Traveling to Barcelona from California who would have thought of getting Sushi in Barcelona? Well it's Japanese and Brazilian influence which didn't sound appealing to me until we went into Ikibana and the decor was different was like we were in a forest or something and the service was great and tentative to our big party. The food was good everything from starters to the main dish some of it was small so we had to order more but the food was just spot on. Who ever thought of a sushi roll with wagyu not saying it doesn't exist as I haven't had it before and it was wow. We had so many different dishes and I failed to capture all the photos and the names of all the dishes. But since we had a big party there were many dishes and no complaints everything was good in the menu. I'd definitely come back and try different dishes. read more

Me and my friend came here accidentally after the Beyonce and Jay-Z concert as we kept trying to walk away from the stadium as far as we could as cabs were not easy to catch and uber seems to be frowned upon in Barcelona. It was our last night in Barcelona, and as always, we try to look for that one restaurant to have a memorable meal. We just left the Plaça d'Espanya and just started wandering around to our hotel. We passed several restaurants and then happened to come upon Ikibana. The patio was full and we were greeted with a cheerful, "Hello, I'll be with you in a moment." Then a hostess came out and asked if we wanted a table (in Spanish), at least that what I thought she said. She then switched to English. I guess my accent gave it away. We were given a high table near a wall that gave us a great view of the whole dining room. Very relaxed and inviting atmosphere. There were a number of diners inside and everyone looked pretty happy. Our server, Yuri, spoke pretty good English and was very pleasant and helpful. Even brought out some complimentary edamame during the meal. I think he felt some of the dishes were taking too long, but we didn't think so. I ordered a bottle of Rioja for the partner and a bottle of cava for myself, since I like champagne. Both were great! We ordered gyoza, Ipanema 6 roll, yakisoba with chicken, and Tataki ternera, which was slices of grilled beef. I didn't realize that the restaurant was Japanese and Brazilian fusion, but what a tasty treat! We also ordered two desserts: the caramilho and the chocolate petropolis, which both ended the meal perfectly. Great food! Great service! Fun atmosphere! The food was amazing. I'm traveling from The States and the take on the gyoza was very intriguing and delicious. Consuming the gyoza with hot broth with seaweed, onions and shiitake mushrooms was simply a taste of heaven in my mouth. The sushi we ordered were delicious as well. A little pricey in my opinion compared to The States but overall the place is a must go. Also, we had a few servers that spoke some English. The man who showed us to our table just seemed annoyed we even wanted to eat there. He only gave us a drink menu and pointed to the QR code on our table for the food menu. We tried to pull it up but both our phones had iffy service from being overseas. Within minutes the waiter came over and asked us if we were ready to order. We were not as kindly asked for a paper menu. He kept pointing to the QR code and then got all huffy when we asked again for a paper menu (which the white, American couple next to us had; we're not Caucasian). Super rude and would not go back. Do not come here. My wife and I sat at the bar and we witnessed: 1. I saw a sushi roll returned to the bar by another patron. The sushi "chef" wiped the sauce off the roll. Another "chef" then added some other items. It was then served to us. I refused the roll and they just looked at me without saying anything. We walked out after witnessing this but they also had some more red flags: 2. They have premade rice and seaweed already made piled up. 3. Flies all over the counter 4. Fish, avocado and other items were all presliced and they would just add it to the roll and cut. Only fresh items we saw were their deep fried foods (shrimp tempura, chicken etc). For paying over 20 euros per roll establishment this is all unacceptable. This is bad even for a fast food sushi joint. read more

Bombastic japanese/brazilian restaurant in the heart of Barcelona. Literally everything on the menu is worth trying. You couldn't go wrong if you tried. We had the beef gyozas, the white fish ceviche, the tuna tataki, the buballoo, the okinawa maki, the hot geisha, the white fish nigiri, the soft shell crab maki, and the wagyu beef and they were ALL crazy good (there were 4 of us). My fiancé and I stumbled upon this restaurant while looking for a place for dinner and boy am I glad we decided to give it a try. Love at first bite is exactly how I would describe my experience at this restaurant. At first I was skeptical of how good Japanese food would be in Spain but I was pleasantly blown away by the complexity of flavours in a simple sushi roll, as well as the common fried rice. I would list this place as one of my top three favourite restaurants, hands down. I've already decided to come back tomorrow night. It really doesn't get any better than Brazilian-Japanese fusion, and as a vegan, I can appreciate all of the veg options. The restaurant manager Andrea is phenomenal! He makes sure to drop in on all the tables & guests to make sure nothing is amiss. Service is superb and the food is like nothing we've ever had; all of the dishes are so different and well crafted - it's like an explosion of flavors in your mouth. We love the bartender, Nacho! The drinks are like pieces of art with edible flowers and herbs and are just delicious. Fantastic. Me and me wife came here on a rainy afternoon, and this place brightened up our day. We had the menú mediodía, and it was in one word amazeballs. Looking to these fotos of what we ate that day makes my mouth water. Rich udon soup, tasty gyozas, voloptuous yakisoba noodles, amazingly fresh sushi rolls (kiwi? Genius) , very good salmon tataki (that sauce!) , and espectacular dessert. We recommend the tapioca and sesame. I can't wait to go back to Ikibana and try everything else. This restaurant is just unbelievable, from the decor, to the service to the food is absolutely delightful. I can't say enough great things. After my partners luggage being lost for a good three days of our trip, (surviving off touristy cafe's and expensive room service because he was too embarrassed to go to a nice restaurant wearing the same clothes for three days) he received his bag and we were off to celebrate. Therefore, our lovely hotel staff recommended a few places for us. Our number one choice was all booked so we went for our second choice. Oh boy are we glad we found this gem. The restaurants decoration is just magnificent, the restaurant itself is extremely happening and hip. By what I saw it has 3 floors and they're all equally happening. We opted for the outside patio. I do have to say we kind of regretted our decision because everyone around us was smoking. We came in with the US mentality where you're not allow to smoke in restaurants, even in outside patios & completely forgot everyone in Europe smokes. However, that's no biggie we still had a great time. As for the food and drinks, they were both delicious. I went for a lychee drink my waiter recommended and it was exquisite. The food was also very amazing and were very picky sushi eaters, everything was 5 stars! If we're ever in Barcelona again I will make sure to stop by Ikibana again. read more

But I also feel like we are a tad bougie when it comes to sushi. So if you rarely get sushi then you will be impressed and dazzled. If you're an aficionado then you will be satisfied...but not recommending it to your friends who say "where should we go to dinner when we are in Barcelona? You know all the great spots!" We could not have asked for a better place to eat on our last night in Barcelona. We were seated right away despite not having reservations. Even though we preferred to sit outside while we were in Barcelona, the ambiance of Ikibana is amazing. I would definitely eat inside to experience it. Drinks- Their bloody Mary is amazing! It has pureed celery in it and just tasted absolutely amazing. Food-We tried the 33Euro tasting menu which was absolutely perfect. They said the portions were "smaller", but it was more than enough food for two people. It came with two appetizers, three rolls, two warm dishes, and two desserts. I can't speak to the authenticity of the Brazilian part of the fusion, but the rolls were fresh and amazing. I also can't say enough about the service here. We had several servers and the manager checking on us frequently. They exceeded all of our needs and expectations. Overall, just a great experience! Dinner at Ikibana was the absolute highlight of 2 weeks in the south. I can say with confidence that it was the best restaurant we've been to so far this year. Everything about it was perfect - the weather, the table, the staff, the food. We had the salmon ceviche, asparagus, São Paulo Way Uramaki, Bruce Lee Spicy Maguro Tempura, a couple of nigiris and the Wagyu Entrecot. If this restaurant doesn't get a Michelin star in the next year or two I'll be shocked. Absolutely add this to your list if you head to Barcelona. read more

Re coolest thing about this place is that they serve the actual wasabi plant (along with the usual ginger and wasabi paste alongside their sushi). The actual wasabi plant is something I've never seen or tried before and it was wonderful (by the way I hate wasabi paste, and this was great). 3 starts mostly for the snobby service. We walked by this restaurant a few night before we dined and the interior looked really cool so we decided to come to dinner on a Sunday night. When we arrived around 7, it was 100% empty, but they rolled their eyes when we said we didnt have a reservation. While the inside decor is the real appeal, we chose to sit outside as the weather was nice. After about 15 min, 3 other parties were seated. It took a very long time for the server to greet us, provide menus, take drink orders, get the drink, order food, get the food and to get the bill and pay....you get the idea. And we had places to go, like the Barcelona vs Madrid futbol game! My husband and I both enjoyed the beef gyoza. When trying to order sushi, we asked to order the Babiano Iramaki and the server said, no its not very good. So odd! We asked her for recommendations and she listed off rolls all with mayo and cream cheese, which we personally never order. It is my advice for servers to ask what you like before dissing your order and offering their preferences. We ultimately ordered the Bubaloo roll, but both agreed we may have like the other one more. We also ordered the yakisoba noodles, which I liked but my husband who is more of a food snob that me :) wouldnt take more than one bite off. Overall, a few good dishes, a few misses, but terrible service and an odd waitress. read more

The reviews and photos made this place seem like a unique sushi experience, but it was one of the worst dining experiences I had in Barcelona. Once seated, it took 20 minutes for anyone to take my order. I even tried to flag them down several times. The menu seemed interesting, but everything I ordered was bland or underwhelming. The sashimi wasn't anything special, and definitely not worth the price. Ordered Edamame and Hot Sake with the meal, and they both came 15 minutes after I was done with he Sushi. Food was acceptable, but ... - many rolls were pre-made, sitting waiting for orders - nothing was remotely Japanese; granted, it is a "Brazilian" sushi restaurant ... if you understand the distinction before going, you will probably be happy with the food. - my son ordered the Black Angus dish. It was nearly inedible. This was the one unaccetable part of the meal. The dish was 19+ EUR. - the price is extremely high and the quality is only acceptable; in other words, the value is just not there. The wait staff also is clearly trained to push whatever the management wants to serve that night. I repeatedly asked about "traditional Japanese" options. And repeatedly our waiter suggested a roll that is deep-fried. I noted later that this particular rolls was being churned out of the kitchen even when orders were not in for it. If looking for a hip, loud (i.e., high energy) restaurant that has some tinge of Japanese cuisine, this is not a bad option. If you are looking for Japanese sushi (this is the first time that I have had to distinguish sushi), look elsewhere. read more

I would like to rate Ikibana a 4.5. This is one of the best higher end restaurants in Barcelona I've had. The staff was extremely friendly and the presentation of the food was really nice. Atmosphere in the restaurant is well thought out too and it looks really beautiful inside. The sashimi was very good and fresh and the sushi rolls we ordered were nice too. The fresh wasabi was also really nice and I've never seen that before. However I won't give this place 5 stars because I didn't really understand the Brazilian influence in the food, it seemed mainly Japanese. Also for people from North America who have eaten at Nobu this is nowhere on that level which I was desperately hoping it would be. Very very good restaurant but won't be the best Asian fusion you eat in your life. Not sure if they have English menus as I was with Spanish people. read more

Hands down the best sushi I have ever had! and the best mojitos as well! You can't go wrong with any of the rolls you order. My reservation had about 7 different rolls and every single one of them was OUTSTANDING! Although it was pricey (especially for students studying abroad) it was worth every penny.
