Great, fun and quality selection of clothes! The owner is friendly - she is picky about what she'll take, but rightfully so.

I walked by this place many times, but never stopped in. Finally, I did. I got lost in the selection of clothing - not so much shoes, and there are some pretty cool and funky jewelry pieces as well. I got a few items with lines in the tag - meaning that depending on how many lines are on the price tag, there is a certain percentage off of the item. The guy that checked me out was not exactly on the cheery side, and seemed a little surly at first. But just before I left, he said to have a good day and sounded a little more happy. But I am enjoying the 3 tops and one ring I got there, so when I'm in the neighborhood again and have time, I will stop back in to see what other treasures may be lying in there. read more

I have been going to Elliot Consignment once every 2-3 weeks for the last 5 years. Without a doubt the best consignment store in the city of Chicago. I routinely find items that retail for hundreds of dollars higher than price paid at Elliot. If you like quality, awesome finds and great deals this is your spot. Its also a nice way to make a couple $ if you have nice clothes you dont want. I haven't written a review about this store because I try to keep it a secret. The owners are also just about the coolest people ever and really enjoy comedic banter. At the going rate I imagine they will extend a holiday invitation at some point - I am from out of town so this will be greatly appreciated. Lincoln Park location is also excellent. read more

The clothes have high turnaround, and are good quality. For sellers, they accept brands like J Crew, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, DVF, Burberry, etc. They accept and sell work attire. I LOVE Elliott's. I rarely leave empty handed. Found an incredible, barely used Burberry trench, never worn Jimmy Choos, and other incredible finds... It really cannot be compared to places like Plato's closet or Crossroads. Plus, it is a family run business, which I would much rather support than a larger chain! Mrs. Elliott in LP has always been AMAZING -- she is so sweet and recently stayed late and never mentioned that I was keeping her there past hours (I thought the LP store closed at 7, not 6 on weekdays!) - she even mentioned that I should always stop in if the lights are on, even if after hours. The son who runs the Lakeview store is also super nice and relaxed... I really think Elliott's is a gem and I am so glad I stumbled upon it a few years back. read more

DEFINITELY the beginning of a beautiful friendship! A year later, I still like them very much as both consignor and buyer. I found a ton of great stuff at both the Lake View and Lincoln Park locations last time I was in the neighborhood. I bought one of my besties a gorgeous dress for Christmas at the Lincoln Park store last year. If you see something you like in there, don't hesitate like I did with the fabulous shoes last year---grab it! I'll never return again. I dropped off several items for consignment on 6/3/17 - the majority were out of season as I had gone through my closet and just got rid of things, which is my mistake. However, I had a few summer items that are Anthropologie pieces - sought after, high-end, stylish and expensive and never worn. I am VERY happy that they are not going to consign any of my items because when I picked them up they had literally stuffed them back into the bags. Balled up and stuffed into the bag. A $200 dress from Anthropologie was stuffed into a bag. I certainly would never go anywhere where they treat people's belongings with such disregard. Very unprofessional. read more

my experience is the opposite of a few other reviews... the staff was pretty friendly and the selection.... sweet. i didn't get to buy anything because my bf was getting girlstore-itis and was fidgeting a hole in the floor, but i caught so many good designer things when i am bf-less i will return. and different designers with unique styling. all clothing looked to be in really good shape. the prices weren't crazy cheap but really reasonable for the style, shape and brand. pretty killer finds overall and plenty of in season or timeless stuff. read more

I went there yesterday expecting some bargains. I didn't see any. The only thing I saw was a merino lambswool sweater for $20.00 but I didn't like the color. $40.00 for a Calvin Klein shirt that I can buy at Marshall's for less. I thought for used clothing the prices seemed high. There are better deals at Marshall's and TJ Maxx. The store is clean and organized. The clothing is tagged and priced. read more

I called ahead to ask about the type of items they were seeking. A young lady said they "start at J. Crew and go up from there." I brought in J. Crew dress shirts, Banana Republic trousers, suit separates, sweaters, and dress shirts, Ike Behr ties, Ralph Lauren dress shirts, Lacoste Polos, and even a brand new pair of dress shoes along with other high end brands. I brought in over 50 pieces, and they kept four. I was befuddled, as all my items were clean, some even dry-cleaned, and very little wear. I folded everything neatly and pressed items that were creased from a jammed closet. I came back to pick up the remaining items, and looking at the four they kept, I couldn't get a rhyme or reason as to why they selected the four they did. I asked if I could be contacted with an explanation so I could better understand what they're looking for, but haven't received any thing. My stuff matches the aesthetic of the things I saw in the store, but in the future, I won't make the effort to bring anything in. As a note, all my items were purchased within the last 2-3 years, were all dry-cleaned for routine care, and were sizes M/L, or 15-16 32/33-34/35. *In response to your reply below: I asked if the items needed to be hung, your associate said no. As I don't drive, I brought them in disposable bags for easy transport, and you even kept some of the items. If you require them to be hung, please specify such to your associates. Yes, the items were all purchased within the last 2-3 years. If you are so concerned about your small business, "bro," you should be more transparent in what your expectations are for merchandise. Additionally, your tone in your reply is defensive instead of professional. I kindly asked your associate to contact me about what I did wrong. I wanted to better understand their aesthetic so I would know if it were worth my time (and Elliott's) to try to bring in other items in the future. After a week, I heard nothing. I was not aware I needed to be a native Chicagoan in order to do business in your store. Your email to your clients begs for a Yelp review. I gave an honest account of my merchandise and experience. These sorts of forums are great to help clients better understand what to expect, and can be great feedback for small business owners trying to compete in a city this size. Hopefully, you will learn from this and make improvements in your communication. The two stars was due to an unsuccessful experience based on the expectations set by your employees and the failure to communicate or follow up in a timely manner. I've decided a one-star is more appropriate, though, based on your response. **After my response to the owner's reply, the owner edited his original response and sent me an email saying my items were available for pick up. The website clearly states the consignment agreement is for 90 days, but apparently can be nullified if you do not give a "positive review" as requested in their email. read more

REVIEW FROM SELLER! This is by far the best consignment store I've used to sell clothes in the city. Very easy to use, straightforward policies, friendly staff. I've been to places who seem to have the sole objective of tricking you out of your money or clothes with tricky policies and vague deadlines. Elliot seems to have a fail-proof system in place, even for those who don't remember to check on their items very often. And they are not snooty about what you bring in like some of the places I've been. They guy is totally easy to work with and talk to. I am rewriting a review I previously took down. After some thought, I decided I had to share the customer service experience with Elliot Consignment, and specifically the owner, Peter. I write this not to deter you from shopping there, as I am sure that their clients bring them great items. I am writing this to hopefully inspire an improvement in customer service and customer communication. Please also see my Yelp profile to see that I never post on Yelp, but I was so affected by this interaction I had to share. I'm a 'tip 20% even for bad service' girl, so I'm hard to rattle. Also, this post is coming MONTHS after the fact but my treatment has stuck with me this entire time, so I thought it was worth sharing. The first review I wrote was not eloquent by any means, I had not gotten the answers I wanted from Elliot about why all of my items were rejected, all I was told was that they were "worn and out of date." I requested more detail in our email correspondence, but got no detail. In the email I was sent, it linked right to their Yelp page asking for a review, and I gave my honest opinion. Later after seeing my review, Peter commented with in depth detail about the status of my items (one bag I hadn't emptied out, YIKES, that is ALL on me!!) I wish I had gotten that answer when I asked in private, but alas, I didn't get that information until it was used as retaliation to an honest opinion on Yelp. Peter also attached our email chain in the comment for the public to see. I was astounded and confused. I asked for details as to why these items were rejected, and got nothing. As soon as I post a review though, Peter was more than happy to give detail to Yelp as to why the items were rejected, when he had refused to give the detail to me. I assumed that our communications wouldn't be published, but when they were I immediately panicked and took the review down for fear of my name or email being public on Yelp. I do not know if Peter removed the email address and last name, I did not check. I was so concerned that my email address and name had been published that before I could even look, I deleted the review. I would never have guessed that my first experience with cyber bullying would have been on Yelp! I thought it would be on a different platform. I felt vulnerable and unheard by the business, hence my review, then I was humiliated publicly because the owner didn't like my honest opinion. I wish I had kept up the original review now, I think Peter's handling of the situation speaks volumes to his customer service philosophy, and less about me. After, that I sent him a long email explaining my astonishment, and my views as a business owner on customer service (even if the customer is wrong, you apologize, that is how we operate at least!). Rather than commenting on my customer service philosophy, I got a condescending "Congratulations on your Business!" I asked why I wasn't provided the details, I received no answer. I asked why I was told to leave items I thought wouldn't be accepted, I received no answer. While I would love to, I can't publish our emails for a few reasons.. 1) I would NEVER publish correspondence with someone without their permission, just not my style! If Peter would like them published, I am sure he will do so below. 2) After learning my lesson, I added a confidentiality notice to any of our further correspondence so many of them can't be published due to that clause that was added. (which I have added to my permanent signature now, Thanks for the lesson, Pete!) Should my items have been rejected? Some of them-definitely yes! Especially that purse full o makeup and tampons!! Should I have been treated with disrespect and my questions left unaswered? No. Should I have been Retaliated against and have my correspondence published without my consent? No. Should I have received condescending comments from the business owner? No. Elliot Consignment, if you are so inclined, please feel free to post our correspondence before the confidentiality notice kicks in, I would love for your customers to see where I asked for details about my items MULTIPLE TIMES, but never received it from you until after it was publically posted on Yelp. I also assume you will continue to slander me as you did in the first post. I have tougher skin now, so attack away! Thanks! read more

i have never been treated like such shit at a store. I went in and asked to look at one of the hand bags in the window. the sales man (after looking me up and down) decided to inform me that it was probably too expensive. i said its ok... i have money. for which he retorted that well they are very expensive - some as much as 400 dollars. i followed with yes... i know designers. i dont know if its because i was wearing sweatpants on a saturday morning.. or he was not able to see labels on my clothes. but what a jack ass. ive had bar tabs more expensive than their used louis vuitton bags... and even if i loved the bag in the window - i wouldnt have bought it just for the way i was treated! read more

I have never had a negative experience either buying or consigning at Elliott Consignment! I don't have any negative things to say as every time I have walked through the doors, someone on the staff has greeted me warmly, was respectful and never pushy, made sure I found everything I was shopping for that day, and answered any questions I had. This is truly the best place in the City of Chicago for buying and selling gently used, clean, well sorted and stocked, wide selection of high-end, designer clothing and accessories for men and women. I first starting visiting this store only to buy since I buy all my clothes and shoes at resale or consignment shops. I was amazed at the selection and quality of the items stocked in the store. I don't believe that i have ever been in the store and not bought anything (or at least talked whomever I was with into buying something for themselves if I didn't buy anything during that visit). As for the reported "steep" prices on the items, one has to be like other bargin shoppers and keep coming back to the store regularly to nab the coveted item when it has those three lines through the price tag so you can nab the item at 75% off! I can't tell you how many times I've walked out of the store having purchased really nice, clean, well made, designer clothes for under $10! The consigning process is just as memorable . . . . simply because the entire process is so easy and hassle free Just drop off your items and then the staff will send you an email stating what articles they will keep to consign and they give you a date as to how long they'll hold the items not chosen to be consigned and if you don''t come and get them they will donate them to an organizations that have resale stores to help fund services that otherwise would not be able to afford them. If your items sell it's a 50.50 split. The store itself is stocked full of great merchandise on both floors and the staff is incredibly helpful, warm, with just the right amount of attentiveness. This is the absolute best place in Chicago to get high end clothes at a good price. I've bought numerous suits and dress shirts at unreal prices. I don't live in Chicago anymore but I make sure to stop in every time I'm in town to find new deals because shopping here is better than anything I've found in any other city. Even when items don't fit, it is still cheaper to buy them here and then to get them tailored. If you have any reservations about buying something used, don't. Almost everything here is in perfect shape and I have never been able to tell the difference between the clothes I buy new at other stores and the ones I buy here. read more

I've had nothing but a pleasant shopping experience here! There is always a pleasing selection of clothing (especially for smaller women, lots of selection in size 2 and petites). I've bought several items here including a suit for job interviews-and I have been really happy! They give a 15% student discount, which is a nice bonus for any other broke students out there trying to build a professional wardrobe. I absolutely adore this store. My work wardrobe is composed of probably 90 percent clothing from Elliott in lakeview. I have a nice black wool suit by JCrew that I found for $60 in perfect condition (the pockets hadn't even been opened yet), I have several pairs of nice wool slacks for around $20, etc. It can be a little bit overpriced at times for my budget--yes, it's marked down 50-75% from the brand new retail price, but that still means a dolce and gabbana suit is going to be $500 or so. However I definitely think the pricing is fair considering the quality and condition of the clothing; I've never found anything that had any sort of hole or fraying or other issues. It really feels like you're purchasing clothing brand new, just for an incredible discount from the original price. read more

Wow, really? So unprofessional. Dropped off a nice jacket last October. Interesting enough, I had to check back twice to see if it sold. And when it did, they never notified me. (Maybe if they're lucky, you'll forget about it) And when they finally told me how much it sold for, they asked me "Would you like us to mail your check?" I responded the SAME DAY and said yes, please send it to this (specific) address. That was exactly A MONTH ago. Where's my check, guys? read more

They never pick up phone, on occasion return emails and email you explicitly stating they are mailing a check to you tomorrow and 11 days later it still has not arrived. I have had similar experiences. I brought in a bunch of clothes and it took forever to sort them out. I waited for at least 20 minutes while the clerk was on the phone. She took all my stuff and categorized it. But then, told me it was not worth much, so I should take it back. These were designer labels and Dior shoes. Eventually, i just took my stuff back because she was so disinterested in my stuff. read more

I had a very bad experience selling through the Broadway store. After four months of being told my items were not selling, I called their bluff and asked to see the items I was selling. I asked on a Monday if anything had sold and was told no. Miraculously, when I called their bluff two days later a half dozen things had sold. Even though they gave me proceeds, I now question whether the amounts were even correct. Just keep an eye on what you are putting on consignment.
