The best eye doctor ever! He's thorough, he's honest, he's caring, and I highly recommend him.

The optometrist (Dr. Jang) seemed like a nice person at the beginning, but after a few interactions with her, I quickly realized she was a rude and condescending person. She was dismissive when I tried to explain what was bothering me about my eye and how it was hazy and not crisp clear. It was causing me blurred vision and inability to focus well in general, but she insisted that it was not a problem and it would probably improve (but she couldn't guarantee it and there was nothing she could do about the issue). But, it has not been improving at all but rather getting worse. She also didn't want to explain anything twice. When I asked her a question, she replied me with a curt "We went over this before." She was very bossy, dismissive, and patronizing when talking to patients. I have had a lot more pleasant experience with other optometrists who were much more knowledgeable, helpful, and yet kind and caring, also much more courteous when talking to patients. Thank you Yelp for helping me once again. I just moved to Hermosa about 8 months, and needed to find an eye doctor as I was on my last pair of contacts (why do I always wait?). Anyways, Dr. Kapust was awesome; he was very knowledgeable and wanted to get a complete picture of my eyes before providing me my new contacts. He was very forthcoming with both his expertise as well as his admonishments (i.e., giving me the specific reasons why you should not keep your contacts in longer than they tell you to). I went to Dr. Kapust over a year ago, and thought my overall experience was okay but not great (was a little put off by his manner). So, I just went to a different optometrist in the South Bay, and found out that I wasn't crazy but that in fact my glasses prescription was so far off that it was insane that I had been using them for so long! I had just assumed that my glasses were a little off because my vision is so bad, but my new eye doctor showed me what my prescription should be and then showed me the difference in what I had been using. He and I were equally aghast at how off the prescription was. After going on Yelp and seeing that other reviewers had similar experiences with getting wrong prescriptions from this doctor, I had to write and chime in and say that this is simply too many people for it to be just a clerical error at this point. Please do your research and seek out another optometrist; your eyes deserve better! read more

I had a bad experience w this OD. I went for a simple eye test and a new prescription but he insisted on a number of eye tests I really did not want. He falsely diagnosed with blind spots in my vision which led ultimately led to an neurologic ophthalmologist who ordered expensive tests that ended up costing me thousands of dollars. The final finding was my vision is fine, nothing wrong except the test dr kapust gave me. he is an alarmist and does not know what he is talking about. read more

I can't say enough about how GREAT Dr. Kapust, Cheryl, and the other staff were to me today. I have had some VERY disappointing eye doctor experiences, and this team restored my faith in health care. The office was clean and tidy. He has state of the art equipment. The doctor was extremely thorough and thoughtful and seemed to be taking extra time to make sure I understood what he was doing. They explained everything about my options and were very patient with me, as I had a problem with my VSP insurance. I can't recommend this doctor and his office strongly enough! Because of various issues with my eyes over the years, I've always gone to ophthalmologists. However, I haven't had any success in finding one I'm happy with since moving to the South Bay. I put off going to any eye doctor for a couple years because of it. Finally my friend recommended Dr. Kapust to me last year, so I went. It was a great experience! I just went back this week for my annual check up and to order more contacts. He's very thorough and knowledgeable. He does offer a variety of services for inspecting your eye's health, and highly recommends one of the more expensive treatments (some sort of photo of the inside of your eye so you don't have to have your eyes dilated), but he's not forceful about it; just very informative. I still haven't had it done, but eventually I will. I have to wear reading glasses, in addition to my contacts (something I've needed since college), but the over the counter ones aren't working for me anymore. This time he showed me an alternative lense that will help me. It's amazing! He really does know his stuff and wants what's best for his patients. I highly recommend Dr. Kapust for all your eye's needs. read more

The receptionist forced me to wait although no one else was in the entire business; then Robert Kapust ignored my complaining that his prescription was blurry, even outright telling me to not talk because he was fixated on his laptop, so he wrote out a prescription for blurry vision in his never addressing what I requested, the purpose of his job: clear vision; finally his receptionist forced me to wait again even though there was no other person she was helping, even outright lying to me that the receipt was already given to me and whining about every step of her having to figure out how to print a receipt- which she must have done a hundred times but for some reason found it necessary to act as though she did not know what she was doing so that she could passive aggressively give me bad service for not buying enough of their products which I felt intense pressure to buy throughout by both of them... something in their attitudes told me that if I didn't buy their products they were going to treat me with hard, selfish attitude of theirs... perhaps the other post is right: narcissist... doctor visits shouldn't feel like a gameshow of "See how much stepping all over your customer toes I can get away with?"... is it possible they are so rich and stuck up that a lowly customer trying to get normal health service is an offense to them?... I don't like feeling messed with, much less unhelped. read more

My sons eyes were red after a little too much sun. Erring on the side of caution I brought him in to see the Dr. He was open passed 5 and close to my house. He pulled me in for an emergency visit I was thankful he saw us right at closing time to see my son. For a full exam he had to put a yellow dye in my sons eye. Well he's 7 so like most kids his age(I imagine) he was scared and didn't want yellow dye in his eye. The Dr.'s tone of voice changed quickly and quote, "you need to let me know if he's going to do the drops or not, I can't just sit here for 20 minutes." He went back to his office and I had a talk with my son asking him if he could please let the Dr. Put the yellow dye in. We came to an agreement and I went back to the Dr office and told him we were ready. Well again my son got scared and wouldn't let the Dr. put the dye in. Then the tone of voice changed again, this time a lot louder, and to quote him " COME ON, REALLY? THATS IT IM DONE, I CAN DO AN EXAM BUT IT WONT BE A FULL EXAM WITHOUT THE DYE." At this point I'm kinda mad, he just raised his voice in the room with my son. I get it, most of his patients are probably adults and have no issue with putting the dye in their eyes, but in an instant I watched this Dr. lose his cool and throw all professionalism out the window. So he does a quick exam, writes me a prescription and let's me know I can call him tomorrow if there are any changes. Yeah right, there are plenty of other DR's in the area who I'm sure have better temperament with kids. I wouldn't say he's a bad Dr. Or maybe you shouldn't go there. My recommendation is that if you have kids under 10, steer clear. I saw a pair of kids Nike sunglasses I wanted to buy for my son also from this location, but after the appt was over I was in a hurry to get out. read more

Ugh. BAD EXPERIENCE. Had my appointment in the afternoon. I think I was the only person there besides his front office staff. He seemed to be mad at the receptionist (slamming around folders, making snide remarks to her) and it made me very uncomfortable, being the only other person there...then the eye exam...he was snappy with me and almost flipped his lid when he found out I usually see Dr Clark up in Manhattan Beach (I would've this time too but she was booked up, so I thought I'd give him a chance)....anyways, long story short, he told me I had an astigmatism and when I asked questions about it (like is this something you develop as you get older? I have never been told I have one before...) he seemed mad and told me he couldn't answer those questions...I ended up ordering glasses from him (not contacts, still had some of those from my old prescription)...i could never wear the glasses because they made me dizzy. I thought it was because I wasn't used to glasses (only contacts)...turns out the next year when I went to a different eye doctor and that doc tested my glasses...they were THE WRONG PRESCRIPTION! Ugh. Bad experience all around. Maybe he was having a bad day...but the hostility was kinda weird. I'd steer clear of this one....besides, if his schedule is wide open most of the time...there is probably a REASON.... read more
