Came across this somewhat hidden, hole-in-the-wall restaurant while walking around the El Born neighborhood with my wife yesterday. The sign out front highlighted that they had both gluten-free and vegan options, so we decided to step inside for lunch. I ordered a Bao with tofu and pickles to start (3.80€) and then a tofu Bibimbap (9.25€) for my main course. For those who don't know, Bibimbap is a popular Korean dish that literally means "mixed rice." In addition to the tofu, it was served with sauteed vegetables and hot chili pepper paste on a bed of rice. My understanding is that it usually also is served with a fried egg, but of course, that was left off of my entree to keep the dish vegan. My wife ordered the Shoyu Ramen, made with rice noodles to keep the dish gluten-free. Everything was absolutely delicious! I only wish that we would have had the opportunity to return for another meal, but alas, that will need to wait for our next visit to Barcelona later this year. read more

Where to begin - is it the perfect crispyness on the outside of every bite, or the succulent and moist interior brimming with flavor. Or the wonderful "asian" slaw on the side made from fresh local ingredients? Who fucking knows but they are legit delicious. Go there and get this and some wine and be happy for like €7 or something ridiculous. Just do it. Ramen is ok, would not really go out of my way for but prices are quite cheap. Hear me out. I know Barcelona is delicious and not exactly world renowned for their Thai food but I was staring down the barrel of two weeks of potatoes; bread; eggs; and cheese and craving some noodles; veggies; and protein in the lead up to this. Enter Red Ant. While I wasn't blown away with any of the beers on the menu, the bibimpap was dope and the tofu bun delicious. We just finished our visit in the Gothic quarter area and was trying to find a non Spanish tapas/paella place for dinner before heading back to hotel, Yelp brought us to Red Ant. Yelp says it is a Thai restaurant but they are really serving all sorts of Asian cuisine: ramen, fried rice etc. We ordered the shrimp fried rice and pork belly stir fried noodles. Wow. It was like home cooking which is much healthier than I would have expected from a typical Chinese restaurant. No excess cooking oil and the flavour is just right. Ingredients also seem fresh. We got there before 8pm which was probably why we were able to get a table without waiting. We were staying around Urquinaona for our first few days in Barcelona and decided to try out Red Ant for lunch because my friend was craving asian food - curry or something spicy in particular. We ordered the sesame noodles with chicken broth and penang curry. At first bite we were speechless, it was really legit! Really hit the spot. The sesame noodles were too salty, but other than that the flavours were on point. Cool vibe and offers a nice variety of 'Chinese tapas,' however, some dishes were not seasoned enough and lacked flavor. Vegetarian ramen was nice, salt and pepper tofu was good with the sauce but tofu buns were bland and bak choy was too salty. Would only recommend to visit for ramen, or if you're a meat eater, I'm sure the meaty dishes were good. All in all a nice place but food needs a bit of work. Everything was so delicious here! I ordered the WOK style noodles with fried chicken. The prices were very reasonable as well! I even took some of my fiancé's food! He order chicken over rice. The chicken came with a sweet and spicy sauce which we both loved. The only slightly negative thing about this place is the location. Mosquito's sister restaurant, we came here because the other was closed. And I'm so happy we did! They had one of the best bibimbap's that I've ever tasted and the pork buns were freakin' incredible. Add to that a fantastic atmosphere and excellent service, and it made for a rather pleasant experience. Actually, to be honest, I think this place is even better than Mosquito. Which is awesome, because while all those suckers are standing, waiting in line, you'll be in here feasting and forgetting that Mosquito even existed (k, maybe not that extreme, but you'll be happy). I don't see the attraction to this place. We went for some ramen / soup. They were out of spring rolls so we opted for the pork dumplings. Too much fat on the pork slices for me. Would have been good if not for that. My wife ordered the vegetarian ramen and I ordered the sesame noodles with chicken broth. My wife didn't care for her dish. I tasted it and it wasn't good. Consider it Spanish style broth if you order it, not Japanese ramen. The sesame noodles with broth is deceiving. It is an order of sesame noodles with a small bowl of broth and green onions on the side. It is not a combined dish. The noodles were covered is some tasteless paste and the broth lacked flavor. I tried putting some of the broth in the noodles, but it didn't help. I had a Montserrat stout which was OK, but I wouldn't consider their beer selection all that great. Typically I don't think a restaurant that serves multiple styles of Asian food very good and this was no exception. A jack of all trades and master of none. Sorry Red Ant, you don't live up to the 4 star rating. read more

This evening I ate at RedAnt for the first time (Mon 8PM). I have enjoyed Mosquito, which I believe is the 'brother/associated restaurant of RedAnt. Because I enjoyed Mosquito's atmosphere, beer selection and food, I decided to give RedAnt a try. I would say that Mosquito is better because there is more personality on the interior. The beer selection at RedAnt is quality but not quite impressive. However, I enjoyed a nice bottled porter that the staff recommended. For food, I had a good bowl of Ramen Noodles with oven baked pork in the soup. I will order that again in the future- it's a 3.8 stars out of 5. I expect that most of their food items are similarly good because there are not many items from which to choose. The staff was kind and attentive. The restaurant was clean. Totally reminds me of a hole in the wall place you might find in New York. Small but can fit a lot of people. Lovely and yummy. Be prepared that you may have to wait a bit as it is popular, but it is a hidden gem worth waiting for. YES. We hit a point when we needed a change from traditional tapas and this hit the spot. Cozy restaurant (might want to call ahead to reserve your seat) offering ramen bowls and lots of beer. Surprisingly good noodles - at a more surprising price (around €8-9). We also split a green tea mochi for dessert - yum! I would suggest walking there along major streets at night. The smaller streets around the restaurant are mostly closed up in the later hours, and for my own sense of safety, I prefer walking on streets with more people/activity. (Not at all suggesting that this is in an unsafe neighborhood! Just a heads up on quiet streets) Would definitely come back! read more

Came here to see if they lived up to their reviews. Ordered the Chiang Mai Curry since it was the "curry of the day" & was only 7,50€. They didn't bother to tell us that we'd also be charged another 2,50€ for the rice (which they brought out without asking us if we wanted it). The curry wouldn't be edible without the rice so really it should be included in the price or they should tell you that it's necessary & you'll have to pay for it. The staff was also very rude, replying in Catalan whenever we said anything in Spanish (I'm from California, I don't know Catalan & I know damn well that you know Spanish). Also when I glanced over at the bar, I saw that there were bugs crawling all over their tea collection.
