I have been here for almost eight months and I visit Robin Richman regularly to take a look at their stuffs. Since I have spent over 5K usd on more than ten items, I am now giving it a review. It is a place for the cool things that you will not find it anywhere else in Chicago. I am a fan of Uma Wang, GUIDI and Marc Le Bihan, so I am really into the collections that Robin have. Though we can get them online, I prefer trying some of them and see the materials. Some of the clothings can be pricy but most of them are OK to me. Despite of some people think that the staffs are rude, well, ... I found they are actually friendly and provided a lot of fitting advices. They don't have many superficial greetings but if I want to try something they would not hesitate to help. They also give valuable advices on how to take care of the clothes. Sometimes there are things beyond my budget but they will still let me have a try. Sometimes there is one thing that fits me better (from their perspective) and with a lower price - they would advice me to purchase even if I have the money to buy a more expensive one. And Sometimes I went there in a rush with my dusty Columbia outfit and it has never been an issue. Overall, I think they are good, straightforward, and down-to-earth people. They just don't try to please people deliberately. P.S. Speaking of the pricing, those handbags in Neiman Marcus are reaching 5000+ even 8000+ usd. Almost all the luxury brands raise the price of their products every year, and I have friends consistently buying their handbags. I found I could actually buy REAL LEATHER bags with a budget around 500 usd at Robin's. So it's just a matter of which view you choose. read more

So, I forgot to post about this place a couple of years ago, but I live in the neighborhood and cringe every time I have to walk by. The employees at this store are beyond rude and pretentious. The one time I entered and never will come back was during their sidewalk sale. I browsed around for a bit- that's what you do at sidewalk sales. The employees were rude and didn't even really care to ask if I needed help, but they were busy for them. I got to look at all the ugly overpriced items. I left and didn't purchase anything. The woman working on the sidewalk followed me out and dared to accuse me of shoplifting. Because I browsed in the store and was wearing athleisure clothing? I was outraged but politely just told her no in disbelief. Not to mention, she looked like she was milking cows in her outfit. I'm shocked this place is still in business. Love the super unique beautiful pieces in this store. Unfortunately I can't imagine who can afford them. Great for browsing. Also not sure how closing at 6pm on a weekday works for them. You've probably been to this store before when it was called p45 or Tangerine. Just kidding, but this store is another yupster boutique that brings out the worst in young ladies' spending habits. I had to go to RR to get my sister a birthday gift. Even though I will now be forced to go without food or toilet, I take comfort in knowing my sister will be rocking the finest in chunky metal necklaces. The service was excellent. I described my sister to the sales ladies and they knew exactly who her, her husband, and dog were. I'm not kidding. Unfortunately, the prices are not recession or unemployed-brother friendly, so my advice is, don't inform the ladies in your life that this place exists. If they find out about it, try to convince them they were drunk and just imagined it. read more

Everything a whimsical minimalist ever wanted and never needed line this airy Tim Burton-meets-Beatrix Potter-for-vodka-in-Brooklyn style shop. This is, hands down, my FAVORITE Bucktown boutique for pretentious, industrial, eccentric, conversation-starter jewelry, and each timeless bangle I've bought was WORTH breaking the bank for. If you're going thrifty, might I suggest Claire's, because in RR all they've got is made-to-wear art and art fo' your arms ain't cheap. RR is where I bless myself with brands (like Gary Graham, Marsell & Goti) I can't find elsewhere--those buttery asymmetrical takes on basics that say, "Sure, I'm a vegetarian, but I wanna wear the leather, not eat it." My point is that the extensive array of statement pieces shelved at RR make it one of those special occasion shops where, oh, say you might just occasionally trip, fall and swipe your card in--no buyer's remorse...at least not for me. read more

Not only does Robin have one of a kind pieces, collected from all over the world, she also has one of a kind service, collected from a staff of great team members. I am not a regular customer. I live in a different city and from time to time buy a piece or two from Robin. Recently her team went out of their way for me, which is prompting this review. I had left them a message looking for a piece from a NY designer that was sold out everywhere else in the country. Originally they did not have it, but a week later found the piece, remembered I had called, had saved my number and contacted me regarding it. I am now a very happy customer and am very impressed with their thoughtfulness. They could have easily offered this last peace to one of their more regular customers, but they offered it to me. Robin should learn how to treat others with respect, especially customers who are financing her business. I decided to check out the store after being referred by a friend and felt unwelcome from the moment I stepped in. No one greeted me, acknowledged me or offered to assist me. I was watching my 8 year old niece that day and decided to bring her with me since she's a little fashionista herself and I thought she would enjoy the store. We were looking through some of the jewelry together and Robin snaps at me "watch your kid, these are expensive pieces and you're responsible if anything breaks." I was genuinely shocked by her comments. I could even understand if she was being rowdy or running around the store, but my niece is a very shy, well behaved human who I was watching the whole time and was doing nothing but carefully looking at the different accessories. The outburst from the owner was completely unwarranted and upset both of us so we turned around and walked out. Also from what I saw the selection is fine, but there are numerous other stores in the area who have just as good quality products for a much more reasonable price. If you care about receiving good customer service don't shop here! read more

I recently went to Robin Richman's store and bought 2 items, one of which was a bracelet. When I got home I put the bracelet on and, as I was latching the bracelet, the clasp fell off. Upon further inspection, I noticed that the bracelet was poorly constructed - the latch had been attached with a very small amount of glue or solder. I decided to go back to the store the next day to try to get a refund for the bracelet. When I went back the clerk told me that they would not give me a refund. However, she said that she would show Robin Richman (the store owner) the bracelet and ask her to reconsider. Robin called me back a couple of days later and told me that she would still only give me store credit. I explained to her again why I felt I was entitled to a refund, at which point she started yelling at me. This escalated to the point where she was basically screaming, and then she hung up on me. I tried calling back but only got her answering machine. In my opinion, it is not worth the hassle to shop at Robin Richman's store. It isn't even about the fact that they sold me bad merchandise. The real problem is that Robin Richman apparently does not respect the customers who keep her in business. If she had spoken to me calmly on the phone and tried to work out a deal with me, instead of treating me like I was trying to steal from her, I would feel much different about her and her store. But now, I just want to get the word out so that this does not happen to anyone else. read more

This store fills me with so much anxiety, and momentarily causes me to question every grown-up decision I've made to date. Here's how it goes: I walk in, admire a garment or accessory, look at the price tag, and panic. My mind races. I wonder who has money to afford these items, and then I wonder if I'm doing something wrong with my life.. perhaps I should be making more in order to be able to afford pretty (fill in the blank). Yes. A career change is in order. I want a Gary Graham dress. I want to work in a place that will pay me enough to afford said dress, and will not look at me quizzically if I enter work environment wearing it. I want, I want, I want. It doesn't exactly help that all of the salespeople are wearing these interesting and beautiful garments with such ease, and I'm standing awkwardly in my Gap sweater and J. Crew khakis. More panic. They're judging me! Worse, they're not even acknowledging me. Oh no. Wait a moment... it's ok. The realization comes that I am not cool enough to wear these clothes. I grasp my place in the universe. Making a nonprofit salary is A-ok. No job change is necessary. The anxiety subsides, and I'm reassured. I am comfortable again in my nondescript, mainstream clothing choices. And then I move on to the next rack of clothing or wall of shoes, and it starts all over again. Panic, Panic, Panic. As a result of these panic attacks and their fabulous sales, I have a few quirky/beautiful garments and shoes from designers that I can't remember but that are well-regarded by people who know these things, and a very cute wallet, to boot. It's also an excellent place to buy gifts, because the whole idea of gifts is to buy something for someone that they would never purchase themself. read more

Unfortunately, Robin Richman is the sole Chicago stockist of one of my favorite clothing lines, complexgeometries. Unless I want to order online and pay postage from Canada, I have to go to Robin Richman to buy their clothes. Every single time I've gone into the store, the salespeople have been aloof, unfriendly, and generally seemed irritated by my presence. Recently, I went into the store in search of a complexgeometries piece. No one asked if I needed help or bothered to even say hello. The store was eerily quiet. Finally, I asked a saleperson if they had that particular complexgeometries garment I'd seen online - and she simply nodded no. A NOD, REALLY?! She couldn't even open her mouth to speak to me? I've worked in customer service and fashion for a long time, and I would NEVER dream of answering a customer's question with a silent nod. I walked dejectedly out of the store and no one said goodbye. So, I refuse to give Robin Richman my money, and will continue to order complexgeometries products online. Screw 'em. Good customer service goes a long way, and I hope they learn that lesson. read more

This place is so amazing. I have to stop myself from buying everything in there. The merchandise is quality and original. The visula merchadising is exquisite. More boutiques that pop up in the area should take a lesson from Robin. read more

This store carries many unique items that you won't find anywhere else. I talked to Robin in person and got some idea where and how she got her merchandise. The store carries Gary Graham, a Japanese label Antipasti and Velvet as well as some French made clothing. Expect to pay a premium but most of the items are from Europe. It even carries a fairly wide selection of vintage hair accessories! The handmade scarves and hats are beautiful but I don't think they are worth more that much ($170 in average.) But in general, it's a beautiful store with friendly staff, even Robin herself is very nice. read more

I haven't been here in ages but this store is wonderful. The atmosphere is very antiquey and the staff is friendly and helpful. The goods are a little on the expensive side, but there are so many wonderful little handmade goodies. Robin Richman actually made me contemplate buying a $60 winter hat and I don't even wear hats. If I could leave zero stars, I would. I have worked in retail for over twenty years, so I understand how hard it can be to provide excellent customer service, and I also know how unreasonable people can be with reviews. And especially during a global pandemic, things are so upside down and stressful, that I tend to give just about everyone a pass and try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. That said... I would not shop here if they were giving the merchandise away for free. I had by FAR the absolute worst customer experience of my life with the owner of this shop yesterday and I implore my neighbors and fellow Chicagoans to not shop here. I was berated, exceedingly rudely, in a very short encounter and exchange with the owner. As I left the store and walked down the street, she literally followed me and screamed at me as I walked away in front of my brother and best friend. And that wasn't the first time I've had an encounter like this at this shop. I don't ask for much, but I do expect to be treated with respect when spending my hard earned money in an establishment. Not only does the merchandise in this store leave something to be desired, to say the least. The customer service is truly awful. Buyer beware: heinous shop and shop owner. read more

Robin Richman is my favorite clothing store in Chicago. Most of the their merchandise is out of my budget, but I often drop by to browse the racks, looking for inspiration for my own wardrobe. The clothes the store carries features interesting, creative fabrics, lines, and construction techniques, with lots of attention to detail. Even the store's antique hangars are ornate. The staff is very helpful. Their acessories are a great, less expensive way of adding a bit of Robin Richman flair to one's "look." They also carry shoes. read more

Robin Richman features the wonderful styles of locally designed clothing. Robin Richmond is the designer for most of the clothing sold within her store. Along with a few other name brands, Ms.Richmond offers a fresh new collection with each season, when the change of season is also accompanied by a season sale in which she marks down the old and brings in the new. Additional items in her collection are often available for less in the back room. Most amazingly, the cut and style of each of her pieces is really lovely and expresses what each season means to her in a fashion sense. read more

Definitely brings out the worst in spending habits. I would probably say that my perspective on how much I should spend on clothes has been completely thrown out of whack since I started browsing the racks of RR a couple of years ago. The first few times I walked in, I just admired and gasped, admired and gasped, smiled at the kind staff and ran out wondering why I tortured myself like that. Now, I walk in and chit chat with the staff who at this point, know me and and can recall my last purchases. Instead of running out and torturing myself, I give in and make a quarterly purchase. phew! The funny thing is that I don't spend this much on clothes usually--for some reason I can justify these purchases. She carries truly beautiful, complex and one of a kind pieces. The collections she features tend to have strong de-constructionist and architectural components combined with soft edges and fabrics with movement. And her staff really is that wonderful, too. I feel soooo much better now that I give in to this guilty pleasure...just not so sure my wallet does... read more
