Easy to get a rez and was half empty at 8ish. Started off with Baos - sea bass was exceptional as had good mix of flavors and cooked well. The first time I went I really liked the vibe, food and staff. The following year, when visiting (I go annually for 10 days) we went again. It was noisier, seemed like less air circulation and we felt rushed. The food was overly garlicky this time too. Everyone at the table (6) said the same thing. My jacket smelled like the restaurant that night after we left. Not sure if we will go back next year. I really wanted to give this place a high rating. Some context, I'm from San Diego, CA and we have excellent Asian food accessible to us. I was missing some home flavors and came to this place because of its high ratings. The am since is cool, the music is catchy, the menu of drinks is cool. We ordered the classic pho, the chicken laarb, a salty pepper fried calamari, steamed eggplant (which never came) and for drinks the pandan curaçao and the insane in the membrane. The drinks were good but fell short of my expectations having been to the 52 remedies speakeasy in San Diego. I couldn't taste the alcohol in the pandan curaçao drink but it was yummy. The insane in the membrane drink was served in a funny monkey head cup but was more ice than drink. I would give the pho a 6/10, not bad but a bit salty. I would not order the laarb again. The first couple of bites were good but then it was just too sweet. For those of you familiar with Mexican mariscos, it tasted like a chicken ceviche but with too much ketchup. I'm not saying they out ketchup in the laarb but it was too sweet and didn't balance the sour. I would give the fried salt and pepper calamari a 10/10. The sauce that went with it was ok but the calamari was nicely fried. I would order the calamari again. I would give this place a 6/10. I personally would not come back but I there were so many other items we didn't try. If you are from CA and are used to the laarb and pho from there, manage your expectations. read more

This became my final meal in Barcelona (and Spain for that matter). I got a seat around 7:30ish PM at the barstools across from the chefs pretty quickly. My final meal was quite simple: the Veggie Pho. It didn't disappoint. In fact, it was so good that I even forgot to take a photo of the Pho. That's a bummer - but it's a great place nonetheless. There's a 2nd floor for more seating and I saw a couple groups of people hang out for tapas I guess. It's a pretty cool vibe. The WC/restrooms are very clean too. Quick service. Loved the window seating with view of the square. Reservations needed if you come much later than 1:00 for lunch. You can't go wrong with this spot. Service is friendly and attentive. Pad Thai was a hit and come to find out it's their house specialty. Probably one of the best I've ever had. The Massama curry was pretty good but not five stars like the pad thai. We were also given an order of dim sum that we didn't order and were charged for despite informing the server. This restaurant's employees will yes you beyond belief and then don't deliver. My mom who was a former restaurant owner/cook, and typically critical of most places, had no complaints. Boa-Bao did it right. I'd say it was even better than some Asian fusion places back home in the states. Found this restaurant on Yelp. Took us 3 visits in order to try their food. First time we got there at 11:03pm and was told their kitchen is closed. Even thought Business hours mentioned they close at 12:00AM. Kitchen is closed at 11:00pm. So if you want to eat here, I would recommend come before 10:30pm. Second time we got there at 2pm for lunch. And found out they open at 7:30pm for dinner only. And finally we went last night and got seated right at 7:30pm. Service was good, however they don't know their tequilas. We ordered a Don Julio Anejo no ice, they brought us a Blanco on the rock. We told them we ordered a Anejo, they brought back the same Blanco but removed the ice. We didn't want to make a big deal out of it. So we drank it and was charged the Anejo price(which is higher). Ambiance is very good, my 12 year old likes their Hanoi pho. Personally I think their food is decent, may be because I expect too much? Great curry, great peanut sauce, great duck eggrolls (they say spring rolls but I don't think it's rice paper but maybe). Boa bao ! We went there for a dinner after looking for some Asian food in Barcelona. The reviews were good so we wanted to give it a try during our holidays! The sea bass bao was so far the best one I ever had! The bao dough is black because it's made with bamboo charcoal, and the fish was super tasty and chrispy. I went for a veggie curry after and i was still super happy with the food ( portions are really generous no worries ) the restaurant looks really trendy... you can go for a long dinner at a table or either grab some finger food with a cocktail at the bar.
