I called DuPage Radon and the very nice woman who answered the phone made it sound like they might cover it, but when she talked to her boss, he said no. Their quote to replace the unit was $400 (they were originally paid approximately $1,200 five years ago) and the soonest they could do it was New Year's Eve. I was able to find the exact same model radon fan at Home Depot for $150 and it literally took me no more than 15 minutes to remove the old unit (and I've never done this before). I'll install the new one when it arrives in the next few days. I don't know about you, but $500 an hour for labor seems excessive to me. Obviously I'm in the wrong profession. Meanwhile, I'm going to remove the DuPage Radon sticker from the cover just out of spite.

They told me they expected to complete the installation by 3 PM in the afternoon. They appeared to work diligently in the basement and garage, competing the work around 4 PM at which time Ruben took me on a tour to observe the new, functioning mitigation system. I couldn't be happier. The radon readings on my tester immediately started dropping and now measure under 1.00. I would highly recommend DRC.

I am not being hyperbolic when I say that this is the best company I have ever worked with for…read moreanything, ever. We tested for radon and though the level was not above 4.0 where the EPA would highly suggest (and probably enforce if they could) that a radon mitigation system be installed, it was reaching levels of 3.5 with overall averages of 2.5-2.7 and never going below 1.7 and this during the summer where radon levels measure lower than they do in winter months. Because there is no absolute safe level of radon exposure, and because we have an in-law living space in the basement where small children also spend a lot of time (their little developing lungs are even more vulnerable to radon exposure damage), we decided to get professional advice and were leaning toward installation of a reduction system. I tried reaching a company closer to our location, left several messages because they did not answer their calls, and sent a request for help on their website and no one ever contacted me. Finally I decided to call American Radon Systems. The owner, Bill, came to my home within hours of my first call. I was so relieved. He saw the readings I was getting on my radon monitor but did not try to sell me a thing because he wanted to make sure, first, that my older monitor was actually working correctly and recommended I purchase another reliable monitor because he was not wanting us to have to handle a non-existent issue. I appreciated that. We got the new monitor which was not very expensive and tested again. It was syncing up with the other one closely enough that we still decided to go through with the install. Bill is very knowledgeable, friendly, kind, and not pushy -- just straightforward, compassionate and easy-going. We scheduled 2 weeks out and continued to monitor. At one point we wondered if we were overreacting or if we should try other less expensive fixes like improving ventilation, looking for other leaks for radon entry, etc. because I misunderstood what he told me in our initial consultation and thought the procedure would be more invasive than it was, requiring cutting through remodeled spaces, etc., and contacted Bill on the very day the system was to be installed to communicate our reservations. He was so professional! He handled all of my concerns. They came to our home and were so courteous about taking care not to disrupt or dirty our space. They covered the floors, vacuumed all messes made, never left one speck of dirt or any garbage. Jose, the installation tech, was excellent, knowledgeable, diligent, efficient, and practically walked on cat's feet. We were afraid that the install on the outside of the house would be unsightly -- not at all. It blends right in. Anyway...I know this is long but I feel the entire process is important, and not just the final result. The final result: The radon system is basically silent and attractive. Our average radon levels are now measuring 0.8 and as I write this, the level is 0.6. The outside average is 0.4 so we're thrilled! Thank you, Bill and team. You're the best!

Don't use this service!…read more We were told that the service guy would wear a face mask while in our house Servicing our radon equipment and sump pump that was installed by accurate radon a few years back. We informed the owner, Rich Whiisler, mitigation professional, That I am a high-risk due to my health situation for COVID-19, and inquired if we could put the service off till later due to this fact. Rich said that could be for two years, and they had all the safety measures in place and the service guy would wear a face mask while in the house to protect himself & us, and would only go into the basement areas that had the sump pump and the radon equipment. That is still walking through our entire basement downstairs, which is our carpeted and finished family room. We were told by Rich NOT to go in the basement while the service guy will be servicing the sump pump and radon equipment and to wait three days to wipe down the sump pump room and the radon equipment that may have been touched. Rich also stated the service guy would be using our bathroom to wash his hands with soap and water. I said I did not want the service guy to use our bathroom to wash his hands but to have him bring hand sanitizer instead. Rich stated it is better that he would use water and soap because it gets rid of the germs easier, but he would have him use hand sanitizer instead. What Rich did NOT share with us Is, that the service guy would be taking his face mask off while in the basement servicing the sump pump and the radon equipment. We have an open basement, with no door to close, which is actually our carpeted and finished family room. While we were upstairs, the service guy was servicing our sump pump area and radon equipment in our Open family room basement. We heard him coughing down in our finished family room basement. It was observed, that the service guy had his face mask pulled down under his chin. We called Rich and requested the check to be returned to us. Also, that he never mentioned to us that the service guy would be allowed to take his mask off once he was in the basement. That was never told to us. If Rich would have told us, that the service guy would be allowed to take his face mask off once he was in our finished family room basement, we would have never allowed this service in our home. This was a breach of trust and honesty and I would not recommend anyone using this service. It has put me at a risk even higher for the COVID-19.

When I was not happy about that idea, Lenny said Ok they would start the next day. The next day Ethan showed up late, set up some scaffolding and then left at 10:30 never to return. Elite had successfully pushed my job back the 2 days they originally wanted in a very sneaky way, by pretending they were starting my job. I really don't appreciate a company that I have hired to act in such an unprofessional manner, thinking they pulled a fast one on their client. Nothing was ever communicated to me through the entire rebuild. Oh, but the day they finished they could knock on the door because final payment needed to be made. The invoice was in my email promptly the next morning. Previously they would maybe show up, maybe not a couple times with no explanation at all. This company felt no need to communicate with the client unless they wanted something. If I questioned something I was an annoyance to anyone associated with Elite. I was a non person with a checkbook to them. Not the kind of company I like to hire for a company with the highest quote! ARC never came to visit our home - while their competitors did this as a standard account management cycle. Fast forward to this week, I was ready to sign the agreement and pay the deposit - the rep asked me to confirm the 2x4 framing. I asked him how he wanted me to do this - he suggested I drill pilot holes in each wall or pay a 3rd party to do this and that ARC was not responsible for verifying the details of our home. Not responsible for validating a critical project detail before having you customer pay thousands of dollars?! Extremely poor customer service and frankly, a lazy sales team. I am sure the crews doing the work are great, but the accounts team could use a refresh. I will work with a competitor unless ARC has employees willing to visit their prospective customers!
