I had never been here before and wanted to get a quick cut with some consultation on hair coloring. First of all, I loved the vibe and environment of the space! Very welcoming, love the plants, and I felt like I was a regular immediately! I saw Becca, who was not only super nice, but made sure I was comfortable&asked me many questions on my hair history and type, what I wanted exactly (and what I did NOT want, which is just as important haha). I love the way she cut my hair !! I have never colored my hair before, so Becca gave me a detailed rundown on everything which was very helpful. FYI, everyone here loves to talk to you, which I really appreciated as I love talking lol. Overall, I had a wonderful time getting my hair cut and am definitely coming back for future cuts and for my coloring! Thank you so much honeycomb!! read more

As a wavy/curly-haired person, I always feel nervous going to a new place for a haircut, but after coming to Honeycomb four times since moving to Cville, I can definitely say I've found my trusted salon in town! Crystal has talked me through different ideas depending on what I'm feeling and has shaped my hair for both short and long cuts, resulting in manageable hair that works with my waves/curls! And importantly, it doesn't turn into the dreaded triangular poof... I also appreciate that she takes into account what your typical regimen is when cutting your hair (I'm very minimalist aka don't typically style my hair with tools and like to either air dry or throw my hair into a bun); she has given me low maintenance tips on how to manage it that I continue to use. Definitely recommend coming here if you have wavy/curly hair! Note: The front door is a bit hidden between two larger shops so look for the yellow honeycomb sign on the door and go up the stairs and into the left door. They also provide parking validation which is great and you can book appointments online! read more

I just got a haircut with Skye and I am completely blown away. I'm in my 30s and this was the best haircut experience I've ever had! First, the place is SUPER cute - aesthetically so pleasant and beautiful inside! Second, Skye was a gem! She was a pleasure to talk too, absolutely beautiful inside and out and took so much care in STYLING my hair. She didn't just give me a hair she STYLED IT-- and I was shook at how cheap it was! From the booking process, to the products used in my hair and the care that was taken to give me the best haircut -- I am forever grateful. My only disappointment is I don't live here to make this my regular stylist! I am going to try to come back here one more time in my short stay here and get their curl course to bring out the natural waves in my hair I've been suppressing for over decades. I'm seriously obsessed with this place! read more

Such an awesome experience!! I had a medium cut with Hadley to put in curtain bangs and layers for straight hair. Love how it turned out and I really appreciated how she checked in throughout the process and let me know what she was doing. Made me feel like we were on the same page and a team to get the best cut! And the location itself was very homey and lovely, love all the plants! Definitely will be my new salon in Charlottesville :) read more

The Honeycomb is fantastic! I've been in a few salons around town and have not found the "one", however I stopped looking after I had my first cut with Leah. The girl is excellent with a pair of sheers! To me, my biggest priority to an awesome cut is that it should be low maintenance and manageable with use of 0 products. She rocked it. Leah listened to what I wanted and delivered one of the best hair cuts I've ever had. I asked for a relayer of my straight yet sort of wavy hair with a cut that would grow out nicely. After the first week post-hair cut, I couldn't stop marveling at how great it looked with out the need to blow dry, product, or brush it (yes I was that lazy one day). I was super impressed with how she was not only able to gauge the properties of my hair but she had the foresight to envision where the cut would go next while I grew it out. I really dug how Leah had such an easy-going personality which made it fun and relaxing to hang out as she cut my hair. I also really appreciated the fact that Leah took the time to answer my questions about how to achieve healthier hair without feeling like she was an infomercial for products. I would definitely trust this lady with a cut, and plan to do so again in the future! FYI - They validate parking, appointments can be made online, and their prices are competitive for the area. Their salon is located on the second floor of the building so make sure to look for the door marked "Honeycomb" and a set of stairs. Cheers! read more

I took a long time when I moved to Charlottesville (for graduate school) to choose a salon, because I have thick, curly hair and a bad haircut leaves me looking like a poodle...especially in the C'Ville humidity! I asked everyone I knew who had curly hair where they went, and it seemed that almost everyone went "back home" in fear of bad curly cuts. Eventually, a friend told me that her room-mate swore by The Honeycomb and Bella, the resident curly expert. Initially I was a bit afraid of the $50 pre-tip price, but this is definitely a "you get what you pay for" experience! First of all, the salon itself is fantastic. I knew as soon as I saw the resident dog, Clyde, that I was in a friendly environment. The décor is also seriously cool with an airy, modern vintage feel. The ladies also all have amazing tattoos...and even better hair. Bella is definitely the most experienced person who has ever cut my hair. She took the time to analyze my curls before she washed them and then we planned the cut. She was exceptionally dedicated to making sure that I was okay with each step of the cut and explained to me what she was doing not only with her scissors but also with products and the diffuser, which apparently I had been using all wrong! In addition to Bella's excellence, I also have to attest to the amazing product line they just started carrying: Davines. I had long been looking for an eco-friendly product line that also could manage my mane without giving it the "hippie" look, and this Italian, highly-sustainable brand was just the thing I needed. It smells amazing and leaves my hair soft, shiny, and set for a Virginia summer. I left after my cut with a few samples, but I soon returned (after some budgeting- these products are pricey but also very worth it) to buy the suite of curl-friendly products. All told, I have the best hair I think I've ever had and I look forward to returning in three months to see Bella and the salon again! read more

New apprentice, Hadley is a true gem!!! Had my hair cut today with Hadley, and I couldn't be happier!!!! The entire experience was so refreshing. Hadley took the time to actually listen and discuss what I wanted in a hair cut. She even showed me pictures to help verify we were on the same page. To me, that goes a long ways! She didn't make me feel rushed and her passion and love for her work was obvious. My hair is long and although not curly, it's thick and wavy. I wanted lots of layers without compromising volume. My cut came out so awesome! I feel it's the best cut I've ever had!!! read more

I have super thick, wavy hair and I've never known how to manage it. My whole was a battle with my hair until I met Claiborne. She gave me honest feedback on all my crazy ideas and hair pics I'd bring to her. She worked with my hair (instead of against it) and I've finally learned to love my hair. She's a master and so unjudgemental when I tell her I rarely wash my hair or use boxed hair dye for my roots. She's helped me take control of my through long and short phases. I can't imagine seeing anyone for my hair and so thankful to have her. read more

This review is somewhat lengthy but totally worth it. First things first, go to Leah if you have curly hair. And here's why... I'm from Los Angeles and went to school in DC, and then moved to Charlottesville to work at UVA. Needless to say, I've had a lot of good cuts from these major cities and was EXTREMELY skeptical about letting someone cut my hair from tiny cville. The main reason being I'm half black and half white, and honestly A LOT of ppl can't cut curly hair. Adding some black texture to it kinda throws people off. Also, not many mixed people in cville so I figured they didn't have much practice in my hair type. I found a few reviews on here for honeycomb and curly hair, and Leah had several reviews. Way more than anyone else that I could find, so I cancelled my appt at moxie and tried Leah. Leah is AMAZING. She first asked how are my curls and I told her. I told her I wanted a trim, some volume (somewhat loose but tight curl pattern) and try to keep a little length if possible. Mind you, no one has ever really been able to keep the length but could give me the volume. I didn't even show her a pic because I didn't have a good one in mind but she listened and did her thing! She added internal layers... never heard of that but I'll be sticking to them from now on! I was so blown away by her work and she's so nice! I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted but Leah gave me exactly what I needed! I'll only be going to her for as long as I'm in cville. She's it for me and I'm 100% that any other curly girls will be super pleased with her work as well! read more

Wonderful place on the Downtown Mall, I'm so glad I came here. It was my first time ever coloring my hair and Hannah did an amazing job. The whole place has a relaxed fun vibe. All the staff were super friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable AND they played good music (which is important when you are going to be sitting there for 2 hours). I got an Ombré and I can't be more happy with it. If you are looking to get your hair colored you can definitely trust your head in their hands. Reasonably priced, great staff, wonderful experience. Truly a Charlottesville gem. read more

As the mother of a teenager, it was important to find just the right stylist to give my daughter her first service beyond a simple cut. Teenaged girls can be fussy about their hair. Leah made my daughter so happy! She's still grinning from ear to ear 48 hours later! Leah listened to what she wanted and suggested options for her hair type AND age. She new just what was best for my daughter's thick wavy hair. Get to The Honeycomb and ask for Leah! read more

I saw Ashley for my super duper curly hair. She is a curl hair expert! She did an excellent job on my curls and gave me a much needed cut and style after not having had a haircut for over 6 months! She definitely understands how curly hair works. What I also found refreshing was that she didn't immediately go for the blowout after the cut, she wanted to style it curly and even taught me a new technique. The conversation with her was also fun and therapeutic...which I find important in a hair stylist too! She also told me that all of the ladies at The Honeycomb understand curls, so I bet any of them would do a good job. You can view stylists, see their pricebook and book appointments thru schedulicity.com too. read more

I just got my hair cut and colored by Leah. She's technically a junior stylist but she did an amazing job. She wasn't exactly sure what to do to achieve what I wanted so she asked her fellow stylists for advice. I really appreciate someone who isn't too prideful and who is willing to ask for help when they need it. My hair had highlights that were growing out badly and she fixed it with an all over color. She was very prompt and the salon was really nice. It was also really affordable - I think because Leah is is junior stylist. Plus the owner brings her dog in sometimes and he was super sweet and he licked my toes. Bonus points for the dog! The only negative I can think of: a gentleman walked in without an appointment and the person at the counter was curt in informing the gentleman that they don't take walk-in's. read more

oh my goodness fellow curly haired ladies RUN do not walk RUN to Leah for your next curly haircut. Like just book it now. Leah knows exactly how to cut and style curly hair, especially if you're super curly like me. i left Honeycomb with all my length still intact but with beautiful volume, layers and clean ends. I also took away a couple tips and tricks from the cut, such as how to better build volume at my root and twist out for even curls. I will definitely come back! read more

I'm pretty picky about who cuts my hair, since I love having my hair long and it seems like every hair stylist I meet thinks that short is the way to go. But after having at least four other people personally recommend The Honeycomb, I knew that I had to try it out. First, scheduling an appointment was so easy. Obviously, you can call and set something up. Or you can visit their page on Schedulicity (https://www.schedulicity.com/Scheduling/THEBJL) and pick a date, time, and hair stylist that suits your schedule. Since everyone who had recommended The Honeycomb had personally recommended Claibourne, I went with her and was very pleased. She did a great job of listening to what I wanted, making sure that we were both on the same page, offering recommendations when I was unsure about something, and checking throughout the haircut to make sure everything was on track. She also checked a few times at the end of the haircut to make sure I was happy with the final product. All-in-all, I was very pleased with her work. Update: The last time I went, for a pre-graduation haircut, Crystal cut my hair and was also fantastic: she listened well, kept me updated throughout the haircut, and asked for feedback to make sure we were on the same page. Everyone at The Honeycomb is very personable and welcoming. They also just moved into a new location which is super cute with high ceilings and exposed brick walls. They have a cute little waiting area now with couches next to the check-out desk and what looks like 4 hair-cutting stations. The entrance to the new location is right off the downtown mall. Although they're talking about trying to get a sign put up outside, there's currently no indicator that you're in the right place until you go in the door and walk up the stairs (Suite 104). They also offer gift cards! I would definitely recommend The Honeycomb. $50 for a women's haircut is not a bad price to pay, especially with such thoughtful, personable, and competent hair stylists! read more

I had such a great cut with Crystal yesterday, and wanted to chime in with everyone saying what a great salon Honeycomb is. Their product line is super eco friendly, and the two products I bought ('love' curl cream and the leave-in volumizing conditioner) are some of the nicest I've had in a while. Love the ambiance, very welcoming and laid back, with really well curated decor for your eyes to wander over as you enjoy your appointment. Crystal is brilliant. She did a really thorough consultation, asked a bunch of questions to make sure we were in the same page, and would pause our conversation occasionally to check in. Love the cut and will definitely go back. They validate parking/give yourself extra, extra time to find a spot. I had no idea downtown was this crazy on a weekday! If you're new to town or are looking for a new stylist, check them out, for sure. read more

This is a review specifically for their colorist, Jahnavi. She is amazing. I'm new to the whole world of colored hair and was terrified about damaging my hair and the constant up keep. Jahnavi was great and very reassuring. We chatted about what kind of color I wanted and what kind of maintenance I was willing to do. I love the look of platinum blonde hair but who has the time and money for that? Instead we did a beautiful ombré with the ends being very light. It looks stunning and it's been over 4 months since she initially colored it. It's so easy to maintain and even though it was slightly expensive on the front end ($150 maybe? Remember I'm a hair color newbie) I think it was worth it considering I only need to go every 6-8 months or so since it grows out so nicely. Side note: I've also had my hair cut twice there but haven't loved either experience. I will probably try a different place for my next cut. read more

I had a haircut/trim appointment with Anna, the junior hair stylist at The Honeycomb. She was great and lots of fun and listened to all of my requests about my hair. My haircut turned out great and she was really patient. I really recommend her! Her rate is about half compared to the other stylists there but she is just as skilled. Bang trims are also free at this salon and you can schedule them a few weeks after you get your initial cut. Will be coming back soon, thanks! read more

I like them. Laid back atmosphere with great stylists. I was unsure of my cut and Anna gave me a 2 week insurance guarantee, so I was able to feel good and get exactly what I wanted. Went back and Anna made my cut perfect. read more

Caroline absolutely fixed my hair. Some other barbershop butchered it and she totally fixed it in 10 minutes. Highly recommend.

Mary did an amazing job with my hair. I got a major cut (about a foot) and she listened to me and checked in with me about length, style, etc. the whole time. She helped me feel empowered to make the decision to cut my hair super short during a consultation and took time getting to know me and making sure my hair looked just how I wanted. I appreciated her attention to detail and her willingness to spend time making sure that my hair turned out the way that I wanted it to look. For the service, the rate was unbeatable. It was definitely the best haircut I've gotten in Charlottesville by a mile. I will be back. read more

So I'm a person who has lived in major metropolitan areas and have not been able to find a hair stylist that I liked (4 years in DC - I should have found someone!) - I would plan trips home based on when I needed my hair cut and go to my trusty salon. Being in Charlottesville for just under a year, I finally caved and checked out Bella. Do you ever feel like you're a really picky person, but don't want to tell the stylist that in case they judge you? I kept that nugget to myself, though of course walking in was worried I'd get another mediocre cut and color that was just wrong. The moment I met the ladies in the salon (and the handsome, friendly pups!) I knew I would be in good hands. I immediately felt comfortable with Bella, but regardless of her general awesomess, I walked out with an amazing cut and color! She was incredible! Not only that, she knows the fine balance of when to have a lovely chat and when to let the client just sit there in the bliss of being pampered. If I could give them 6 stars, I would! (also, they validate parking :) ) read more

I got a blowout done here in April 2016 and my hair turned out looking crispy/fried. I will not reveal the stylists name, but needless to say I was disappointed. She told me that my hair turned out the way it did because I had not cut it in a long time. I didn't believe her though because the last blowout I got, my hair turned out looking sleek and nice and I hadn't had a cut in 6 months! I gave The Honeycomb two stars because the stylist did offer to fix it, but I decided not to take any chances and went to Shear Power instead. $42 wasted. Que lastima! read more

Jahnavi is an absolute GENIUS with hair color...she takes my light mousy brown and turns me into a blonde. Absolutely love her! Super easy to book appointments online through Schedulecity, which is a big bonus :) PS- if you park in certain downtown garages, Honeycomb will validate for 2 hours' parking, woot! read more

Mary is so sweet and personable. I get long layers from her whenever i don't do it myself for a simple clean up to my long hair. I'd give Mary 5 stars because she's the bomb but the receptionist is just straight rude- to me and to my girlfriend who was dropping off my kids to me at the end of my appointment. Props to Mary! None to the rude male receptionist read more

The Honeycomb - Color from Jahnavi! - Hair Salons Near Me - Charlottesville, Virginia

Wonderful, hip place with talented stylists. I have naturally thin, baby-fine hair that is also curly. No stylist has ever known what to do with it, so for2 decades I generally trimmed it myself and accepted it would always look like crap. Occasionally I'd go to a salon and spend $50 for an uninspired bob and blowout, leaving feeling foolish. Anna, who has since moved on, gave me my first inspired,STYLISH cut in life. Leah, who still rocks it hard at the Honeycomb, has kept up my style and even salvaged my hair last year after I fried the bejesus outta it with peroxide. Worth every penny read more

I made an appointment here after doing extensive research as to who does good color. I've been doing my own color for a long time and it got way too dark and I needed professional help. Well all I can say is my experience with Jahnavi and the Honeycomb was awesome. The color looks amazing with golden highlights that look so natural that it looks like I was born this way. Not only that but so many hairdressers claim they know how to cut curly hair and they don't. Here's where once again Jahnavi excelled. So happy that I found a salon that feels like home. Thank you!!! read more

I just had my second haircut with Ashley, and love it as much as the first one. I have a ridiculous amount of hair and have always had a hard time finding people who know what to do with it. What I appreciate about Ashley is that I walked in, described - in probably annoyingly vague terms what I wanted - keep the length, lose a lot of the weight, clean it up, etc, and she looked at my hair, described what she thought would look good, got my feedback, made some adjustments, and voila- a great cut! She's also very personable, interesting, and fun to talk with while she's working. My mom has been going to the owner, Claibourne, for years and years and raves about her and the salon. The space itself is fun and interesting, and very comfortable. I highly recommend. read more
