In town for a wedding, popped in to get a quick shape up and fade. Ask for Tiffany. Took my directions, confirmed with a digital face book exactly what I wanted. I was in and out with exactly what I wanted in like 20 minutes. What I really liked is they offer a wash after the cut so you don't need to take a shower right after. read more

Very happy with the haircut I received today from Mike, one of the owners of the salon. Made an appointment via their website. Upon arrival, I was greeted in a friendly manner by Mike's wife, Anna, the other owner, and she immediately took my coat and led me over to the shampoo station. The salon was clean and bright and stocked with amenities such as water and coffee. After shampoo, I met Mike and showed him a picture of the cut I wanted. He knew exactly what to do, and went to work. We had a pleasant conversation during the cut (an often overlooked amenity of a good haircut, in my opinion - ever had those awkward, half conversation, half silent experiences?), and the cut ended up looking exactly the way I anticipated. Best of all, it was $20 bucks. That's a great deal for a men's salon haircut. Definitely recommend. read more

Called last minute and was accommodated first thing in the morning for a blow out. The stylist (who didn't tell me her name now that I think about it) was gentle with my long, fine, easily tangled hair. Got a great blow out and flat iron that looked great all day and into the night. read more

This was my first time going to Cutting Edge after reading reviews and checking out their webpage I booked an appointment with Linda for highlights. Linda is absolutely wonderful she explained everything to me about what I wanted to do to my hair so I could make an informed decision. Staff were very friendly & the hand treatment was a nice bonus. Hope was very experienced and confidently applied root touchups to my highlights. I was amazed that she was able to achieve so much lightening in just 2 hours. I am very happy with my hair and will be coming back. I give 5-star satisfaction for the price I paid, but a final 4 stars just to reflect that it is not actually a 5-star Metropolitan fashion salon. The place I got my highlights originally did almost twice the amount of foils, and let the bleach/toner sit a lot longer (but it took 4 hours!) instead of going under the hot dryer immediately to rush things up. That said, the same amount of lightening was achieved (and I was AMAZED- she rinsed the toner out basically as soon as she put it on). Also, I got there a bit early to make sure I could find parking, and was verbally harassed by multiple people while I walked around the block to kill time - it is near a liquor store and a convenience store. So I chose this salon really based on the fact that it has the online booking component but I was also relieved to discover that this will be my go to salon from now on. The owner cut my hair (her. Husband is the co-owner) and wow did she do an awesome job. I have very long hair and the haircut was very well priced! (A lot is salons up charge long hair like mine). She also was super friendly and helpful. She gave me a consultation and even stayed extra late to educate me on the different types of color that would look good on me when I mentioned that I had been pondering the idea. Easy the worst color I've gotten in 15 years of getting my hair done. Though the staff is friendly and nice, don't be fooled by the way they "discuss your hair" with you before they start. While they may seem like they know what they're talking about, I ended up with nothing I asked for. Save your time and money. read more

I had such a fabulous experience at Cutting Edge and loved my cut. Jamie was my stylist and she did a wonderful job. She was very welcoming and fun to chat with. She does a great job at checking in about the cut and if you are liking the look & style of your new hairstyle. She was super friendly and just made the whole experience awesome. My mom used to be a hairdresser and as someone that has not had too many people cut her hair other than her mom, Jamie did a great job at making me feel comfortable. The setting is nice and inviting and has a great vibe to it. They constantly check to make sure that you are comfortable and I really appreciated their willingness to accommodate the customers. It is a great location and easy to walk to for those working/living near the Downtown Mall. The prices are very reasonable and they offer various coupons/deals for those that are interested. My most favorite thing though was that they were not pushing me to buy any products. I have not been to a ton of salons but I really dislike the up-selling and pressuring you to buy name brand & expensive products. I really appreciate the relaxed setting and just all around friendliness of Cutting Edge. All in all this was a great experience and I will definitely be going back for other services. read more

I got a haircut here yesterday bc I'm in town visiting some friends. Esther was my hair dresser and she was amazing! She talked me through every step of the wash, cut, and style, and my hair ended up looking better than I had even imagined! I usually go to an Aveda salon in NYC to get my hair done, but Esther did a better job than my regular stylist (and the price was amazing!!) I'll definitely be sure to come back here every time I'm in town. Esther is a gem, I recommend her 100%! I made an appointment beforehand, but you can also walk-in and wait for one of the stylists to be free -- I recommend booking online though. They even text you to remind you about your appointment! BEST BLOWOUT - Go See Stephanie! I walked in last Saturday with no appointment around 4:00 in the afternoon (they close at 5 on Saturday). They were pretty busy and I asked if they had time to squeeze me in for a cut and color. The owner called Stephanie over and she offered to stay late to do my hair. Talk about awesome customer service. Stephanie was amazing, she was sweet, funny and really knew what she was doing. I have a ridiculous amount of hair so she told me that a color job would be a bit more than usual. Before she even started she figured out the price and let me know exactly what it would cost me. I really appreciated that because I like to know exactly what I am paying for. Stephanie walked me through everything, told me exactly what she was going to do and made sure it was all okay with me. As we were finishing up I told her that I dont usually let people do a blowout on my hair (its really curly so it tends to frizz up when its done incorrectly). I told her that the only time I had gotten a great blowout was from a Paul Mitchell stylist and she told me that I had given her a blowout challenge and that she would really love to try if I was willing. Reluctantly, I let her do it and it was AMAZING. BEST BLOWOUT EVER. She put Paul Mitchell's stylist to shame. The owners were so sweet and accommodating and I had great conversations with everyone. All in all I was there for about 4 hours but it seemed like no time at all. I had an absolute blast and the cut and color came out perfect. It was exactly what I wanted. I highly recommend this salon and encourage everyone to go see Stephanie. She was everything I could ask for in a stylist and never made me feel like I was an inconvenience to her even though she sacrificed her evening to make me look fabulous. I have been getting nonstop compliments since I got it done and I cant wait to go back again! A+ for the cutting edge and A++ for Stephanie. The reason I gave them 2 stars is because my 1st visit was great. I had Esther. She was fantastic! I live near Philedelphia. After my haircut with Esther, I decided that everytime I came to Charlottesville I would have her cut my hair. You can even book online with your stylist which I did in advance of my next visit. I came to Cville on a Saturday. Forgot the time of my Monday appointment. Looked online. There was another stylist's name in place of Esther's! I called. They told me she NO longer worked there & that she had gone back to Las Vegas. Management had lied to me!!! I found Esther at another salon in Cville! In addition they had never called to tell me they were sticking me with another stylist. I definitely do NOT like the way they run the place. Will NEVER go back & neither will my grad school daughter that got me going there to Esther. read more

I can't believe this place hasn't been discovered yet. I had a botched haircut (in Africa... okay maybe I was asking for it), and Angie took time to talk about what I wanted, how to care for my hair as I grow it out, and listened to what I said! I don't think I'm particularly picky - long layers, angled bangs, no color - but I've had trouble finding someone in Charlottesville who will take the time to listen to what I want (when I say 1/2" that's what I mean) and doesn't charge $60 for a haircut. I am completely stumped as to why this place isn't getting more business! read more

I'm new to Cville and decided to go to the Cutting Edge because it is within walking distance from where I'm living and because of the reviews. Mostly, i went because they are open on Sundays. Nobody is open on Sundays so this is great. Glenna colored my roots according to my previous hairdresser's written instructions and also gave my hair a good trim. She did a great job on both. The salon is very nice and super convenient. Their prices are very reasonable and they do a very good job - what more could you ask for? I really like their online booking system too. read more

Stephanie gave me balayage color and a trim at the salon. She designed my hair color over the course of the service to fit the picture that I had in my mind. She listened to me and gave me exactly what I wanted in a cut. The final result is fabulous! She was great to talk to as well and had an amazing personality! I went in for an asymmetrical cut and the staff was super helpful. I called on a whim they fit me in the schedule and when I got there they spent at least 20 minutes talking me through the logistics and feasibility of the cut in relation to my expectations and goals and then over an hour making sure it was perfect cut for me. This place was WAY over priced for what it was! I came here a few weeks ago to just get my hair trimmed. I have long wavy to curly hair with lots of layers. When I called for an appointment, they told me it would be an extra $10 because my hair is long. I appreciated they told me that up front. I didn't mind the extra cost because my hair typically takes longer to cut because it's so long and thick! They also said they would charge me extra to flat iorn my hair. I didn't want my hair flat opened so I skipped that cost. Well I was not satisfied at all with the actual haircut. It took her less than 15 mins to wash and trim my hair! She only tried the longest and shortest layers. I had to reminder her twice to thin it out. Then she told me I shouldn't have my hair textured or whatever they do to add more layers and to the ends so it's not just straight across. She said that curly hair should have that straight across cut. I never had it cut like that so I thought I'd give it a shot. Well she was WRONG! I would have gone back to get it fixed, but unfortunately I have left the Virginia area. read more
