When asked to explain it she was unable to do so in a way I could understand. I would NOT RECOMMEND SEEING HER. ONTHE BRIGHT SIDE. PAUL the optician was the VERY BEST. He helped me with fitting my glasses to make them more comfortable. He was kind, smart and a joy to work with. CYNTHIA who was the manager of the Optical side she Was FANASTIC too. She helped me by answering all the questions I had about the office. She was so very KIND and UNDERSTANDING. I would definitely refer people to buy glasses there and get them fit by the fabulous duo Paul and Cynthia. They made my awful visit ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. read more

DANGEROUS MEDICAL NEGLIGENCE. THIS IS A UNCARING CORPORATE FACTORY POSING AS A SMALL LOCAL BUSINESS. Warning to the South Bay: This is NOT the local, caring optometry office it pretends to be. They are part of VSP Ventures, a massive corporate giant (Google it & see attached pic), and it shows. They treat patients like numbers on a spreadsheet, not humans and repeatedly got my eye exams wrong. The Negligence: For six years, they failed to diagnose a standard condition I've had since 2017. In July 2025, Dr. Lee removed my astigmatism correction entirely. When I explicitly told her I couldn't see and questioned the prescription, I was dismissed. A manager promised to call me back--no one ever did. The Result: I spent months driving with dangerous, blurry vision and wasted over $3,000 on 9 pairs of useless glasses because I thought better glasses would help me, but the problem was their incompetence. I finally went to a new independent doctor (Leaf Optometry), who immediately diagnosed the issue and confirmed Manhattan Beach Vision Group has been getting it wrong for years after looking over all my previous prescriptions. I needed to get an eye exam and new glasses, so I decided to give Manhattan Beach Vision Group a try as it was highly recommended by one of my friends. Upon contacting them, I was able to quickly and easily make an appointment to be seen. Within a few minutes of speaking with the receptionist, I received an email with a link to complete the new patient forms. It was recommended to complete online to expedite my upcoming visit. Just like over the phone during my initial call, the staff was incredibly friendly, professional and efficient. Shortly after checking in, I was whisked away to begin the eye exam where I was helped by the optometrist's assistant Max, who was great! Next, I was seen by Dr. Pham, who completed the exam. She was super friendly and thorough. She was not rushed and took the time to answer my questions. Last, but certainly not least, I was then escorted to pick out and get fitted for glasses by Wendy. Not only was Wendy friendly and professional, but she was SO helpful in helping me understand my insurance benefits. Again, I was not rushed. In fact, she encouraged me to take my time, so that I could find the right pair of glasses. Plus, she went over all of the lens options, which was very helpful! I had a disappointing experience. At check-in, I confirmed that my visit would be covered by my insurance and was told that it was. Once I was in the room with Dr. Luan Lee, I agreed to an $39 out-of-pocket charge to check my retina. After the glasses prescription exam, Dr. Luan Lee suggested a contact lens fitting "to make the most of the visit," without disclosing that it would cost $150. I only learned of this charge at checkout. When I questioned it, the interaction became uncomfortable. They eventually agreed to remove the charge in exchange for deleting the contact lens fitting data. Additionally, my name was spelled incorrectly on the printed glasses prescription I took home, even after I asked for it to be corrected. The checkout experience felt rushed and uncomfortable, and I left without having my existing glasses tightened, despite needing an adjustment due to normal wear, which was disappointing. On a positive note, the technician who performed my initial tests before I saw the doctor was very professional and courteous. I am sharing this review so others considering this office know to be vigilant, ask detailed questions, and get clear confirmation of costs upfront. I will not be returning. read more

We've gone here twice so far as our regular Optometrist/ Eye Doctors who provides exams and eye check ups annually. I take a child (6-7 yrs old at the time) and they're very family friendly knowing how to work with children and kids. The staff are really nice. Parking is tough to identify the entry to their private lot, so you might miss it and pass it by, but it's easy to circle around and come back. There's also parallel street parking too. read more

It's so disheartening when businesses start using AI assistants, especially offices in the medical space - it removes the human touch and makes the experience feel very cold and impersonal. I called to schedule an appointment and wanted to speak with someone about my symptoms to know if I should schedule with an optometrist or find an ophthalmologist, but was taken through scheduling with an AI-generated assistant. This office used to be so great, but they recently changed management and are no longer honoring their lens warranty policies, even for customers that were told their lenses came with a warranty before this change took place. I've also encountered long waits and understaffing since this change. I understand that it isn't in the staffs' hands, and appreciate the tough situation they are in with unhappy customers, but I will be switching practices due to this new lack of accountability and customer service. read more

I had an exceptional experience here! From ease in booking an appointment, to the staff, to the glasses choices (SO many it was so hard to choose)!!! I got both glasses and contacts (first time user) and appreciated how knowledgeable the staff were in deciding which of my vision plans to use for which service. Dr. Lee was quick during the exam and my prescription has been great so far. I later needed a document for my work regarding my vision and she got it to me right away which I feel is rare in medicine. I wish I remembered her name but the woman who taught me how to insert my contacts was encouraging, funny and incredibly patient. Paul helped me with the glasses part and was fantastic and not pushy towards any upgrades, only what I needed. It was seriously so hard to choose one frame with their selection-- tons of classic frames but also unique ones I've never seen elsewhere. I wish I could get 5 pairs!! I really felt everyone takes pride in their work at this office. I couldn't recommend this place enough and will certainly be returning and spreading the word to friends! read more

I really hate giving this updated review. Ever since Dr. Funnell retired, and turned his practice over to new recent optical graduates, the eye doctor expertise, I find, is no longer there. I had an appointment with Dr. Tran. I truly felt there was a lack of expertise during our consult. Toward the end of the consult, I asked him about my cataracts. He said "What cataracts?" Yikes -- how can he not see them based on today's exam, or how could he miss the comments put in my file by Dr. Funnell regarding my cataracts? When Dr. Tran said "What cataracts?" I just shut my mouth, and thought, "Okay, I'm done. I've given this place enough of a chance (without Dr. Funnell) and it's time for me to go elsewhere". Why the 2 stars: Their support staff is excellent (a particular shout-out to Sherry and Paul), it has an excellent office location with their own parking lot, they have a wide range of eye-glass options, and their office decor is up-scale and comfortable. It took me a while, but I am now very happy with my new eye doctor. He's a bit far, but he's so well regarded that he's listed as one of the "Top Doctors" in L A Magazine. After recently moving, I needed to find a new optometrist and MBVG came up with really high marks on Yelp. I submitted the appointment request form on their website and got a call the next day to schedule something about a week out with Dr. Aslam. They have parking under their building, which poses a tight squeeze, but works well with enough options for all of the staff and visitors. Upstairs, there is a lot more space than one would think, and a lot of staff in the front and back. They have the latest technologies for testing, and their in-room equipment is controlled with a tablet, so they don't even have to adjust dials when asking "1 or 2, 3 or 4, " etc. The staff member that did the pre-testing was very friendly and helped answer my questions/address my concerns. Took thorough notes, then handed me off to the waiting room where I sat for about 10 minutes before I was seen by Dr. Jenny Aslam. She was very friendly, professional, and answered all of my questions as well. When all was said and done, I had a renewal for my prescription and was very happy with the experience that I had. I generally have good experiences with optometrist visits. I have had many different optometrists, having moved a lot. However, this time the experience was "beyond" good, and I am moved to leave a review! To start with, a front desk person helped me get an appointment last minute before my insurance expired. For this I am grateful. Then the appointment itself: no waiting--they took me exactly on time, so that I had not even finished filling out the forms! (How often does that happen?) The tech who did the first part of my eye exam was friendly and personable, and the exam itself was so much fun that I wanted to keep going. Then I got Dr Mike for the second part, and he sweet, experienced and knowledgable. I enjoyed the second part of the exam too! The front desk was again helpful when I needed an extra lens for one eye. My only regret is not having found this place sooner. read more

I've only been here two for two separate annual eye exams. Both times I've been here have been awesome and very smooth. The receptionists and the doctors are all friendly and helpful. They have a parking lot underneath which is super convenient. You can take the elevator up to the second floor or take the stairs around the corner of the parking lot. I believe they are appointment only so make sure you call to schedule an appointment. They even called me the day before to confirm the appointment which is nice. Dr. Choi answered a lot of questions I had about the health of my eyes and gave detailed answers to all the questions I had. The receptionist at the end was really helpful in explaining to me the prices of different options factoring in my insurance and any rebates/discounts they had at the time. As long as I'm in this area, I will continue going here. read more

My entire family just went to MB Vision Group for eye exams (on 5/18/2020). It's not something I wanted to do, especially given the current uncertainties of Covid-19. Just going out for groceries can be stressful and scary. But with three kids and my wife and I staring at screens all day long due to home-learning and working from home, it became apparent we needed to get our eyes checked sooner more than later. Our experience at MB Vision Group couldn't have been better. They made a "potentially scary" trip to an indoor medical facility feel SAFE and RELAXED. It was clear from the start that they had the safety and well-being of their patients as priority one. Each doctor is only seeing one patient an hour. So it's not crowded at all. Everyone working at the office is wearing masks. All optometrists are wearing masks and face shields. They ask that all patients wear masks (which I fully support). The second you walk into the office, you are greeted with a friendly hello and your temperature is immediately taken. Plexiglass dividers separate you from office personnel and there are marks on the floor to remind everyone of proper social distancing. There is a table with sanitizer and varying sizes of plastic gloves for patients to use if they so choose. There's lots of hand sanitizer placed throughout the office. There is a very open and airy waiting room. There was only one person sitting there when my family of 5 arrived. They have 2 separate outside balconies where you can wait as well. We went with the balcony option. They brought out sanitized chairs for us to make sure we were comfortable. All medical equipment was sanitized prior to our turn. And it was sanitized again right in front of us to see right before they were used on us for exam purposes. I only saw 4 other patients in the office during our visit. Every patient was spaced out in different parts of the office so it never felt uncomfortable or crowded. Everyone working in the office was aware and sensitive to social distancing. We have been going to MB Vision group for the last 5 years. They are our neighborhood optometrist and we love going to them. They have always provided a top notch eye experience and have consistently gone above and beyond to make sure we were happy and satisfied. Covid-19 has complicated even the most simple of tasks. However, rest assured, if you are in need of eye help, glasses, or a routine eye exam, MB Vision Group is doing it right. You can feel safe going to them. I was interested in some Lindbergh frames and found Manhattan Beach Vision Group to be one of the companies dealers closest to me. When I walked in I informed the woman at the reception desk what I was looking for. Her response (with an attitude) was "what exactly do you need and are you a patient here?". No I'm not a patient and I just told her what I was looking for! At that point I should have walked out the door but since I made the drive I decided to at least see what they had. Fortunately I was helped by Paul who showed me the Lindberg frames he had in stock and if I had a model number he could order the particular frame for me. I was looking for a new optometrist who had experience with past brain tumor patients. Yes, they said great Dr. The Dr. I was given was not at all capable, he was very uncomfortable when I told him about my brain tumor, I also asked him about dry eye which he failed to address. He was new I think, because all he was capable of was a basic eye exam. The front desk was not helpful. After I tried to get some glasses, not a great selection and not helpful. Since then, I had to see another optometrist for dry eye and answers regarding some vision issues. I also had someone pick out stylish great eyeglasses. Dr. Okada gives me a thorough exam and Wendy is very helpful in helping me select the perfect frame for my new glasses. They always get me an appointment for any eye issues that I might occasionally have and even stop in for occasional eyeglass adjustments. I was referred to this place through a friend, and was impressed with all the reviews. I wanted to get a second opinion on an eye issue that my regular eye doctor diagnosed. However not only did my appointment get cancelled more than once, the attitude from whoever was booking me was terrible! The MB snobbery was oozing through, which I never got before at my other doctors offices here. Then of course I get multiple confirmations for my "appointments" that didn't exist, for times that were not right. Very confusing. It seems like they are quite busy as I kept being put on hold and multiple people kept picking up. I talked to my friend, and it seems like she also had some major issues with their billing department, and varying costs with the same services, which we thought was shady. I used to go to an optometrist in Santa Monica; each visit would cost an astronomical amount ( more than 1k), they would recommend things I did not need and would not accept my insurance. This office accepts all Insurance, has parking, recommends against any unnecessary items ( IE: I asked for anti- fog coating and they said it wears off within a month and was not worth it). Ample parking space, very courteous front and back office staff, and very knowledgeable Optometrists. Everything is very clean and with updated machinery. I didn't realize that there were so many types of machines to test different aspects of our vision until I came here! My eyes have been opened, haha. I especially want to shout out Dr. Michael Tran, who has been my Optometrist for the last 3 years. I was amazed by Dr. Tran's sharp medical knowledge and ease in explaining topics, such as dry eyes, the health of our retinas. In addition to being well-informed, he also never made me feel uncomfortable or ashamed about my own understanding of my eyes. I called to make an appointment as a first time patient. The front lady who answered was rude when I asked to make an appointment. She said " I can't make an appointment right now. I can call you back" I asked why? Maybe the system was down? She said "I am in the middle of something and can't do it now in a rude way as if I am bothering her. She never even called me back. I have never been seen so quickly by an optometrist in my life. Manhattan Beach Vision group is seriously a well oiled machine. My appointment was at 3pm and I was seen precisely at 3pm. Fyi, the location inside is huge for an optometry office. They took me to a back room to run all these tests and look at my eyes before the doctor actually saw me. The doctor evaluated my eyes and by the end of the exam explained all the issues I have been having with my eyes. Side note: they take this image of your eyes to look at the health and charge a $39 fee just to look at it. I honestly thought that was weird. If the patient declines, do you not get to know how healthy your eyes are? Anyway, at the end of all my evaluations, I was taken to the are where you get to pick out frames. They have a good assortment of options and the pricing is...well typical for glasses. The staff are so sweet and attentive! Im glad I decided to make MBVG my optometry office! read more

I've been in the hospitality industry my entire career, and the last 6 years of my career in hotels, so I am not only a sucker for service, but the above and beyond service just is so impressive. This place is getting two stars solely because of some help they gave me a year or so ago. Went in to get glasses adjusted, they were very nice and did it free of charge. I told myself if the time comes, I'll go back for other eye-related business... Flash forward to this week, I now have vision care through VSP and I was surprised to find that I have an option for Lasik (if I'm a candidate). Well I dialed up MB Vision Group and spoke on the phone to a lady about setting up an appointment. She was nice enough, albeit a little aggressive, regarding how the process works. I would set an appointment with them and then call and set an appointment with 1 of 2 surgery locations myself - Gweneth Paltrow's eye surgeon in Beverlywood (near thrice the price, even with MBV's discount they're peddling) or (and this was said very underhandedly) another place in Torrance that's "eh, it's okay". After hanging up I quickly went to VSP's list of approved surgeons and low and behold the first "eye surgeon to the stars" was not listed, and the second place was (complete with rave reviews on yelp I might add). So I called VSP to see what the deal was. They told me that their approved providers should not be telling patients to go to an out-of-network option. Also that patients shouldn't be asked to schedule their own surgery appointments. Something was off. Again I called MBV back and spoke to the same lady who got pretty huffy after I began asking questions and subsequently leaning towards the second, lesser-known suggestion. Of course my wheels are turning at this point. I knew what was going on - place #2 wasn't giving either this lady (or MB Vision? or both?) a "kickback" so as a result they were deterring patients from that location. I told her what the VSP representative had said regarding patients not having to make their own surgical appointments. She became quite rude and began to give me a counter argument in a pretty demeaning tone - then quickly placed me on hold before I had a chance to respond. Needless to say when she came back on the phone I asked to cancel my appointment. Not trying to deal with that drama. Totally lame that I'm willing to give them some business and after the actions of one employee, I'm done being a customer before I even started. Oh well. Money I guess changes people's demeanor. I'm all for supporting local businesses and taking their suggestions but this was a poor way of going about it. Bummer, I liked this place during the first encounter. TL;DR - Beware of the dreaded "behind the scenes kickback" that some employees may be receiving for Lasik. Makes them pushy, rude and argumentative if you don't go with their golden goose. read more
