One of the advantages of staying at the Saint Gregory Hotel is that this restaurant is located right in the lobby. However, Otherwise, you'll be paying for parking in this neighborhood. There is actually a parking garage directly next-door. You can sit in the bar area or at a few tables just outside the door and there's an additional upstairs lounge area for more privacy. They do have a full bar, but they only have bottled beer, no draft and only a small handfull of craft beers. You can also peruse the 12 page beverage menu featuring bottles of wine, wines by the glass, mock tails and cocktails. Service here is very friendly and attentive. We opted for the hanger steak and onion burger, and I have to admit they delivered. We followed the meal up with the chocolate cake/raspberriy cognac sauce dessert. Sadly, it was the only disappointing part of the meal. The cake itself was so soggy that it reminded me of digging through a can of wet cat food. The accompanying Cognac sauce was also barely discernible. Don't recommend. When you get the bill, just remember that WA DC charges a 10% tax rate, at least this place does not add a credit card fee. You also cannot charge your meal to your hotel room here. We would definitely come here again, but we'd skip that dessert. Informative photos included. read more

I had the best wagyu smash burger at the Ellington Park Bistro restaurant at The St. Gregory Hotel in Dupont Circle in Georgetown, Washington DC. This restaurant has an elegant ambiance and a swanky Parisian-inspired vibe. Very fancy and sexy atmosphere. This is definitely a culinary experience! All our food and the service was excellent. My cousin arrived on Thanksgiving morning and we wanted to get breakfast before starting our day. The place we originally wanted to go to ended up being closed, which is how we ended up at Ellington Park Bistro. We sat at the tables in the area with windows facing 21st and M Street that brought in sunlight. The green circular booths were very cute and comfortable. Decent. Not fantastic. I was torn between a 3 & 4 star rating. We visited on a recent trip to DC. I saw the restaurant and was like "it is so beautiful! We have to go!" and it is beautiful Sort of an odd set up with dining rooms set up in 3 separate areas of the lobby. The food seems to be touch and go. I wasn't super hungry but was cold so I just ordered the french onion soup which was very good (the two women next to us seemed to be regulars and they both ordered just the soup as well). My husband meal on the other hand wasn't great. It was overcooked and dry. He called it "disappointing". The drink menus was large. we asked a few questions to get some ideas before ordering. I ended up getting a mocktail (I'm experimenting with a alcohol lifestyle for a while) and my mocktail was so so good. It was also pretty - like it actually looked like a cocktail (this is not always the case) What tipped the scale for me was the manager (I think) saw us wandering around the lobby after just exploring and came out to talk to us, found out we were celebrating and opened a bottle of champagne that we all shared. She couldn't have been nicer. sat and talked ot us for about an hour over drinks. I'd say this is a good pre-dinner drinks or post dinner drinks & dessert option. I went for brunch and we were seated right away. I had a reservation but sometimes you still have to wait even with one(at other places). The restaurant is small but SO CUTE. Went here for a girls dinner a few months back. The place is dark but beautiful, and right near the lobby of the hotel. They have nice little lounge areas although we had a large table. Everything was pretty meh. Nothing bad but nothing super memorable. We tried a few of the appetizers and most of us thought they were ok. Not super vegetarian friendly especially for the prices. After 10 years in DC, I've pretty much written off Restaurant Week as a disappointing experience that almost always comes with bad service. We decided to try Ellington Park Bistro anyway, and I am so happy we did, because it was by far the best Restaurant Week experience we've had here, with fantastic service and a great menu! Some of the things we tried: - Crab deviled eggs: These were incredible and absolutely jam packed full of the freshest crab. It's a pretty small serving (two halves), but that may have just been for the RW menu. - French onion soup: This was honestly perfect. The perfect amount of onions and cheese and just delicious! - Escargot: This was a really unusual and delicious presentation- the escargot are served on top of gougères, which I had never seen before. - Chicken cordon bleu: This was a much lighter and fresher take on cordon bleu than you'd expect- it wasn't heavy at all, and the cheese and ham felt more like accents to the dish than overwhelming it. It came on top of a lentil and potato mixture that reminded me so much of actual home cooking in France. - Steak frites: These fries are the star of the show- they were skinny, crispy, and perfect. The steak was very good, it had an unusual crust that I couldn't quite place the flavor of. - Chocolate tart: This was an incredible way to end the meal. The bottom was the most delicious layer of salted caramel. This would not have been out of place at a Parisian patisserie! Our server José was so nice and attentive without being overbearing- the meal was perfectly paced so that we could enjoy every course but never felt like we were waiting long. The only thing that could have made our experience better was, for the first hour or so of dinner, it was unbelievably hot in the restaurant- we had to literally roll up our sleeves. Sunday brunch in the bar bistro was lovely! The sun came through the skylights as the guitarist was entertaining us. The round booths in the bar area are comfortable. I had the salad nicoise. My husband had the croquette madam. My daughter had the avocado toast with an egg. We shared the deviled eggs with crabmeat. Very good food. Seemed like staff were new. Trying, but green. I very rarely come on here and leave bad reviews because I am all about positivity and work in the service / hospitality industry all day long so I feel very empathetic to restaurant staff and always give the benefit of the doubt, but in this situation I honestly can't. This was the worst service I have experienced in a very long time. Let's set the scene (this will be a long review so bear with me here) me and my best friend want a cute galentines date together. We are both foodies and Yelp elites- we met working in a restaurant and both love a fine dining experience. This place had been on my list to try so I booked us dinner for 2 at 8. I arrive a few minutes early and am asked to wait for my table, I sit down at the bar. I am not greeted for several minutes. By the time I am served my table is ready so I pay for my drink and go to the table. Neither the Host or Bartender was friendly or welcoming to me at all. Honestly I felt awkward. I will say I loved the ambiance of both sides of the restaurant. Very attractive and good vibes decor wise. Once I was seated a server came by and quickly dropped a menu- didn't even introduce himself or any kind of greeting and ran away. My friend arrived and it took another 10 minutes for him to return for her drink order. I had asked if they had any special cocktails for Valentine's Day and he said he'd ask the bar. This will come back up later... So anyways another 30 minutes go by and we haven't even ordered the first course - finally he comes to take our order and we put it all in. At this point we've been there about 45 minutes and been checked on twice. In the meantime the food runners have attempted to bring us two entrees that we didn't order and also a bottle of wine - we had to say "I'm sorry but we didn't order that" and they walked away looking confused, turns out it was for the table next to us. First corse oysters - 6/10 Second corse Lobster pasta - 5/10 Third corse cream brûlée - 10/10 So finally he comes back and I ask again if they have a specialty drink and he says he'll go ask- 20-30 minutes later he returns with two drinks in hand and says "it's rye and blood orange and spice" and we are like - wait what?! But he runs off before we even have a moment to respond. Neither of us drink brown liquor nor did we order that, I was simply inquiring if there was a special? And If you're going to make a specialty cocktail at least ask what base spirit we want! I felt bad sending the drinks back but it was not what we wanted! At that point a manager came over and we explained the situation and she got us a new cocktail that was more to our taste. At that point we've been sat over an hour and a half and our entree hasn't came, bear in mind couples have came- eaten all 3 courses - and left in the time it's taken for us to get the entree. The food comes and we enjoy it: it didn't blow my mind but it was good, not great. I will say the dessert was great. But by the time we finish it's 10:30 and we are the very last table. After being neglected the whole meal we have to ask a server who isn't even ours to get our bill. This leads to my main complaint. The pricing. I was under the impression prie fixe meant one price for the meal. There was no price listed anywhere on the menu so it was a surprise when we got the bill. My lobster dish was $68 - highway robbery: for fun I looked up the cost of a similar dish at ocean prime- $57. And probably way better too!!!! How was my entree $30 more than my friends and it wasn't printed anywhere! Had I known I'd have ordered something different. Secondly there was a $6 charge for "up" on our drinks which to our knowledge as DC bartenders "up" means served in a coupe glass, chilled. Why were we charged for the glassware our drinks came in?! Insanity. We couldn't even complain though because our server disappeared never to be seen or heard from again. No transparency on cost, totally frustrating. I will not be back. I can get a better tasting, higher quality meal with superior service for LESS MONEY! down the street. And I advise you to do the same. After the worst dining experience I've had in a very long time not even the server or manager came by and said thank you for your business, we apologize for our mistakes, nothing. Probably were both hiding because they knew I was upset - rightfully so after the experience we had. Worse customer service than Dave and Busters - and that's saying something! read more

I dined here this past Valentines day with my best friend for a Galentine's dinner, and I was not impressed. The restaurant is situated in the middle of the hotel lobby and tables are scattered throughout so immediately upon entering it was confusing. Upon being seated, it took about 15 minutes for a server to come around and take my drink order; and then another 15 minutes for my drink to arrive. As it was Valentine's day there was a prix fixe menu, which I usually like because you get to try a little bit of everything. First off, no prices were added anywhere on the menu, so it being a prix fixe we assumed that there was one base price for the whole tasting menu, which was not the case. Our first course of oysters (with a caviar add on) was delicious but a lot of volume. My friend ended up being charger $30 more for her choice of main course than I was, and the quality was mediocre. My best friend and I are both bartenders and so we love trying new cocktails at different restaurants. We simply inquired if they had any fun Valentine's day specialty cocktails, and without asking us any other questions our server brought us two random drinks he had the bartender concoct. They were both scotch cocktails, and neither my friend or I drink brown liquor so this kind of put us in an uncomfortable position because he had neglected to ask us what base spirit we would like in a cocktail or if there was anything we did/didn't like. The manager did come and check in with us, and upon explaining the situation she immediately recommended a different drink that sounded good to both of us and exchanged them. The quality of everything was very nice here, but the service was just not great. It's very understandable that Valentine's day is a busy day in the service industry but there were multiple tables who were seated after us and also left way before we even got our dessert. We dined here on a blustery day on December 23rd at around 10AM. The food is overpriced as one would expect from a hostel bistro trying to present itself as something special, but I do have to admit that (aside from the bacon which is SLAB cut and not at all what I'd hoped for) the food tasted good. However, my dining partner and I found ourselves VIOLENTLY ILL within an hour, things coming out of us from both ends. Since the only item we both had were the breakfast potatoes I can assume this was the culprit. So we spent more than $80 with tip for food that we just spewed into the toilet. As a side note, the server was pleasant but she didn't *listen*. She literally turned around ten second after taking our order and I had to repeat it back to her, and then later she offered us a to go coffee and I said no thank you, and then she brought one over anyway so it went straight into the trash. I wanna give them 5 stars so bad because the staff was very friendly and our waitress was great. Unfortunately, the food was just not good I got the chicken and waffles expecting a fried chicken breast on a waffle but instead I got chicken fingers ?? not sure what shape to even describe it as. It seemed like it was frozen chicken sticks that they just warmed up. My brother ordered the hangar steak medium rare and it came out almost well done. The brioche french toast was really good though. Also, ordered a vanilla cappuccino before my meal and it didn't come out until we were well into our meal even though I asked them to cancel it. I forgot to check my receipt for that but all our coffees came out super late even though it was the first thing we ordered. Ambiance was nice but not worth it for food at all. read more

The food was decent (although not great), service was a bit slow, atmosphere was good, BUT I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO SUCH A GREEDY PLACE. In my mind, when I go to a place where most entrees are in the $30s and $40s, I do not expect them to charge for refills on overpriced $5 iced tea, and then to serve it in a 10-ounce glass half filled with ice, and not to tell the customer until they see the charge for refills on the check. And when my wife was allergic to the French fries (they are cooked in a deep fryer with other items that have lard, which she cannot eat), they offered to substitute a vegetable at no charge; but when the bill came, they added $2 for that. When the bill came and we questioned the charges, the server explained the iced tea charge for refills is their policy, and he agreed to take off the $2 for the vegetable. Except then the manager came over and said the server was not supposed to wave this extra charge, and the charge for the tea is their policy. This arrogant, unempathetic response by the manager without any form of apology ensured that I will not return to this restaurant. And all for a couple of bucks. If I want to spend that type of money, I want a place where I believe the restaurant cares about its patrons and wants to give them a good experience. In all honesty, I can't think of any other restaurant in DC in this price range that conducts itself in this manner. Oh, and the final example of greed: when I asked if they serve bread, he said they offer a baguette for $2, which we ordered. When it came, it was all of 12" long, far shorter than most bagguettes that I have encountered. read more

But don't worry the ambiance is well worth the price - if you get to sit in the actual restaurant and aren't sat in the hotel lobby like we were. The food and service was so bad that we left in a rush to head to another restaurant where, within 20 minutes, we had food and service Ellington Park Bistro could only dream of achieving - for a fraction of the price. And it wasn't like he was busy making drinks, either. And, on top of it all, he added 20% gratuity for a party of 2!!!!! Went for restaurant week. Had the 4 course dinner. Crab Deviled eggs - two egg halves in a small salad that was tangy snd sweet. (Served on a deep bowl - a wrong choice, I think.) French Onion Soup - deep, rich, sweet, cheesy. In a word, yum. Steak Frites was very good. Hanger steak is classic and it was very tasty. The tarragon aoli was great. Profiteroles to finish. They weren't the classic French style, which is stuffed with ice cream and covered in chocolate cause. There were small nuggets filled with pastry cream, with raspberry sorbet. Very nice. The reviews on this restaurant were very mixed, but I found the service was casual and friendly. We chose the dining room, which is across the lobby from the beautiful bar area. It was nice. Very quiet by todays restaurant standards. I enjoyed it. Great standard French bistro food. Really hit the spot. read more

After reading the glowing review in the Washington Post, we came to try it ourselves. The one word I kept thinking of after each dish was perfect. Each dish was perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked, perfectly portioned. It's classic and familiar French fare but still something special. All of us left saying it was one of the best meals we had all ever had. The pricing is on the higher end but the ambiance, food, and service are on-par with any good fine-dining restaurant that would be twice the price. Me and my son had been out all day, and decided to head downtown for a bite to eat. The bar was packed, I didn't expect it to be as crowded as it was. they seated us at one of the tables overlooking the window. It actually wasn't a bad view. I ordered a brussels sprouts, scallops, and a Wagyu burger. The scallops were definitely the best thing, seared very well, buttery and A1 around. The burger, was a burger, but it did the job. We were in the front bar area at a table because apparently that's where I made the reservation but the host even offered to move us to the back dining room if we wanted. My boyfriend and I had some friends come in to town, it had a beautiful ambiance so we decided to dine here for brunch! It was beautiful, light and airy. The only thing w that was iffy was the service. Our server didn't write our order down and it resulted in a few of our orders being wrong, particularly the way the eggs were cooked. And obviously we have table manners so the whole table did not eat until all of the food was present and correct. So when we realized the food would take a minute to be corrected, the other half of our party asked if our food could be set under a hot light so all of the food would be hot and ready when it came out. It was a pretty big issue. We had to ask for the manager before our request was honored. We got the food finally and it was pretty good I don't know if it was worth the experience though.
