I just got my hair cut and I literally cried in the car on the way back to work. I asked for a trim and long layers. He said he'd do that and "clean up the bangs." Great. He gave me a trim, didn't cut layers more than the bottom inch of my hair, which is totally pointless if you ask me, but what he did to my bangs... I get in the car and look in the rearview mirror and they are so short, but while most of the bangs touch the top of my eyebrows, there is about an inch and a half section in the very middle of my face that is a solid half an inch shorter than the rest of the bangs and don't even touch my eyebrows, making the terrible cut even more obvious. I'm going to have to go side swept until this grows out. How could he not see what he did to me??? read more

I am delighted with my pedi - I got the gel pedi which Justine said will probably last a month. She spent over an hour on my pedi and she was meticulous in her work, checking and re-checking my rough heels and cuticles before moving on to the next step. PHOENIX is the master. I am at a loss for words because I can't even use words to describe her awesomeness. Don't go to her. It's already hard enough to get an appointment-she's really high in demand. UPDATE: Went to Phoenix again today. She rocked it! Nobody has ever cut my hair this way and I love it. My 15yr old daughter went for highlights yesterday. The person scheduled to do her hair handed her off to Maria, who cut 3inches off her hair, when she told her she didn't need it cut. Couldn't even see the highlights, told my daughter she did as good as she could for what she had to work with Then charged her 120 when was told 65 from the person schedule to do it. When I spoke with the manager, he claims they are private agents and couldn't do anything about it. He is a weak manager, let's his people do as they want, doesn't stand by the work. if they mess up he needs to make it right. I first went in nice, but didn't end up that way. I'll defintley be coming back here to have my eyebrows done for sure, but I'll probably be going somewhere else to get my hair done....don't get me wrong, the girls did an AMAZING job on both my eyebrows and hair (I'm new to the Humboldt area and it's been scary looking for a new salon)... BUT with that said , the reason why I'm only staying to get my eyebrows done here and hair elsewhere is because the girl who mainly does the reception mis-quoted me both times I've gotten my eyebrows and hair done together (trip # two she qouted me $75 for both and it wound up being $90 & when I came up to pay, she booked it to the back because she'd overheard the price difference) I'll still come here to get my eyebrows done for sure, but hair wise I'll probably be going somewhere else :( read more

Not helpful. I waited in line for quite a while as the lady at this desk chatted with some friend of hers. Finally when it was my turn in line, the lady made eye contact with me then turned around and started chatting with other co workers, completely ignoring me. Also, the tanning is overpriced for what you get and you have to wipe down the bed yourself before using it - gross. read more

Pros: Got in right away. Devon was very pleasant. Cons: Paid WAY too much for the worst haircut of my life. Both sides are too short and each side is different length, (vary by at least 1/2 inch). Both sides are choppy and blunt, though I wear a textured cut. Though it's been over 2 weeks, I still have an unbelievable cowlick. The back is longer than the rest and full, i.e, no taper toward neck even though the sides are short and above my ears. Bangs look like Julie Andrews in Sound of Music. I have been and will continue to be wearing a scarf/turban to cover this outrageous atrocity of a hair cut for several more weeks. Moral: Be VERY careful if you book an appointment here with Devon. read more

Went in to get my hair cut yesterday but my usual stylist was out of commission due to an injury. I asked for the next best person and I ended up with a wonderful stylist whom I would highly recommend to anyone. Her name is Andrea and she is top notch, very friendly and really cares about the work she's doing. I enjoyed talking with her too. She's got a lot of energy and enthusiasm. I've needed last minute nail appts twice in the last six months or so, and Elke's has been able to accommodate both times! Both Justine and the blonde girl that works next to her (cannot remember her name!!) are amazing! They are both very talented and pay attention to what they're doing while being super friendly and engaging in conversation! My nails were perfect after both appts, and lasted for around THREE WEEKS; a record for my nails. Justine also recommended several hair products and I bought all three products she recommended and told me I could return them if I didn't like them. I could not be happier with all three and have continued to purchase them. Keep doing what you're doing girls!! read more

I moved here about a year ago and could not find anyone! I tried a local place at the Bay Shore Mall...... Horrible experience !!!! Fortunately I am Blessed and met a Wonderful person (Lori ) who hooked me up With Elke's. I met with Terri and don't know what I would do without her. I absolutely love the products but I would have had a much better experience buying online being cheaper and less of a hassle compared to total image service..I ordered a tube of dye and came back to the store twice to see why I wasn't getting a call my order was in and why its taking so long for my order to come since I was in town and they hadn't even ordered it yet, twice! Turns out i wasnt even supposed to be charged until it was received and they gave me attitude and I lost my receipt so I haven't gotten a refund. So 3 days ago my mom scheduled my little sister a hair appointment at Elkes in eureka with a lady named Bobbie Jo for 3:45pm today. At 11:30 my mom gets a call from this lady who is supposed to be doing my sisters hair and she pretty much tells my mom 'I'm calling to cancel because that's cutting into my dinner time and I'm old fashioned and don't like the ombré look so I'm gonna see if one of the other girls will do it' and my mom asks 'are you telling me you just don't want to do it? And she tells my mom 'yeah I am, lets be real. I'll call you back if someone else can do it' so 20 mins go by and no call back so my mom calls and asks to talk to her and the receptionist tells my mom 'she said she's busy and isn't dealing with you right now, so she'll call you back' and HANGS UP on my mom. So Bobbie Jo calls back and says 'is this blah blahs mom?' My mom said 'yes' and she tells my mom 'so since you wanna call and go off on my receptionist we won't be doing anything for you and we no longer want you as a customer here' and again HANGS UP on my mom. So my mom calls back numerous times asking to speak with the owner and they kept answering laughing and hanging up on her. We've been going to Elkes for our hair for 10 years. I asked for a LONG cute choppy scene haircut..instead the lady cut THREE AND A HALF INCHES off!!! AND it looked like a bowl cut!!! I was mortified!! I went home and cried for 2 hours in my bathroom! No joke I look terrible now thanks to this lady. Ew Ew Ew No NO NO!!!! Don't go here. This place was everything I fear in a salon. All the ladies that work there are old and trashy looking. The girl that did my hair, Carmen, was so unprofessional. When i got there, she walked me to the chair and then didn't tell me to sit or anything but started talking to another overly-processed hag for like 10 min before returning to me! As for my hair: my color turned out well but I only asked for one all-over color so its pretty hard to screw that up, but the cut was just terrible. She did choppy layers all over which I did not ask for. I asked her to just trim the ends and clean up any splits ends; not to give me a completely different cut. Choppy layers was popular like 10 years ago which brings me full circle back to my original statement "these ladies are out-dated and unaware of current fashions." While i was sitting under the dryer she left the salon to go get prescription drugs that her friend who works at a doctors office called in for her.....and she has a couple of flasks at her station for when her clients need a shot.....? What the hell?!!?!?! Big, huge, colossal mistake on my part. Never going back. There is a girl in redding who is less expensive and so amazing and works out of a beautiful salon who I will drive three hours to see from now on and forever. I should never have strayed. read more
