My experience at Studio 3.6 was wonderful! I went in to get my very dark hair bleached to platinum, which was a major undertaking. As this was the first time I'd ever colored my hair I was a bit apprehensive. However, Katie was amazing in helping me understand the whole process and in using her expertise to make it look perfect. Not only is Katie very knowledgeable, answering all my questions about hair care, she was also super friendly and accommodating which I greatly appreciated during the 8+ hours (in one day!!) that she worked on my hair. She really went above and beyond to help me get the very light blonde color I wanted, and was kind enough to correct some slight unevenness in the color a couple days later. And even after the intensive process of going from untouched dark hair to platinum, my hair still feels pretty healthy. What a wonderful salon experience! I've been doing vivid colors in my hair for the last 4 years and I moved to Charlottesville scared that I wouldn't find another salon that would hold a candle to my previous one. After a lot of online research, I made a consultation appointment with Jennifer. And that was actually perfect - that they have quick, 15 minute spots in the books to make a quick consultation so I could show pictures, get a sense of pricing/time, and get comfortable with the stylist. Jennifer was warm and listened to everything and answered all of my questions and gave me the right amount of confidence that I booked my appointment for two weeks from then! When I arrived, I was greeted warmly and offered beverages (although I brought my own, i know i'm in for a multi hour day with all over vivid color but good to know for next time) and Jennifer walked me through the plan she had with the inspiration pictures I sent. She had a lot of knowledge about all the products going into my hair and I really appreciated all of the explanation and answering my questions. Everyone in the salon was so warm and welcoming which is great when you're getting a full head of color like I am - it's a long day! Normally I do not write negative reviews, as I know how detrimental online reviews can be. I am a district manager over 17 locations, and understand that sometimes things happen and the business needs a chance to make things right, before the customer/client takes to the internet. However, I have attempted reaching out to the salon twice over the course of a week, asking for the salon manager or owner to call me back. Nothing. I sent these photos, upon the receptionist's request. Nothing. For the record, I want to say that my stylist was very friendly and I was happy with the cut and style of my hair. What I was not satisfied with was the color inconsistency and the fact that it wasn't the color I'd asked for. As you'll see in the photos, there are several sections completely missing color. The roots are significantly darker, as she left the color on them for 50 minutes before applying color to the rest of my hair. The ends of my hair are about four shades darker than all of the rest of my hair, because the came back through and added more color to the ends only as she said the color wasn't "taking". I have been getting my hair done professionally for over 15 years, so I understand that sometimes things happen. I also understand that sometimes the color you want isn't possible in one sitting. But I'm this case, they missed the mark completely. What I'm most disappointed about is the fact that nobody even cared to take the time to call me, after I asked requested a call back to discuss my concerns. I spent nearly $200 here, and had to go somewhere else the next day and spend another $180 to get it corrected. read more

So I'm out here visiting from California looking for someone to trust with my curly hair. My fellow curly hair friend found the girls, Leann and Rachel, somewhere online. We found a coupon on Groupon and booked appointments together. The place has 1208 out front and says suites. So don't look for studio 3 6 look for the number. Inside is a cute set up. Lots of rooms with windows and mini salons. With a very comfortable sitting area to wait in. We fell in love with the girls. They both cut our hair dry and washed up after. My friend was happy with her cut with Leann. Mine I asked for a trim to remove dead ends and add layers. I lost about 4 inches. I didn't get the top layers added in since my hair was dirty with products in it. Only outer hair got cut. It's a little uneven and bottom heavy. Rather than layered well like I asked. I would of went with clean hair if I can known they were dry cutting. Plus she brushed my curly hair after the wash with a fine tooth comb. Big no no for my hair. Overall I loved the girls and it felt like I was at a friends house getting a cut. I just didn't get the cut I asked for and I'm an hour away. 4 inches on curly hair is a lot. I love Leah's work so much I had to update my initial review. She's such a breath of fresh air - her skill and passion is super inspirational and everytime I'm in her chair I know she'll work her magic. I came in today with a long overdue need for a refresh on my long, thin, straight Asian hair (there is definitely an art to making a cut that creates body for my hair) and she gave me a beautiful natural balayage with a cut so stylish I did a double take in the mirror. Going in to the salon my hair was very badly damaged due to repeated malpractice from a previous hairdresser. Despite this, Kali was able to work miracles on my hair! She managed to get rid of the deadest parts of my ends while still keeping a lot of my length. But more importantly she was able to get me as blonde as I wanted while still keeping my hair healthy! She did this by paying close attention to each strand and removing foils and rinsing as we went along. The process took 5 hours but I could not be any happier with the outcome. I was offered drinks and snacks multiple times throughout the experience and enjoyed the conversation with all of the girls in the salon. I have had my hair highlighted blonde for many years. After moving to the area last year, I booked an appointment with studio 3*6 to have my roots highlighted blonde. The first hair stylist who colored my hair turned my hair a variety of shades of orange. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and tried her again and she made it even worse. The owner of the salon was gracious enough to fix my hair. I saw her for months after this and she could never get my hair back to the blonde it has been for many years. She was leaving the color on too long and I started having hair fall out in the front and baby hairs fried. My last visit I brought this up to her and she told me that since I didn't want my hair orange she needed to leave the color in longer. She hardly paid attention to my color process on the last visit. When I came in she was in the middle of doing a client's color. Then, she proceeded to do another hair cut while I sat with wet hair in the sink for 40 minutes for a "conditioning treatment." Then, she sat me under a hair dryer while she cut yet another client's hair. I was there for over 3 hours and did not even have time to get my hair cut because I had another appointment. Once again my hair was not the right color and I was told I could come back again in a few days and have it corrected. No thanks. read more

Tried this salon based on all of the great reviews and it didn't disappoint. Jennifer did a great job with my scraggly hair. She listened to me (a HUGE thing in my book) and was very careful with my cut, especially my bangs. She answered my questions about hair styles I'm thinking of trying in the future and was willing to ask somebody else when she wasn't sure of a technicality with my color hair (also a win in my book). Thank you, Jennifer! I was able to get into the salon same day and used online booking. As I understand it, the salon has recently moved locations. The building is under renovation but that wasn't a concern for me (not worth taking off a star). I came into Studio 3.6 for a partial foil and root touch-up with Leah. I have been coloring my hair for years and had some beautiful caramel/golden highlights and lowlights built throughout my hair. All I was looking for was to keep the color I had existing, but modify the root a bit, as the last time I had it touched-up, it was a bit too dark. I should have walked out of the salon when Leah was trying to figure out how to tackle my hair. Long story short, my hair is now a grey-ish/ash blonde with absolutely no dimension. All of the wonderful color that I had throughout my hair is totally gone and ruined. My hair looks horrible. I honestly have no idea what she did to my color to ruin it so poorly. But after highlights (no lowlights, despite me asking for highlights and lowlights in the partial foil), a root touch up, a glaze and then a corrective toner, because my hair was WHITE at first, I am stuck with this. My hair is damaged and dry and looks horrbile. Leah is a very nice girl, but unfortunately I have some serious repair that I need to do to my hair.
