I have been seeing Leslie for three years, and can vouch that she is an excellent stylist. She is detail oriented, easy going, and very reasonably priced. Her new location, right next to Spud Nuts is charming and convenient, and has ample parking. I asked her to make me look like John Snow from "Game of Thrones" and she totally nailed it. Thanks Leslie! read more

Went there today and while Leslie was nice and chatty her work ended up being terrible. Looking at the cut all styled in the salon it looked okay-ish, but once I was home, washed my hair and actually saw the cut, it was ridiculous. Instead of getting the pompadour I asked for, I ended up with a very strange mohawk which was longer in the back than in the front. Fortunately, my fiance was able to fix it up at home and now it looks acceptable but not without a lot of hassle and alterations. I simply cannot recommend Leslie because if she talked a little less and paid a bit more attention to what she was doing to my hair, I wouldn't have ended up with a haircut which was beyond ugly and made no sense. read more

I recently got my haircut for the first time with Leslie, and was very impressed for the following reasons: - First, I had mistakenly booked my appointment for the next month, but Leslie accommodated me on the spot. - Second, after going home with what I thought was a great haircut, I noticed that it needed a little extra attention in one area. I called Leslie and she invited me back in that afternoon and took care of the fix for no charge. - Lastly, Leslie is a lovely small business owner, and clearly takes great pride in her work. Her prices are quite reasonable ($25 for men's haircut), and she pays close attention to her work. As far as I can tell, Leslie offers the best value in Charlottesville. Definitely pay her a visit. read more

Found Hazel Beauty Bar in my search for a salon in Charlottesville that uses organic products and so glad I did! My hair has never looked better, all thanks to Zoe! She was so sweet and so talented with hair! Will definitely be back and recommending Hazel Beauty Bar to all my friends. read more

I trusted Leslie to cut off my hair for a curly pixie cut, and I have been so SO happy with the wonders she has done with my hair! 100% recommend! read more

I have been going to Zoe for a few years now and I am always impressed with how sweet she is and how great she makes my hair look. I have gotten so many different wild colors and tame colors too and she is brilliant at pulling it off. I have recommended her to several of my friends and they all love her work and only go to her now. The products she uses are vegan/cruelty-free and that is incredibly important to me. If you want to look your best, Zoe is your person! read more

I would never normally write a review for a small business that was bad because it is so hard to be an entrepreneur and everyone has bad days right? But...In this case I think it is imperative if you visit this salon (based on my experience) that you are prepared for what could potentially happen.. Hazels Beauty Bar is a one woman shop and a one woman show and that one woman makes all the rules.. This is not a place to go to relax or have an experience..I originally went here because I am new to Charlottesville and was skimming yelp for places that had good reviews...Leslie's reviews are great and I liked the idea of going to a mom and pop shop rather then your typical main stream salon..I guess I won't ever make that mistake again... I am not going to go on about all of the details about my experience because frankly I think it would hurt her business too bad but I will tell you VERBATIM some of the things that were said to me.. "If you had told me EXACTLY what you wanted in the first place maybe we wouldn't have this problem" "I don't have time for this you need to get up" "I charge people more when their hair takes FOREVER so instead of $40 you owe me $50" (This was after I had been there for an hour (in total from walking in to leaving) and was in the process of paying after she had kicked me out of the chair and made me feel bad for being distressed about the way she cut my hair) " The front of your hair is one massive cowlick" ( No this is not taken out of context) Now this kind of makes it sound like I just got a bad haircut or what I perceived was bad so I became a pain in the ass and wanted her to fix what I perceived to be wrong .....But that is not the case....and even if it was would normally an any salon be something that was occasionally expected and troubleshooted for ways to fix the problem.. I am a reasonable, personable and joyful person.. and was treated like dirt by Leslie..I was thrown out of her salon and sent home with a unfinished chop job...Her frenetic energy caused a bigger problem then should have ensued and as a result instead of an enjoyable experience that was paid for by ME I was sent home in tears and in shock... Just be prepared for her to act like a selfish ten year old child instead of a professional adult if ANYTHING goes different then she wants it to during your time spent in the shop I also want to add that a couple hours after my appointment Leslie called to apologize for the way everything had ended and said that she liked me and hated for it to have gone the way it did (she liked me? How would she treat someone she didn't like? Yikes) ..but also during this phone call continued to insinuate that everything was my fault or my hairs fault for that matter...(talk about push me pull me behavior) She invited me back in to fix it the following day which at the time I excepted but failed to show up for or cancel like a jerk I will admit..although I am sure the only reason she reached out was because she knew I was into reviews (hence why I went to her in the first place) and wanted to prevent me from writing one... All I can say in closing is the experience was mortifying and although this might not happen all the time with her its something you must be prepared for.. Cheers, Kaley read more

Been going here a few years now. She is very friendly and very good with curly hair. She also did my maid of honor and my hair for my wedding. both turned out awesome! I love going here and I started bring my husband here for his hair cut as well. She never gets it wrong. read more

Very cute decor, coming from a super stylist! You know it's a good sign when the stylist who owns the joint has good taste. Leslie is awesome. She's cut my hair, and my daughter's hair and done a fabulous job. AND her prices are really reasonable. read more

I got my hair cut here a couple weeks back and after reading such incredible reviews (with the exception of one negative, and in my opinion, completely unfounded review), I was not disappointed! I came in with a couple photos and was really looking for a change. Leslie did a great job at giving me advice- she was honest, genuine, and to the point (all while apologizing in fear that she might offend me...Haha) She was no where near offensive and I actually really appreciated her in depth consultation. She seemed to have a real understanding of what I wanted and it showed when my haircut was exactly what I was looking for. I will absolutely be coming back to Leslie. I really feel like she'll be able to get my hair where I want it to be. After living in the Charlottesville area for almost two years, I have finally found my stylist! read more

I found Leslie through her Yelp reviews and I'm ecstatic that I found her! She's been cutting my hair for more than two and a half years now, and there's a ton of reasons why I go back. First of all, she's a great stylist and has the passion you want with someone cutting your hair. When I described the kind of look I was going for, she cut my hair in a way that works with the way my hair grows. You know how some hair styles work differently with different heads of hair? Yeah, she notices that too and gets it right. When changed up my look and tried out some new styles, I started leaving her shop every month thinking to myself, "Dang, I think this is the best haircut I've ever had." Suffice it to say, she's great at what she does. Second of all, she's super personable. I used to hate getting my hair cut at other shops because it was became super awkward when the hair stylist would inevitably try and force some awkward, "I feel like I have to do this" conversation. Leslie is way different. She's fun to talk to, whether it's about some new restaurant, or some new movie, or a cool event in Charlottesville. She has a certain type of genuineness to her that makes it feel like you're talking to a friend who just happens to be cutting your hair. I could go on and on about the cool new shop location (it's gorgeous) or how I have two coworkers who see her regularly (and the husband of one of those coworkers) but a lot of these reviews speak to how great she is. She's a rockstar, and I only wish I can pick her up with her family up and move them with me if I leave Charlottesville. Until then, though, it's Hazel Beauty Bar or bust! read more

Leslie is nothing short of a miracle worker! She does a fabulous job with my mane (and I say "mane" bc that's what it is-- long, thick and coarse!) and I frequently get asked where I have it cut. I am always happy to pass along Leslie's contact information. As a fellow self-employed small business owner, I appreciate the care and attention that Leslie gives me. I couldn't be happier! read more

$25/mens haircut - Excellent experience, great value for quality. Leslie is booked generally weeks a head of time, so I didn't quite understand how lucky I was to land an appointment the same day. She operates her salon by herself...as in there are no other staff members. As such, I would expect there to be more potential for running late. That said, that wasn't my experience. I was most impressed with her efficiency and found her highly personable. Will be going to her again in the future - without question. read more

Zoe at Hazel Beauty Bar is the most amazing hair dresser I've ever gone to and trust me I've gone to a bunch! I'm from Atlanta where there are many more options for quality hair salons so when I moved to Charlottesville 4 years ago I was extremely disappointed at the lack of excellent colorists. I've been to all the "it" salons here and nobody impressed me until I found Zoe! She is a perfectionist, like myself, and truly the best colorist I have ever been to. I can't recommend her enough! And it doesn't hurt that she's very cool and fun to talk to! read more

I had a great experience at Hazel. I have been searching for a great stylist and think I finally found her. I got exactly the haircut I wanted. Leslie's consultation kept me from forgetting any details. I highly recommend this beauty bar. The personal attention and privacy here makes you feel comfortable and like the belle of the ball. If you want someone who can merge your personal aesthetic with great execution and design, you've found your place. I am still thrilled with my hair a week later, every day it still looks so cute and new. read more

Leslie rocks, and so does her new location! Most highly recommended.

Leslie was awesome! I went to her for the first time today with a big cut in mind (chin length to pixie). I have really fine hair and she did a fabulous job! I said I wanted texture for it to be really easy to do in the mornings. She did a BEAUTIFUL job. Her shop is adorable too. Highly recommend. read more

I honestly love Leslie. She is a one woman shop and she really likes to make her customers happy. Her shop is no frills, but Leslie provides great conversation and gives a great haircut. Best of all, her prices are right. I had an appointment for a blow out before some important pictures, and after chatting with Leslie, she decided to use the curling iron to give my hair more fullness and volume. She charged me the same amount as the blow out because she values loyal customers and wants people to leave her shop happy. read more

I came here based on high ratings and friends' recommendations, but was rather disappointed. I wanted a lot of my hair cut off (8" +); she suggested I donate my hair which required a shorter cut, so I did-- but she did minimal touching up after lopping it off at the ponytail, and virtually no styling (just a kind of scrunching). I went home and tried to curl it to make it look flattering, but it took months to grow back out. read more

Love hazel beauty bar!! I got my first real do, yes, my hair is so full of cowlicks and natural wave, I've never gotten a true cut. I now have a fading bob and love it!! I can straighten or keep my wave and looks great both ways. She does free consults so you can discuss exactly what you want...Thanks to my friend for this recommendation. read more

I have salt and pepper short hair with lots of colics, and salt & pepper hair. I wanted to stay natural. She does miracles with my colics and grey hair and I always feel like I get a contemporary stylish cut. As someone else said, she never gets it wrong. Also, she's a great person, fun to talk to. I feel like this is shop is quintessential cville. trendy earthy fun quality read more

I am a regular client of Leslie's and have been for the past 2 years since moving to Charlottesville from Boston. I have a couple of other friends who go to her as well, one of whom referred me to Leslie when I first moved here. I've always been pleased with my haircuts and my color (foil) and recently even began bringing my children in for "grown up" haircuts. My son just said to me recently that he thinks Leslie is a "good match' for me because she's nice, likes to talk about the same things I do, and gives me a "really stylish haircut." :) From a more adult perspective, I often have people ask where I get my hair cut/colored because they like it so much. And I like that, in addition to giving me a good haircut, Leslie is great at making style suggestions and seems to have a good eye for what looks good on a person. I consider myself to be a high-demand customer and quite picky so the fact that I'm very satisfied with Leslie says a lot. read more
