Selection is interesting for "more mature" patrons but overall is not especially well-curated. The store overall, though, is not very welcoming on account of its apparent extreme paranoia about shoplifting. There are tons and tons of cameras around the store, all advertised by old TVs propped up at several places. They also want patrons to check their bags at the front before shopping, though the enforcement on this seems to have really waned so maybe they have relaxed. Also signage about how shoplifting is a crime, you're on camera, etc. I had not the faintest intention of ever shoplifting from here but I still worried that I would be falsely accused just by brushing past the jewelry or whatever. They should simply use a magnetic tagging system on the clothes rather than this panoptic weirdness. read more

Arrived and immediately liked a shirt. Took a pic. I think it's the owner! Cold as ice. I was ready to drop some coin. He walks up and with a disgusted face says we're closing. We close at 4. It was 3:56. I'd been there 5 minutes. I can shop fast. Ask anyone. So I leave. Then when I double back 8 minutes later - people are walking IN. Again-he is RUDE TO ME - and so here's my reply. I was in the area getting a quick bite across the street and saw they were still open. So what the hell, I figured I'd take a look. Consignment shopping isn't high on my list, shopping isn't for that matter. Used stuff is pretty much a miss for me. I'll admit to being sort of OCD so when I go to resale places I look for things with tags on or purses and belts, etc. Perhaps I'm a snob when it comes to this, however when you enter a business, and you happen to be the only one there, the least they can do is acknowledge your presence, there was no hello, no are you looking for something, oh wait...she didn't even make eye contact with me as I approached the end of the racks close to the desk in back. I know I could speak up and say hello, I almost did. But then I wanted to see if and how long before she would say something, anything. I also was struck by some of the pricing, a bit on the high side. Although, I did spot a dress with store tag on it, unworn and in my size. It was at a price point that I'd consider if I was acknowledged, because it was also one of those pieces specifically for a party so I didn't really need it, it also looked like there might be a further markdown due to a red line drawn through the price. This would have be a good opportunity to say something to me, maybe that's on clearance, so much more off, or do you want to try that on? Nothing. I was lingering over it, perhaps she didn't notice not paying attention to me. I walked past a sign saying something about more stuff downstairs, that was marked down. I was going to check it out, but about at this time after walking up and down every aisle a couple of times and then lingering by the front door, I decided that I didn't want to give them any of my hard earned money. I used to be in retail sales years ago, everything from clothes to office equipment, first rule was to acknowledge the potential customer. A customer is a buyer, a consumer is a looker, we're all consumers of goods. If I'm going to be a customer, you need to acknowledge that I walked in. I heard from someone that this was the place to check out...not someone I know close but someone who was talking loudly about it to someone else. So as I walked down the street I decided to go in and check it out. My first impressions was the smell...I am sorry to say it but you know that old dirty clothes smell. It was kind of a turnoff...I actually wanted to make me leave but we were looking for something for my wife. I checked out some of the prices on the jeans and was a little shocked at the $60 to $100 price range. These people know that these items are used. Personally I do not really know the difference between what jeans cost...I am happy with a $35 pair of Levi's! We found the item that we were looking for and asked the girl working how much it was. She then told us that it had not been priced yet and to call back later. I was like okay. I was a little surprised that I had to grab my own business card from the counter and say, "Is this the phone number?" She said yes and then I said, "When should I call back? who do I ask for? and How do I tell that person what item I want?" Honestly it seemed like a hassle right now. I would have been happy if she had offered to call us back with the info. I had no idea the Consignment Business was doing so well that they would trust me to call back. It is now day 2 and I still haven't called to find out that price. I wanted to do it but I do not have the motivation now to give them my money. I will also make a note that the person working was helping the owner out but I really did not find it helpful to me at the end of the day. The owner might have been better off to lock the door and put a note up that they would be back in two hours. I trusted the word on the street to check this place out...I did and I was not that impressed. It was my distinct pleasure to shop there today. I ran out of my house today so my housekeeper could work without me underfoot. I am so frustrated with myself. I pass by almost daily but finally went in person. I did not know the person helping me was the owner's wife. She was so gracious and welcoming that it took me by surprise that she's the owner. I purchased two pair of pants and three pairs of boots. I do not think any of these items were worn. If they were worn, it was very minimal. None of the boots showed wear on the tread or creases across the toes. They had the biggest luxury brands in the industry. But, what did it for me, is the owner's wife. I looked like a homeless person and she treated me with respect and kindness. She even went so far as to tell me who her hairstylist's information. She is his best advertisement because her hair is a ten!! My partner loves them because of their boxer. I am fairly certain, if they put that doggie in the window, we would be the first in line but I can tell they're good pet parents so I'll just get to enjoy watching them walk their show worthy boxer. I know this is a TLDR kind of post but they're worth every accolade and then some. Because I was so impressed, I'll be going to their other location tomorrow or next week. while browsing through the store i picked up a tote and carried it on my shoulder (no shopping baskets available) as i continued to shop throughout the store. the elder man (owner/employee) stalked me for a minute and then questioned in a nasty way "did you take the tag off that bag?" pointing to the tote. I was shocked and said "no" and he continued to look for the tag around my underarm until i pulled out the tag for proof. i was angry and hurt, I confronted him and asked him why he asked me that question. His response, "I was double checking it had a tag. sometimes we bring items out without tags and i wanted to be sure it had a tag." "you know what lady, here's the deal, i asked a question and if you have a problem with that, i cant help you." "lady, you want these items? i can help you." "in your mind, you thought i accused you." I said, "i deserve an apology." he said "well, youre not going to get an apology". at that point, i got emotional and left. He was awful. Unforgivable, No excuse for his behavior and treatment. I audio recorded the confrontation with him and unfortunately, cannot post audios here. Glad to never walk in that store again. read more

I'm a big fan of Elliot's! When I used to work nearby, walking in would make my day worthwhile! The clothes are high quality and well-maintained- not crammed together in racks so tight you can't see what's where... AND the Men's selection (basement) is exeptional... I bought a brand-new, tags-attached grey-striped Helmut Lang shirt for my very handsome boyfriend... and then had to spend the rest of the holidays fending packs of fawning ladies away from him (Advice? Shouting "Open Bar" helps... if you are ever in this situation...) Added plus- accessories like belts are not at all neglected- I've bought for myself- a beatifully silver-buckled black leather Danna Karan and a genuine leather, Mont blanc leather number and denim Prada belt that I adore... and was able to pay for with the flexible layaway! 2.5 Stars I have mixed feelings on Elliott Consignments. The sales basement has many affordable cashmere and cashmere-like wool sweaters and the clothing is sorted by color. (I would be OCD like that, but most of my clothes are black.) The prices for men's designer suits are ridiculous. I'm talking about $500+ for a used suit. One can get a brand spankin' new Calvin Klein or Banana Republic suit WITH alterations for less than that. However, they have suit jackets (jackets that are missing the matching pants - not sports coats) for under $100. Oh, and I found cute brown aviators .. for $45. Why so much? It was made in Italy, even though the brand wasn't printed anywhere on the flimsy frame. Meh! read more

The prices are a bit higher, probably since it's a consignment set-up rather than an outright resale. Hi. I am a guy. Do you know how hard it is to go consignment and thrift shopping as a guy? You probably don't because you're probably a fashionable girl. Well let me tell you it's very very hard in Chicago. Elliott is as good as it gets here. It's probably as good as it gets even in Los Angeles and NYC. I didn't walk out with anything because they didn't have a good selection of size small for men (what else is new? Keep oppressing us small people). However, I must admire the quality and quantity of their selection. Good good brands. The lowest tier stuff were from Banana Republic and J. Crew. Also considering the brands, the prices are really good. It's not thrift, but you really can't find this quality and designer wear at thrift anyway. And you HAVE TO check out the basement. That's about as thrift as brand name shopping gets. I can't imagine shopping here as a girl and not walking away with bags of stuff. Definitely gonna take my next gf here. Hm... or... I can just take any girl here and then obviously she'll fall madly in love with me because of my fashion sense and economic prowlness. read more

This is a consignment store as good as the ones in NYC! This is my kind of thrift store. They feature only good brand names and the merchandise is of decent quality. The price is very reasonable too. I'm in awe of some of their luxury stuff too. Today, I saw a pair of deep pink Loubis and my heart stopped. Great stuff! Have been to their other shop on Broadway previously, this one seems to have a better selection of suits. Ties have more selection at Broadway location, shirts...about even. This spot has more space, which makes for an easier shopping experience. Plus the basement holds some real finds that are at ridiculous prices. Watch the tags, prices get slashed 25, 30, then 75 percent off the already low numbers. Incredible deals to be had! read more

4 stars for their $4 basement garments. I bought three blazers for $13!!! Does anyone where blazers anymore?? I do, on the cheap! Their prices are a little steep but they have lots of cute stuff. I love Elliot's. I used to live near enough that I could go to both locations and I have found some great pieces. The owners are a husband & wife pair &I love them too! She is like the aunt you always wanted & if you ask, she can outfit you for anything. He is a little harder to break. As far as consignment goes, they are my favorite. The bargain basement is often a good go-to but the upstairs has some great pieces too. Some, I will agree are too overpriced. read more

Honestly? I really hate giving negative reviews - makes me feel all dirty inside, like I'm just begging for bad karma. But this place really ticked me off. I had a bunch of men's oxfords given to me and whatever my friends didn't take, I brought to Elliott Consignment. These were NICE oxfords like Brooks Brothers and Ralph Lauren and they were in good to great condition. Upon dropping them off, the woman who runs the shop tells me she had a root canal that morning and would I mind if she looked these over later and called me? Sure, not a problem. But then she took one look at the two garbage bags I brought in and said "I see they're all crumpled up and just tossed in there. I don't know what I'll be able to use if they're not nicely folded." Honestly, I've never heard of such a thing - this is a dumpy CONSIGNMENT shop, not Nordstrom. They way she approached it was just plain rude. And then she was going to allow them to sit even longer while she healed from her root canal and get even more crumpled? Really? C'mon now... I continued to call and follow up with them about my shirts but I never got an answer or an answering machine. Two weeks later I finally get a phone call telling me she can't use any of these items because they're dated and not in great condition. How a man's white oxford from Brooks Brothers goes out of style i'll never know. Regardless, I told her to donate them and I'll never go back there again. read more

I've been following on IG for sometime and stumbled upon this great place while recently visiting. Great finds and great service.

As far as the mens selection goes, Elliott's seems to be pretty solid. I'm not an expert at scoping all the "gently owned" stores in the LP/Lakeview hoods, but Elliott's does have a solid amount of brands and selections. Fellas - they've got plenty of Brooks Brothers dress shirts ($20), a few good sweaters from DKNY, JCrew and Kenneth Cole. I got myself a pair of Steve Maddens that look brand new for only $25. Their pants & jeans selections were fair, but I've seen better at Plato's and Buffalo Exchange. All in all, still worth a visit when you're on the hunt. It's only a couple blocks from the Fullerton L and a block away from 3 bus lines. Use the public transpo people! read more

Here is the break down. If you are expecting low cost gently used items, don't go here. This store knows they are selling good stuff and price it to match. If you are like me, you are not expecting to pay more than $6 a shirt at a second hand store. Here you'll find Boss shirts for $30 (which is still a good deal) and JCrew shirts for $20 (aren't they $30 brand new?). They did have great deal on men's suits, if you can find one you like. The dress shoes are clean, more worn than I like, but again priced to match (i.e. high). They had some jewelry options and yes, much like some people's reviews, the person working the store is quite unfriendly. I walked by the case, where I think the guy was online on his computer, and I stopped to look at something and no acknowledgement of my existence was made. It's just called good customer service, a simple hi would have been ok. So I probably won't go back, unless I'm looking for a cheap new suit (but then I'd just go have one custom made at BZachs!). read more

When I respectfully asked him to put one on, he refused. He was trying to bully me into unsafe behavior. I left. For a thrift store this place is extremely over priced. I am typically weary of thrift stores because I don't like secondary ownership of items but I was just looking to save some money on something I would only be wearing a couple of times. So I went in on a suit jacket and when i got there I was surprised to see them all over $120 and mediocre at best. Long story, short I went to Saks and got a new one for $200. read more

I love this place. They only carry truly quality clothing, and its so affordable. Is it as cheap as Salvation Army... sometimes cheaper and you don't have to put in all the work. I've gotten dress shirts on sale for $5 and my wife has gotten jeans for $5. They do have some really sweet luxurious stuff that is out of my price range. Nice area to try stuff on, tons of men's and women's clothes shoes and accessories. They always have stuff on sale. Great place worth a visit... they have a place on Broadway too. read more

I am huge on thrift and consignment shops, but when I saw the prices at this store I walked right out. I might as well spend that kind of money on new clothes rather than on used ones. I was not impressed with this location at all. First of all, the staff was not very friendly toward me at all. No one greeted me or asked me if I needed any assistance. The selection was somewhat small and the prices were a bit too steep for my liking. I doubt I will be back as I am sure there are other better consignment stores in the area. read more

I just moved back to Chicagoland after 3 years on the Left Coast and needed warm clothes so back to EC. Used to stop in here when I lived in Lakeview. Anyway, was in there today and found some nice leather boots (Robert Clergerie), jeans, a cashmere sweater (J Crew), necklace and a cool knit scarf. The winter coats are few and far between but the nice woman at the counter (who always calls me sweetie, which I like) gave me a discount coupon to try and find one at the Broadway store. I prefer thrift and consignment over buying new at a mall, etc...better for the bank account and the environment... I'll be back! read more

Not sure why this place has so many positive reviews. I could tell I probably wasn't going to have a good experience from the moment I walked in the door. The woman behind the desk looked me up and down and immediately asked "are you new?" From there, she reviewed my clothes swiftly and in a haughty manner, dismissing top brands (most of which were listed as brands they accept on their website) without a close look. Honestly, I've been to consignment places before where they don't accept a lot of the items you bring for one reason or another. That's totally fine and to be expected. It was the rudeness of the store clerk that ultimately left a sour taste in my mouth. With so many online options to sell/buy clothing, not sure why anyone would go here.... read more

This is a great consignment store. Nice clothes and well organized. Lots of deals in the basement. Sharon is great. Her husband is more reserved. Clothes are pricier than a thrift store because it is consignment, not thrift. You can tell the difference. I enjoy shopping here more than in thrift stores. read more
