I highly recommend Elliott & Associates (which is now part of Protect Environmental). They showed up when they promised and completed installation of a new mitigation system that morning. Radon level dropped from 5.0 to 0.4. There were 2 nitpicky items noted by the village inspector. Elliott promptly returned and addressed these and the system was approved on repeat inspection. Not all Radon mitigation companies are the same. I moved to my home in Sandwich IL. We worried about Radon causing Lung Cancer, and Radiation in the soil. We have 3 grandkids playing in our basement. Our existing system was installed with a 3 inch pipe and after googling the fan, the worst fan anyone could get. Rated Inexepensive. I hired Elliott for my parents home in Wheaton, therefore I used them again for Sandwich. Using Airthings Radon detector for 160 dollars from Home Depot online order only, our readings were 8.89 to 7.6 long term. Elliot Associates gave advice where to place it for a week, I had Radon everwhere . Elliott investaged found I needed two pipes one in our wine celler door opening, and pipes were undersized. They replaced the system with 4 inch pipe, and discovered no fire stopper openings were placed between the garage and the ceiling and wall. The system they installed was in side our garage to the rool. A properly sized fan in the attic. Our readings droped to .5 Pci from 8.89 long term measurements greater than a 2 day test. 50cm above the floor. Exact spot measured originally. Its been a week and they exceeded our expectations =average .5 PCi Our family is safe from Radiation and drinking water is safe, as well as Free from Radon causing Lung Cancer. My gradkids can safely play in our basement. This company not only mitigates, but redesigns using proven math and squarefootage. Drawings. Nothing is more important your family especially your wife with the grandkids. Nothing means more. Imagine what could happen to the family if Elliot and Associates are not helping? My original test results for my basement locations were 4.4 and 8.8. After they installed the system, the results were 0.7 and 0.8 which is absolutely amazing, especially since outside air is 0.5. Elliott and Associates is one of the most positive experiences I've ever had with a contractor. I had a radon mitigation system put in in Feb. 2022. My experience: 1. Most importantly, the work was stellar. They went out of their way and spent extra-time to make the system exhaust piping inconspicuous on the exterior. In the basement, the work was minimally disruptive and the PVC pipe runs were efficient and well done. They did a good job of remembering to seal out of the way cracks that were found in an initial consultation. The work site was left very clean. HEPA vacuums were used for the safety of the workers and me when working with drilling (through the concrete slab and older toxic building materials). Finally, preliminary readings (with the caveat that its early still) from my home monitoring system show significant radon reduction. 2. I have never seen a contractor provide so much (relevant and insightful) documentation. There was a lot of specific information on the system to be installed and contextual information about radon and the system in the proposal, as well as pages of references (Elliot has worked on many, many houses in my area) with starting radon level, among other things. I work in consulting , a documentation-heavy industry. Usually contractors are fly by the seat of their pants, but Elliot runs a well-oiled and sophisticated client-communications operation. This is a good thing. I found all of it enriching. Every aspect of the install was photographed and I received a report within 30 minutes of completion; I didn't even need to leave work to see how the installation had went. The tech sent me text updates on his progress. They came out quickly. I received appointment reminders. Everything was painless. 3. All my needs were relayed to the techs installing the system. Oftentimes, the person you communicate with on a job is removed from the actual execution of it. This is usually an issue because any specifics you discuss with your contact do not get relayed to those who will implement it. If you have unique circumstances, it can be hard to get those taken care of. Elliot had relayed my detailed instructions to the tech who introduced himself and immediately rattled off the requests I had asked the office. In closing, and as the length of this review probably shows, I was very enthused by the work done by Elliot and Associates. read more

Elliott & Associates provided personal service from the very first phone call. I was referred to them by a restoration company, which said they could evaluate the site, and install an exhaust system for a crawl space... which is similar to a radon system. Elliott took a personal interest in our issue, which turned out through no fault of theirs too require multiple visits and additional work. All the staff were helpful and courteous and reported back to Elliott their findings. Elliott followed up each time, and did not charge us for the extra trips to make sure everything was working properly. Elliott & Associates would be my first call if I were purchasing a house and needed a Radon test, a Radon system installed, or an exhaust system installed. If it were possible to give less than one star on yelp I would. I had an awful experience with Elliott and Associates. I understand the initial proposal is just an estimate with additional costs to be added in once the pros get a firm understanding of the work required. However, my quote more than doubled when Elliot's crew arrived at my home! When I expressed my concern, Elliot directed me to his "contract." Unfortunately for Elliot, his contract is as vague as his proposal. NOTHING in the contract prepares the customer for such a vast difference in price. Dealing with Elliot on the phone to discuss the misleading information I received was just as shady and confusing as his "contract." There are plenty of companies in the Chicagoland area that provide the same service at a reasonable price without the fraud and dishonesty of Elliot and his associates. Be warned. read more

AVOID THIS COMPANY!!! Elliott & Associates does horrendous work with ZERO accountability. We have WATER IN OUR BASEMENT because of a job that was done improperly and unprofessionally, and the company has offered NO SOLUTION. I've never written a Yelp review before, but am so enraged and furious that I want other potential customers to know just how cheap, stingy and awful these guys are. Bottom line: After paying a premium, we got water in the basement. Why? It came in from the hole that Elliott & Associates had cut to install their radon pipe -- and then -- filled with foam. FOAM!!!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME? When the water came in, it couldn't drain because Elliot & Associates had replaced our floor drain with a sealed one raised 1/4 inch off the floor. Immediately after the installation, our contractor noticed the botched job and suggested that we call back the radon guys to do the job right -- or else face the potential of water. We called many times after the installation to voice our disapproval, but got nowhere. Finally, when the worst-case scenario came true -- when water back coming through the hole where it very clearly read "Elliott & Associates," I got a callback. Immediately, the company's attitude was "This isn't my problem." After insisting that Elliott himself come out to explain the rationale behind why his company had designed the radon system the way they had, it became clear that the answer was pure, unequivocal laziness. (Me: "Please help me understand why you installed your radon system through here?"/ "Because there was an existing opening." / "Opening to what? Where does this go?" / "We think it's an old ventilation system." / "You think, or you know??!" Not only did Elliot not know, but he had no choice when faced with evidence of water coming in through where his men had cut into the wall except to begrudgingly, half-heartedly admit fault. ("If you want, we can take out the foam and put in concrete instead. That should water seal it.") And if it doesn't? I insisted. What are we supposed to do if water comes in again? I showed him the floor drain in the basement where his company had installed a raised drain. Elliot's response? There was "no other choice" except to use a raised one because the drains his company uses don't fit in our pipe. (Me: "Using a drain that is raised above the floor negates the purpose of having a drain. Why didn't you install this properly? // Elliot's reply: "Look, I'm a radon guy. Plumbing issues are not in the scope of our contract." // "Wait a minute," I said. "You mean making a basement properly sealed so that radon doesn't come in through the floor drain isn't the responsibility of the radon company?" He back-peddled. "What I'm saying is that we didn't know when we gave your quote that the drains we usually install didn't fit. It's not in the scope of our contract to fix your drain." WHY WEREN'T WE TOLD THIS?? WHAT KIND OF A PROFESSIONAL HIDES INFORMATION FROM A CUSTOMER? Only a company that cuts corners and races through jobs instead of telling their customers what's going on and trying to find a solution. I reminded him that we had a dry basement UNTIL ELLIOTT'S IMPROPERLY DONE JOB CAUSED WATER IN OUR BASEMENT... and now, because of him, it had no place to drain! Without offering an apology, he offered to send one of his men to put in another drain. Today, that worker arrived. When I walked into my kitchen, I saw him at the kitchen sink. THE WORKER WAS MIXING CONCRETE IN MY KITCHEN SINK. I said, almost in shock - "Are you mixing concrete over the dishes in my sink?" His response: "I couldn't find a water source in the basement. I'll clean up after I'm done." He then proceeded to carry the mixture in his bare hands, dripping wet concrete as he went over the kitchen floor and down the carpeted basement stairs. WHAT???? Maybe at the beginning of his 30-year career, Elliot was professional. Perhaps back then he actually cared about the jobs that he did or gave consideration to the customers whom he served. But those days are long, long gone. The job completed in our basement is not only a horrible eye-sore, but the lack of professionalism is absolutely abhorrent. And the worst part has been that any of our questioning of his company's work has been met with "I've been in this business for over 30 years." The last interaction we had ended in raised voices from both of us. Elliot repeated to me, again and again, that it's "not in his scope of work" to fix the problems HE CAUSED and suggested that we "go back to using the drain we had before." Then, he dismissed me, saying that this conversation was going nowhere and that he had "another potential customer waiting." This is beyond-the-pale kind of unprofessionalism. If you are considering hiring Elliott & Associates, look elsewhere for a business owner willing to stand by their work and help find solutions for their customers. Elliot inspected my home and came with a plan for the system installation. He promised to install "premium" system for premium price. I decided to go with this company even though they are charging lot more than others and end result is disaster. There is zero communication between owner and workers. The installed system is not as promised. I am surprised that they made some fundamental mistakes even though they are in business for 30 years and charge top dollar. Elliot recommends 4 inch system and you think it is 4 inch all the way but only part of system is 4 inch and rest is 3 inch system. This does not make any engineering sense as the system efficiency is pretty much limited by 3 inch pipe. Elliot charges around $400 more for 4 inch system! They did not even install energy star rated fan which costs just $10 more than the fan they installed (~$150). Radon mitigation seems like highly profitable business! It just costs less than $300 for parts and rest $1400 is profit and 2 hours of labor. These companies make it sound lot more complicated than it is! read more
