It turns out it was a chocolate factory eons ago. Now it's a restaurant run by the same family that used to make chocolates. The decor inside is a mixture of traditional old fashioned and some new. It's a good mix. The service is friendly and attentive. The staff speak English as well as Español and Català. We had a leisurely, late, typical Catalan lunch. We were there almost 2 hours and enjoyed every minute of it. To drink we had a pitcher of sangria (26€), which was a perfect accompaniment to our lunch. The starters were pa amb tomàquet i oli (4.90€) (lightly toasted bread rubbed with tomatoes and oil), and ensalata burrata (16.9€) (burrata soft cheese over thinly sliced tomatoes accompanied with rocket lettuce, sun-dried tomatoes and olives). For the main course we had fidueà negra amb langostino (40.20€) (a black paella but with noodles instead of rice, with seafood). Delicious! For dessert we had yummy Crema de Catalunya (8.5€) (this is like a creme brulee, but a slightly different taste and texture). We recommend this restaurant. You will enjoy it.

I don't even like most olives I've eaten in the US, but I couldn't get enough of Rene's olives. Apparently, we couldn't get enough of Rene's adorable Bartender, Stefano, because we made a point of stopping in to visit and eat Tapas every night. The entire Staff was so nice. The interior is bright, warm and welcoming with beautiful character. The signature dessert is amazing. It is a combination of a flat flaky, but not dry pastry that is topped with a delicious Liqueur. We conducted our own research project to find the best Sangria in Barcelona... I have to say Rene Cafe's was the winner of this quest for the best!

It was pretty good! I ordered the 3 course daily special, and selected the Iberian ribs in BBQ sauce as my entree. The ribs were topped by sundried tomatoes, which added a burst of flavor to an otherwise already tasty meal. Four stars for the food. I docked one star because the server told me they didn't accept credit cards, even though I saw a credit card machine sitting on their bar countertop. I don't know why the server lied. That little blip aside, the food is probably worth another visit. Just make sure you have cash on hand.

She said the bar was really busy - but they arrived shortly after we asked about them. The second round was much faster - and they sent complimentary shots to the table. So, you decide. Food: Starters: - Tomato bread, YUM! - Chicken croquet (my favorite) - Scallops (we all decided we could have done without) - Tacos (very juicy). I wish I took a picture of the menu, I don't recall what each dish was, but these are my best guesses. Main course: - Octopus (cooked perfectly!) - Steak (a little raw for my taste, but the potatoes and sauce it came with were great!) - Chicken something in a potato pasta or something like that (skip, too bland) Dessert: We had to get the sorbet in the shape of the succulent. I was very refreshing and better than i expected. The servers made up for the forgotten drinks and were very kind and even gave us recommendations of places to go out that evening. I would definitely go back!

We sat upstairs with a large party and had plenty of space. Our recommender said the food was phenomenal, but I personally found it to be just pretty good. I ordered the Thai vegetarian curry which was very good but salty. A decent amount of vegetables but much more rice than actual curry. My one friend who ordered a dish (which the name of unfortunately escapes me) with prawns, beans, and chorizo also shared this sentiment. Other dishes that received good reviews from the table included a cheese platter, the cactus dessert (mojito mousse and lemon sorbet), the fish of the day (which was cod), and the mushroom risotto. We also ordered a bottle of Cava Montjuic, which tasted similar to many other sparkling white wines. One problem to note was that we were not alerted that the fish of the day had clams atop it, which posed a problem for the recipient of the dish who has a shellfish allergy. The staff was polite and understanding, though she did just have to order and pay for another dish. Overall, nice atmosphere and good food, but not as great as expected.

Everywhere we went needed reservation, but thank god this place had some space. Felt like a local spot, since everyone around us was speaking Spanish. We ordered the octopus, patatas bravas, pan tomate, and croquettes. I am someone that dislikes potatoes, but wow these potatoes really blew me away. Perfectly sliced and fried, the sauce was also impeccable. The octopus was also very tender and paired very well with the sauce. Everything tasted fresh and crisp, such a great find. Slightly pricier than I expected restaurants to be around the area, but definitely a trendy and worthy spot. Bottled water was also like $1, which was amazing. Atmosphere 10/10 Quite loud, a lot of conversations going on inside, but I enjoyed this vibe. Very lively and young crowd, we fit right in. Great interior decor, a lot of marble and brass details. Service 8/10 They were friendly and happily entertained our attempts at speaking Spanish, a good time.

The restaurant front is small and unassuming but on the inside it goes deep in terms of length. There were not that many people at 7pm but by the time we left there were alot more. It seems people of Barcelona prefer to eat late. We ordered a Cava Brut rose called Verlanau which was served chilled and was crisp on the taste with deep flavor. Lumi had an ice bucket for us. Lumi was so helpful and nice during our time there. It was my friends birthday and Lumi was also taking pictures for us. She never showed any hint of apprehension at all, totally the opposite. We ordered the duck liver pate, foie gras which came with toasted rye bread. The duck was creamy and delicious. We also ordered the paella seafood. They bring it near the table and a waiter will place it on the plate with ample amounts of shrimps, clams, mussels and calamari. I believe the rice may have some octopus ink with the darker color and green peas. Bithbof us devoured our paella. The truffle chocolate balls were silky and chocolaty. It was a perfect evening to dine around. Met also the owner, i believe his name was Juan Carlos. He was a very humble and fracious guy with a big smile on his face.
