We came here on a Thursday night to celebrate my mom's birthday and had such a great time. The staff was amazing and made sure we felt taken care of the entire evening. The decor and ambiance are truly unmatched. It's such a fun, tropical escape right here in the Midwest. I honestly wish Omaha had more spots like this. I'd love to come back when they have live music and dancing because I can only imagine how fun the energy would be. Most of the table ordered the Despelote to share, and it was perfect for a group. So many meats and sides, and plenty to go around. I ordered the Cuban Sandwich for myself and was really happy with it. The flavors were spot on, and the fries were super crispy and fresh. My husband ordered the Jibarito sandwich with chicken and really enjoyed it. He doesn't usually go for fried plantains, but he was pleasantly surprised by how much he liked them in the sandwich. Who would've thought my favorite Omaha restaurant would be Caribbeans food??? Popped in during a lunch break and absolutely loved it. I was greeted warmly and taken care of as a solo diner. The space is decorated beautifully, clean, with lots of color and representation. They start you off with complimentary toasted bread. Elie's had a lot of charm packed into a small building. They have live music (not sure if it's every night) and space for dancing. I had tacos and rum punch and I give them two thumbs up. The location is very aesthetically pleasing. A good spot for pictures. We were greeted upon entry. I Went earlier in the day on a Friday so they wasn't busy at all. The owner was very sweet and welcoming. The food wasn't my favorite and pretty pricey for what we got. If you like a good strong drink I would not recommend the drinks they were good but not worth the buck. The parking is horrible in this area even though we came mid day we still had to park down the street from the restaurant. Stopped by in the evening on a Thursday around 5:15pm for dinner! They were decently busy, people in and out all the time, they were turning tables quick! The food really is great and I love different! The plantain tacos in the appetizer menu are phenomenal and honestly could be an entree. The empanadas are excellent, but a little on the pricey side. The restaurant is festive and clean. The big challenge at this particular restaurant continues to be the service and lack of availability of items on the menu. Our server was not aware of one of the signature drinks on the menu I needed to check in with the bartender. Once we got that squared away, we began to order and found that many of the items we were ordering were not available. The service was quick and easy, and they gave some great recommendations for food. I had the vegetable tacos which were good, just a bit messy and different from what I expected with the plantain shell. It was soft and thick reminding me more of a corn tortilla which isn't my favorite. Overall the flavors were good with an amazing side of hot salsa, but the prices are higher than what I expected. I did not have a great experience here. I ordered a dish that was plantain chips and pork with 3 sauces poured on top. I can't remember the exact name or details but I am just so over it that I don't want to look at the menu to check. Dry, and all this mayonnaise. Barely above room temperature. My friend Nicole loved the burger she got (and took this beautiful photo of). The music was loud and we needed to yell when talking to each other. Service was very slow. Our server was very sweet. It was her first day and she was doing her best. Wish that businesses in general would provide better support for new hires. Very disappointing overall. I didn't even have the desire to bring the leftovers home. Luckily Nicole put them in a box (I know she'll read this, otherwise I wouldn't have put it in the review hahaha). Elie's Chinchorro was a lackluster experience for us. The food was good, but the service and time to get ordered was not good. The place is very cute inside and somewhere I had been wanting to try for a while. We were sat right away. We were one of 7 tables when we arrived so not crazy busy or anything. Waters and menus came out quick and some complimentary bread showed up soon after which was very tasty. The issues started after that we didn't have our order taken or see our server for 45 minutes. There were multiple servers helping other tables just not ours. Once we finally got our order taken the food took another 20 minutes or so which is completely fine in my opinion. Everything came out fresh. We had a beef and pork empandilla. The pork was definitely the star of the two, had awesome depth of flavors bouncing around your mouth. Beef was still good just would stick with pork next time. We wanted to try multiple things so we ordered the Truya which is a sampler platter, the plantains were very good, the chicken chiccaron and fried pork were both good. The turnover and alcapurria were also good just wish we had a salsa of sorts to put on them to help with some dryness. I also ordered the pernil al horno plate. The roasted pork was very good, ton of flavor, not dried out at all. The habichuelas (beans) were amazing tons of flavor used them as a dipping sauce for some of the platter items since we didn't have salsas. Overall the food is good if you don't mind waiting a long long time for service. Would maybe try it again for apps and drinks. Not sure I'd be back for lunch/dinner without a tester of service for drinks and apps. read more

My review doesn't have to do with the food but the service. I ordered the shrimp plate and asked for beans and rice as my side. Every bite of the food was super seasoned and delicious. The garlic toast app they hand out when you arrive was also very good. To drink I ordered a piña colada without alcohol. The reason why I gave 3 stars is because though friendly when my friend, her daughter, and I got seated we were the only people on the restaurant. They took our orders everything was fine but then we waited and waited no food. Then about 20 minutes later her daughter received her meal. Then we waited and waited no food had arrived for my friend and I. And we were still the only customers. Time passed and another family entered. We waited until 2:30 which had been an hour after we ordered and we have to tell the staff to wrap up our food as we had to leave and get to a meeting. They apologized and let us know that there had been problem with their ticket system. It put in her daughters order and not ours. I understand things happen with technology but we were the only customers within 10 ft away and they didn't check on us or our order during this long waiting period they just chatted at the bar. The space has moved from the original location to a much larger, spacious venue. The decor is relaxing, bright, and inviting. Never having been there before and never having had Puerto Rican food, I asked questions and our waitress patiently explained the menu items, which were totally foreign to me. Most of the items seemed to be plantain based. Big Bro got a sandwich called jibarito. It had pork, some other meat, and plantains instead of bread. It was huge and awkward to eat. He thought it would be spicy instead of sweet and would not get it again. I ordered a vegetable burundango which was little fried plantain bowls filled with boiled vegetables. It came out at least 10 minutes before my brother's food. The server was a different person than the order taker and didn't know the name of the dish. He put it in the middle of the table like an appetizer, which it was not. By the time the sandwich came out, my food was cold. I think it would have been better while still warm. If I was familiar with Puerto Rican food, I would love having a place to go to get my fix. I'll probably try it again, but my first go round was just ok. read more

We tried Ellie's Chinchurros on 16th and Cuming tonight. They have a small parking lot but we were able to find off street parking just around the corner. Just the two of us , we were seated quickly, received 3 slices of garlic toast and waters. I had a delicious Pina Colada and hubs had Long Island tea. They were out of pizza empanadillas so we had a Carne Empanadilla each. All of those were served within adequate time. The meals, however seemed to take a long time to time. I ordered the Ellie burger and hubs had cheese steak. We both felt that we could have each ordered additional empanadillas instead of the meals. We were stuffed! The owner, Ellie, did personally come to the table for a couple of minutes which I thought was fantastic. I hope she continues to do that. Love the atmosphere and the umbrellas outside are so cute. Overall, we had a really great experience with the atmosphere, service, and food at Elie's Chinchorro! This is truly one of the few Puerto Rican Restaurants (outside of Chicago) in the Midwest where the food was reflective of that of Puerto Rican food on the island! If it's your first time to Puerto Rican food, something to understand is that some food will take time to cook from the time you order to when you get your food, especially anything that is mofongo/bifongo/trifongo based because those dishes need to be made fresh for maximum flavor and texture. I got the mofongo con pechuga de pollo de alajillo and I can attest that it was in my top 3 mofongos I've had on the island and mainland U.S. All the food pictured had really great flavor and you could tell it was made fresh to order! If you are not fond of plantains I highly recommend getting a meat dish with a side of mamposteao (which tends to be a more moist than arroz con habichuelas). In terms of drinks, my go to is always the jugo de parcha (passion fruit) which, while I may be a bit biased, I feel makes it even more authentic to the experience! The staff and owner were also super welcoming and you can tell that they have made the space reflect a true Puerto Rican dining experience in Omaha, which I am very excited about and will continue to support! read more
