My mom was referred to Dr. Samyn for a root canal. The appointment was made for one week after the referral. Very easy to schedule and all the paperwork is online. After she checked in she was asked if she'd like to watch a movie during the procedure. There were several to pick from and the receptionist suggested one she had just watched and enjoyed. If she had opted not to watch a movie, Lake Washington is right outside the window. After the root canal there was zero pain! Hopefully I never have to get one, but if I do I'll definitely go to Dr. Samyn at Northshore Endodontics. There were no other patients during my moms procedure and I was able to stay in waiting area until her procedure was complete. One of my teeth was feeling pain whenever cold water touched it and my dentist sent me to see Dr. Samyn. I was worried that a root canal would hurt, but this was the most amazing experience I've ever had at a dental office. You can watch a movie while getting your teeth worked on. The entire root canal procedure was painless from beginning to end! The staff were warm, friendly and efficient too. This was a really good experience. Since I was in pain, I was able to get in next day. Needed two root canals. Both were painless. Dr Samyn even takes time to place the anesthetic so it didn't hurt either. Got to watch a movie with special glasses which is a great distraction while the doctor worked. Also the tooth pillow was great to keep my mouth open but also relax the jaw at the same time. I would definitely recommend this doctor for any root canals you need. I want to say this before I forget. I had a root canal retreated today before a new crown is replaced due to long roots not being completely removed 5 years ago. The whole experience was great. The front desk lady was super sweet as was the dental assistant and Dr. Samyn was great. The whole thing was pleasant - an unusual experience for me! But here's the part I want you to know. Dr. Samyn called me tonight... At like 9:30pm, just to check in and make sure I was doing ok. And I am, because they took good care of me! Too notch, all the way. What a class act! read more

This review is long overdue! I just had my second root canal done with Dr.Samyn today. Unfortunately, it was my second in 3 months, but going to Dr.Samyn and his staff made my experience all the more better. First off, they are always accommodating and willing to see me and squeeze me in because I often am one of those "emergency" patients. For my first root canal with Dr.Samyn, I was *very* nervous. I had moved to Seattle from NYC 3 years ago and had some really bad experiences with other dentists in the area. I was so pleased with this office - they were super friendly from the get go and really helped to put my mind at ease. Plus - you get to watch a movie during the root canal which really helps to distract you - who wouldn't love that? Throughout the visit, Dr.Samyn kept checking in to make sure I was OK and gave me a couple of little breaks in between to make sure I stayed comfortable. Again, I HIGHLY recommend Dr.Samyn. He is super knowledgeable and will put your mind at ease if you are nervous, because most of us are with root canals:) I also want to mention I have many general dentists in my family back east, and I tend to be a bit picky with who I see for my teeth. TL;DR - No Pain, I actually fell asleep during the procedure, Great service and did I mention No Pain?? On to The review! A little history - I was originally scheduled with my regular dentist to get a crown, but they couldn't get my tooth numb even after they said they used much more than normal. It was too infected - so they referred me to Dr. Samyn. I went in recently for a Root Canal(RC) on my lower left back molar. It was my first time getting an RC and all I could think of were the horror stories that you hear. "It hurts so much" or "I was about to tear the arms off of my chair". When I entered, it was the normal affair - fill out the forms, read the privacy notice etc etc. I was called and led into the room, my heart beating about 160bpm. I was SCARED - My dentist wasn't able to get the tooth numb and I was anticipating an hour and a half of pain. Some diagnostic testing - Cold on the different portions of the teeth, biting down on different portions etc. He started the numbing process: 1) Topical - waited until it did what it could. 2) Local - He would inject novacaine, and while I felt pressure, there was very minimal pain. THEN - He waited for a couple min to let that start. 3) More Local - After the initial local anesthesia was working, he continued to numb the area. I didn't feel anything during this because he let the anesthesia work before continuing. 4) Numbing the tooth - I don't know what he did, but it felt like a massager on my teeth. Didn't hurt at all, but whatever it was, it worked. This is all before any drilling started. The next step was to set me up with TV Glasses. You can watch a movie while they do their work - I chose The Pink Panther w/ Steve Martin. They cover the top portion of your face with a dark towel, so you can just focus on the movie. They placed a set of headphones on, and started their work. I FELL ASLEEP. Allow me to reiterate - I. FELL. ASLEEP. I felt nothing other than the occasional shift of my head for better access. When they were done (Almost exactly when the movie was over) I had some muscle soreness from keeping my jaw open so long. But this always happens. 1 day later and I feel no pain. I can't reccommend Dr. Samyn enough. My hope is to never see him again, but if I do, I know for a fact that I will be taken care of. read more

If I was rating just the Dr and his treatment, he would have 5 Stars, but since we have to deal with the staff as well I am giving 2. If I was rating JUST the receptionist, I would give 0 Stars. I dont know what is up now a days with customer service but she HAS NONE! read more

I was referred by my dentist to Dr Samyn to fix a root canal that had not been done properly by another dentist. Him and his staff, Cora and Heidi, were absolutely amazing. I have a huge fear of the dentist and they completely put me at ease! He had me laughing and we were joking around before the procedure which made me so comfortable. Best of all, it was a painless experience! They even stayed almost an hour past close to make sure I was taken care of. I wish he was a regular dentist so I could see him for all the work I need done! I would definitely recommend his office to anyone who needs a root canal! Wow, If all specialists in this field were like Dr. Samyn, no one would fear or dread having to go in. Firstly, Heidi, in the office - she is a doll. So friendly and efficient. Perfect person to front the office. I had a failed root canal. The dentist who performed it left a piece of cotton in the canal and did not fill it, there were voids. I have had a bad experience prior with wisdom teeth extraction that resulted in 5 and a half hours in the dental chair, awake, and a black and blue face. Dr. Samyn was so gentle and just perfect at his job. He put me at ease. Gave me great care. Manages any an all pain or discomfort. Was fast but also completely exceptional with taking care of the tooth. I just cannot praise enough. If I ever have a problem, I will only be upset if I don't have Dr. Samyn and his staff to care for me. Do not hesitate to trust them. read more

I've never been scared of the dentist and haven't had too many issues in my dental history. However, I was in incredible amounts of pain because of a deep abscess under the root of an old crown. They did their best to numb me up, but because of the infection and how deep it was, I did go through a lot of pain. However, they handled me very well. I was sleep deprived and crying on their table in a world of pain. The Doctor had warned me this would happen and Wendy did her best to soothe me even though I was being a giant baby. When I was numbed up some more we had success and it was taken care of. The best news was that the night after I felt amazing. The two previous nights I had spent crying to myself in pain. It's hard to imagine laughing during a dental procedure like a root canal, but that's the case at Dr. Samyn's. I have unfortunately had a LOT of dental work and several root canals. I dread them. This time I had a very painful tooth under a crown. I wanted a specialist closer to work and home, so I used Yelp to see what others had said about any area endos. Having a great dentist is in the top 5 most important things in life, especially when you're in pain. I called Dr. Samyn's office and due to a cancellation, they were able to get me in early the next morning. I found the staff to be professional and efficient. They convinced me to try the movie glasses. The office was so quiet and being anxious, I wasn't sure if I wanted a distraction. They suggested I try it, so I chose old Johnny Carson shows. Although I tried not to laugh, (it didn't make sense to me, even with the nitrous flowing, that I could be laughing half way through a root canal!) but... I couldn't help it while watching Corny Carson. I felt like I was in good hands, with experts on both sides, so I just tried to relax and let them do what they do best. Dr. Samyn is really in touch, funny, expert, and I'm sure he has a way of personalizing himself to each patient. Being nervous about how much discomfort was coming, I likely talked too much, so I appreciated his very subtle humor. He explains what he is doing/did before and afterwards. I really feel as though he and his staff cared about my health and the final outcome for me. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Samyn and his staff. My dentist (Wendy Cristifulli) recommended him for my root canal. Well, I put off my root canal and found myself in an emergency situation. I was in the worst pain of my life. I felt 200% better after my first visit and completely back to normal after my second. Let me start off by saying that I should have written this review after my first root canal with Dr. Samyn. That was not my first root canal, unfortunately, but it was by far my best experience at any dental office. Dr. Samyn's office employees are very helpful and accommodating. This visit today was a bit of a rush to get in. I started having symptoms of something brewing in a tooth, which normally doesn't happen. I was able to get in quickly for a consult and then proceed with the root canal. I had my suspicions with this tooth but Dr. Samyn was very knowledgeable and explained it to me in laymen terms what was going on. I had another issue which had to do with my 2.5 year old daughter. No one could watch her for some of my appt time so...for about 45 mins of the appt, one of the front office girls and her daughter entertained my daughter in the lobby until i was done. It was soo relieving to know that there are people out there that are willing to work with someone's schedule esp. in a situation like mine, where i needed to get my tooth taken care of. My root canal, again, was painless and Dr.. Samyn and his assistant (30 yrs experience, hehe) were soo easygoing and funny. You can watch a movie while your teeth are being worked on to drown out all the sounds or just bring your headphones and listen to the latest "this american life".
