. It was even easier than at home because they were isolated. You also blatantly hear how many times Cali folks throw the word LIKE into sentences. The place itself was nice. It was a cool old building with nice décor. We met the owner and a really sweet girl behind the bar. That poor girl was hustling all night. It was a bit warm in there, but they had a couple of fans going and it was uncharacteristically warm the week we were there. The food was quite tasty. I had the baked Camembert with honey to start and the mustard pork filets with mashed potatoes. My wife had the escargot (again! but it is Paris, you know?) and the salmon with potatoes & veggie. We both liked our meals and enjoyed our time here. The staff was friendly and helpful. The prices were nice. We'd eat here again.

We were looking for a casual restaurant that was walking distance from our hotel in the Latin Quarter to celebrate my birthday, and I'm glad we found this place! Pros: - excellent food - friendly staff - good service - provide menus in both French and English Cons: Just one that can't really be helped: place is quite small (although quaint and lovely atmosphere) so seating fills up quickly - something to note if you plan on coming here on a busy night! :o)

This was an excellent meal with a lovely atmosphere. They had a jazz group playing that was very enjoyable. They were playing at good volume, not too loud. The waiter put a menu written on a board behind our table on a hook for us to read. Which was a bit unusual. We ordered a camembert appetizer, which came melted with bread. I had camembert a few times in France and will certainly crave it back in America. I often find some traveling and eating delicious food I eventually desperately need some vegetables. We ordered the veggie salad with carrots, tomatoes, and more that really hit the spot. I ordered the rabbit special in mustard sauce that came with rice and more greens. The mustard sauce was perfect. I was very happy when the waiter also brought over additional bread to soak up the sauce. The rice and salad were average.

Oh my GOSH! This restaurant is amazing! My daughter and I went to Le Porte Pot thinking it was going to be just a normal Parisian restaurant, but it was AMAZING! It's a small space with about 8 tables. We were seated right away at a high top for two right next to the piano. They had games for me and my daughter to play such as Connect 4 and Stratego, which were in French but we knew how to play. There was one waiter and one waitress who helped us. They were both French (obviously) and spoke English. We were offered menus in French and English. The menus were hand written with chalk on slates. They had a restroom downstairs, which was also where they were hosting a private party. The music didn't bother us at all. We got the Tomato, Mozzarella and Cucumber for our appetizer. I really enjoyed that dish, my daughter did, but not the cucumber (which is her personal dislike). For our main courses I chose the Chicken Cordon Bleu, let me just say it was delicious. The chicken was crispy on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside. It came with fries and a small salad. My daughter got the Skirt Steak and loved it. The steak was amazing and juicy. This dish also came with caramelized onions on top and also fries and a small salad. Of course, there was always a basket with fresh French bread. I had a small glass of Chardonnay that the waitress recommended and I enjoyed. We were both so full so there was no room for dessert. If you are in the Latin quarter, I highly recommend this place. Bon Appetit!

Solid first dinner in Paris! I loved the ambiance of this restaurant. While it's tucked away on a smaller street and doesn't have any outdoor seating, the interior is super cozy. The waitress helping us was so patient and happy to explain everything on the menu. We LOVED the foie gras and escargot starters..I could eat that stuff endlessly. I had the crusted ahi tuna as an entree - it was slightly overcooked but still good! The crust was an excellent touch to the seared tuna. I sampled my friend's duck and it was delicious and done right! This meal gave a great first impression of French cuisine.

duck, cooked medium. also comes with mashed potatoes and a salad!

My friend and I happened to come across this place while scrolling through yelp, hoping to find an affordable restaurant near our airbnb. We arrived around 8:30pm on a weekday and were immediately seated at a high top. Both the waiter and the waitress were extremely friendly and fluent in English. We were also given menus in both French and English, which was helpful considering neither my friend nor I spoke any French. My friend ordered the chicken cordon bleu while I decided on the duck (cooked medium, though this may be adjusted according to personal preference). Both meats were perfectly juicy and flavorful. Though I don't usually order duck at restaurants, this dish has made me reconsider my life choices. At the end of the meal, we were so full that neither of us were able to try the desserts. The total for both dishes and two glasses of house white wine was 42 euros, which we considered to be very affordable compared to many of the restaurants in Paris. Definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area!

This restaurant was the first dinner in our Paris trip. We were lucky enough to call and grab a late night reservation. I started with the escargots and my friend started with the bone marrow. I loved the escargot and they were deliciously seasoned, I can't say I tried the bone marrow as the smell was a bit off putting. My friend liked it so that's that. I had the cordon blue which was good, it wasn't mouth dropping but it was a decent meal. Overall, a safe choice with good service. The waitress spoke English and they did have a vast array of delicious wine.

The perfect French bistro experience. We went on a Thursday and there was live jazz and singing music from the most talented 6 piece band. We had the steak frites and duck dish which were all fabulous. The bill for 3 people with wine was under $60 euros which is a steal for Paris. Yelp strike again for another gem of a find. I can't wait to be back!

Sadly we were disappointed with the food, the vulgar rap music. Ambiance was fine, waiter was fine

We passed by this charming bistro on our way to a different restaurant. But that restaurant turned out to be closed so we decided to have dinner here instead. A fortunate thing as the food here was excellent. And the host was very friendly and we enjoyed his funny quips as well as the lovely atmosphere. The wine list is short but you can't go wrong with any. We had a carafe of a local red and had beef tartare and quail. It was delicious. And quite memorable that I would totally go back for the sake of reliving our first time in Paris.

We chose this restaurant based on recent Yelp reviews. They carry an excellent selection of wines - especially local French wines. The staff was helpful and accommodating. As Americans, we found that attempting to converse in French really helps make the interaction with wait staff so very pleasant. So try to make the effort! This restaurant features local farm to table ingredients and homemade pasta! I'm attaching a photo of the carbonara pasta. I've never had this dish prepared so flavorfully, and doubt I will again...until our next visit!

On the other hand, it made me realize that my mother was a terrible cook. Bistro des Augustins is a small, cozy venue offering both indoor seating and terrace seating near Pont Neuf. It serves a small number of curated dishes, including a wonderfully traditional Bistro Gratin in a homey ceramic dish served piping hot with a brown crispy cheesy top, herbs, spices and chicken. You can also get it with salmon. My brothers and I only saw my mother use our gas range to light her cigarettes, sanitize needles to remove our splinters, and make s'mores during the summer months when she couldn't muster the energy to take us 'outside camping.' I mean, all she had to do was borrow a cookbook, which I'm sure were readily available from maybe a neighbor or in any local bookstore or the public library. How hard is that? I was the only kid who brought a can of tuna and his own monogrammed can opener to school every day. Every day. And mom convinced me that the tuna holster she got me for my birthday was cool and hip. I was a naive mercury-filled fool, although I did become a very fast runner in junior high school because of the tuna holster. The interior décor of Bistro des Augustins is informal and vintage bistro style - wooden tables, traditional chalkboard menus, and soft lighting - creating a relaxed and comfy ambiance. My eyes have been opened to what's possible. Thank you Bistro des Augustins for expanding my culinary horizons. Five stars.

THE FOOD ------------------…read more= Fermier - Cheese gratin with chicken was good. Didn't blow me away, but was solid with the creaminess of the sliced potatoes and emmental cheese combined together with mixed vegetables. The cheese was very strong though, so anything else was unfortunately pretty much overpowered by it. Arrived with bread, but it DEFINITELY could use other carb options to sop it all up (e.g., rice???)! = Landais - Cheese gratin with duck. Same comment as the above, except the Landais had egg and goat cheese also mixed in with almost the same ingredients as the Fermier. THE SERVICE ----------------------- + The lone waitress, who also worked the role as greeter, cashier and bartender was friendly. + Food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. THE SURROUNDINGS ------------------------------------ = Small, tight restaurant. = Not many tables inside - 6 in total. + Located a few blocks away from the more touristy restaurants, towards the East, on a much quieter street.
